A list of characters appearing in ''Fanfic/FallWithThePetals''. '''Beware of unmarked spoilers for canon!'''
----
[[foldercontrol]]

[[folder:The Phantom Thieves of Hearts]]

!Yukiko Amagi / Phoenix
->''Please come again.''

-->'''Arcana:''' The Priestess, The Fool, [[spoiler:The World]]
-->'''Persona:''' [[Myth/JapaneseMythology Konohana Sakuya,]] [[spoiler:[[Myth/JapaneseMythology Amaterasu]]]]
-->'''Weapons:''' [[PaperFanOfDoom Bladed Fans]] and {{Handguns}}

Yes, ''that'' [[VideoGame/Persona4 Yukiko]] [[YamatoNadeshiko Amagi]]. Born in December 8th, [[AgeLift 1999]], the heiress of the Amagi Inn found herself exiled from Yasoinaba and put on probation, [[MiscarriageOfJustice all in an attempt to save a woman from being raped from a drunk politician.]] This didn't go very well, and she found herself stuck in Tokyo for a year. A chance encounter with Chie Satonaka and other fellow misfits would make her probation all the more bizarre.

* ActionGirl: Oh, very much so. As if she wasn't badass enough, she's now a ''PhantomThief'' on top of it!
* AdaptationalBadass: Played straight and [[DownplayedTrope downplayed.]] While she's obviously a lot more badass due to being a PhantomThief on top of a Persona-user, Yukiko having the WildCard ability gives her a very helpful boost too. Otherwise, she's virtually the same level of power as her canonical counterpart, if a bit more adept.
* AdaptationalSexuality: While yet to be canonized as of yet, Yukiko and Chie are one of the confirmed couples for the fanfic, and they already clearly show a ''lot'' of LesYay subtext.
* AgeLift: Yukiko was born in December 8th, 1999. The day and month match up, but for the sake of the setting taking place, Yukiko was born later in this continuity than her canonical 1994. (To which she would be 22 by the setting's beginning.)
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Yukiko is very kind and forgiving, but she does ''not'' tolerate cruelty of any kind whatsoever. After [[spoiler:Shiho is raped by Kamoshida and the former is nearly pushed to suicide, Yukiko coldly admits that she wouldn't care if a botched heist in the Metaverse killed Kamoshida or not, much to Chie's surprise.]]
* BewareTheSillyOnes: Likewise, despite her goofiness, she very competent leader and has a hidden talent for making snap-decisions in an extreme scenario, a trait likened towards Akira.
* ClassyCatBurglar: She has this general aesthetic, though not to the extent of [[CatGirl Ann]] costume-wise.
* CompositeCharacter: Takes the place of Persona 5's main protagonist.
* DrivesLikeCrazy: Ye gods. Justified, as learning driving from ''VideoGame/CrazyTaxi'' will do that.
* TheHeroine: The main protagonist of the fanfic.
* TheHyena: An utter goofball who bursts out laughing at the dumbest jokes, much like in canon.
* PlayingWithFire: While she can use any Persona as virtue of the WildCard ability, her starting Persona Konohana Sakuya's specialty is incineration.
* SilkHidingSteel: Yukiko can be polite, elegant and lady-like, [[BewareTheNiceOnes but she can be utterly ruthless when she needs to be.]] Helps that she's the ''leader'' of the Phantom Thieves, indicating she's ''far'' from some pretty face.
* YamatoNadeshiko: It's Yukiko, what do you expect? Of course, this is zig-zagged: on top of writes about having the same GildedCage issues she does in canon, she's a lot more rebellious and takes to being a PhantomThief like a fish to water.

!Chie Satonaka / Dragon
->''Don't think. Feel.''

