!!Angelise "Ange" Ikaruga Misurugi

[[caption-width-right:266:Fallen Princess of the Misurugi Empire]]
->''"My name is Ange. I will survive. Kill and survive."''

The main protagonist of the series. A princess of the Misurugi Empire, she's exiled to Arzenal upon learning that she's a Norma on her 16th birthday. Pilot of the AW-[=CBX007=] Villkiss, although her first deployment had her piloting a stock AW-[=CBR115=] Glaive that was more of a machine for new recruits.
----
[[foldercontrol]]

[[folder:A -- D]]
* TheAce: Ange was supposed to inherit TheEmpire instead of her older brother, is shown to be "above average in all areas" in training, and is also noted to be one of the [[AcePilot best pilots of Arzenal]], as her performance at Arzenal shows. She's also noted to be able to pilot Villkiss skillfully, and, for awhile, also solos DRAGON squadrons while dodging UnfriendlyFire from teammates who want to kill her for inadvertently killing two recruits and Zola. It also means that she hoards all of the kills, causing others to go into PerpetualPoverty as their income is based on the number and type of [=DRAGONs=] the person kills. As revealed in "Resonating Front Lines", she is also skilled in different types of sports and capable of driving a ''professional race car''.
* AdrenalineMakeover: After the events of "Villkiss Awakens". It's quite hard to believe that the Angelise of "The Fallen Imperial Princess" and the Ange of later episodes are the same person.
* AggressiveNegotiations: And not of the passive-aggressive sort, but rather of the "Do as I say, or I'll kill you here and now!" way.
* AggressiveSubmissive: Despite being usually the assertive one and initiating the act. She lets Tusk take the lead in their love scene.
* AgitatedItemStomping: In "Ange Loss", when she finds the bra Hilda used to sabotage Villkiss that resulted in her stranding on the island.
* AlmightyJanitor: She's just a member of Salia's squad. She still kills more [=DRAGONs=] than anyone else (though she also indulges in a lot of kill stealing).
* AlmostKiss: She tries to kiss Tusk, but gets stopped by flying helicopters [[spoiler:getting themselves in a friendly fire thanks to the DRAGON Ange had to tussle with in a malfunctioning Villkiss in the previous episode, influencing them]].
* AntiHero: Ange starts out as a ClassicalAntihero before becoming a PragmaticHero. She has enormous trust issues from the lies about her true nature and attempts on her life, and what she has needed to do since being sent to Arzenal. Slides back up towards KnightInSourArmor after forging an alliance with [[spoiler:the [=DRAGONs=]]]. She knows that doing the right thing is fraught with uncertainty, but persists. She never becomes too merciful or idealistic though: she tears the [[EvilEmpire Misurugi Empire]] residents a new one for demanding her protection by force, and later decides that the chaos in the former Mana World is not her problem and they can adapt or die.
* ArentYouGoingToRavishMe: Their second night after arriving in [[spoiler:the DRAGON Earth]], she, Tusk, and Vivian seek shelter from a snowstorm in an abandoned hotel. Ange and Tusk wind up sharing a room together and to her surprise and frustration, Tusk doesn't try to make a move on her.
* ArsonMurderAndJaywalking: She's ready to ditch Hilda out of the blue for [[BananaInTheTailpipe sabotaging Villkiss]] in "Lonely Mutiny", constantly harassing her with her friends, and because Perolina smelled awful. [[NotMeThisTime Hilda knew nothing about that last one.]]
* AsskickingLeadsToLeadership: By the time Hilda transfers command to Ange towards the end of the series, Ange is a very capable fighter.
* AttemptedRape: She's a victim of this twice, thanks to Zola [[spoiler:and Embryo]]. Fortunately for her, both attempts get interrupted.
* AwfulTruth: She experiences one that is kept from kept from almost everyone, [[LockedOutOfTheLoop herself included]]: she's part of the race she's been brought up to believe is less than human, and as a result, is sent to a PenalColony to be used as CannonFodder against interdimensional dragons.
%%* BackToBackBadasses: With Momoka in episodes 9 and 10.
* BadassNormal: She raided an army who can use magic with nothing but fighting skill and guns. She won.
* BattleCouple: At the end of ''Cross Ange'' [[spoiler:she and Tusk deal the killing blows to the Hysterica and [[BigBad Embryo]]'s main body, respectively.]]
* BeautyIsNeverTarnished: All the scars she got from Sylvia whipping her are gone by the next episode.
* BerserkerRage: She has gone into one on two occasions when killing [=DRAGONS=].
* {{BFG}}: During the failed invasion of Misurugi to rescue Aura, Villkiss's assault rifle runs out of ammo and Salamandinay gives Ange Enryugo's beam canon which serves as Villkiss's primary weapon for the rest of the series.
* {{BFS}}: Red Assault Mode Villkiss gives the sword a huge beam of light that is long enough to cleave ships with just one swing.
* BigDamnHeroes: During the gravity DRAGON incident, she was the last to arrive and managed to save the First Troop from doom. Although it still involved Salia ordering her to follow her orders else she's dead. [[spoiler:Also does this later when the dragons attack Arzenal, and helps Sala stop the dimensional fusion from Embryo in "Resonating Front Lines".]]
* TheBigDamnKiss:
** She kisses Tusk in, appropriately enough, "Ange and Tusk", where they pick up from their earlier AlmostKiss after Tusk confesses his feelings for her. They likely would have gone all the way if [[spoiler:they weren't {{interrupted|Intimacy}} by Salamandinay's soldiers]].
** [[spoiler:She also has one with Hilda in "Distorted World". After Hilda confesses her feelings to Ange, she starts angsting about Ange being in a relationship with Tusk and how both of them being women [[{{Gayngst}} makes it weird]], and Ange reassures her by pushing her against the wall and kissing her.]]
* BigSisterInstinct: She will do anything to protect her little sister Sylvia. [[spoiler:It ends up biting her in the ass when Sylvia betrays her.]]
** In addition, when Embryo attacks the [=DRAGONs=]' village, Ange, knowing Vivian is at her home with her mother, flies to her young friend's rescue. The two may not be related, but Ange cares for her well-being a great deal.
* BisexualLoveTriangle: She comes to be part of one with good-natured and earnest male Tusk as the {{Betty|AndVeronica}} and hard-nosed and haughty female Hilda as the [[BettyAndVeronica Veronica]]. [[spoiler:The ending strongly implies she chooses to have them both as lovers permanently.]]
* BitchSlap:
** She slaps Zola during the latter's AttemptedRape on her, but it doesn't work.
** She slaps Tusk to wake him up in "Goodbye From the Gallows".
** She also slaps Jill in "Distorted World". That and her RousingSpeech enables Jill to come back and pilot Ersha's Ragna-mail.
* BladeLock: She engages with this a few times with the Enryugo in "Dragon Song".
* BlamedForBeingRailroaded: A non video game example. Salamandinay calls out Ange for killing dragons. The thing is, Ange and the rest of the norma were forced into killing dragons by the World of Mana. Embryo even uses the term "railroading" when discussing the matter.
* BlasphemousBoast: In "Distorted World", during her RousingSpeech, she says "We can beat anybody, even ''God''." Referring to [[BigBad Embryo]], who is the {{god|IsEvil}} of their world.
* BleedEmAndWeep: She breaks down moments after her first DRAGON kill.
