!! Main Characters
[[folder: Marietta]]
!! Marietta Candor
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1526665631_cast_marietta1.jpg]]

The heroine of the story. The adopted daughter of the local detective of her village. Though her father has gone missing and she thinks it might have something to do with the woods.
----
* {{Determinator}}: Spunky girl who has some prodigal detective skill on her.
* FieryRedhead: Naturally she's a red head.
* GeniusDitz: Has some decent detective skills, but, being only 12, she lacks survivor skills and situational awareness. Heck, she came into the woods on a whim and was woefully under-prepared for what she was getting into.
* HappilyAdopted: A survivor of a town fire and adopted by the local detective who was looking into the arson case.
* KidDetective: She passes herself off as one and does have some skill, but still has a lot to learn.
* LeeroyJenkins: She's brave but very foolhardy and has a habit of getting in over her head. It's obvious that if she hadn't run into Wyatt, she wouldn't have survived the starting points of the woods.
* LieDetector: Has a magnifying glass that can tell if someone's lying.
* SpannerInTheWorks: Implied for whatever the Conductor has planned. The Storyteller cites since she doesn't have a ticket, this effectively makes Marietta one since he can't control her.
* {{Tomboy}}: Carries this distinction, she's not afraid to get rough if she must.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Wyatt]]
!! Wyatt Wiess
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1526665659_maincast_wyatt2.jpg]]

A paranormal investigator whom Marietta meets at the train station who is studying the woods.
----
* BigDamnHeroes: He prevents Marietta from taking the ticket when the Conductor offers her one.
* GadgeteerGenius: If Milly's words are anything to go by, he is one. He manages to save Marietta and himself with a device when the Conductor tries to blast the pair
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: He's suffering from amnesia and not sure what he was doing before coming into the woods. The Conductor knows him as does Milly and both seem to have beef with him though he isn't sure why.
* TheReveal: [[spoiler: The third chapter shows he has a ticket of his own. After seeing what happened to Owen, he's now worried about his own fate.]]
* StoicSpectacles: Slightly, he's sociable but very cautious. Considering how dangerous the woods are, it's justified.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Whistle]]
!! Whistle
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1526666596_ghostdog.jpg]]

A ghost dog Marietta encounters when first entering into the woods.
----
* DarkIsNotEvil: A ghost but a friendly one.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: During a brief flashback, we see him alive in one of Lucas' photos.
* OneWingedAngel: He can turn into a much larger version of himself if his friends are in danger.
* RedHerring: He's the supposed "demon" of the Labyrinth Inn whom Lawrence had tried to get the guests to get rid of. Turns out Whistle was just patrolling the grounds in his larger form at the behest of Harris. The fact that he was shadowed didn't help matters.
* TheReveal: He's actually Lawrence and Harris' pet.
* TeamPet: To the Marietta and Wyatt for a bit.
[[/folder]]

!! Inhabitants of the Village
[[folder: Lucas Candor]]
!! Lucas Candor
[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ow_lucas_candor_2.jpg]]

Marietta's adopted father.
----
* DisappearedDad: He just went missing one day without a trace. Marietta's goal is to find him.
* GoodParents: From what little we see of him in flashbacks, he was a good father to Marietta.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Gloria Mornings]]
!! Gloria Mornings
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1526707368_cast_gloria.jpg]]

One of the more competent investigators of the village.
----
* NotNowKiddo: Marietta had tried to get her to look into a letter that was sent to her father's house. But she just wrote it off as a prank someone was playing on her.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Somewhat. She's one of the more ace detectives of the village, but she's likewise a bit cynical. At the least she does show concern when Marietta ventures into Departure Acres and suggests getting a search party to look for her.
* SurroundedByIdiots: Feels this way at times considering Doubts barely has a grasp on the job and Nova... is Nova.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Doubts]]
!! Officer Doubts
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1526707362_cast_doubts.jpg]]

A bumbling local cop of Marietta's village.
----
* NiceGuy: It nothing else, he tries to be nice and does sympathize with Marietta after learning her adopted father is missing.
* PoliceAreUseless: He tries, he really does, but more often than not he causes more problems than he helps with such as abandoning his post to guard the entrance of a manor during a crime investigation, which allowed Marietta to sneak in, and ending up lost in the manor when trying to look for clues. Likewise he didn't want to follow Marietta into Departure Acres due to his own fear preventing him, opting to go get Gloria and Nova while trusting Marietta to stay put at the entrance. Three guess how that goes.
* ProperlyParanoid: He believes in the ghost train myth despite Gloria and Nova thinking otherwise. But turns out he's right.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Inspector Nova]]
!! Inspector Nova
[[quoteright:195:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ow_nova.jpg]]