-->'''Arcana:''' The Chariot, The Aeon
-->'''Persona:''' [[Myth/JapaneseMythology Tomoe]], [[spoiler:[[Myth/JapaneseMythology Suzuka Gongen]]]]
-->'''Weapons:''' [[KickChick Boots]] and [[ShotgunsAreJustBetter Pepper]][[HandCannon guns]]

The plucky secondary female lead of the fanfic, and yes, it's ''that'' [[VideoGame/Persona4 Chie]] [[TomboyWithAGirlyStreak Satonaka]]. Born in Yasoinaba yet having move into Tokyo at a young age, Chie ends up meeting [[YamatoNadeshiko Yukiko]] [[TheHero Amagi]] on her first day in school, and through the mishaps of the Metaverse and all related shenanigans, formed a strong friendship sex with each other. After awakening to her Persona, she seeks to get even with [[EvilTeacher Kamoshida]] for what he did with Chie's friend from childhood, Takeshi.

* ActionGirl: Much in the same caliber as Yukiko. She was already tough in her canon appearance, but being a PhantomThief arguably made her even tougher than she was in said canon appearance.
* ACupAngst: Chie's interpreted with... [[UsefulNotes/{{Pettanko}} less than impressive breasts.]] She's more than a little envious of [[BuxomBeautyStandard Yukiko's blessings.]]
* AdaptationalSexuality: Much like Yukiko. While the pairing hasn't be canonized yet, it's already been confirmed in the tags, and they ''already'' possess a ton of LesYay accompanying their actions.
* AnIcePerson: Her specialty regarding her Persona, much like in canon.
* BadassAdorable: Sweet, shy, cheerful, and all-around adorable. Also a practitioner of [[KickChick Jeet Kune Do]] and just as tough as her friend.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: And ''how!'' She may be one of the nicest people in the team so far, but she's just as unforgiving of cruelty as her friend Yukiko. Don't try to hunt the weak, or you'll be kicked into the stratosphere.
* BigEater: She, much like in canon, is a massive enthusiast for anything meat-related.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: [[spoiler:She was friends with Takeru in this timeline, [[AdaptationalNiceGuy who was noticeably a lot more friendly this time around.]] Unfortunately, him joining the male's volleyball team proved to be a fatal mistake on his part, as all the abuse he put up from Kamoshida pushed him to suicide. [[ItsPersonal Even now, Chie's profoundly affected by this and wants vengeance on Kamoshida.]]]]
* TheLancer: Serves this alongside Ryuji to Yukiko's [[TheHero Hero]].
* ItsPersonal: She has ''never'' forgiven Kamoshida for [[spoiler:pushing Takeru to suicide, and wants to get even with him.]]
* KickChick: Her specialty in regards to fighting is self-taught Jeet Kune Do, much like in canon.
* ToBeLawfulOrGood: Out of all the founding Phantom Thieves, Chie shows the greatest deal of doubt and reluctance in using the Metaverse to bring corrupt officials to justice, likely due to Chie's canonical tendency towards order.
* {{Tomboy}}: A total tomboy at heart. However...
* TomboyWithAGirlyStreak: She has her girly side too. An offhand comment made for filling in Chie's Rank 3 Confidant [[WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes has her freaking out over bugs]], while she's [[CantSpitItOut very flustered and crush-y around Yukiko.]]

!Ryuji Sakamoto / Skull
->''Freakin' boring!''

-->'''Arcana:''' The Chariot
-->'''Persona:''' [[UsefulNotes/TheGoldenAgeOfPiracy Captain Kidd]], [[spoiler:[[Literature/JourneyToTheWest Seiten Taisei]]]]
-->'''Weapons:''' [[CarryABigStick Bludgeons]] and [[ShotgunsAreJustBetter Shotguns]]

[[JapaneseDelinquents A juvenile delinquent]] who was formerly the star of the track team, Ryuji's sports career [[CareerEndingInjury came to an abrupt end when Kamoshida broke his leg, disbanded the track team, and made Ryuji a social pariah.]] After seeing Yukiko and Chie vanish in mid-air, he's drawn to the affairs of the Metaverse and soon gains a Persona of his own. Now, he serves as one of the founding members of the Phantom Thieves of Hearts, dedicated to bringing evil people in untouchable positions of power to justice.