* BottomlessMagazines: Even after Salia uses up a lot of bullets while she was piloting Villkiss, Ange is never seen to reload the weapon and still had quite a bit when she engaged Sala. Subverted in "Dark Angel of Destruction" where she did run out of bullets, forcing Sala to toss her beam rifle to Ange.
* BreakingTheFourthWall: She often does this in the Next Episode previews.
* BrickJoke: In the beginning of ''Dragon Song'', after finding out that both her and Hilda have been in the cell for a week, Ange wishes she could just get some water to refresh herself. When she finally gets a hold of Villkiss, Ange had to make it run in the water to start it up. She acknowledges that getting some water on her skin was refreshing.
* BrokenBird: The first ten episodes alone caused her to become incredibly cold and distant, having been lied to, used, or betrayed by nearly everyone.
* BrokenPedestal: A sympathetic example occurs by the end of "The Fallen Imperial Princess." Everybody turns on her after she is outed as a norma, including [[FairWeatherFriend her Iaria teammates]], out of pure prejudice. One could say the mana-using society is now one for her as a result of her public lynching.
* BroodingBoyGentleGirl: {{Inverted|Trope}} example. She is the brooding to Tusk's gentle.
* BrutalHonesty: While she won't win too many points for congeniality, you can count on her to keep it real.
* BystanderSyndrome: Completely justified in her case. When she is approached by the now mana-less band of citizens in "Distorted World" demanding for help, being a princess, she refuses to oblige, fully remembering how they treated her following her outing as a norma. They respond by accusing her of the mana disappearing, and one tries killing her, only for her to score a BoomHeadshot on him first, [[ScrewThisImOuttaHere scaring the rest away]]. Finally, she [[spoiler:scares Sylvia into walking on her own feet before leaving]].
* CainAndAbel: The Abel to Julio's Cain.
* TheCaptain: [[spoiler:Hilda relinquishes command to Ange during the final episodes.]]
* CaptainCrash: She might be one of the best pilots of the show, but she's crashed Villkiss a lot of times.
* CaptainObvious: Though it's more about her being a smartass towards the situation.
* CartwrightCurse: This is zig-zagged a bit. Her mother died protecting her in "The Fallen Imperial Princess". Then in her disastrous first deployment, she got her captain and two of her comrades killed. On at least a couple occasions since, her teammates joked that anyone who gets close to her dies. Defied afterwards so far in that there have been no subsequent casualties with her around; she saw to it. She constantly lampshades this trope in the previews.
* CharacterDevelopment: Went from shell-shocked and sheltered princess to hardened and emotionally distant prison colony resident with a desire to destroy the world that discarded her shockingly fast.
* CharacterWitness: She has one in Momoka, who has been devoted to her ever since she treated one of her wounds when they were children.
* ChekhovsGun: [[spoiler:That passionate kiss with Tusk turns out to be very important for Ange to break free against Embryo's brainwashing.]]
%%* ChildhoodFriends: With Momoka.
* TheChosenOne: Villkiss chose her over Jill and Salia, much to the latter's frustration.
* ClingyJealousGirl: She's not one bit happy at Tusk's sudden popularity among the females [[spoiler:in the [=DRAGONs=]' Earth]].
* CloseCallHaircut: During the finale of "Conclusive Ocean", from dodging a charging hook from Jill's [[ArtificialLimbs metal right arm]].
* ColorCodedForYourConvenience: As revealed in "Arzenal Burns", Michael-Mode Villkiss is an offensive based Villkiss that changes the dominant color to red, while Ariel-Mode Villkiss, which turns blue, can teleport just like a [[Anime/MartianSuccessorNadesico Boson Jump]].
* CombatPragmatist: Ange does not fight fair and will use any tools necessary to win. Then again, considering [[CrapsackWorld the rest of the world won't play fair either]], it's out of necessity.
* ConflictingLoyalty: By "Conclusive Ocean", she has to choose between following Jill and her RoaringRampageOfRevenge against Embryo, or [[spoiler:side with the DRAGON race to free the Norma]]. Upon realizing how far Jill is willing to go to kill Embryo, she decides to help [[spoiler:the [=DRAGONs=] unite with the Norma on the Aurora]] and kill him.
* CoolBigSis: She was a kind-hearted sister toward Sylvia [[spoiler:until the latter turned on her]]. Later, not only does Ange comfort Vivian when she finds out that [[spoiler:she's a DRAGON]], but seeing as she was initially more friendly to Ange than any other Norma, she also expresses delight when Vivian is reunited with her mother.
* CorruptedCharacterCopy: A {{downplayed|Trope}} example. She and [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamSeed Cagalli Yula Attha]] are blond-haired, [[{{Tsundere}} violent]] {{Tomboy Princesses}} who are skilled mech pilots and eventually realise that they're on the wrong side of a war. Additionally, the episode in which Ange first meets Tusk is a nigh-carbon copy of the one where Cagalli first meets Athrun. The difference is that Ange is [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold a lot ruder]] than [[NiceGirl Cagalli]] and far, ''far'' [[BrokenBird more bitter]]. Specifically, she's what Cagalli would have become if she were stripped of her status and put through hell.
* CosmicPlaything: Considering how nonchalantly Embryo, her siblings, Jill and the DRAGON race (with the exception of [[PetTheDog Sala]]) play around with her fate, it's rather surprising that she still has some sort of self-worth (or perhaps it is ''because'' of all this).
* CrazyEnoughToWork: When she hears Sala singing, instead of Ange just running away to dodge the attack, she ''sings'' the song "El Ragna" despite the fact that there should be no reason to. In fact, she had no idea singing it would [[spoiler:unlock Villkiss's GoldenSuperMode]] with the exception that both songs have similar lyrics.
* CrucifiedHeroShot: The fixed second opening has Ange in this pose, along with BoundAndGagged. Played for {{Fanservice}} like [[{{Ecchi}} everything else]].
* CurbStompBattle:
** During her first battle with the [=DRAGONs=], she kills most of them by herself.
** In "Arzenal Burns", she curb-stomps Salia and destroys Julio's fleet.
** Towards the end of "Conclusive Ocean", she kicks Jill down before fleeing to meet up with Sala.
** During the final episodes of ''Cross Ange'', she obliterates [[spoiler:Embryo's fleet]] and alongside with Tusk, they eventually [[spoiler:destroy Embryo and Hysterica, respectively,]] in the GrandFinale.
* DangerousDeserter: Right before combat, Ange attempts to flee back to TheEmpire with her paramail and Salia threatens to execute her if she doesn't turn around. She ends up getting Zola and her comrades killed because of her attempted desertion.
* DangerousSixteenthBirthday: On the day where she was supposed to participate in the politics in the Misurugi empire, she finds out that she's a Norma all along. Her brother Julio reveals that secret to the public and exiles her to Arzenal.
* DeadpanSnarker: A third of the comedy is from her snarking at somebody or at the situation.
* DeathGlare: She gave these to her would-be executioners who are very terrified of her despite being handcuffed. She also gives one to Julio when she was ready to kill him.
* DefectorFromDecadence: When she has the chance to re-integrate with the Mana, twice, the first being when her brother makes a sheepish plea bargain, she has already seen the evils of her former society, and refuses it.
* DefiantCaptive: She becomes one to Embryo, to the point where she breaks his mind control. [[spoiler:Played more straight in "God's Soul-Searching" where Ange manages to break out of her MindRape, telling Embryo to suck it. Embryo just responds with, well more brainwashing.]]