One of the more pompous investigators of the village.
----
* CoolShades: He wears a pair.
* InspectorJavert: Always one to jump to the first conclusion he comes to without really doing much investigating.
* LanternJawOfJustice: His design has his face have one. But personality-wise, he's not exactly what you would call "heroic".
* LargeHam: He likes to be over-dramatic when investigating.
* MilesGloriosus: Likes to think of himself as an ace detective, but the moment something dangerous comes up he'll head for the hills.
* NotNowKiddo: Like Gloria, he just sees any problem most of the kids come to Gloria and him with as just childish fare without really looking into things. Apparently this has been a contributing problem to a lot of missing cases around the village. [[spoiler: Including the one involving Velia, as a flashback had Owen come to him to look into her disappearance, only to have it be dismissed as a runaway case.]]
[[/folder]]

!! Inhabitants of the Woods
[[folder: The Conductor]]
!! The Conductor
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1526707357_cast_conductor.jpg]]

The conductor of the train that runs through the woods.
----
* BigBad: Set up as one in the series, being the cause behind the tickets [[spoiler: though the end of the third chapter suggests there might be others involved.]]
* DealWithTheDevil: Those that board his train are given the option of being killed on the spot or take a ticket from him which does allow the user to travel through the woods on the train freely at the expense of a "favor" from him [[spoiler: which normally involves killing another ticket holder. If the timer reaches its end, the inhabitant becomes a tree monster from which the Conductor takes their souls.]]
* GhostTrain: He runs one and is ''highly'' protective of it. [[spoiler: Despite Marinetta not really being out to stop him, he worries her investigations will lead to a lack of souls to run it which in turn will cause it to disappear, and decides to personally get involved. The fact he couldn't give her a ticket likewise seems to irk him since she isn't under any obligation to him.]]
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Depicted as such with big glowing eyes.
* YourSoulIsMine: [[spoiler: He collects souls via the tickets since it's the only source to power the train.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Car Attendant]]
!! Car Attendant
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1526707456_cast_attendant.jpg]]

An impish car attendant who looks after the train when the conductor is away.
----
* LazyBum: He doesn't really care much for his job and can usually be found slacking off.
* NoGoodDeedGoesUnpunished: He helps Marietta figure out the nature of the letter and clues her in that she's in danger. The conductor punishes him by forcing him to leave the train and spy on Marietta and Wyatt for him.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: The Storyteller]]
!! The Storyteller
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1526707373_cast_storyteller.jpg]]

A odd resident of the woods who documents the stories of travelers.
----
* AmbiguouslyEvil: It's hard to tell if she's malicious or not. She seems friendly enough when Marietta and Wyatt meet her, stating she enjoys when new travelers come into the woods though would like one where they didn't meet a "bad end" per se, even offering them tea and having given Wyatt a map that'll lead to the back way out of the woods. But Wyatt is utterly put off by her since the map was hard to read, when she was serving tea the cup had ''bones'' in it (Marietta was looking away at the time, allowing the Storyteller to hide them) and the whole episode with the books brings up even more doubt. [[spoiler: Considering she was also the reason Harris, Lawrence and their mothers were turned into werewolves likewise adds fuel to the fire. Then again, she seems to be against the Conductor's actions as well]].
* BerserkButton: ''Do not'' touch her books. When Marietta reached for one out of curiosity, she suddenly lunged at her and screeched for her to back away before managing to regain her composure and claiming she's embarrassed by people reading them.
* BigDamnHeroes: Saved Marietta and Wyatt from a tree monster.
* EyesOutOfSight: She always has hair over her eyes, the only time they're really seen is when she gets angry.
* MultiArmedAndDangerous: A four armed being.
* NightmareFace: Made one due to the aforementioned BerserkButton.
* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: She can be rather... excitable when meeting new people.
[[/folder]]

!! Labyrinth Inn Arc

[[folder: Lawrence]]
!! Lawrence
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1526666130_cast_lawrence.jpg]]

The owner of the Labyrinth Inn. He invites some rather questionable customers over to help take care of a monster problem.
----
* BigBrotherBully: Harris states him as such, practically forcing him into going along with his scheme.
* DidntThinkThisThrough: Inviting complete strangers to his inn despite knowing that people will be looking for them due to his werewolf nature. Three of whom were indeed doing just that.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: The foolish to Harris' responsible.
* LargeHam: Very much one for flourish in an effort to come off as an eccentric host. No one takes him seriously though.
* OneWingedAngel: He manages to shift into his werewolf form to save Marietta, Wyatt and Harris from the collapsing hotel.
* OurWerewolvesAreDifferent: Both Harris and he are werewolves, apparently a by-product from their parents who were turned into them by the Storyteller.
* RedHerring: He was thought to be the one who murdered Velia by Owen due to a lot of clues pointing to him. But it turned out to be circumstantial evidence and, despite his demeanor, he was innocent all along.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: As a werewolf, he can take on the form of a massive wolf with super-strength, however he doesn’t like his looks in his transformed state so he avoid changing... up until Wyatt says he likes it, at which point Lawrence decides to look like a wolf all the time.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Harris]]
!! Harris
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1526666159_cast_harris.jpg]]

