Characters belonging to Team Kogarasumaru in ''Manga/AirGear''

'''Kogarasumaru''' is a small Storm Rider team whose members are the main protagonists of this story. They begin with a single motivation: a desire to rise to the top, crush whoever is already there, and take their place. However, as they become more and more involved in the world of A-Ts, they realize things will not be as cut-and-dried as they had thought.

They're all first-class badasses. Yes, even Onigiri. The team possesses three kings: Kazu, the Flame King, Agito, the Fang King, and Ikki, the Storm King.

[[folder:In General]]
* AlmightyJanitor: At one point they had a king with his own Regalia, a king with his own ''road'', and the named successor to a third king, and they were still in D-class.
* BloodKnight: See their BattleCry.
* BadassCrew: By the end of the series, each and every one of them has stood their ground if not prevailed against the most powerful riders the antagonists had to offer.
* BattleCry[=/=]CatchPhrase: Depending on your translation, it's either "Crush! Kill! Destroy!" or "Kill 'em dead!"
* HotBlooded: All of them, even the non-combatants.
* RagtagBunchOfMisfits: Four delinquents, one of which used to be a rival of the other three, a member of the school's track team, and an ex-cop who was used as a {{child soldier}}.
* SuperSentaiStance: It's kinda weird, resembles their emblem, and can be done with either five or seven people. It's also more often than not a VictoryPose, as they tend to do it after they've won a match.
* TrueCompanions: They shape into this during and soon after the fight with Behemoth.

-->Voiced by: Kenta Kamakari (JP - Series), Creator/NobuhikoOkamoto (JP - OVA), Creator/ChrisPatton (EN)

Itsuki Minami is the male protagonist of the series. Prior to the beginning of the series, he was established as the leader of his [[JapaneseDelinquents school's gang]], the East Side Gunz. There, he earned the nickname "Babyface", which has followed him into the A-T world. He has shown an extreme amount of talent with the Air Trek, to the point of being a genius at it. He is the founder of the team Kogarasumaru as well as its leader. He is the current Storm King of the Hurricane Road, a road of his own creation that is a fusion of the Wing and Over Roads.