* DefiantToTheEnd:
** She becomes defiant to the point she sings her mother's song after spotting the ring in Julio's possession and is about to be executed in "Goodbye From the Gallows".
** In the second half of "Conclusive Ocean", when Jill threatens Ange to follow her latest plan to kill Embryo and sacrifice the dragons or Momoka dies, Ange spits at her and bolts after defeating her.
** Embryo's behavior ''really'' got Ange under her skin from the get-go to the point that she resists his brainwashing attempts. By the conclusion of "Beyond Time", [[spoiler:she destroys his mecha for good]].
* DefrostingIceQueen: Ange has come to fully appreciate her friends at Arzenal, who she once looked down on for being Norma, for accepting her in spite of being a Norma by contrast to her former friends. Momoka and Misty were the only two who didn't turn on her.
* {{Determinator}}: To say Ange isn't somebody who gives up easily would be an understatement. Death threats will make her DefiantToTheEnd to the point where [[spoiler:Embryo has finally had enough of her getting in his way]].
* DetrimentalDetermination: Her determination can sometimes work against her. A prime example of this is in "Salia's Gloom" when she goes out to fight a giant DRAGON despite being ''sick'' and once she's there [[IWorkAlone tries to fight it alone as usual]], which would have gotten her killed had she not decided to obey Salia for once. This is especially strange when you consider that her stated goal is survival, meaning you would think she'd try and take better care of herself.
* DeusAngstMachina: She puts up with a lot of crap, and the number of people who have never wanted her dead can be counted on a single hand. Suffice it to say her rage is well earned.
* DidYouJustFlipOffCthulhu: She evidently doesn't give a damn over whether not [[spoiler:Embryo]] knows about love and how he can control her. Ange kills him anyway.
* DispenseWithThePleasantries: No, Misty, Ange doesn't want to hear all that small talk praising that you are doing.
* TheDogBitesBack:
** After being exposed by Julio as a Norma, later nearly getting executed by him and being the target along with the rest of Arzenal for capture or extermination, Ange has finally had enough and decimates his fleet, threatens him to stop the massacre right away, and is still a moment away from killing him out of disgust before Embryo intervenes and does the deed himself.
** Also, in a more minor example, she gives Hilda what for during the earlier escape from Arzenal for her attempts to kill her earlier by sabotaging Villkiss and unfriendly fire, nearly ditching her as payback, until Hilda catches up and explains she did everything to survive long enough to escape and reunite with her mother.
** After Jill gives her a harsh rectal examination, lies to her on multiple counts, continuously tries using her, beating her at least a couple times, and threatening to throw her maid and best friend out of the airlock if she doesn't follow her unsound plan, Ange finally gives her a much deserved KO at the end of "Conclusive Ocean".
** Towards the end of "Distorted World", after Sylvia blames Ange for her being in an incapacitated state, Ange [[spoiler:violently forces Sylvia to walk since her injuries were completely healed]].
* DressHitsFloor: [[spoiler:Was forced to strip naked while under Embryo's mind control.]]
* DrivenToSuicide: After witnessing the dragons, this is what her mindset is until she finally starts fearing for her life when the dragon almost kills her. [[spoiler:And does it again in "Necessary" when she sees that the gun on Salia's uniform has bullets and points it to her head, about to pull the trigger when she's stopped by Tusk's words in their final meeting.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:E -- L]]
* EarnYourHappyEnding: [[spoiler:After all the crap she goes through, in the end she gets to live happily with Tusk and the rest of her surviving comrades, and decides to establish a new country in the original Arzenal island with the [=DRAGONs=] help]].
* EasilyCondemned: After Zola, Miranda and Coco are killed in Ange's first DRAGON battle, Ange is held responsible due to the fact that she tried to desert by returning to her home. While it ''is'' true she tried to desert, that's to be expected when you force a former princess into combat before she's had time to adjust to her new reality. And yet nobody seems to blame Jill and Zola for doing exactly that, thereby causing serious friction in the squad that lasts until the end of "Salia's Gloom".
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: In her first scene, Angelise rallies her sports team together during a close match and rescues a teammate from an accidental fall even though it costs her the game.
* EtTuBrute: She was shocked when [[spoiler:her beloved little sister]] turned against her and tried to stab her with a dagger.
* EvenTheGirlsWantHer: She attracts blushing worship from her teammates in "The Fallen Imperial Princess", then Coco ...and Zola's less-than-welcome attentions in the following episodes. [[spoiler:Also, Hilda falls for her later on.]] Suffice to say that everyone wants her.
* EveryoneHasStandards: Ange may be an AntiHero, but she draws the line with Jill's orders to the point of refusing to use [[spoiler:the [=DRAGONs=]]] as potential sacrifices in Jill's plot in "Conclusive Ocean".
* TheExile: Ange is exiled to Arzenal once Julio exposes her as a Norma on her DangerousSixteenthBirthday.
* ExplainExplainOhCrap: When Sala asks her where did Ange think {{Mana}} came from, Ange starts explaining till she has a sudden revelation that Mana [[spoiler:came from the mother DRAGON Aura]].
* FallenPrincess: As a former princess of the [[EvilEmpire Misurugi Empire]], the trope's name is alluded to in the first episode's title.
* FantasticRacism: She starts out discriminating against Norma like everyone else. After learning of her Norma heritage, Ange distrusts the Mana users.
* FatalFlaw:
** Her stubbornness and trust issues make her unable to see when she's in over her head. A prime example is in "Salia's Gloom" when she tries to fight a new type of DRAGON alone. ''While sick''. At Salia's request, Ange follows her orders for once and lives to fight another day.
** One of her other flaws is frequently running her mouth, which gets her slapped on more than one occasion. This is perhaps best shown when she starts going on about how she considers Libertas to be a joke... only to discover that [[InsultFriendlyFire she just insulted Tusk's parents, who]] ''[[InsultFriendlyFire died]]'' [[InsultFriendlyFire for the very mission she just called "pathetic"]]. To her credit, she at least feels guilty enough about this to apologise later (which, for [[TheUnapologetic her]], is a big deal).
* FirstKiss
** [[ForcefulKiss Her first kiss was forced onto her by Zola]], when [[AttemptedRape the latter attempted to rape Ange]]. Suffice to say, Ange herself was not happy about it.
** She did manage to get a proper, more consensual first kiss with Tusk, making him her first kiss with a man.
* FireForgedFriends: With Hilda when they escape in "Bikini Escape" and then with Salamandinay after they work together to save the DRAGON capital from Embryo's dimensional merge plan.
* ForcefulKiss: She was on the receiving end from Zola, and gave one to Rosalie. However, this is because she's forcefully feeding the spiked laxative water that Rosalie switched out to her water bottle.
* FormerlyFriendlyFamily: Ange loved both her siblings until her older brother Julio outed her as a Norma, was responsible for her parents being killed, her sent to Arzenal and attempting to have her killed first by baiting her back, with her sister and then ordering a massacre of all the Norma; her sister Sylvia also turns on her, hating her for being a Norma and holding her responsible for her mother's death.
* FreudianThreat: Tusk accidentally stumbling on her into sexually suggestive positions became such a RunningGag that, by the time [[spoiler:they come back from Earth]], she makes overt threats to his manhood. Like chomping on a penis-shaped mushroom at the top of a meat stick.
