!!Due to the AnyoneCanDie nature of the show and quickly moving plots, only spoilers from the current/most recent season will be spoiled out to prevent entire pages of whited out text. These spoiler tags will be removed upon the debut of the following season, and the character bios will be updated then as well. 15->''"We got into a skirmish with another group. None of them made it. And we lost others, too. Cyndie had an 11-year-old brother, my grandson, and their mother, too, my daughter. After that, we decided to protect ourselves, no matter what. No matter who we crossed, we would kill on sight. We left our old home with just the clothes on our backs. And then we found this place. We would stay hidden. And we would stay alive."''
-->-- '''Natania''' recapping Oceanside's history to '''Tara Chambler''' ("[[Recap/TheWalkingDeadS07E06Swear Swear]]")

A small, but heavily armed community of women living on the Virginia coastline. They originally lived further inland, ending up as one of the Saviors’ slave states. When they tried to rebel, the ruthless Simon massacred every male survivor over the age of 10. The survivors, mostly women, fled to the coast and escaped the Saviors’ grasp, killing any outsiders who come close. When Tara stumbles upon the community, however, the Oceansiders are eventually convinced to become allies of the Coalition.
----
* AbortedArc: The end of Part 2 of Season 11 leaves us on a cliffhanger wherein [[spoiler:Lance is deciding whether or not to spare them, and much of Part 3 has Aaron leading a group to go bring supplies to them, with Aaron's insistence they hurry suggesting they're in for a rude awakening once they arrive. However, the last episodes have Luke and Jules suddenly reappear and reveal that Oceanside was simply taken hostage. They don't even appear again before the end of the series.]]
* AdaptationExpansion: Going in hand with the above trope, they're introduced as a community who lives in fear of the Saviors, and their comic counterpart never appeared on-page.
* AdaptationOriginConnection: The comic Oceanside had no connection with the Saviors prior to joining the multi-community alliance of which the Saviors were a part. Here, they encountered them during Negan's reign of terror.
* AdaptationalEarlyAppearance: They are introduced far earlier than their comic counterparts, who were first alluded to several years later in the timeline.
* AdaptationalJerkass: According to [[WideEyedIdealist Pete]] from the comic series, Oceanside is a peaceful community that welcomed other survivors with open arms. The show's version executes strangers on the spot and takes no chances with new arrivals, though it is somewhat justified due to their understandable fear of the Saviors.
* AdaptedOut: Pete, the community's only named character from the comics, is not on the show.
* AllYourBaseAreBelongToUs: Invoked and ultimately averted. At the end of Season 10, Alexandria evacuates it’s premises with the intention of tricking the Whisperer horde to attack Oceanside, where the survivors will then lead the horde into the ocean. Beta eventually figures out the ruse and finds his way to the Tower, leaving Oceanside as the only standing community that does not receive a visit from the Whisperers.
* AmazonBrigade: The entire community is made up of female survivors (with a few little boys living as civilians). By the time of Season 10, some men appear to have joined the community or their boys have grown up.
* AntiVillain: They execute strangers on the spot, but they only do so because they've grown paranoid that inviting strangers into their group can lead to the Saviors finding and finishing what they started.
* BigDamnHeroes: In "Wrath", they appear at the last second to save Hilltop residents from the Saviors by hitting them with explosives.
* BlackSite: They live in constant fear of the Saviors finding them, so their village is camouflaged and they kill outsiders on sight.
* BrokenBird: The execution of half their community has had a devastating and traumatic effect on their collective psyche, and they no longer take chances with strangers approaching them.
* CanonForeigner: None of the characters listed below appeared in the comics.
* TheCavalry: In Season 8, they finally give in to Aaron's pleas for them to join the fight against the Saviors and rescue many Hilltop residents from being overwhelmed in the finale.
* ColdSniper: A number of the warriors have scoped rifles for guns.
* DarkActionGirl: The whole community's defenders are all combat oriented female fighters. They later reform into genuine heroic members of the Coalition, removing the "Dark".
* DeathByAdaptation: The only named comic Oceansider, Pete, is presumably among the dead, because all of their male members are dead on the show.
* DemotedToExtra: After their initial arc in Season 9 about gaining retribution against the Saviors, their appearances and prominence have dwindled due to their distance from the other communities and a lack of main characters living there. They didn't return until "The Calm Before" following Rick's disappearance; made only a handful of appearances mostly as a setting in Season 10, and are absent from Season 11 altogether until "The Lucky Ones". Oceanside mostly contributes either minor characters for casualties (like Beatrice) or minor subplots (like Jules getting together with Luke). [[spoiler:Due to all but Luke and Jules being captured, they also sit out the final stretch of episodes, meaning they don't even get to contribute to the final fight of the series.]]
* FireForgedFriends: They enter their alliance with Alexandria during a fight with a small herd of walkers.
* {{Gendercide}}: When they tried to fight back against the Saviors, they responded by lining up every [[MenAreTheExpendableGender male]] member of the group [[WouldHurtAChild over the age of 10]] and executing them. It's eventually revealed that this was Simon's doing rather than Negan's.
* GenocideSurvivor: All the women and the very young male children were spared from execution at the Saviors' hands.
* GoodIsNotSoft: While they ultimately align themselves with the Coalition they also have no problems kidnapping and executing Saviors for their part in the massacre that forced them into hiding so many years ago.
* HufflepuffHouse: They mostly exist as the "fourth community" of the Coalition, since none of the main characters actually live there.