Ikki is a boisterous, {{hot blooded}} young man who acts like a [[TheGadfly prick]] but has a [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold heart of solid gold]]. Despite coming across as a moron, he consistently shows himself to be a charismatic leader and a brutal fighter who, though he never takes things too far, fights with exceptional cunning and underhanded tactics. Ikki strongly believes in [[HardWorkHardlyWorks striving to achieve one's goals]] instead of taking shortcuts or letting somebody else give it to you, which brings him into direct conflict with the series' BigBad, who wants to forcefully change the world for the (in his eyes) betterment of everybody.
----
* AdaptationDyeJob: Twice over. Whereas the manga consistently depicts him as a brunette, he was given dark purple hair in the anime, and blue hair in the [=OVAs=].
* AllAccordingToPlan: He wishes. Whenever a battle that had been going poorly turns around, Ikki likes to claim that it's because everything has been going all according to plan. It rarely is.
* AllLovingHero: Despite having [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold an abrasive personality]], he will help anybody he sees in distress, and while he often resorts to [[CombatPragmatist underhanded tactics]], it is because he wants to win and he always shows mercy to a defeated enemy.
* AnimalMotifs: Crows. One even made a nest of his hair, thus his nickname.
* AntiHero: He's somewhere between a [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold Disney Anti-Hero]] and a [[PragmaticHero Pragmatic Anti-Hero]]. He's a good guy, especially to his friends, but he can be quite selfish at times, he fights dirty, and his only real motivation is to fly with his A-Ts, and while he'll stop [[BigBad someone]] from enslaving the world, he doesn't have any plans to make it a better place himself.
* BadassBoast: After his teammates are surprised he could take one of Cyclops Hammer's punches to the face.
-->''I thought that something like this might happen and had a '''skull''' implanted in my head.''
* BadassNormal: He's not a Gravity Child, yet he still took down BigBad [[spoiler:Sora.]] To add even more 'normal' points to that, he did it using regular A-Ts as well.
* BattleCouple: With Ringo.
* BeneathTheMask: He's incredibly egotistical and violent, but deep down and especially early on, he knows that there are those stronger and more skilled than he is and he has quite the inferiority complex about it.
* BloodKnight: An interesting example: he likes fighting, and his first solution to a problem is to beat it up, but he doesn't like using A-Ts, one of the two loves of his life, for battle, preferring to just use them to have fun. However, he'll still use them to fight if he must.
* BlowYouAway: As a rider of the Hurricane Road, he specializes in manipulating the air. One of his most common tricks is creating a tornado with a kick.
* BlueWithShock: Sometimes, when he's driven to comical despair over something.
* BookDumb: Oh, Dear Lord... his marks are consistently low, and he is always at risk of being held back a year.
-->'''Orihara:''' "You punks should be grateful. I mean, the questions are so easy even grade-school kids could answer them."
-->'''Ikki:''' "Yeah, but we're more stupider than grade-school kids."
* ButtMonkey: More pronounced earlier in the series, but his home life is [[HilariouslyAbusiveChildhood pretty horrible in an amusing way]].
* CharlesAtlasSuperpower: Even without A-Ts, he's monstrously strong and he can take unbelievable punishment thanks to growing up with [[BigSisterBully Mikan and Rika]] as roommates.
* ChickMagnet: Kazu even lampshades it in episode 12 of the anime. He has three official love interests and countless other members of the fairer sex find him desirable.
* ChildhoodFriend: With Ringo, Kazu and Ongiri.
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: With Ringo. The two had known each other since they were children, but Ikki remained oblivious of her feelings [[spoiler:until she confesses to him and he reciprocates]].
* ChivalrousPervert: While he's not nearly as bad as Onigiri, he's got quite the perverted streak and will often take the opportunity to grope either Rika or Ringo despite knowing [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown the consequences]]. However, he'll never try to actually put the moves on a girl who isn't already propositioning him.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: While he's not as pronounced as some examples of this trope, Ikki has given some really odd reasons for some of the decisions he's made.
* CombatPragmatist: Ikki does this a bit. An example from Chapter 309: while Nue is having a heart to heart talk with his father, Ikki takes the opportunity to slug Nue in the face.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: Often, his retarded antics are ObfuscatingStupidity, but many other times, he's genuinely being stupid. He's still a major badass, though.
* {{Delinquent}}: In the beginning of the series, he even had his own gang.
* DeniedFoodAsPunishment: He loves meat, so if he makes an idiot of himself in the few days leading up to the Noyamano household's "meat night," he doesn't get to eat.
* {{Determinator}}: Ikki has turned this into a life philosophy, believing that if you aren't ready and willing to sweat and bleed for something, it's either not worth having or you don't deserve it. Both on and off the battlefield, he shrugs off whatever is thrown at him and always bounces back from any setbacks, and even the occasional HeroicBSOD, with remarkable alacrity.
* EvenTheGuysWantHim: The guys include Akito, Aeon, and maybe Kazu.
* EvilLaugh: It's PlayedForLaughs for the most part, and he even undergoes an art-shift for it, growing shark teeth and demonic eyes.
* FashionableAsymmetry: After founding Kogarasumaru, one of the legs of his uniform is always tucked up partially.
* TheGadfly: He'll dick around with anybody from friends and family to teachers to people he just met, just for the hell of it.
* GiverOfLameNames: He really can't name operations very well. For instance, the plan to get Akito's bank book from Kaito's trailer was called "Operation City Hunter Wriggling in The Darkness."
-->'''Kazu:''' "[[LampshadeHanging What kind of lame-ass name for an operation is that]]?"
* AGodAmI: PlayedForLaughs. He regularly calls himself a god for comedic effect and acts arrogant just to be a troll.
* AGodIAmNot: In direct contrast to Sora, despite the unimaginable power he wields and his undisputed mastery over it, Ikki has no aspirations for power, and once the story ends and the upheaval has passed, he's content to just ride his A-Ts.
* GreenEyedMonster: Even though he'd never admit it, [[ObliviousToLove or even actually understand the implications of his feelings]], he subconsciously hates Kanon because the latter is in a position to be closer to Ringo than Ikki is. Ikki won't remember his name or even recognize him has a fully-fledged human being.
* GuileHero: On several occasions, he is outclassed or in over his head somehow, but he pulls through with superior planning or by bending the rules in imaginative ways. The crowning example would be in the final battle, in which, thanks to the rules they set for the match, [[spoiler:neither he nor Sora can activate their god-like regalia. Ikki's solution: tune the Storm Regalia for Ringo and put them on her because the rules say nothing about whether or not ''she'' can use them. It stops Sora from blowing them all up.]]
* HeroWithBadPublicity: Thanks to [[spoiler:Sora's promise to give everyone wings,]] the entire world starts baying for Ikki's blood when the latter challenges the former. [[spoiler:After the truth of what Sora was planning is outed to the public, this trope becomes averted, and by the end of the series, Ikki has been hailed as the Sky King.]]
* HeroicBSOD: Ikki just loses it [[spoiler:after the reveal that Sora is the BigBad and has been using him the whole time]]. He doesn't practise, he doesn't abuse his friends for no reason, and he'll talk about anything ''besides'' A-Ts. Hell, he even almost drove his bike off a cliff, not because he wanted to die, but because he didn't care about anything enough to be careful. [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness His friends actually get quite concerned about him]].
* HeroicComedicSociopath: In this series, if the situation isn't serious, Ikki will act like a selfish dick for the amusement of the reader. If things are actually serious, though, he's quite caring and selfless.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Agito and Kazu.
* HilariouslyAbusiveChildhood: We have Rika, Mikan, and even Ume to thank for this.
* HotBlooded: Very. He gets excited easily and he tends to be loud and passionate about everything he does with the exception of school.
* IdiotHero: Subverted. While he comes across as a moron, he is actually one of the more intelligent members of the cast.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He may be loud, violent, rude, and insensitive, but he really does deeply care about his friends and family.
* LargeHam: He tends to be very boisterous and energetic when saying something he thinks is important.
* LikesOlderWomen: Openly pines for the already adult Simca, and his main love interest Ringo is also older than him by some number of months even though they're in the same year.
* LoveEpiphany: Team Kogarasumaru insists that Ringo and Ikki are made for each other, but Ikki begs to differ, as his heart belongs to Simca. To settle the question Onigiri asks Ikki to close his eyes and try to visualize the face of the girl he likes. Cue two-page spread of [[spoiler:Kururu Sumeragi]]. To say Ikki is shocked would be an understatement. It's subverted later, though, when he has a...
* LoveRevelationEpiphany: [[spoiler:After Ringo confesses to him, he takes a good long look at their relationship and realizes that he's been in love with her for a very long time. After that, he takes the first feasible moment to push for a RelationshipUpgrade.]]
* MadeOfIron: He's spent much of his life getting beaten daily by Mikan and Rika, who both possess SuperStrength. As a result, he's got insane levels of endurance.
* MagneticHero: Kilik states that this is the aspect of Wind Riders that annoys him the most: they seep into peoples hearts like a gust of wind. This is after Ikki won him over.
* ManlyTears: Whenever he cries.
* MistakenForGay: Akito's open infatuation with him causes all the YaoiFangirls to jump all over the relationship.
* MrFanservice: He spends a fair amount of time shirtless, or even naked.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: Usually in conjunction with his CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass moments. He almost always reveals near the end of an arc that he already knew what was being planned, and planned accordingly.
* ObliviousToLove: Despite Ringo's feelings for him being painfully obvious to the reader (and most characters) from day one, Ikki had no idea until she finally confessed to him. He was understandably pissed with himself for unwittingly hurting her and taking her for granted for so long.
* OnlyKnownByHisNickname: Everyone calls him either "Crow," "Baby-face," or "Ikki." He's almost never called Itsuki.
* TheParagon: Because he both believes in [[HardWorkHardlyWorks obtaining what you want]] [[AvertedTrope through hard work]] and [[AllLovingHero wants to help people]], he adopts a philosophy of trying to inspire others to achieve greatness for themselves instead of just giving it to them.
* PostKissCatatonia: He freaks out every time Akito kisses him, but it's PlayedForLaughs. It's played much more seriously when he freezes up right after the first time Ringo kisses him.
* PowerCopying: He copied Thor of Sleipnir's ability to create vacuums.
* RelationshipUpgrade: [[spoiler: He and Ringo]] finally admit to each other that they're the most important people in each others' lives and seal the deal by become each others' link tuners.
* TheRival: [[spoiler:He sees himself as one to Kururu in terms of willpower.]]
* SaveTheVillain: [[spoiler:As the energy from the Sky and Storm Regailas wears off and gravity returns to normal, he passes up the chance to get rescued by helicopter to save a falling Sora despite all the crap he put Rika and him through.]]
* TheScream: He delivers four. Once after each time Akito kissed him, once when he comes home from his fight against Buccha and finds Simca waiting for him in his bed naked and when Simca falls crotch first on his face in the bathroom.
* SelfImposedChallenge: For much of the first part of the series, he wore heavy training weights, even during his fight with Behemoth and during the Devil's 33, as he saw all of those challenges as practice. Ringo eventually forces him to go IAmNotLeftHanded during their fight by cutting the weights off his body.
* ShonenHair: It's spiky and defies gravity.
* SmugSuper: Although it's mostly a front, he tends to very arrogant and boastful. It's usually played for laughs, but he's still probably the strongest character still alive in the series.
* StockShonenHero: {{Heroic Comedic Sociopath}}y aside, he's a boisterous and energetic spiky-haired young hero with an unbreakable will who is on a quest ToBeAMaster. He comes off as a moron, but he shows himself to be a charismatic leader and cunning fighter, and he can be a genius when the situation calls for it. He will go out of his way to help anyone in trouble and always shows mercy to a defeated enemy.
* TakeAThirdOption: [[spoiler:When faced with the choice of standing with Genesis against The Sleeping Forest or with The Sleeping Forest against Genesis, he gives them both the finger and tells them he'll take them both down. He ends up loosely allied with The Sleeping Forest anyway.]]
* TeenyWeenie: In the anime, it's mentioned his member is rather... lacking in potency. Agito is less-than-impressed after initially being surprised. [[HasAType Ringo says she likes it, though.]]
* ToBeAMaster: His goal is to become the Sky King. His interpretation of this goal changes over the course of the series and reflects his character development: at first, he wanted to be the biggest badass in the A-T world, but as time went on and he saw the destruction wrought in pursuit of that goal, his goal became to be the best he could be and nothing more.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Any kind of meat, which is why being DeniedFoodAsPunishment is so effective when used on him.
* TwoFirstNames: Minami is both a Japanese surname and a female Japanese given name.
* UnskilledButStrong: Not in terms of physical strength (although he is still quite strong). His riding style for most of the series is this: he has endless raw talent with A-Ts, giving his tricks high output, but his technique is often sloppy, causing him to rarely reach his true potential and bust his A-Ts much more quickly than any other character. All his practicing pays off by the final battle, though, making him quite precise and [[spoiler:able to match Sora with regular A-Ts without destroying them.]]
* WasItAllALie: While he doesn't ask this, it's clear from his internal monologue that he's thinking it when he finds out that his roommates are all Gravity Children and he realizes the gravity of them being members of The Sleeping Forest.
* WorldsBestWarrior: [[spoiler:In the end of the series, he beats Sora and becomes the Sky King.]]