* FromDressToDressing: Back in the day, she bandaged Momoka's bleeding arm by ripping off her dress.
* FullNameUltimatum: She calls out Jill by her real name after denouncing how wrong her methods are in "Conclusive Ocean".
* TheGoldenRule: She's a firm believer in this trope. Treat her badly, and she will inflict her wrath, or in the case of the [[DirtyCoward masses in the finale of "Distorted World"]], leave you to your fate.
* GoldenSuperMode: While it has been shown in the opening, [[spoiler:"Dragon Song" marks the first time Ange uses it and the trigger is singing her mother's song]].
* GoodIsNotNice: She does soften up, but she still would prefer to be distant from others.
* GoodIsNotSoft: Jill accuses her of going soft when she refuses to follow her vicious methods in "Conclusive Ocean". Ange proves her dead wrong with a knockout at the end of the episode.
* GreatEscape: Improvised in "Bikini Escape" in response to Sylvia's distress call.
* HadToComeToPrisonToBeACrook: Before prison, she was a well-composed, dignified princess. Afterwards, she is asocial, pragmatic, willing and needing to do anything to survive. Just ask Misty.
* HairAntennae: She has really short ones though.
* HatedHometown: By the second half of the series, Ange utterly ''despises'' her own family's empire. It's not hard to see why, given their prejudice towards the Norma and how they try to kill her upon her return.
* HaveYouComeToGloat: She asks Misty this question when the latter visits Arzenal.
* HeroWithBadPublicity: Julio set her up as public enemy number one to run unopposed as TheEmperor, and she becomes hated by the Mana people for being a Norma.
* HeroesPreferSwords: A subverted example. Her Villkiss is equipped with one, but being an anti-hero Ange hardly uses it aside from her first DRAGON kill and in the opening. [[spoiler:She does start using it when she fights Sala.]]
* HeroicSelfDeprecation: She may be brutally honest, but she won't spare herself, acknowledging [[TheseHandsHaveKilled the blood on her hands]] or her own self-contradictions.
* TheHeroine: She's the main protagonist and the title character, and the series explores her journey to find the truth about the world she lives in.
%%* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Momoka.
* HiddenWeapons: [[spoiler:She kills Embryo with two knives from underneath her dress. Too bad DeathIsCheap for Embryo.]]
* HowTheMightyHaveFallen: Though initially the Princess of Misurugi and considered royalty to her people, she's eventually exposed as a norma and sent to Arzenal to fight the [=DRAGONs=].
* HumansAreTheRealMonsters: If you go by the common belief that the mana-users are the only true humans, this is what Ange arrives at by "Goodbye From the Gallows".
* HumblePie: She's forced to come to terms with being a Norma in the first few episodes. Unlike other examples of the trope, it also coincides with her hardening as a character due to the circumstances.
* IDidWhatIHadToDo: She's willing to bend or break the rules in order to help free the Norma.
* IHatePastMe: She admits her disgust with her former self in "Goodbye From the Gallows".
* IllKillYou: She threatens Salia to get out of her way during the second half of "Arzenal Burns" before she heads off to take on the mana fleet.
* IKnowMaddenKombat: Her first time experiencing a Para-mail makes her think she's playing Iaria, a lacrosse game, only with hover boards instead.
* ILied:
** She said this to Hilda after agreeing to team up with her to escape Arzenal, before ordering Momoka to slam the cargo door and leave her behind as payback for the earlier attempts on her life. Only Momoka flaking on that order, and Hilda revealing her reason for wanting to escape, convinced her to change her mind.
** While she didn't say it, she clearly lied to Julio that she wouldn't kill him if he called off the massacre that was happening at Arzenal. (It would have worked for the best anyhow; Julio secretly intended to continue the massacre later on.) The only thing that stopped her from dealing the fatal blow was [[spoiler:Embryo killing him for his failures]].
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: Her first DRAGON kill.
* ImportantHaircut: At the end of "Villkiss Awakens" where she accepts her fate as a Norma and loses the last of her innocence. Her hair gradually starts to grow back as she regains some of her idealism.
* IncorruptiblePurePureness: As [[spoiler:Embryo]] found out the hard way, [[spoiler:a MindRape isn't enough to stop her RebelliousSpirit]].
* IndyPloy: Ange never plans for anything she does while in the middle of a battle. It still works in her favor regardless.
* TheIngenue: Zig-zagged. She is quite talented and capable of leadership, but for obvious reasons, naive to the workings of Arzenal. (She is at least curious about the Norma gene issue in "The Fallen Imperial Princess", which seems quite prescient given that most mana users lack free thought.) She does a 180 in the first few episodes alone.
* InnocentBigot: At the beginning of the series. She may be prejudiced towards the Norma, but sees it as a genetic issue that she wishes to investigate once she is baptized, and her view is no different from everyone else in the World of Mana, including Misty.
* IntergenerationalFriendship: Namely from ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsX''. The first is [[Anime/MashinHeroWataruSeries Wataru]], who ends up striking a meaningful friendship with Ange. He even becomes Ange's MoralityPet. Ange says more than once that she just can't say no to him. Ange's interactions with Wataru play a role in making her character more benevolent and reasonable. The other is [[Anime/CodeGeass Lelouch]], who acts like a CoolBigBro to Ange, having gone through similar tragedies as her. He acts like a mentor to her, giving her lessons and advice so she doesn't repeat his mistakes. The positive influence the two have on her is so significant, [[spoiler:that when she finds Sylvia walking on her own, she offers her a hand to restore order to Misurugi and establish Cafe Ange in her old home]].
* InterruptedIntimacy: With Tusk, only for [[spoiler:Sala's members to crash into the building revealing that they were responding to their distress call.]]
* ItIsBeyondSaving: She does a fairly swift 180 from the beginning of the series by "Goodbye From the Gallows". After realizing she had been betrayed by her brother Julio and the mindless hate of the masses towards Norma including herself, all the while she's forced to fight to serve them, she wishes to see the World of Mana destroyed.
* ItsPersonal: Her deal with Julio when, in "Goodbye From the Gallows", she realizes he was responsible for everything that happened to her and her parents. Later escalates with the massacre at Arzenal to the point where she comes to finish him.
* IWorkAlone: This is her attitude when Salia calls her out in the episode "Salia's Gloom". According to Mei, she thinks that [[spoiler:Ange's trying to not let anyone get killed after her first deployment ended poorly.]]
* JackOfAllStats: Ange is claimed to be above average in all areas, and proves to be quite well rounded indeed. While Salia, for instance, may be a better long distance shot, Ange easily curb stomps her in "The Tuner of Time" hand to hand. In a ''dress''.
* JadeColoredGlasses: Despite her cynicism from mid-series onward, she still has people she values and wishes to settle down peacefully once Libertas is successful.
* JerkassHasAPoint: When Salia calls out Ange on her [[IWorkAlone refusal to work with others]], Ange points out that Hilda, [[ThoseTwoGirls Rosalie and Chris]] have repeatedly tried to sabotage her, something [[BystanderSyndrome Salia is well-aware of but hasn't done a thing to stop]]. In other words, all four of them have given Ange solid reasons as to why she shouldn't trust them, let alone try to work with them. To her credit, Salia gets the message, and later tells the others to stop sabotaging Ange.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: She's cold and aloof, but she will protect anyone when the chips are down.
* KickingAssInAllHerFinery: Wearing her old dress in "The Tuner of Time" doesn't keep her from kicking ass.