* AllLoveIsUnrequited: [[ButtMonkey Poor Ryuji.]] He gains a huge crush on Chie, [[IncompatibleOrientation but Chie has her sights set on somebody else...]]
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Ryuji's is a ''lot'' [[NiceGuy friendlier than he seems to be.]] Nonetheless, he's just as spiteful to evil as his friends, and he'll crush his enemies with Captain Kidd.
* TheBigGuy / TheLancer: Serves as both of this (though the former more so than the latter) to Yukiko.
* BookDumb: Ryuji isn't very smart when it comes to academics, much like in canon.
* BoisterousBruiser: Serves as TheBigGuy for the founding members, and is the most physically oriented and most emotional of the group.
* ButtMonkey: It's Ryuji. What did you expect?
* CareerEndingInjury: Had his leg broken at some point in his track team career. [[spoiler:This nearly bit him on the ass when he collapsed from his crappy leg when escaping from Kamoshida's Palace, but Chie was there to help him out.]]
* CynicismCatalyst: He's was very bitter over Kamoshida getting away with what he did to the track team, but [[TookALevelInJerkass unlike some examples]], [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold Ryuji still remained a good person at the end of the day.]]
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Of course: [[spoiler:his leg was broken by [[EvilTeacher Kamoshida]], with another kid falling victim to the same abuse. Angered beyond belief, Ryuji punched Kamoshida, giving him excuse to dismantle the track team and make Ryuji a social pariah. Ever since, [[CynicismCatalyst he's a lot more bitter and cynical]], [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold but he still is]] [[NiceGuy a good person.]]]]
* DoggedNiceGuy: A NiceGuy through-and-through, [[AllLoveIsUnrequited but his crush on Chie is unfortunately unrequited.]]
* HopelessSuitor: See AllLoveIsUnrequited. He's unfortunately this to Chie, whom he has [[IncompatibleOrientation Incompatible Orientations]] with.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He's very brash and abrasive, but cares very deeply for his friends.
* NiceGuy: As mentioned above, he's really a sweet person at the end of the day, very much like in canon.
* ShockAndAwe: His specialty in terms of magic, just like in canon.
* VitriolicBestBuds: He's a lot more cordial with Morgana than he is in canon: even though they still bicker, Ryuji's definitely open to the idea of exploring the Metaverse to help Morgana [[BecomeARealBoy become a human again]], leading them to be on better terms than they were in canon. [[spoiler:How this affects Okumura's Palace remains to be seen...]]

!Morgana / Mona

->''Mission accomplished!''

-->'''Arcana:''' The Magician
-->'''Persona:''' Franchise/{{Zorro}}, [[spoiler:[[Myth/ClassicalMythology Mercurius]]]]
-->'''Weapons:''' [[SinisterScimitar Curved Swords]] and [[BratsWithSlingshots Slingshots]]

A feline mascot... ''[[BuffySpeak thingy]]'' that was discovered by Yukiko and Chie in Kamoshida's Palace. Has no memories of their prior life, but he says with absolute certainty that he was a human at one point, and was turned this way due to the Distortion of the Metaverse mutating him. [[BecomeARealBoy It's his goal to become a human again]], so he tagged along with the party in order to find out what his identity truly is.