[[folder:Agito, Akito, & Lind Wanijima]]

-->"''What makes some asshole born just a few years ago on a 'different level'? Don't give me that lip. I've been through shit you can't even imagine, kid.''"

-->Voiced by: Creator/KokoroKikuchi (JP - Series), Creator/RyokoShiraishi (JP - OVA), Creator/BlakeShepard (EN)

Agito, Akito, and Lind Wanijima are the three personas inhabiting the body of Kaito Wanijima's younger brother.

The youngest and dominant persona, Agito was created by Akito to cope with the mental stress created by his pacifist nature and responsibilities as Fang King. As such, his strength is derived from his desire to protect Akito. He is [[AloofAlly aloof]], [[SirSwearsALot foul-mouthed]], and [[AxCrazy violent]], but despite this, his great skill and surprising intelligence make him a valuable asset to Kogarasumaru. Eventually, he warms up to the rest of the team, and even gets involved in their antics from time to time.

Akito was the dominant personality prior to Agito's creation and his polar opposite in almost every aspect. He's timid, gentle and feminine both in behavior and appearance. Nonetheless he is even more frightening than Agito [[BewareTheNiceOnes when angered]].

Lind is the third personality that comes out when the other two are having trouble, and is far more powerful and [[AxCrazy violently proactive]] than Agito. He's ruthless, sadistic, disdainful, and has a playboy attitude towards women. [[spoiler:He is in actual fact the first Brain Charger, and a copy of Gazelle, a Gravity Child and Kaito's lover who killed herself while being hunted by the Takeuchi brothers.]]

All of the personae are King-Level Bloody Road riders.
----
* AttractiveBentGender: Chapter 97 shows us how cute they look in a wedding dress.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Where to begin? All the things that Akito was forced through actually forced him to create an AxCrazy personality just to protect himself, and [[spoiler:Lind is the personality of someone who was actually killed]].
* EyepatchOfPower: Akito and Agito have this. Which eye it covers indicates which personality is in control.
* GlassCannon: Their attack output is staggering but because of the small body they share, they're quite frail.
* LukeIAmYourFather: Akito and Agito find out in chapter 301 that [[spoiler:Kaito isn't their big brother, but their own father. Agito wasn't too happy about it either.]]
* MissingMom: [[spoiler:Akito/Agito/Lind's mother is Gazelle, who kills herself before she even gave birth to them.]]
* PrettyBoy: It is acknowledged both in and out of universe that Agito and Akito are incredibly pretty. Not handsome, pretty. At one point during the class trip to Kyoto, he's dressed up in a wedding dress and rocks it better than the actual girls in the cast.
* RazorWind: It involves using the inertial force created by rapidly accelerating and decelerating to send a kind of directed shockwave through the air.
* TheSmartGuy: The most intelligent and perceptive members of the team.
* SomeoneToRememberHimBy: [[spoiler:Akito's retroactive first appearance was at Kaito's doorstep; with a letter introducing him as the salvaged child from Gazelle's body and Kaito's son, even if his body has been 'grown' by the Dr. Minami's lab.]]
* SplitPersonality: Three of them!
* StrongFamilyResemblance: [[spoiler:They're the spitting image of their mother Gazelle.]]
* WeakButSkilled: The body they all share is quite frail, but the fangs they shoot off, which require perfect technique, are devastatingly powerful.
* YoungerThanTheyLook: [[spoiler:Chronologically, they're less than ten years old. They only look older since they were grown in Dr. Minami's lab.]]