* KillSteal: She's very notable in doing this as shown in "Lonely Mutiny" when Hilda goes for the kill, Ange steals it right from her.
* [[SirSwearsalot Lady Swears-a-Lot]]: Especially in the English dub.
* LeeroyJenkins: Ange may be skilled at combat, but restraint sure ain't one of her strong suits.
* LethalChef: Ange somehow managed to make an exploding soup.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: She's left completely in the dark about being a Norma, only for it to come to light at the worst possible moment. Her life goes from lap of luxury to living hell in a heartbeat.
* LoveInterest: To both Tusk and Hilda. However, she chooses Tusk, and they even had [[TheirFirstTime their virginities lost all by themselves]].
* LuredIntoATrap: [[spoiler:Her intended rescue of her sister turns out to be a setup.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:M -- R]]
* MaddenIntoMisanthropy:
** Ange's gone from optimistic, friendly princess to a cynical and insouciant survivor. And it's not even for a lack of trying in her hometown; she tried the diplomatic approach with Akiho when sneaking back to the mainland, only for the latter to snitch on her. After nearly getting executed for being a Norma, she really [[TheReasonYouSuckSpeech lets her former people have it]] for their savagery, and later leaves them to [[ScrewThisImOuttaHere fend for themselves]] when Embryo [[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness severs the mana network]] and begins the world's destruction when they still act hostile towards her after demanding her protection, even though they disowned her in the first place.
** This is averted in ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsV''. By the time things go to hell with her, she's already interacted with so many non-Mana user humans that her MisanthropeSupreme personality never comes to light. She still will never forgive or forget everything the Mana users did to her, but knows that there's no point in continuing her discrimination now that the distinction between them and Norma have disappeared.
* MadeOfIron: Some of the things this woman has experienced should have wrecked her body. She broke her commander's metallic arm while the latter was conducting a cavity search, survived drowning and a snake bite, got up after being smacked by a Schooner-class DRAGON which clearly was at least almost twice her height, was forced to pull a cart filled with tombstones despite being injured and made worse by Hilda kicking her shoulder, kept dealing with friendly fire and DRAGON attack at the same time which resulted in a lot of repairs for Villkiss, was grazed in her left shoulder from a surprise attack from her sister, tortured and almost near death's door with her hanged at the gallows yet still kicked ass like nothing was wrong with her, got her ass whooped by Jill and all she got was a slight minor inconvenience after she woke up, free-fall from the sky with no parachute, and start up Villkiss submerged underwater and the only comment she has is that it felt refreshing.
* MakeItLookLikeAStruggle: Evidently with Misty, who seemed to be willing to cooperate in Ange's escape in "Bikini Escape". Done again with Salia in "God's Soul-Searching".
* TheManTheyCouldntHang: After Julio captures her, he attempts to execute her. But even though it's a long-drop gallows, she survives the initial drop and is able to speed off with Tusk like nothing happened.
* MarryThemAll: [[spoiler:She appears to conclude the series having started concurrent relationships with both Tusk and Hilda.]]
* MeaningfulName: Her given name combines "Ange" and "Elise", the former meaning "Angel/God's messenger" and the latter meaning "God's promise" in French and Latin. Becomes doubly {{ironic|Name}} in light of her defiance against [[PhysicalGod Embryo]].
* MementoMacGuffin: The ring given to her by her mother synchronizes with her Ragna-Mail Villkiss.
* MidSeasonUpgrade: By the time of "Arzenal Burns" she learns to unlock Villkiss's alternate forms, allowing access to previously unknown powers, and later replaces its assault rifle with Enryugo's beam cannon.
* MilitaryMaverick: She becomes well-known amongst the Norma at Arzenal for disregarding orders and can still bring out positive results.
* MistakenForMurderer: Sylvia mistakes Ange for killing their parents and Julio. Sylvia realizes the truth after Liza's WhamLine at the end of the series.
* MiseryPoker: With Hilda while in containment over who had it the worst over their failed reunions.
* MoralMyopia: [[spoiler: When confronting Embryo, Ange lists killing her brother as one of her reasons to oppose him... even though her brother was a genocidal monster whom ''she'' would have killed had he not intervened.]]
* MsFanservice: She's the biggest providers of these, but definitely not the only one.
* MyCountryTisOfTheeThatISting: She hates the world of mana for turning on her and the rest of her ilk.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: [[spoiler:Once she realizes that the [=DRAGONs=] were originally humans and the fact that she personally killed a DRAGON with her own hands, Ange breaks down and [[GoryDiscretionShot vomits]].]]
* NiceToTheWaiter: She is one to Momoka, who she has valued as a close friend since childhood.
* NoGoodDeedGoesUnpunished: She saves Akiho from a midair fall during the game of Iaria at the cost of victory. Guess who snitches on her in "Traitorous Homeland"?
* NoSell: She casually avoids all the bullying attempts made by Rosalie and Chris.
* NoSenseOfDirection: It becomes a RunningGag for her in the HighSchoolAU spin-off.
* NonchalantDodge: When Rosaline "[[MakeItLookLikeAnAccident accidentally]]" throws her food on Ange, Ange just barely sidesteps while the food hits the person in front of Ange.
* NotInThisForYourRevolution: She refuses to be part of Jill's Libertas, instead preferring to find where the truth lies for herself, and not be used as an UnwittingPawn. [[spoiler:The script is soon flipped. It is revealed Jill is more intent on killing Embryo than freeing the Norma.]]
* NotMeThisTime: Sylvia believes that Ange killed Julio [[spoiler:but Liza points out to her that Embryo is Julio's real killer]].
* NotSoInvincibleAfterAll: [[TurnsRed Michael Mode]] Villkiss can shrug through any ballistic weaponry very easily and can smash through ships as if it were rice paper. However, shoot a powerful enough beam weapon on it and it goes down very easily as Ange and Momoka find out the hard way when the energy reserves went all the way down to zero from shielding the impact, crashing Villkiss to a river.
* OfficialCouple: With Tusk, before they fight and kill Embryo, they finally have sex and declare their love for each other and reach their own paradise.
* OnceKilledAManWithANoodleImplement: Okay well she didn't really kill them (though admittedly she could have) but she did knock out three people while wearing nothing but a bikini and the head of the Perolina costume. The third one got knocked out from her ''sheer presence alone''. [[spoiler:And then there's the thing she did against Salia, Irma, and Tanya with nothing more ''than a pen''.]]
* OppositesAttract: With Tusk, something she [[LampshadeHanging lampshades]] at least twice.
-->'''Ange:''' Hey Tusk, thank you for everything. You always have the right answer. Plus, you're so levelheaded and gentle too. I trust you. \
''[later]'' \
'''Ange:''' We're so different. I'm too quick to get upset, I can be stubborn, I freak out a lot.
* OneWomanArmy: In "Momoka Has Arrived!", she solos a squadron of dragons and get all the cash. Too bad it was all done off screen. In the preview of "Traitorous Homeland", [[spoiler:she and Momoka become a two-man army with Momoka driving an Iaria board while Ange firing, guns ablazing. ''On foot'']]. In "Arzenal Burns", she nearly solos a fleet and would have completed it if Embryo hadn't secured the last kill himself.