* AllLoveIsUnrequited: His feelings for Ann are not requited. Granted, [[IncompatibleOrientation he never had much of a chance anyway]], but it still hits him hard given his feline form is getting in the way of his happiness.
* AmbiguouslyHuman: Whether Morgana is human at all, we're not certain. And if the fanfic goes in a similar way to canon, [[spoiler: Morgana would be a creation of Igor to stop Yaldabaoth.]]
* BecomeARealBoy: His ultimate endgame goal.
* BadassAdorable: D'awww, who's an adorable widdle kitty cat - ''[[BlowYouAway OH GOD, WHERE DID THAT TORNADO COME FROM?!]]''
* BewareTheNiceOnes: A staple of the Phantom Thieves at this point. Kind and understanding, but ''ruthless'' when he needs to be.
* BlowYouAway: His specialty in regards to magic is wind magic.
* CatsAreMean: Despite being rather nice at times, he can be rather abrasive at the same time. [[VitriolicBestBuds His bickering with Ryuji highlights this.]]
* CatsAreSnarkers / DeadpanSnarker: He can also be really snippy if the situation calls for it.
* {{Determinator}}: He will ''not'' stop at anything to become human, not even shadows.
* HeroicBSOD: Has one when Ann becomes a couple with Shiho. It's less out of selfishness so much as its the hammering realization that he'll ''never'' be happy as long as he's a cat. Fortunately, [[spoiler:the party resolves to turn Morgana into a human, and intends on resuming exploration of the Metaverse in lieu of that goal.]]
* TheSmartGuy: Surprisingly intelligent for his age, and acts as the brains of the founding team until somebody more proficient comes along.
* VagueAge: Morgana's age is never really stated clearly, though WordOfGod said in notes that he feels as though Morgana's in equivalence of being 12 years old.
* VitriolicBestBuds: Bickers a ''lot'' with Ryuji, but the party's vow to help Morgana helps them become a lot friendlier with each other.

!Ann Takamaki / Panther

->''OMG!! We are SO awesome!''

-->'''Arcana:''' The Lovers
-->'''Persona:''' Theatre/{{Carmen}}, [[spoiler:[[Myth/ClassicalMythology Hecate]]]]
-->'''Weapons:''' Whips and [[MoreDakka Submachine Guns]]

[[AdaptationalNationality A half-Danish and half-Japanese student]], Ann Takamaki was bullied as a kid - and to this day - due to her foreign heritage. Her only friend as of the fanfic's beginning is [[ShrinkingViolet Shiho]] [[NiceGirl Suzui]], whom she was friends with since middle school. But when [[spoiler:Shiho is pushed to an attempted suicide [[MoralEventHorizon after being raped by Kamoshida]],]] Ann joined the Phantom Thieves in the hopes of avenging her best friend and bringing down Kamoshida.
----
* ActionGirl: Is basically a fusion of Yukiko and Chie combat-wise: a lot more physically-oriented than Yukiko, but possessing of more magical finesse than Chie does.
* AdaptationalNationality: Ann, in canon, is quarter-White, while here she's half-Danish. Somewhat justified given that quarter-White people aren't as likely to inherit blonde hair as a half-Danish person, given how dominant and recessive genes work.
* AdaptationalSexuality: She's a heterosexual love interest in her canonical appearance in ''VideoGame/Persona5'', while she's limited to LesYay with Shiho [[AmbiguouslyGay (as mountainous as it was)]]. Here, she and Shiho have a mutual crush on each other, one that gets set in stone during Ann and Shiho's LoveEpiphany.
* BadassAdorable: Cheerful, bubbly, full of energy, [[PlayingWithFire and a walking flamethrower as far as her Persona is concerned.]]
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Out of all the people in the Phantom Thieves, Ann was the only one who felt no regret [[spoiler:subjecting Kamoshida to his cruel mercy, not even a little bit. This is justified [[MoralEventHorizon given what Kamoshida's done]], but it's a shocking departure to the NiceGirl Ann usually is.]]
* BerserkButton: Post-Kamoshida, anyone threatening Shiho is enough to set her off ''hard.''
* CruelMercy: Ann subjects [[spoiler:Kamoshida]] to a nasty one by making him regret his actions for the rest of his life. She even says word-for-word how death was too easy of an exit for him.
* GirlyGirl: Ann's the most effeminate of the group ''and'' TheHeart as well (see below).
* TheHeart: The emotional link between the team and the biggest empath, Ann serves as this for the founding team.
* LoveEpiphany: Both Ann and Shiho broke into a mini-rant each detailing how much they love each other, during a particularly heated moment where Shiho was [[BreakTheCutie dealing with her]] ''[[BreakTheCutie own]]'' [[BreakTheCutie problems.]]
* NiceGirl: Undoubtedly sweet and friendly most of the time, [[BewareTheNiceOnes though watch out if you anger her.]]
* PlayingWithFire: Her Persona's specialty regarding magic, alongside [[GoodThingYouCanHeal healing magic.]]