----
* AbductionIsLove: Yayoi pulled this on him and he didn't seem to mind. In fact, her tying him up and taking him out across a lake in a rowboat is one of the first times we really see him calm down and openly show his softer side. [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness He doesn't even]] [[SirSwearsALot swear]].
* TheAce: Let's see... he's an extremely skilled rider, an expert in all things related to Air Treks, and extremely intelligent. Furthermore, thanks to his beautiful looks, he's so popular with the ladies that it freaks him out. It's stated that he is part of the 1% that the BigBad hates so much.
%%* AnimalMotifs: Sharks
* AntiHero: He began as a SociopathicHero, but eventually softened up into a PragmaticHero.
* AxCrazy: When he's first introduced, he enjoys brutally crushing his enemies. Even after his HeelFaceTurn, he's still far too willing to resort to violence.
** Let's put it this way: you know you've got a bad case of this when your own friends think you've come a long way from what you once were when you give an enemy the chance to surrender before deciding to kill them.
* BadassNormal: As he isn't a Gravity Child or a Brain Charger, he has no special powers.
* BackToBackBadasses: With Ikki when they fought Behemoth's Akira Udou and Mitsuru Bando.
* BetaCouple: With Yayoi.
* BloodKnight: Oddly enough, he's also the strategist. He'll plan out how to shred his opponents, make sure that it's likely to work, ''then'' he'll thoroughly enjoy himself while he does it.
* ChickMagnet: Well, among nurses and doctors, anyway.
* ClusterFBomb: He says "Fuck" a lot for no real reason. Seriously, the guy's got quite the mouth on him.
* DeadpanSnarker: Especially earlier in the series, his tolerance for Kogarasumaru's stupid antics was absolutely nil.
* DeclarationOfProtection: Before his character development, everything he does is to protect Akito and spare him the brutality of the Storm Rider world. Even when his social circle expands and he gets friends, protecting Akito is one of his top priorities.
* DefrostingIceKing: He started off hating Kogarasumaru and only staying because Akito liked them, but then he began to open up to them, start going out with Yayoi, and even join in on some of their shenanigans.
* {{Determinator}}: He isn't as pronounced as severe cases like Ikki or Nike, but Agito refuses to give up. In his battle with Thor, for example, he cuts his own legs in order to render his opponent's technique harmless and he keeps going.
* DrillSergeantNasty: When training the rest of Kogarasumaru for the cube battle with Behemoth as part of his general nastiness.
* EtTuBrute: Akira turning on him and siding with his girlfriend, whom Agito saw as nothing more than a ManipulativeBitch, really hit him hard.
* EvilLaugh: When he's getting his AxCrazy on.
* FailedASpotCheck: Somehow, for some reason, he cannot recognize Yayoi without her trademark ponytails. Once is bad enough, but when it happens again and again, after he's seen what she looks like with her hair down, it gets pretty ridiculous.
* HairTriggerTemper: The only one who beats him in this regard is Nike. If you do anything around Agito, if you even talk to him when you're a stranger, he'll flip out.
* HeelFaceTurn: He started off as a psychopathic hunter of A-T riders working for the cops. Then he became a psychopathic hunter of A-T riders working for Kogarasumaru (although they didn't know about his "hunts"). Eventually he managed to completely soften up.
* HellishPupils[=/=]AnimalEyes: His eyes are like those of a deranged cat.
* HeroicSelfDeprecation: It's not as obvious as Kazu's case, but he doesn't really think he's capable of protecting Akito. However, these issues are cleared up when he reclaims his place as the Fang King.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Ikki.
* HiddenDepths: At first glance, he's a sadistic and violent psycho, but deep down, everything he does is for Akito, and later his other friends, and he actually has some issues about not being good enough.
* IneffectualLoner: While he is still badass enough to hold his own by himself, there are many times when he tries to go it alone, such as during the fight with Behemoth, when he fails and only succeeds with Kogarasumaru's help. He eventually learns to play with the rest of the kids when he realized that it's more fun to beat up a bunch of opponents with your friends than it is to beat them up alone.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: While he's harsh and abrasive, it's extremely obvious that he cares for his teammates.
* LameComeback: He delivers an epic one to Thor during their fight:
-->'''Agito:''' "Who did you say was "escaping"? I was just... um... staying upwind from your stank-ass pit hair..."\
'''Audience:''' "Wow... That was weak..."\
'''Thor:''' "[[TheComicallySerious Body odour cannot travel through a vacuum.]]"\
'''Agito:''' "That just shows you how stinky your BO actually is!"\
'''Yayoi:''' "Talk about childish insults..."
* MiseryPoker: He plays a variant of this with Thor of Sleipnir. Thor laments how he and the rest of Team Sleipnir have no memories since their Brain Charger personalities were only created a few years ago, and how they had to live with having no hope and no purpose in life for years. Agito quickly tells him to shut the fuck up as the hell that he and Akito had been put through far outweighs what Sleipnir went through. It also doubles as a TheReasonYouSuckSpeech towards Thor as well as Sleipnir as a whole.
-->'''Agito:''' "What makes some asshole born just a few years ago on a "different level"? Don't give me that lip. I've been through shit you can't even imagine, kid."
* OnlySaneMan: He often fills this role -- pretty peculiar considering he's one of the more [[AxCrazy unstable]] members of the cast. Unlike the rest of the team, he doesn't have a perverted streak, he isn't impulsive, and he likes to think of himself as above their retarded antics.
* RescueRomance: With Yayoi Nakayama. She'd always been at least somewhat attracted to him, but their relationship really started picking up speed after Agito saved her from Orca.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: He tends to try to quit the team whenever Kogarasumaru is in an unfavorable position. It's not that he's a coward, [[BloodKnight quite the opposite]], in fact, but if something he isn't looking forward to comes up, he'll try to ditch them. His leaving is always played for laughs and always denied by the rest of the team. A good example is when Kogarasumaru loses to the White Wolf Clan and they all think that they'll have to wear extremely embarrassing outfits for the rest of the series.
-->'''Agito:''' "Fuck! Don't be looking like that now. How shameful. You lost, so... you have to honour your agreement. Although it was just a short time, I had fun. Don't cry. See ya."
-->'''Kogarasumaru:''' "Not again, you damn shark!"
* SecurityCling: It could be considered this when Yayoi first tunes Agito.
* ShipTease: With Yayoi Nakayama. [[RelationshipUpgrade It stopped being tease at some point]].
* SirSwearsALot: Like ''damn''.
* SlasherSmile: You're more likely to see him in a fight without his A-Ts than you are to see him without a bloodthirsty grin.
* SociopathicHero: At least at first; if anybody stood in his way, they would be sadistically crushed without a second thought. However, ThePowerOfFriendship and ThePowerOfLove manage to pull him out of this.
* TokenEvilTeammate: Even after his complete HeelFaceTurn, he's still Kogarasumaru's resident AxCrazy.
* {{Tsundere}}: Agito has his moments with his friends, but even more with [[spoiler:Yayoi Nakayama]].
* WeUsedToBeFriends: With Akira, although they manage to repair their relationship after Kogarasumaru's fight with Behemoth.
* WouldHitAGirl: He doesn't care which gender his enemy belongs to.
* {{Yandere}}: It's debatable whether or not Agito is this for Yayoi Nakayama.