* TheParanoiac: One of her defining traits. As a result of being used and manipulated by just about everyone, Ange believes anything she doesn't agree with to be a deception and outright states that she only trusts what she can see. A prime example is in episode 14, when she refuses to believe that she and Tusk have been transported 500 years into the future and tries to find evidence of deceit despite Tusk's doubts. Ultimately, she turns out to be RightForTheWrongReasons, but Tusk is correct that no-one would go through that much trouble for a set-up.
* PayEvilUntoEvil: She often throws bad people under the bus if they've caused harm to her.
** She obliterates Julio's fleet in "Arzenal Burns" for everything he did to her and ordering the genocide of the Norma.
** In "Distorted World", she gives a BoomHeadshot to the Misurugi citizen who is about to kill her for refusing [[DirtyCoward his demands for her to help everyone]] after they turned on her for her Norma status and violently forces [[HeadInTheSandManagement her immature sister Sylvia]] to grow up quickly.
* ThePenIsMightier: She {{curb stomp|Battle}}s [[spoiler:Salia, Irma, and Tanya with nothing more than a pen by poking Salia with it, distracting her enough that Ange can grab the gun quickly, shoot Irma's gun, and kick Tanya in the stomach. And lastly, judo throw Salia when the latter charges at her.]]
* PervertRevengeMode: Though there are ones that Tusk did deserve to be beaten up for because he just couldn't keep his mouth shut.
* PinPullingTeeth: She does this in both episodes 9 and 10. Her teeth really must be so strong to pull those.
* PlotArmor: As the protagonist, she always has this active. In fact, if she didn't have it, she would have been dead so many times. From the failed first sortie, Villkiss's sabotage, the gallows and the crash landing in "The Survivors".
* {{Polyamory}}: [[spoiler: In a surprising turn, by the end of the series, Ange has a loving boyfriend in Tusk and an equally loving (if a bit clingy) girlfriend in Hilda, whom she kissed as soon as Hilda thought she had no chance to be with her anymore.]]
* PostSupportRegret: Ange is initially eager to prove herself as the Misurugi Empire's imperial princess, and wants to dedicate herself to upholding its prosperity. Eventually, Ange comes to see realize her people show nothing but disdain and cruelty for her being a norma, [[EasilyCondemned despite her initial status]]. [[spoiler: And their near-lynching certainly doesn't win her over.]] By the time it gets to ''that'' point, Ange is disgusted to realize that her former subjects are "ignorant, ugly, hateful pigs", and wonders why she should bother protecting them if they ultimately reward the Norma with persecution.
* ThePowerOfLove: [[spoiler: When Embryo attempted to control Ange to submit to him, remembering the kiss she and Tusk had together helped bring her back into self-control. Whenever Embryo tries to break Ange to rape her, all she can think of is Tusk, helping her resist Embryo. Her love for Tusk is stronger than Embryo’s mind control.]]
* ThePowerOfTrust: After being lied to about being a Norma, being outed on the worst possible day, shipped off to society's PenalColony to be hazed and possibly killed, and ultimately betrayed by her sister and her old friends, Ange takes huge stock in whatever little trust she has left to give. Little wonder the ones she trusts the most are her closest allies, chiefly Momoka and Tusk, and Sala and Hilda, who she needs a little time (or shared circumstance) to warm up to. Jill, who considers her subordinates as {{Unwitting Pawn}}s, not so much.
* PreAssKickingOneLiner: She utters one to Salia as part of her speech when she's about to go on her RoaringRampageOfRevenge on Julio, to the point that she threatens her to get of her way or be killed.
* PreMortemOneLiner:
** She says "You don't deserve the air you breathe, ''you insect!''" to Julio in "Arzenal Burns" shortly before Embryo intervenes.
** And in "Beyond Time", she yells "You wanna screw with me again? ''Give it a few thousand years!''" to [[spoiler:Embryo]] before she blasts Hysterica.
* PrepareToDie: She is ready to kill her brother as payback in "Arzenal Burns", until [[BadGuysDoTheDirtyWork Embryo intervenes and does the deed]].
* AProtagonistShallLeadThem: After Hilda hands leadership of Libertas over to her in "Distorted World".
* ProtectorBehindBars: When her sister sends out a distress call at the end of "Salia's Gloom".
* QuitYourWhining: Ange does this twice in "Distorted World": first to Jill for not confronting her past simply because she is no longer commander, and later to Sylvia for trying to avoid responsibility and never trying to walk after her legs had long since healed.
* RammingAlwaysWorks: After finding out that the red light protects her and the machine, her first use of it is to ram at ships in Flight Mode.
* RankUp: One of [[spoiler:Hilda's]] last acts before the FinalBattle is to [[spoiler:promote Ange to Commander-in-Chief]].
* RapeAsDrama: Upon arriving at Arzenal, she's subjected to a humiliating cavity search by Jill, who is clearly enjoying it a bit too much, then sexually assaulted by her unit CO Zola right before her first mission.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: She doesn't hesitate to call out anyone for their cruel actions:
** During the escape from Arzenal, Ange tells Hilda she doesn't trust her after she sabotaged Villkiss, tormented her, and tried to have her killed via UnfriendlyFire as she attempts to ditch her as payback. She changes her mind after Hilda reveals she got on Zola's good side to survive, and wanted to reunite with her mom.
** [[spoiler: Ange gives one to herself after witnessing the true nature of the "Peaceful and Just" people of Misurugi. She goes as far as calling herself a "dumbass" for all of talk of "friendship and bonds" she did as Angelise. She also thanks Julio for revealing her as a Norma so she wouldn't be like them anymore, and [[HumansAreTheRealMonsters Sylvia for showing her the dark side in the humans and calls the crowd disgusting beasts]] right before she leaves.]]
** And towards the end of "Beyond Time", she does this to Embryo after she once again rejects him to the point of [[spoiler:destroying Hysterica]].
* RebelliousSpirit: Don't ''ever'' expect Ange to do what she is told. She will [[ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight ignore orders]], question authority, [[TakeAThirdOption take third options]], break out any hostages you've taken, and [[DefiantToTheEnd defy you until the very end]]. In fact, characters who get along with her best, like Tusk, Hilda and Sala, are universally the ones who let her wild nature run riot and accept her "as is". And this is what Embryo seems to be utterly [[EvilCannotComprehendGood incapable of understanding]] in "[[Recap/CrossAngeEp25BeyondTime Beyond Time]]": [[spoiler:the more he imposes himself onto Ange, the stronger her will to resist him becomes]]. She also reflects on this as a [[spoiler:common thread between all Norma and their ability and willingness to reject Embryo and his will and vision]].
* RedEyesTakeWarning: She has pink eyes and it's a bad idea to screw with her. Just ask Julio and [[spoiler:Embryo]]
* RedIsHeroic: It turns out that Villkiss is the red Ragna-mail.
* RedOniBlueOni: This is played straight with her being the Blue to Hilda's Red, and the Red to Jill's Blue. [[spoiler:When she meets Sala however, she's the red towards Sala's blue. This is played around with; while Ange is wearing blue, Sala is wearing red. Where Villkiss's eyes and the beam that she fired in her GoldenSuperMode are red, Sala's Para-mail's eyes and the beam that she fired are blue.]]
* RefusalOfTheCall: Downplayed. Ange, in theory, very much agrees with Libertas. She just doesn't want to be Jill's pawn.
* {{Reincarnation}}: As revealed in "Dragon Song", Ange and Sala have [[spoiler:met each other in different timelines where they were either enemies, best friends, or sometimes had a ReincarnationRomance.]]
