[[folder: Kasile's Father]]
The king of Ataidar at the time of ''A Mage's Power''. He is Kasile's father by marriage and thus doesn't have the royal bloodline.
* DeadAllAlong: [[spoiler: Kasile's father died pre-series. An enforcer was possessing his body and moving it as if it were alive. After Tasio evicts it and takes it away, the king's body quickly decays.]]
* DemonicPossession: [[spoiler: Everytime he's on screen, he's possessed by an enforcer.]]
* NoNameGiven: He's only known as Kasile's father and the husband of the late queen.
* RoyalBlood: Despite being king, he doesn't have it because he married into the Ataidar family.

[[folder: Kasile Landros Ataidar VII]]
The princess of Ataidar at the start of ''A Mage's Power''. She succeeds her father after he is no longer able to rule. At the start of ''Looming Shadow'' she is the crowned queen.

* AnimalMotifs: She invokes the image of tigers whenever possible because one of them is her divine ancestor's {{familiar}} in addition to the fact that they are powerful and majestic creatures. They decorate her dresses, her castle, and they inspired her development of the Mana Claw technique.
* BeautyIsNeverTarnished: it becomes a running gag through the series that she averts this trope.
** No matter how much she protests that "divine beauty is never tarnished" she is a sweaty and disheveled mess after a training session. [[spoiler: After she's injured in the climatic battle, it takes a corps of ladies-in-waiting to make her presentable again.]]
** Her make up runs in ''Literature/LoomingShadow''.
** In ''Literature/ManaMutationMenace'', her dress is charred, her jewelry melted and her skin smudged with soot.
** There's a delightful image of her nursing a hangover in ''Literature/TranscendingLimitations''. In the words of Eric, "Wow, Kas. You look like shit".
* BreakTheCutie: In quick succession, she is kidnapped, framed for treason, finds out her ex-boyfriend is part of a conspiracy to overthrow her government, and has to foil said overthrow. Then her dad decays and her best friend disappears.
* TheChainsOfCommand: She compares ruling to "juggling bowling balls" and regularly vents her frustrations about this economic policy or that difficult minister to Eric.
* CoolCrown: Kasile wears a circlet as a princess and she's upgraded to the ancestral hoop crown once she becomes queen in ''Looming Shadow''. Both are bedecked in jewels and Ataidar fire symbols. Eric observes that the latter is also a ''[[TheChainsOfCommand heavy]]'' crown.
* DamselOutOfDistress: This is a ZigzaggedTrope because she's a high profile target, being a politically active royal and all, and may or may nor be able to get get out of trouble on her own. For example, during ''A Mage's Power''. [[spoiler: Kasile easily handles the mooks that have come to abduct her, but their leader subdues her just as easily. Eric comes to rescue her but by the time he arrives, she's loose and on the verge of escape. In the end, she follows the outlaw force that composes her official rescue party.]]
* DontCallMeSir: She's a restricted case. She doesn't like it when her confidant uses titles (Eric usually does it to tease her) and is trying ''really'' hard to get her boyfriend to stop it. By the time of ''Literature/ManaMutationMenace'', she's convinced him to drop from "Your Majesty" to "Lady Kasile".
* FatalFlaw: Her paranoia. [[spoiler: Selen's coup relied heavily on Kasile's paranoia. If she hadn't jumped at his bait with the Ceihan ambassador, then it would have fallen apart before it started. He even thanks her once she's at his mercy.]] She appears to have toned it down in later books.
* HaremSeeker: Eric teases her about wanting a "knight harem" when he hears about her backstory with Siron and Culmus. She was hoping they would become BashBrothers instead of falling to {{Cockfight}}ing.
* HellFire: She possesses ''Sacred'' Fire which comes from the fire goddess Fiol. Unlike regular fire or magic fire, this stuff is divine in nature and is not bound by the same limitations. For instance, it can't be blocked by orichaclum.
* HeirClubForMen: It's averted in her country. As long as you have the royal blood, your gender doesn't matter.
* TheHighQueen: Starting in ''Looming Shadow'', she is a powerful and regal queen that enjoys the respect of her people.
* MagicEye: Her Evil Eye technique manifests as an overwhelming sense of dread and helplessness that burns away thoughts.
* PimpedOutDress: Being a royal, Kasile often wears fancy clothing and especially on special occasions like the Spring Joust or opening ceremony for the New Scepter competition. All of them involve embrodiery and layered skirts, and because she is Ataidaran royalty, there are a lot of rubbies, the royal crest is writ large on her sash, and the dresses themselves have fire motifs.
* PlayingWithFire: She has a special talent for fire magic because of her heritage.
* PowerDyesYourHair: Kasile would be a pure brunette if not for her RoyalBlood. It creates streaks of fire red.
* PrettyPrincessPowerhouse: Kasile invokes both parts of this trope as part her princess image; she dresses fashionably and effects a cute-and-proper persona in public while also training in both physical and magical combat with mercenaries.
* PrincessesPreferPink: Princess Kasile of Ataidar wears pink dresses when she is a princess. After she becomes queen, she moves onto other colors.
* RoyalBlood: Inherited the royal bloodline from her mother. This is why the country places high expectations on her and why she herself has such high standards for herself.
* RoyaltySuperPower: The royal bloodline enables her to produce and control Sacred Fire, which is divine magic.
* SemiDivine: A direct descendent of the fire goddess Fiol, but there's a lot of human blood between the two of them. She's basically mortal but has access to divine magic.
* SupernaturalGoldEyes: Her gold eye color reflects her divine heritage.
* SuperpowerfulGenetics: Her blood makes her semi-divine because her ancestor is the fire goddess Fiol.