* BadassAdorable: He's oh so cute, but he's also a more skilled rider than Agito.
* BreakTheCutie: In his backstory, he was forced by Kaito to murder someone. This broke him so badly he actually created Agito to handle killing for him.
* CampGay: He's obviously gay and quite flamboyant.
* HopelessSuitor: [[IncompatibleOrientation To Ikki]].
* IncompatibleOrientation: He loves Ikki, who is straight.
* NiceGuy: He feels sick just at the thought of hurting anybody, that's how nice he is.
* OutOfFocus: With Agito's CharacterDevelopment and the introduction of Lind, Akito's been pushed to the sidelines more and more.
* ShipperOnDeck: Sometimes he ships Agito and Yayoi.

* ExoticEyeDesigns: Lind has the Over-Cross Twinkle Eyes, [[spoiler:an inherent trait in Brain Chargers.]]
* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: While Agito and Akito have the same hairstyle, Lind's is quite different.

Kazu is the second in command of team [[FiveManBand Kogarasumaru]] and Ikki's best friend. By nature, he is insecure and timid, a trait that is only exasperated by the brash and overbearing personalities of some of his teammates. This introverted nature often leads others to [[TheSoCalledCoward underestimate him]], especially when they compare him to the likes of Ikki and Agito. In reality, he is hard-working and dedicated, and a competent fighter and Storm Rider.