* ReligiousAndMythologicalThemeNaming: The three different {{Super Mode}}s of Villkiss are named after the [[CelestialParagonsAndArchangels archangels]]. The red one is Michael, the blue one is Ariel, and the GoldenSuperMode is Uriel. And it's hinted in the opening that there's also a fourth mode. Although it's called [[OddNameOut The Primitive]] as this is merely the original version of Villkiss, matching up with the colors of the other Ragna-mails.
* RescueReversal: Sure Tusk did save her, but Ange knocked kicked him so hard since he did his usual gag. In turn, Ange and Momoka had to do the rest of the work and get them out of the execution grounds.
* RichesToRags: After the first episode, she goes from a princess to a mere soldier who is forced to fight the [=DRAGONs=] on Arzenal.
* RoaringRampageOfRescue: She comes to her sister's rescue packing some major heat as of "Traitorous Homeland".
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: There's almost nothing keeping Ange from pursuing her revenge against Julio in "Arzenal Burns". That is, except for [[BadGuysDoTheDirtyWork Embryo interceding on her behalf and killing Julio]].
* RousingSpeech: She delivers one towards the Aurora crew [[spoiler:when Hilda relinquishes her command to Ange.]]
* RunningGag: She cannot for the life of her pronounce Salamandinay's full name, calling the latter Sala-"insert word here" several times. Gets RunningGagged at the end of "Resonating Front Lines", where she settles for just calling her "Sala".
[[/folder]]
[[folder:S -- Z]]
* SaveThisPersonSaveTheWorld: Tusk and Hilda both go through hell and high water either concerned for her safety or protecting her, not just because of their feelings for her, but also knowing full well she's the one thing holding their side together against Embryo and the Diamond Rose Knights.
* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight: She defies Jill's orders by proxy to go into the sub in order to stop the massacre in "Arzenal Burns". In "Conclusive Ocean", [[spoiler:Jill threatens her by killing Momoka if she doesn't comply with her orders to use the dragons as decoys. Ange refuses, rescues Momoka and fights her, Jill's orders be damned.]]
* ScrewYouElves: She does not take kindly to Sala's preaching regarding her race being peaceful and Ange's world being barbaric, considering Sala led the partial destruction of Arzenal and made no apologies.
* SeanConneryIsAboutToShootYou: In the opening, she always points her handgun at the audience.
* SeeYouInHell:
** In "The Right Arm's Past", she yells "Drop dead, you evil bitch!" [[spoiler:to Jill after realizing she has been killing [=DRAGONs=] all along]].
** In "Conclusive Ocean", she says "Go to hell!" [[spoiler:when Jill attempts to force her to accept the latter's mission of killing Embryo]].
** In "God's Soul-Searching", Ange tells Embryo "You bastard! Drop dead!" [[spoiler:when she snaps out of Embryo's brainwashing]].
** At the end of "Beyond Time", Ange screams "Burn in hell!" [[spoiler:as she begins to obliterate Hysterica for good]].
* SevenIsNana: Oh boy, where to ''start''. Her Villkiss has a seven, her baseball match against Sala has her wearing a jersey number 7, she had a hole in one shot in golf in hole 7, the race car she used has the number 7, [[YouAreNumberSix her Norma designation number]] is #1203-'''77''', and she's voiced by Creator/NanaMizuki in Japanese.
* ShamefulStrip: Ange has her princess clothes stripped off by Jill for a physical exam just before she is sent off to Arzenal.
* ShamelessFanserviceGirl: In "Lonely Mutiny", Emma asks Ange how she can walk around the base nearly-naked due to ClothingDamage. She responds that she doesn't get embarrassed if a bug sees her naked. It's a sign that she's StoppedCaring, and doesn't intend to treat either Mana-users ''or'' Normas as human beings.
* ShamingTheMob: When the people of Misurugi forcibly demand her, as a princess, to help find them refuge from the collapsing world, especially after having long since turned on her for being a norma, she humilirates them with a BoomHeadshot and says ''"I don't give a damn. So, who's next?"'' Cue a ScrewThisImOuttaHere from the Misurugi citizens.
* SheKnowsTooMuch: She earns Salia's deathly wrath for walking in on her while cosplaying as a magical girl. That Ange herself is indifferent makes no difference, as Salia attempts to kill her for finding out her secret. Good thing Ange can defend herself. (She does get sick from the resulting hot spring skirmish.)
* ShelteredAristocrat: She's kept in the dark about what Norma really are. When she does and also that she learns she is one, does it ever hit her hard...
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: She finds love and passion in Tusk, who is by far the nicest guy in the series.
* SkilledButNaive: Ange is very skilled at almost anything, but almost has no knowledge of how things work. Heck, she didn't even know ''how to change clothes''.
* SoleSurvivor: By the end of the series, [[spoiler:Ange is one of the two remaining Misurugi family members, the other being Sylvia]].
* SpitefulSpit: Ange spits in Jill's face while being threatened by the latter in the second half of "Conclusive Ocean".
* StrangerInAFamiliarLand: When she returns to the Misurugi Empire on her rescue mission. Only that she knew full well she wouldn't be welcome. She only didn't expect [[BurnTheWitch how unwelcome she would be]].
* StatingTheSimpleSolution: She's fond of proposing very simple ideas. Runway blocked by debris and a lot of enemies shooting at them? Blow it all up with Villkiss or any Para-mail weapon. Dimensional distortion destroying the city? Cancel it out by firing two [[WaveMotionGun Spacetime Convergence Cannons]]. Want {{L|aResistance}}ibertus to succeed? Join up with [[spoiler:the [=DRAGONs=] since it's a win-win situation.]] Unfortunately for her, the last one is met with resistance.
* StoppedCaring: A while at Arzenal, and the hostile treatment the people from her former home nation have taken the social graces out of her. Given how much she's been lied to and the cruelty her former people are capable of, it's no surprise.
* SugarAndIcePersonality: By the time of "Lonely Mutiny", she develops this personality.
* SuperRobot: Turns out that Vilkiss and Ragna-mails in general are these as the cast find out after Ange unlocks the know-how. Vilkiss in particular is capable of self-repair, is capable of teleporting to its user from any distance, can conjure a barrier that is capable of protecting the machine and its pilot from ballistic weaponry and can pull out a {{BFS}} LaserBlade, and that's not getting into the Spacetime Convergence Cannon which can rip apart space, time, and dimensions.
* SwordAndGun: Although in Villkiss's case, it's sword on right hand and machine gun on the left hand.
* SympathyForTheDevil: She seems to bear a degree of pity for Julio in spite of everything he did.
* TakeAThirdOption: Her choices near the mid-season fork: Remain an Arzenal/Embryo lackey, or join Jill in Libertas and revolt against him... but be subordinate to her unscrupulous misuse and methods. She ends up with another by joining the dragons, but being subordinate to them, something that doesn't jive with her after being lied to too many times, not to mention the fact that they don't trust her returning to her world at first. Luckily, she convinces Sala and everyone else after she helps save them from Embryo's time-space convergence, and manages to forge an alliance between them and her fellow allies in her own world against their mutual nemesis.
* TalkToTheFist: All too often, in fact, it seems to have become her preferred way of communicating with anybody outside her TrueCompanions. Embryo has been killed at least thrice this way. She also punches Salia after being fed up with hearing how much [[YouTalkTooMuch the latter loves Embryo]] in "The Tuner of Time".