Lawrence's little brother who helps run the Labyrinth Inn.
----
* DidntThinkThisThrough: As admirable as it was to have Whistle patrolling the grounds. He neglected to tell Lawrence about it which in turn made him think that Whistle was the supposed demon of the inn and the whole invitation ploy to get rid of it.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: The responsible to Lawrence's foolish.
* GetOut: Tries to get Marietta and Wyatt to leave once they reach the inn, thinking the two were there to cause trouble. Marietta however refuses and Lawrence ends up overriding him.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: With most of the suspects trapped in a cell, Marietta had them in place to question them if they were Silva's killer. But Harris snatched the key to their cell from her, wanting to get them to all leave as soon as possible. This allowed Capella to snatch it from him and free the others. What's more, Leo and she, along with Arthur turned out to be specifically after him and his family due to being werewolves, albeit for different reasons (Leo and Capella trying to force them into being attractions at their carnival. Arthur trying to kill them and take their werewolf pelts).
* OurWerewolvesAreDifferent: Both Lawrence and he are werewolves, apparently a by-product from their parents who were turned into them by the Storyteller.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Silvia ('''MAJOR SPOILERS''')]]
!! Silvia/Veila
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1526666201_cast_silvia.jpg]]

[[caption-width-right:250:[[labelnote:Click here to see her human form]]https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ow_velia_human_form.jpg]][[/labelnote]]

A ghost girl who haunts the inn.
----
* DyingClue: Well, fading away clue anyway. But after Anita breaks the sword which was the only thing keeping her on the mortal plane, she tells Marietta that someone from the village threw her into the woods and leaves a name for Marietta to go off of.
* CuteGhostGirl: Very much so, at least until she starts getting impatient at Marietta's progress, then not so much.
* JacobMarleyApparel: She was stabbed to death with a sword which transfer to her ghostly form. Once she turns more threatening, she's able to pull out the sword and use it as her main weapon.
* NoOntologicalInertia: As a poltergeist, she's tethered to the living world by the sword that killed her, which is still stuck in her corpse. Once it's destroyed, she passes on.
* OneWingedAngel: As she grows more impatient with the progress of Marietta's investigation, she starts to turn more malicious, turning darker as a result.
* TheReveal: She's Owens girlfriend whose real name is Velia Vice (Silvia was a name that Marietta had given her due to the fact she was "sliver" looking, since Velia had forgotten her name.) who was cast into the woods and had the misfortune to run into the conductor who gave her a ticket. The time on the ticket ran out and turned her into a tree monster and she was killed by someone trying to protect Owen from her new feral state.
* WhoDunnitToMe: Wants to know how she died and requests this of Marietta to help solve it during the arc as she feels one of the guests there did the deed. While she's right, the circumstances are a whole other story.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Owen]]
!! Owen
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1526666177_cast_owen.jpg]]

One of the guests who comes across the hotel.
----
* AllForNothing: He had came to the woods hoping to find Veila whom had suddenly vanished from the village she was in. With the conductor's help he managed to find her, but by then the time on her ticket had ran out and turned her into a tree monster who, supposedly, attacked him. Only prevented due to someone saving him. What's more he had come to the hotel thinking to find her killer and kill them to fulfill the contract so he could leave the woods. It ended up being fruitless because none of the suspects there murdered her [[spoiler: At least not out of malicious intent]].
* ForcedTransformation: Once his ticket runs out, he turns into a tree monster and is snatched up by The Conductor.
* NiceGuy: He's very cordial, sensible and makes friends with Marietta and Wyatt very quickly.
* YouAreTooLate: He reveals he likewise got a ticket from the Conductor, but the time on it runs out when Marietta tries to get him to come with them and find a way out of the woods.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Anita]]
!! Anita
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1526666253_cast_anita.png]]

A guest that look like a hiker.
----
* BigDamnHeroes:
** Saves the group from Leo, Capella and Arthur after they get freed from the hold where the trap dropped them into.
** She breaks the sword that was keeping Silvia tethered to the mortal plane to prevent her turning into a malicious ghost to save the protagonists.
* IDidWhatIHadToDo: It's implied that she was the one that saved Owen from the newly transformed Velia. Indirectly killing her to keep her from harming him. Ultimately she finishes the job after Velia nearly turns into a malicious poltergeist to give her soul peace.
* TheReveal: Actually a close friend of Lawrence and Harris's family. She came to the inn out of worry when she didn't hear back from the brothers' parents.
* SilentBob: Doesn't utter a word through her appearances.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Milly]]
!! Milly
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ow_milly.jpg]]