Kazu is a Speed-type rider who rides the Apollon Road, a refined form of the Flame Road incorporating Time Tricks, which calls on his speed and agility.
----
* AllYourPowersCombined: In his fight with Nike, he uses the Flame Regalia to [[spoiler:tap into the power of several powerful riders' roads]].
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: The poor guy feels this way when comparing himself to Ikki and Agito.
* AnimalMotifs: Pegasi
* AudienceSurrogate: He's always been the most normal member of Kogarasumaru.
* BerserkerTears: He has these in his fight with Nike. Given how he watched [[spoiler:Aeon and (apparently) Onigiri die right in front of him, coupled with his already intense hatred of the Gem King, it's hardly a surprise.]]
* BrokeYourArmPunchingOutCthulhu: [[spoiler:He manages to fight Nike in the climax of the series and win.]] However, doing so almost killed him.
* BreakingTheFourthWall: He does this from time to time.
** FourthWallObserver: In the anime, he briefly questions how Ikki manages to [[ToonPhysics cartoonishly stretch his arm]] to grab his shoulder.
* ChickMagnet: He wasn't aware of it, but he had been famous on the internet since Kogarasumaru's battle with Behemoth. When he joined a cult-- [[ItMakesSenseInContext long story]]-- the girls flocked to him.
* ClassicalAntiHero: He starts out as this, being a self-deprecating failure in combat with a snarky streak, but by the end of the series he's [[TookALevelInBadass evolved]] straight into a normal Hero.
* CovertPervert: Yeah Kazu seems pretty normal right nope. While Kazu isn't as bad as Ikki, he's a pretty big pervert too.
* DeadpanSnarker: It comes with being the OnlySaneMan.
* DefeatingTheUndefeatable: Kazu was already getting some serious Badass cred from his fight with Sleipnir, but he finally proves, once and for all, that he's no longer the little bitch who needs Ikki to fight for him when he [[spoiler:takes out Nike]]. Sure, he had help, but he still stood alone for much of the battle.
* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: [[spoiler:He fights Nike in the climax of the series and actually manages to get around his Jade Road and win!]]
* ElementalRivalry: Between him and Nike. He is fire and while Nike doesn't use Ice powers, he does have a clear Ice Motif going on. In the last part of the battle, Kazu is at the breaking point of his rage and Nike is more stoic than he has been for most of the battle.
* FragileSpeedster: After he [[TookALevelInBadass takes sufficient levels in badass]]. At one point he moved faster than the eyes of two king class riders could follow, then said something along the lines of "oops, silly me, I forgot to unlock my back wheels." He wins his fight against [[spoiler:Nike]] because he took nothing worse than a few punches and kicks directly. Everything else he dodged. It's clear that if any of Nike's real attacks had hit, Kazu would have been toast.
* {{Foil}}: His is Nike. Both he and Nike have undying loyalty to a wind rider. They are both the number two of their group. But while Kazu is a FragileSpeedster, Nike is a MightyGlacier. Nike is a gravity child while Kazu is normal. Kazu had been on the losing side of almost every single fight he'd ever been in, but that only motivated him to do better. On the other hand, Nike had always been ridiculously strong and impossible to defeat, and when he realized that he had lost to Kazu, he completely lost it. And while Kazu depended on his friends and gained strength from their bonds, Nike was always alone except for a person who constantly manipulated him, making him powerful, but also extremely brittle.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: Kazu was able to see that Spitfire's trick was just an illusion when Ikki first met Spitfire. Guess which Road Kazu latter becomes the King of?
* HeroicBSOD: [[spoiler:He goes through a major one when the Flame Regalia that was given to him by Spitfire was stolen. It took a major fight with Ikki to get out of it]]
* HeroicSelfDeprecation: He has some crushing self-esteem issues. He gets over them spectacularly in his fight with Nike.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: Him and Ikki. His greatest desire is to surpass him, but until then he's happy to follow him.
* ItsPersonal: Kazu has hated Nike and wanted nothing more than to kill him after he [[spoiler:murdered Spitfire. It gets played with later: despite everything Nike has done, Kazu finds he has trouble hating Nike because of the way Sora manipulated his brother into becoming nothing more than a killing machine with no free will, and he even feels a little sorry for him. He even begs Nike to say something so unforgivable that Kazu can hate him enough to kill him, because knowing how Nike became the way he was had defanged his hatred.]]
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: By the half-way point of the series, the jerk part is more or less gone.
* KickThemWhileTheyreDown: After finding a way around Nike's Jade Armour, Kazu's attacks start to actually have a noticeable effect and Nike falls to his knees. The first thing Kazu does is hit him as many times as he can. It's justified, as Nike has a habit of faking damage, and even if he wasn't, [[{{Determinator}} he'd still get up again]] despite the damage, so it's only prudent to take the opportunity to inflict as much damage as possible.
* KillItWithFire: [[spoiler:After he takes Spitfire's place as the Flame King, he tries to kill Nike with his flames.]]
* TheLancer: His timidity provides a contrast to Ikki's {{Hot Blooded}}ness, and he constantly lives in Ikki's shadow and admits to being "a nobody" in comparison.
* LeaningOnTheFourthWall: He does this when Agito is introduced to their class, stating that there's now another character who sticks out more than he does.
* LetsGetDangerous: When push comes to shove, this timid guy will kick your ass. Even if you're [[spoiler:Nike]].
* NumberTwo: He's the second in command and actually led the Team to B status.
* ObliviousToLove: He seems entirely unaware of Emily's huge crush on him.
* OfficialCouple: [[spoiler:With Emily at the end of the manga]]
* OnlySaneMan: From time to time. He's the only character who isn't a complete pervert or a BloodKnight.
* OvershadowedByAwesome: He's actually quite competent and a skilled fighter, but even as far back as his and Ikki's days in the East Side Gunz, he was always overshadowed by Ikki.
* PlayingWithFire: He rides the Flame Road and by the time he fights Nike, [[spoiler:he's become as powerful as Spitfire was in his prime.]]
* PowerCopying: [[spoiler:The ultimate power of the flame regalia, though it only works if the rider allows Kazu to use his tricks.]]
* RelationshipUpgrade: At the end of the story, Emily managed to confess to Kazu and they become a couple.
* RescueRomance: Him and Emily have a lot in the manga. [[spoiler:See chapter 111-113.]]
%%* SecurityCling: Between him and Emily.
* TheSoCalledCoward: In most stressful situations, he's quite timid, but if anybody needs him, he ignores his fear and heads out to kick ass.
* TimeMaster: He learned the Time tricks and they are a major part of his arsenal.
* TookALevelInBadass: In the second half of the series, he decides to stop being a wimp and man the fuck up. He even manages to beat [[spoiler:[[HeroKiller Nike]] of all people]].
* UndyingLoyalty: Kazu has long since decided to follow Ikki and even though it's his dream to one day surpass his friend, he would never even consider betraying him.
* VitriolicBestBuds: He and Aeon have a bit of this going. They make fun of each other, argue with each other, and even attack each other, but Kazu was crying tears of joy when he heard [[spoiler:Aeon was still alive. For his part, Aeon admits that Kazu has great potential and he only stole the flame regalia so that Kazu's inexperience with the flame road wouldn't have nasty consequences if he used them before he was ready, and in his last moments he tuned the regalia to Kazu.]]
* WithFriendsLikeThese: He and Ikki had this dynamic in their youth. Ikki bullied Kazu so badly, it's seriously amazing they stayed friends. However, by the time of the story proper, they are more or less HeterosexualLifePartners.

Mihotoke Issa, a.k.a. Fats Buccha, is a heavily-built, tanned fighter who specializes in close combat. His elements of character design, especially the three lines on his forehead, are based off the wrestler Wrestling/AbdullahTheButcher. Before joining Kogarasumaru, he was the leader of the team Night Kings (Yaou) and savagely beat down Kazu and Onigiri. After losing to Ikki in a Hurdles match, [[DefeatMeansFriendship he becomes good friends with Ikki, Kazu, and Onigiri]] and becomes a founding member of Kogarasumaru. Big, intimidating, and surprisingly intelligent, Buccha has deep technical knowledge and analytical skills when it comes to A-Ts, but he suffers from a crippling lack of confidence.