[[folder: Henry Pupil Senior]]
The royal archivist.
* LivingForeverIsAwesome: It's implied that he was already an old man two thousand years ago when he spoke with a young Dengel. He's still merrily recording history and looking for new sources of excitement.
* OlderIsBetter: His office has not been renovated in two thousand years and he's still reading by candle light and writting with link quills. He prefers the old-fashioned look.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: He's old enough to have spoken with Dengel when Dengel was Eric's age. Eric himself notes that he looks old enough to be someone's grandfather, but not the founder of their family line.
* RetiredBadass: Henry Pupil Senior is an archiver working for Ataidar's royal government and, at some point in his immortal life, he endured "a thousand years of bloodshed". Quelling all the personal demons that come from such an experience might be why he's content to spend his time recording history in a tower.

[[folder: The Royal Ordercraft Security and Compliance Team]]
The ROSCT are five young women that work for the Crown of Ataidar as experts on Ordercraft. They maintain the runes on the city and palace walls, investigate ordercraft-based crime and protect the populace against unlawful use of ordercraft.
* ElitesAreMoreGlamorous: They are an elite team that reports directly to the Crown of Ataidar (in this case, Queen Kasile). Their armor is unique and their position affords them greater status than most ranks in the country's military.
* GrammarNazi: They insist upon correct, standardized, grammar from those they interact with. Their leader once scolded Eric for saying "can I go" instead of "may I go".
* LadyLegionnaireWear: All five members wear pteruges as part of their uniform. It's a symbolic piece of equipment that shows the four animals of Avatar Alliance's Justice Station.
* TheTeam: They always work as a unit contributing their specialities to the team's goal. Kimberly is their leader and the rest of them have technical expertise in a given field.
* VanityIsFeminine: Averted as they don't carry hand mirrors to check or correct their beauty. They are for monitoring their progression of silver-grey hairs which mark the level of ordercraft corruption within them.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Fairtheora the Lawkeeper]]
An orc who holds the position of "Royal Sentinel" in Ataidar's government and royal castle guard.
* AnimatedArmor: His armor can move on its own.
* CrazyPrepared: He has, at least, 42 emergency procedures programed into his armor. He also carries a pink bunny ear headband in case he ever needs to diminish his TerrorHero factor and make someone comfortable in his presence.
* FriendOrIdolDecision: Defied. His 42nd emergency procedure involves turning control of his armor over to an AI so it can act independently; it can go after the idol while he himself goes after the friend.
* NighInvulnerable: Fairtheora is an orc, which makes him pretty tough already, and then he wears a special suit of metal armor that amplifies his resistance to magic. In addition to this is his [[BarrierWarrior formidable spirit barrier]]. His job description as "royal sentinel" means he has to be tough enough that the sitting Ataidar monarch can stand behind him and be perfectly safe regardless of what comes her way.
* OneManArmy: During ''Literature/AMagesPower'', he guarded Ataidar's border with Latrot (half of the southern border) by himself. Kasile's father thought that anything more would be superfluous.
* TheMagnificent: His orcish epithet is "The Lawkeeper", and as he is Ataidar's Royal Sentinel, it is a fitting name.
* TerrorHero: According to Kasile, part of his job description is to scare everyone around him into obeying the law (i.e. her law).
-->'''Eric''': ''Your sentinel is scary."
-->'''Kasile''': "That's what I pay him for."
* ToThePain: To convince Gruffle to surrender, he described a scenario where he dismembers the troll and then sticks the rest into his stew "while you are still alive and bleeding".