* InferredSurvival: [[spoiler:Given Pamela's removal from power in the series finale, it can be inferred they were released from their captivity and survived.]]
* InNameOnly: Aside from their fishing, they have virtually nothing in common with their comic counterpart.
* {{Irony}}: They originally went into hiding after the {{Gendercide}} that wiped out most of their male members. Against Natania's wishes, the community eventually becomes FireForgedFriends with the Coalition and helped put an end to the reign of the Saviors. At the end of "Acts of God", they find themselves [[spoiler:under threat of another genocide, this time at the hands of the Commonwealth]], meaning that joining forces with the Coalition potentially only ''delayed'' their extinction before coming to fruition a decade later. Or, if one chooses to look at it in a more negative light, made the extinction of Oceanside ''possible'' since, if they had never partnered with the Coalition, they could have stayed hiding in the shadows indefinitely and thus never ended up on the [[spoiler:Commonwealth]]'s shit-list to begin with. [[spoiler:Subverted as of "Faith": Luke and Jules reveal that Lance decided to spare them, but they're still in danger due to being held hostage, and only the two of them managed to escape.]]
* LadyLand: Almost all of their male members were wiped out by the Saviors. By the time of the Whisperer War, they have brought in new male members and presumably some of their boys who survived the genocide have grown up, but their reputation as being mostly women still lingers as Gage and Rodney salivate over the idea of going to Oceanside.
* MirroringFactions:
** They argue that they're similar to Tara's people since they have both killed others to defend their community and made enemies with the Saviors, losing their battle as well.
** They're also this to the Scavengers, as both groups wanted to be left alone and end up faced with the threat of a genocide thanks to their alliance with the Coalition. The main difference is Oceanside became legitimate allies with the Coalition, and their potential genocide happened much later down the line.
* PuppetState: Defied. After all of the men were killed, the survivors packed up and fled to the coast to escape the Saviors.
* ProperlyParanoid: They carefully hide their existence and murder anyone who finds them because they don't want to be found by the Saviors, who previously massacred half their group in a single go, and have completely exterminated at least one other community in the past.
* ShadowArchetype: The community resembles what Alexandria risks ending up becoming once Negan pays them a few more visits. Their group was once a peaceful community until the Saviors had all their males executed in order to dominate them, but their survivors fled out of sight from the Saviors and grew into a darker reflection of Alexandria.
* ShockingDefeatLegacy: After being subjugated by the Saviors, some of the Oceansiders attempted to fight back, though none survived. In [[DisproportionateRetribution retaliation]], the Saviors executed every male over the age of ten. This horrific, decisive defeat drove the survivors into hiding and the combination of grief, survivor's guilt, PTSD, and crippling terror at the idea of the Saviors rediscovering them continues to have an overwhelmingly negative effect on their psychology as a group.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: They hauled ass pretty damn far to get away from the Saviors.
* SurvivorGuilt: They suffer from this pretty badly, as their male friends and family were killed solely for their sex, while they were spared for the same reason.
* TeamSwitzerland: Oceanside is this, initially. After some convincing, they decide to help the Militia fight off the Saviors in the Season 8 finale.
* TookALevelInKindness: After the Savior War they warm up to the other communities and become genuine allies to them, and they relax some of their stricter policies such as their refusal to admit any newcomers.
* TrainingThePeacefulVillagers: Downplayed, since Oceanside was far from incompetent beforehand; but during the Season 10 premiere, Aaron and Michonne are shown giving them formalized, militaristic combat training to deal with large threats.
* UncertainDoom: [[spoiler:"Acts of God" ends with Lance flipping a coin to decide whether he should execute them. The next episode picks up a few hours later with Lance chasing after Maggie and Daryl's group with nary a mention of Oceanside. In "A New Deal", after Lance has been captured, Aaron leads a group to Oceanside to fill them in on the next stage of the Coalition's plan, implying Lance didn't execute them after all. We finally get an update in "Faith" where Luke and Jules report that Lance spared them but everyone else was taken hostage while they managed to escape.]]
* UnderestimatingBadassery: The Saviors made a grave mistake in not killing all the women as well.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse:
** They are not seen or mentioned after the second TimeSkip in Season 9 until "The Calm Before"; apparently, their lack of screentime is caused by the estrangement between the communities and that nobody among the main cast actually lives in Oceanside. On the other hand, Rachel is the only named resident who even attends the Fair and the vengeful members from earlier in the season (like Cyndie and Beatrice) don't make an appearance. Season 10 reveals they're once more on good terms with the other communities.
** The community has bizarrely not been mentioned since "Home Sweet Home", which is odd considering Alexandria is falling apart at the seams and suffering from a severe lack of food and supplies. Even though Oceanside is likely too small to take in the other four (Alexandria, Hilltop, Kingdom, Meridian) communities' worth of people, they have simply not been mentioned even when they could be an option to at least provide some aid to the others.
** They finally [[TheBusCameBack return]] in "The Lucky Ones", where the community is paid a visit by Pamela and Lance as they tour the various factions of the Coalition.
* WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds: They were once a peaceful community until the Saviors visited them. Ever since, they've grown into a paranoid society who execute strangers on the spot out of fear that it can lead to the Saviors returning one day.