Buccha rides his own unique road called the The Rock Road (not to be confused with the Gaia Road, which it is something of a derivative of) which emphasizes physical hand-to-hand attacks enhanced by his A-T's momentum.
----
* {{Acrofatic}}: He's a huge BigEater who can never the less jump over buildings with A-Ts.
* BigEater: He's actually a DoubleSubversion: Like most examples of that trope, he appears to be tremendously fat. ''However'', he's got only about 6% body fat; he just looks that way most of the time because [[{{Squick}} blood pools in]] [[ArtisticLicenseBiology his stomach from overeating]].
* TheBigGuy: While he's not stupid, he tends to default to the application of brute force when he gets into a fight.
* CantCatchUp: Subverted. He starts to believe this is the case because he never had the same levels of natural talent that Ikki and Agito had, but once he starts to see himself as TheLoad, he decides to work as hard as he can anyway, and eventually catches up to his friends.
* DefeatMeansFriendship: He started off as the leader of a rival A-T team but joined up with Ikki after he lost.
* EnlightenmentSuperpowers: [[spoiler:In order to use his advanced "Bump Up" techniques, he meditated excessively until he came to truly understand himself.]]
* GeniusBruiser: He's analytic and knowledgeable about A-Ts, and along with Agito, he's one of the only members of his team who thinks before he acts.
* GentleGiant: As long as you aren't going up against Kogarasumaru.
* HeelFaceTurn: See DefeatMeansFriendship.
* HeroicSelfDeprecation: He gets quite depressed when he compares himself to natural geniuses like Agito and Ikki, although he gets over this eventually.
* LightningBruiser: When he upgrades his Pump Up technique to enhance his legs, he gets an insane boost in speed. He still has the same endurance, and although his upper body is no longer being reinforced, he can still hit as hard as he used to because of the added power from his momentum.
* TheLoad: He fears becoming this, [[SelfFulfillingProphecy which is actually the reason he ends up being useless]]. Once he decides to do something about it instead of just wallowing in his uselessness, he [[TookALevelInBadass takes several levels in badass]].
* MightyGlacier: His default fighting style. He was slow when compared to people like Ringo, Kazu, and Agito, but he was so insanely tough that he could shrug off most hits.
* OnlyKnownByHisNickname: With the exception of his father, everyone calls him Buccha.
* OnlySaneMan: Especially when Ikki and Agito start showing their BloodKnight tendencies.
* ScaryBlackMan: Before his HeelFaceTurn.
* StoutStrength: He looks like an obese slob, but he's got the most raw strength on the team.
* TemporaryBulkChange: His Pump Up Technique. The fat in his stomach is actually blood pooling thanks to his overeating. When he wishes, he can transfer said blood to his muscles and gain a much more impressive build. Later in the series he leans how to do this with his legs to give him more speed. [[spoiler:After the aforementioned example where he pumped up his legs, he burned off so much energy that the bulk change has become permanent, at least until he eats it back.]]
* TrashOfTheTitans: Buccha's apartment has to be seen to be believed.
* VillainousGlutton: Before his HeelFaceTurn.
* WalkingShirtlessScene: He rarely fights with a shirt on in later volumes.
* WhatTheHellHero: He's usually the first to call Ikki out whenever he's being incredibly selfish, such as when he bet the Fang Regalia just to provoke a team into fighting them.

Onigiri is one of Ikki's childhood friends. He is 15 years old and a part of Kogarasumaru. His head looks like a riceball (Onigiri in Japanese, [[MeaningfulName hence the name]]). Onigiri is a pervert whose imagination is so potent that he can as good as see through anything if there's an attractive girl behind it. He frequently uses his powers to peer through walls into women's bathing area and through their clothes and characterized as a pig.

Onigiri rides his very own road, the Smell Road. It utilizes Onigiri's body odor to distort an opponent's senses and create illusions. It is very disgusting.
----
* AdaptationDyeJob: For some reason, he has dark red hair in the [=OVAs=], while in the manga and anime he has black hair.
* AnimalMotifs: Pigs
* TheBigGuy: While he starts off quite useless, he manages to fill a powerhouse role in the team later on. For example, his highest R.E.A.D. is 360, which is higher than the estimated R.E.A.D.s of Ikki and Ringo at the start of the final battle, though both of them likely surpassed that as the fight progressed.
* ChivalrousPervert: Yes, really! See HiddenDepths.
* ClothingDamage: Weaponized.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: He's totally incompetent at fighting with A-Ts unless it's a hot chick he's fighting. THEN he fights on the same level as Kilik and Nike.
* {{Determinator}}: When he actually gets serious about a fight, he'll fight almost to the point of death.
* EyeScream: "Eye-Socket Conquest!" [[RuleOfFunny He uses]] [[{{Squick}} his tongue.]]
* {{Gonk}}: Look at him.
* HiddenDepths: Onigiri shows that he's more than a pervert when he tells Ikki about how much he appreciates girls and women as people. He'll still admire the female body, but he'll also look deeper. It's not just hot air -- [[spoiler:he ends up with Sharome, one of the least physically developed female characters in the series]].
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He's a great guy and a loyal friend, but often his perverted exploits border on sexual harassment.
* LethalJokeCharacter: He's absolutely useless until you put him in a fight with a girl, at which point he gets as powerful as Nike.
%%* OnlyOneName
* PervertedPig: Onigiri is a noted lech who (at first) is absolutely reviled by every female character because of his perverted ways and is often likened to a pig, by friends and foe alike. However, his perversion works to his immense benefit because his depravity allows him to be the '''only''' rider of the Smell Road, a road that utilizes his sweat to cause illusions and distort enemies' ability to ride. Notably, this only works against female riders: whereas Onigiri's battle level is normal below average, against female riders his level rises to that of a King. His battle shadow is always some version of a [[https://airgear.fandom.com/wiki/Onigiri_Shadow giant decorated war hog]].
* PowerPerversionPotential: In the most literal sense -- Onigiri has incredibly powerful senses and supernatural abilities that only work on hot women. He tends to horrify any female who has to face him in an A-T battle. [[OhCrap And recently, he learned to hallucinate his opponents into hot women]].
* {{Squick}}[[invoked]]: The InUniverse opinion most people (his friends included) have of Onigiri is that he is the most disgusting thing to... ''grace''... the Earth with his presence.
* DudeWheresMyRespect: He generally gets little to no respect from anyone. It must have something to do with the fact that his R.E.A.D. is typically 36, and the fact that he's a monstrous pervert.
* UglyGuyHotWife: There's that girl from early in the series who [[ChubbyChaser likes obese men]], [[spoiler:and in the finale, he's shown to be going out with Sharome, the Princess from Genesis' aircraft carrier.]]