!Yusuke Kitagawa / Fox

->''It was fun while it lasted. Goodbye.''

-->'''Arcana:''' The Emperor
-->'''Persona:''' [[UsefulNotes/IshikawaGoemon Goemon]], [[Myth/JapaneseMythology Kamu Susano-o]]
-->'''Weapons:''' [[KatanasAreJustBetter Katanas]] and [[MoreDakka Assault Rifles]]

A student at Kosei Public High school and artist-in-training, Yusuke is the ward and prime pupil of Ichiryusai Madarame-and, as the fact that "plagarist" is one of Madarame's talents, the primary target of his theft of ideals. Yusuke is a sheltered, aloof boy with a rather... [[CloudCuckooLander unique]] view of the world, not helped by Madarame's deliberate isolation of him to better control him.

* AbusiveParents: Portrayed more thoroughly than in canon. Yusuke initially refuses to believe that Madarame's treatment of him is abnormal, despite Yukiko's investigation of Madarame and his shared shack that shows that Madarame is ''obscenely'' strict and controlling of Yusuke.
* BerserkButton: Initially, insulting Madarame, though that fades once Yusuke realizes there is plenty of reason to hate Madarame. Calling him a "retard" due to his autism is one that lasts.
* BlackmailIsSuchAnUglyWord: [[spoiler:Explicitly his motive for the fic's version of the Nude Painting scene, as what he felt at the time was a PayEvilUntoEvil action.]]
* InnocentlyInsensitive: Played with. [[spoiler:He knew getting Chie to model nude for him was due to some blackmail, but not how victimized she would feel. This results in their SitcomArchNemesis relationship.]]
* SitcomArchNemesis: [[spoiler:To Chie, after the "Nude Painting" stunt had her as a victim.]]

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Allies and Confidants (Needs Work)]]

!Sae Niijima

The sister of Makoto Niijima and the person interrogating Yukiko Amagi in the present. Serves as a prosecutor attorney.

* FramingDevice: Her interrogation is one, as it is in canon.

!Sojiro Sakura

!Yuki Mishima

!Shiho Suzui

Ann's best friend [[spoiler:and later girlfriend]], and the primary current target of Kamoshida's attentions.

* AscendedExtra: Goes from one-off character to major supporting role, especially in Ann's segment of the plot.
* BreakTheCutie: Gets broken ''hard'' after [[spoiler:being raped by Kamoshida. And who can blame her?]]
* BrokenBird: ''Worse than canon'', as we see a lot of her ''after'' she was raped by Kamoshida, and she's even more melancholic and traumatized than before.
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: [[spoiler:With Ann, in the aftermath of the first heist.]]
* LipstickLesbian: [[spoiler:She's slightly girlier than her girlfriend, though Ann is hardly a ButchLesbian, just an ActionGirl.]]
* NiceGirl: Shiho is nothing but kind and sweet.
* TraumaButton: Even ''mentioning'' Kamoshida or anything related to him in the aftermath of her rape upsets her.

!Tae Takemi

!Munehisa Iwai

!Makoto Niijima

The younger sister of Sae Niijima, and a third-year student at Student High. A major character in canon who's importance is yet to be revealed.

* AdaptationalSexuality: [[spoiler:Explicitly in a romantic relationship with Haru in this canon.]]

!Naoto Shirogane
The original Detective Prince. Assigned to the Psychotic Breakdown Cases in Tokyo with partner Goro Akechi, only to be roped into the Phantom Thieves case.