* TeleportSpam: In the exhibition of what Villkiss can do in the opening, the blue poeer mode of Villkiss, Ariel Mode, is capable of doing such things, though it is not used in the anime. This becomes one of its attacks in ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWars''.
* ThatWomanIsDead: Ange tells Momoka that she would prefer to be referred to as "Ange" rather than her birth name "Angelise". Momoka still calls her by her name and title regardless.
* TheirFirstTime: [[spoiler:Her first sexual experience is with Tusk, in Episode 22.]]
* TheseHandsHaveKilled: [[spoiler:When she learns the secret about the [[=DRAGONs=]] she's been killing.]] Discussed in general in "Ange and Tusk".
* TheyDiedBecauseOfYou: Ange is on the receiving end after her first deployment for the deaths of Miranda, Coco, and Zola. Clearly took it to heart, judging from how she's prevented anyone else from dying since.
* ThisIsForEmphasisBitch: She tells Jill ''"Drop dead, you evil bitch!"'' after [[spoiler:Jill enumerates the things [[IronicEcho Ange said at the bath]].]]
* ThisMeansWar: She vows to destroy the world in its current state at the end of "Goodbye From the Gallows" after her lynching, lashing and near-execution in her old hometown. Only thing keeping her from making good on her threat at the time was once again being stuck on a remote colony and lacking the means. Softens her stance after befriending and allying with the dragons.
%%* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: The tomboy to Momoka's girly girl.
* TomboyPrincess: Tomboy former princess, but this trope was in play here in "The Fallen Imperial Princess".
* TooCleverByHalf: A variation. Ange isn't particularly arrogant or full of herself, but she does have a tendency to overestimate how much she can handle alone due to being TheAce.
* TookALevelInCynic: Forget level; it didn't take long for her to get an epic destiny here.
* TookALevelInIdealism: After allying with the dragons and resolving to free Aura, she becomes more idealistic.
* ToughLove: Towards the end of the series, [[spoiler:she shoots at her sister to scare her into walking; she had already been informed by the royal doctors that Sylvia's legs had already healed.]]
* {{Troll}}: Usually in response to Salia heckling her.
* TrueCompanions: It's hard to believe now that she used to have a close circle of friends whose friendship she valued over winning. How circumstances change things indeed. [[spoiler:Just look at "Goodbye From the Gallows" and ask her about her "friends" and her "bonds".]] In reality, the only thing that has changed is her level of trust. Anyone who does prove themselves is definitely one of these to her, and she will do anything for them. Use or betray her, and you might as well be dead to her.
%%* {{Tsundere}}: Boy, is she ever. Tusk and Sala in particular get hit with this hard.
* TurnTheOtherCheek: She forgives Liza for being part of Julio's schemes to kill her, and evidently, the dragon invasion.
* TurnsRed: In "Arzenal Burns", her Villkiss turns red after sending Salia falling into the waters. This is actually a unique power state of a Ragna-mail, called Michael Mode.
* {{Ubermensch}}: Her goal in life is to destroy the broken society she's forced to live in and rebuild it under her own code of ethics.
* TheUnapologetic: Very much so, to the point that it comes as a shock to Tusk when she ''does'' apologise for accidentally insulting his parents.
* UngratefulBitch: At the end of "Salia's Gloom", Ange has the gall to claim that Salia owes her damages, claiming that her pay wouldn't have gone down if she hadn't followed her orders, despite the fact that those orders ''saved her life.''
* UnprovokedPervertPayback: Her reactions to Tusk with his face in her junk could almost give [[Manga/LoveHina Naru Narusegawa]] a run for her money. But then, given [[RapeAsDrama what she had just been through]] since coming to Arzenal, [[JustifiedTrope can you blame the poor girl for being a little skittish]]?
* UsedToBeASweetKid: Even as a little girl, despite her high-status Ange cared deeply about other people (or mana users at least). A flashback during episode 6 showed that when they were kids, Momoka accidentally broke one of Ange's dolls and Ange was more upset that Momoka was injured and hadn't treated her cut, even ripping her dress to make a makeshift bandage and saying that both the doll and the dress could be replaced but Momoka couldn't.
* UsedToBeMoreSocial: Going from royalty to penal colony will certainly do that to anyone.
* UndyingLoyalty: Because of her trust issues, the people she trusts, of which there are very few, hold a very special place in her mind and heart, almost to the point of being a crutch. Momoka, her maid, and Tusk, her boyfriend, are joined by Hilda, her eventual girlfriend, and Sala, a FriendlyRival turned dear friend, both of whom she warmed up to after some initial suspicion or antagonism.
* UnwantedAssistance: In "Momoka Has Arrived!" towards Momoka, as she doesn't want to be reminded of her past. She changes her tune by episode's end and buys her safety, and soon becomes one of her most valued and trusted allies.
* UnwittingPawn: She almost ends up becoming Jill's pawn in her plans to kill Embryo, but eventually snaps out of it by the time of "Conclusive Ocean."
%%* VitriolicBestBuds: With Hilda, as of "Goodbye From the Gallows".
* WarriorPrincess: Well, a former princess, but definitely qualifies from "Villkiss Awakens" onward. She regularly deals not only with the [=DRAGONs=] but also with friendly fire from some of her teammates.
* TheWatson: She almost always has no idea of the situation just like the viewers.
* WaveMotionGun: Villkiss's golden Uriel Mode allows it to use its Space-Time Cannons to obliterate anything in its path.
* WeaponOfMassDestruction: Vilkiss is considered to be a machine that has destroyed ''a world''.
* WideEyedIdealist: In "The Fallen Imperial Princess", she's only worried about being perfect as a princess, to paraphrase Julio. That is, a good face to the people she sees as good. Her life, and worldview come crashing down very soon over the next several episodes.
* TheWorfEffect: She suffers this trope from Sala outside her Ragna-mail when the latter dropkicks her. Then she suffers this trope again in "Dark Angel of Destruction" [[spoiler:just to highlight the new Ragna-mails piloted by Salia, Chris, and Ersha.]]
* TheWorldIsJustAwesome: She gazes in awe over the skyline as she remarks how amazing she finds the World of Mana the night before her baptism. She very quickly changes her tune.
** By Episode 22, thanks to her newfound love for Tusk, she seems to have moved to AWorldHalfFull, saying that she likes the world as it is, no matter how incomplete or absurd it seems.
* WrestlerInAllOfUs: She puts Salia in a Sleeper Hold in "God's Soul-Searching".
* YouAreInCommandNow: In the final episodes of ''Cross Ange'', [[spoiler:Hilda gives command of the Aurora to Ange after she witnesses the latter's leadership skills]].
* YouAreNumberSix: Is assigned a number (Norma #1203-77) immediately after her arrest.
* YouAreWhatYouHate: Ange makes her dislike of Norma fairly clear early in "The Fallen Imperial Princess"... which means it's fairly hard for her to swallow the fact that she ''is'' one. She later grows out of it, and comes to loathe mana users for their prejudice.
* YouCantGoHomeAgain: After being exposed as a Norma, she is taken to Arzenal and [[spoiler:after Embryo is killed]], she says that she can't return home.
* YouShallNotPass: She holds off Embryo's three knights in order to allow Sala and the rest of the dragons to escape through the singularity after they find themselves led into a trap.