A odd girl whom has a grudge against Wyatt.
----
* BerserkButton: She seems to have an inferiority complex, as when Marietta calls her out for her bullying behavior, Milly goes into a massive fit that she was the one given the task to get the keys.
* BrattyHalfPint: Comes across this way if her attitude to Marietta and Wyatt is any indication.
* BunglingInventor: She has some skill, but her bot being beaten by being insulted pretty much showcases that she's not the most keen of inventors.
* FourEyesZeroSoul: Another glasses wearer, but not at all a nice person.
* TheRival: Apparently one to Wyatt if her words are anything to go by, though his memory loss prevents him from knowing who she is. Though on a more serious front, she's one to find the keys to the back way out of the woods. Apparently having been given the mission to find them by the Storyteller herself.
* SmallNameBigEgo: She has an extremely high opinion of herself.
* WeWillMeetAgain: When her robot malfunctions and ends up launching both it and herself out of the hotel, she yells that the pair hasn't seen the last of her.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Ion]]
!! Ion
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ow_ion.jpg]]

Milly's robot partner.
----
* {{Hypocrite}}: Claims Marietta will pay for bullying Milly despite ''Milly'' clearly being the one threatening Wyatt and her, while Marietta was defending herself. Marietta calls him out for it.
* MiniMecha: Milly rides around in him like one.
* WeaksauceWeakness: Being insulted, when Marietta calls it a "rusted hunk of junk", this is enough to cause it to fly off in sadness much to Milly's chagrin.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Leo & Capella]]
!! Leo & Capella
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1526666220_cast_capellaleo.png]]

A pair of female carnival workers who just happened to drop by the hotel the same night as the protagonists.
----
* BadassInANiceSuit: Supposedly, we don't really get to see their skills but they ''did'' manage to get out of the hotel unscathed by the end of the arc and apparently are good game hunters. Likewise they wear some really spiffy suits.
* BigGuyLittleGuy: Leo's the tallest of the pair while Capella's the shortest one
* EvilVersusEvil: They're in competition against Arthur on claiming the werewolves for themselves. In this case, they're after the group to be an attraction for their circus.
* HalfHumanHybrid: Cited to be "Chimeras" by Arthur.
* HairTriggerTemper: Capella is not exactly one for being calm, getting riled if someone insults her.
* HiddenWeapons: When they nearly get into an altercation with Arthur over who gets the werewolves, the duo pull out some knives from their person, Capella practically having a row of them from her sleeves.
* {{Jerkass}}: Capella is just completely unpleasant to be around, practically insulting people left and right, nearly getting into fights over any insult thrown her way, demanding Marietta save them when Leo, Arthur and she fall into a trap and, when Silvia starts to go after the guests accusing them of murdering her, Capella directs her to Lawrence just to save her own skin.
* ALighterShadeOfBlack: Capella tries to convince Harris to come with them after hearing Arthur had planned to skin him and his family for their werewolf pelts. Citing at least Leo and she were trying to capture his family alive. Of course the prospect of being in a cage to be gawked at as a sideshow freak isn't much better.
* TheMole: The two came to the hotel hearing about the supposed werewolves and were looking to capture them for carnival attraction. At the end of the arc, Leo abandons this to focus on Wyatt after seeing Owen turn into a plant monster.
* TheStoic: Leo, who's the least expressive of the pair.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Arthur]]
!! Arthur
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1526666299_cast_arthur.png]]

One of the other guests that came across the hotel, claims to be a professional investigator.
----
* EvilOldFolks: A poacher who's in his 80s.
* EvilVersusEvil: He's in competition with Leo and Capella on claiming the werewolves for himself. In his case, he wants to kill them for their pelts.
* FlatEarthAtheist: Doesn't believe in the supernatural and thinks Marietta's claims are just her playing around.
* FurAndLoathing: He wears a fur coat and makes note of it and likewise has a poster that labels him as a game hunter. Eventually it's revealed he came to the inn ''just to skin all the werewolves for their pelts''.
* GrumpyOldMan: He's the oldest of the hotel guests and doesn't try to get along with anyone, warning them to stay out of his way or else.
* {{Jerkass}}: Rude, impatient and implied to not be fond of children. So naturally this puts him at odds with Marietta and Wyatt.
* TooDumbToLive: When Anita points her tranq rifle at him, he doesn't see it as a threat. Then she fires, hits his left arm and leaves half of his body numb.