* {{Bifauxnen}} / SweetPollyOliver: [[spoiler:Even the ''fic'' uses male pronouns for her before her gender reveal.]]
* CanonImmigrant: Much like Yukiko, Naoto is a Persona 4 character transplanted and aged up to fit Persona 5.
* {{Foil}}: To Akechi. [[spoiler:She's a detective hiding something, but she's hiding a [[SweetPollyOliver far more innocent secret]] than [[TheDragon Akechi]].]]

!Goro Akechi
The new Detective Prince, and Sae's (forced upon her) partner for a lot of the investigation.

* AdaptationalEarlyAppearance: Meets Yukiko by coincidence before she even knows who Madarame is personally, [[spoiler:which leads to him being more honest...]]
* AdaptationalHeroism: Very downplayed, but [[spoiler:his initial reasons for talking with Yukiko is just wanting a friend rather than an assignment from Shido.]]
* HiddenDepths: In contrast to canon, he's open about his inner misanthropy and how angry he is as soon as Yukiko chats him up.
* ObviouslyEvil: Played with, in that this is why Yukiko decided to strike up a fuller conversation with him to begin with, given how she was curious about how weird he was in person.

!Igor

!Caroline and Justine

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Antagonists (Needs Work)]]

!Suguru Kamoshida

The volleyball coach of Shujin, also a notorious bully and sexual predator.

* AdaptationalVillainy: Downplayed; it's not so much it's worse than canon, so much as the fact that what he does is rape is more clear.
* EntitledBastard: [[spoiler: He makes it clear in his boss fight he makes it clear that he thinks his victims ''want'' the sexual attention of someone as famous as him.]]
* HateSink: As in canon, as in the fic. Nobody who knows him at all well is comfortable with him, and people quickly turn on him once they realize how twisted he is.
* JerkJock: He hides in well in the real world, but his Shadow shows him to be a petty, vicious bully who respects only athletic skill, and even then he usually doesn't show it to anyone with it.
* NeverMyFault: [[spoiler:His Shadow makes it clear he thinks his darker traits are the fault of people looking down on him or idolizing him to the point of stress.]]
* IHaveYouNowMyPretty: He's like this with ''any'' female under his power.
* SerialRapist: Made explicit here.

!Principal Kobayakawa
The principal of Shujin, who is more concerned with having good PR than the wellbeing of his students.

* AdaptationalVillainy: [[spoiler:He resorts to straight-up blackmail to Makoto to get her to work for him.]]
* {{Blackmail}}: [[spoiler:Threatens to expose Makoto and Haru's relationship if he doesn't see results figuring out who the Phantom Theives are.]]
* FatBastard: Built like a potato, and is slightly less empathetic.

!Natsuhiko Nakanohara

!Ichiryusai Madarame
A famous artist and art teacher-with a hidden talent for plagiarizing his students.

* AdaptationalVillainy: Downplayed. [[spoiler:He's directly involved in Kaneshiro's human trafficking business, but he's not happy about it. Played straight for his Shadow, though-as the embodiment of his more selfish emotions, he taunts Yusuke about it and makes fun of his autism.]]
* DirtyCoward: [[spoiler:He knows what he's doing is wrong, but is easily cowed into compliance by Kaneshiro, knowing full well that if it comes down to Madarame vs. Kaneshiro's victims, Madarame will always chose Madarame.]]
* IgnoredEpiphany: [[spoiler:He fully gets what kind of monstrous system he's attached himself to after Kaneshiro sends him a threatening letter, but choses to keep on being a loyal money launderer and trafficker for Kaneshiro rather than stick his head out too far.]]
* PunchClockVillain: Of the "played straight for horror" variant. [[spoiler:He knows he's a part of a very amoral criminal conspiracy with a rather disgusting source of funding in the form of HateSink human trafficker Junya Kaneshiro, but he keeps on holding a torch for them to avoid endangering his livelihood.]]