The elderly leader of Oceanside. She refuses to allow any strangers into Oceanside, fearful of the Saviors finding them again after they killed her daughter and grandson. Natania offers Tara a permanent place at Oceanside to prevent her from leaking their location, but when Tara refuses, Natania puts a hit out on her after she leaves. Natania is enraged to later find Tara has led her group back to Oceanside, but ultimately, the other Oceansiders agree to join Rick's rebellion and surrender their weapons. When Aaron and Enid return during the ensuing Savior War to ask for aid, Natania attacks them in the dead of night, and Enid accidentally kills her in self-defense.
----
* BackForTheDead: She doesn't even reappear onscreen before being shot dead by Enid.
* CharacterDeath: She is killed by Enid in self-defense in "How It's Gotta Be".
* CoolOldLady: When not dealing with strangers, she appears to be relatively reasonable and does love her remaining family members.
* EvilOldFolks: Downplayed. While she herself is not evil and has her reasons for killing any strangers on sight, she does poise a serious threat to Tara's life and attempts to kill her after claiming to be open to an alliance with Alexandria.
* TheLeader: Of Oceanside until "Something They Need" where she is usurped by Cyndie and Beatrice. However, the fallout of her death in Season 8 suggests she still acted as leader since attention is paid to Cyndie taking over as leader.
* OutlivingOnesOffspring: Her daughter and grandson were killed by the Saviors.
* PromotionToParent: To her grandchildren.

Natania's oldest granddaughter who has not fully adjusted to Oceanside's brutal ways. She takes mercy on Tara and helps her escape, only to be disappointed when Tara leads her group back for a raid. Cyndie ultimately agrees to join the rebellion, however, against her grandmother's wishes. She takes command of Oceanside during the Savior War after Enid kills her grandmother in self-defense.

After being convinced by Aaron to assist in the Savior War, Cyndie grows resentful of Rick and Michonne for sparing and imprisoning Negan. Inspired by Gregory’s execution, she leads her people in executing Saviors who participated in Simon’s massacre.
----
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Cyndie ''is'' one of the more compassionate Oceanside residents, but if you're one of the Saviors who participated in Simon's {{Gendercide}}, she can be just as ruthless as the rest of them. Arat found out the hard way.
* DemotedToExtra: Her appearances have become more sporadic in recent seasons, likely due to her actress taking roles on other projects. As a result, Cyndie's role as Oceanside's primary representative is usually filled by Rachel.
* FriendlySniper: She's decent with a rifle and is the nicest member of Oceanside.
* TheIdealist: She is convinced that nobody in the world is actually evil. Tara, who had the displeasure of knowing the Governor, the Terminus residents, and the Wolves, argues that some people are evil.
* TheLeader: Takes command of Oceanside after her grandmother's death.
* NiceGirl: She's a kind, helpful girl who goes out of her way to help Tara out of several jams.
* PutOnABus: As noted below, she doesn't appear after the fourth episode of Season 9. Rachel takes her place as the representative of Oceanside in "The Calm Before".
** TheBusCameBack: She returns in Season 10.
** LongBusTrip: She disappears again after "The World Before" and doesn't return for the rest of the series. Dialogue reveals she's still alive, though.
* RealLifeWritesThePlot: She is not seen at all in Season 9 after the six-year TimeSkip due to her actress landing a starring role on another show.
* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight: Frequently breaks Oceanside's rules in order to help Tara, which culminates with her tackling Beatrice and helping Tara escape.
* TokenGoodTeammate: Downplayed, as while her community isn't evil, she is the ''only'' member of Oceanside who doesn't try to kill Tara.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: She is completely unmentioned when Oceanside makes its first reappearance in Season 11, with Rachel treated as the sole leader of the community.
** She's finally mentioned by Aaron in "A New Deal", implying she's merely been "off-screen" this entire time.
* WhatTheHellHero: She's very hurt when Tara returns to Oceanside with not only a vengeance but her entire group.

Natania's youngest granddaughter. She is the most hostile to Tara upon meeting her, but eventually develops respect for her and the other Alexandrians. After the Savior War she takes part in the hunting down of Saviors involved in Simon’s massacre, and helps tamper with the communications to provide cover for Maggie to sneak to Alexandria to kill Negan. Several years later, she has begun helping Cyndie lead their community, and serves as the main diplomatic representative of Oceanside at the Kingdom’s fair.
----
* ChildSoldier: When we first meet her, she's about Carl's age when the apocalypse started and is ready and willing to kill walkers and strangers.
* EnfantTerrible: As a child, she is not that pleasant to be around, and also happy to murder Tara without a second thought.
* ShesAllGrownUp: She's grown to be a rather lovely young woman after the six-year [[TimeSkip time jump]] in Season 9.
* SirSwearsALot: Has a rather foul mouth, much to her grandmother's ire.
* SpitefulSpit: Hawks a loogie at Tara's feet to show her disdain. Tara, being [[PluckyComicRelief Tara]], responds by FlippingTheBird.
* TookALevelInKindness: She's certainly mellowed out a lot as a teenager.

A member of Oceanside and one of its primary warriors. She regretfully agrees to help kill Tara, but later sides with Rick and supports joining the war against the Saviors. After the war ends with Negan being spared, however, she grows to resent Rick and Michonne. A year and a half later, inspired by Gregory’s execution, Beatrice and the other members of Oceanside begin hunting down Saviors for their part in Simon’s massacre and are given Maggie and Daryl’s blessing. Years later, she is killed during the final battle of the Whisperer War.
----
* AnArmAndALeg: Her leg gets ripped off by a few of the hungry walkers as she gets DevouredByTheHorde.
* ApologeticAttacker: As she prepares to shoot Tara, she is on the verge of crying and is apologizing, since Beatrice believes killing her will keep Oceanside safe and that Tara's group has likely already been wiped out by the Saviors.
* BackForTheDead: After having not been seen since "What Comes After" in Season 9, she returns in Season 10's "A Certain Doom" and is killed off in that very same episode.
* CharacterDeath: She is stabbed in the leg and dragged down by a Whisperer, allowing the horde to devour her.
* CrusadingWidow: "Warning Signs" reveals that her husband was among the people executed in Simon's massacre of the community's men. With the help of the other Oceanside women, Beatrice captures and executes Justin, the Savior responsible for killing him.
* DeathSeeker: Hinted to have some tendencies towards this during her introductory episode when Tara disarms her and knocks her down and Beatrice only looks resigned and tells her to shot her.
* DevouredByTheHorde: After getting wounded and held down by a dying Whisperer, she suffers this fate. She is noticeably torn to shreds much more violently than others thanks to the sheer number of walkers present and them likely being deliberately starved by their masters.
* FaceDeathWithDignity: Downplayed as she’s clearly panicked and obviously in pain, but in her last moments before the horde devours her, she implores Carol to go on without her and continue the mission.
* TheLancer: She becomes Cyndie's right hand after the latter takes over as leader.
* LaserGuidedKarma: Downplayed. She and Rachel are the only survivors to display open hostility to Lydia for reasons the other communities have already gotten over (being Alpha’s daughter). Beatrice subsequently ends up being the only casualty of the teams sent into the horde.
* MauveShirt: She has some characterization, but she’s a pretty minor character even after three seasons and is ultimately the only somewhat notable heroic casualty of the Season 10 finale.
* TheStraightAndArrowPath: In Season 9 she has taken to using a crossbow as her primary weapon. This is what leads Daryl to realize she is responsible for killing Justin when he matches one of her bolts to the wound on his body.

* NiceGirl: She’s friendly and charming even before she starts shooting her shot with Luke.
* OfficialCouple: With Luke, as of "A Certain Doom". He moves to Oceanside after the end of the Whisperer War to be with her.
* RememberTheNewGuy: Makes her debut in the Season 10 premiere but Luke is already familiar with her and she's implied to be a longtime resident of the community. It's unknown if she's intended to have been there since Oceanside's inception or simply joined during one of the [[TimeSkip time jumps]] in Season 9.
* SacrificialLamb: [[spoiler:She's the first of the group to die in the series finale, before the credits have even finished rolling. Luke soon follows.]]
* SatelliteLoveInterest: Mainly exists to be a LoveInterest for Luke, and has very few interactions with other characters.
* ShipTease: Seen flirting with Luke. They more or less become an item by "A Certain Doom".
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: She gets a crush on Luke, a sweetheart if ever there was one.