She eventually joins the team Kogarasumaru and acts as their back-up. Even though her Air Trek skills aren't that great, she seems to be able to summon up super strength and endurance, from taking hits from powerful Storm Riders and brushing them off easily to delivering extremely powerful kicks and wrestling moves, through her pure strength of will and "ThePowerOfLove". Two thirds of the way through the series she gets mind swapped into John Omaha's body.
----
* ActionGirl: She's not as powerful as the Noyamano sisters or other skilled riders, but she can still hold her own in most battles she takes part in.
* BadassAdorable: She's very cute, has good looks, and after Ikki's fight with Buccha, she drop-kicked Spitfire in the back of the head after Ikki realized he was trouble.
* BuxomBeautyStandard: Her ample chest is often noticed by other characters, and said to be her most notable feature, and are frequent source of MaleGaze shots.
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: Early in the manga, she had a thing for Ikki, but [[IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy but she ditched her feelings pretty quickly for Ringo's sake]]. This was not kept in the anime.
* ClingyJealousGirl: Do not hurt and/or get between her and Kazu.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: In the manga, where she has brown hair. In the anime and [=OVAs=], she has black hair.
* GroinAttack: When she, Yayoi, and Agito get kidnapped by members of Trident, she takes down more than half of them with this.
* LetsGetDangerous: She and Kazu are chased by the ''extremely'' dangerous Gabishi whom several badasses have already been powerless to stop. Kazu is absolutely powerless and soon begins to lose his courage. Aeon Clock gets his ass kicked. Things are looking grim until suddenly, Emily decides to stop cowering and hoping Kazu will protect her and she attacks Gabishi, performing a suplex on him and not letting go. Her determination to help in the fight even gives Gabishi cause to praise her, and she keeps him from moving long enough for Aeon to smash a motorbike over his head.
* MusclesAreMeaningless: She's [[SuperStrength incredibly strong]], yet has a slender body with little muscle tone.
* RescueRomance: Her crush on Kazu started when he stood up to Buccha for her sake.

* SuperStrength: She inexplicably has superhuman strength. She can hold down Gabishi, a king class rider, and at one point she broke open a watermelon by head-butting it.
* TookALevelInBadass: And how! She went from being a non-combatant to outmaneuvering Kilik, if only for a few moments.
* UnskilledButStrong: More pronounced earlier before she gets more skilled with A-Ts, but even after that, she is still the least skilled member of the team by far. On the other hand, she's probably as strong as Buccha. In the simulated battle with the old Sleeping Forest, she even dropped a statue on Kilik.
* YaoiFanGirl: In Chapter 192, Ikki is seen feeding Agito (without Agito cursing) and Emily begins to squee.

Yayoi was part of the track team with Emily and later becomes something like the team's [[CuteSportsClubManager manager]]. As such, she is Kogarasumaru's TeamMom and she looks after the rest of the team, especially when they get so focussed on training that they forget to eat or rest. [[AllGirlsWantBadBoys She has a crush on Agito]], who [[{{Jerkass}} surprisingly]] [[OddCouple has no problems with this]]. Oddly enough, she has the ability to communicate with Ikki's crow. She also has the ability to tell the exact time, down to a second -- a trait that is shared by the more affluent tuners of Tool Toul To. Ine Makigami stated that she saw potential in Yayoi as a link-tuner, even mistaking Yayoi for the team's tuner.
----
* ADayInTheLimelight: She has two: Chapter 186 and Chapter 222.
* AbductionIsLove: She kidnapped her LoveInterest Agito. It's more benevolent than most examples of the trope as she was just trying to force him to rest and both of them seemed to enjoy themselves.
* AllGirlsWantBadBoys: She likes ''Agito''.
%%* BetaCouple: With Agito.
* ClarkKenting: An accidental version: Agito can never recognize her unless her hair is tied up. A running gag for more than half the series is Yayoi greeting Agito with her hair down and him responding with "Who the fuck are you? Why are you talking to me?"
* CuteSportsClubManager: She's the one who takes care of the rest of the team when they're too busy practicing to care about things like food, water, rest, etc., she keeps track of their progress, and she even has two Kogarasumaru {{Hero Worshipper}}s as assistants.
* DeadpanSnarker: She has her moments, especially earlier in the series.
* FirstKiss: It was meant to be for Agito, but instead she kissed Lind to give him air.
* TheGenericGirl: To quote the lady herself, "I don't have huge breasts like you (read:Emily) do. I don't have notable looks. My grades are barely above average. Even on the track team, I've only ever placed once." She has [[HeroicSelfDeprecation quite the complex about it]].
* HeroicSelfDeprecation: She's surrounded by ridiculously powerful people like Ikki, Agito, Kazu, and Buccha, and even Emily is extremely attractive, has a large bust, and is a star athlete. On the other hand, Yayoi is something of a {{Ridiculously Average G|uy}}irl and feels like a pointless fifth wheel, despite the fact that without her being the TeamMom, the team would train with far less efficiency and probably severely injure themselves by overworking.
* MoralityPet: To Agito. It's possible that she's actually his MoralityChain.
* NiceGirl: A little bit of snarking aside, she's one of the nicest characters in the series.
* NeutralFemale: As far as we know, she's never even put on a pair of A-Ts in her life.
* OddCouple: NiceGirl [[AllGirlsWantBadBoys with resident]] {{Sociopathic|Hero}} {{Jerkass}}. Who'd have guessed?
* RescueRomance: With Agito. Subverted with Lind, who really couldn't give two shits about what happens to her.
* SecurityCling: She did this with both Agito and Lind.
* ShipperOnDeck: She actively ships Ikki with Ringo, and she seems to be completely supportive of Emily's pursuit of Kazu.
* ShrinkingViolet: An understated example, as she tends to have little confidence or self-esteem, and it really comes out the most around Agito.
* StalkerWithACrush: See {{Yandere}}.
* TeamMom: She takes care of the team when they're to busy training to look after themselves. Without her, they would likely drop dead from exhaustion.
* {{Yandere}}: She lacks the typical [[AxCrazy Ax Craziness]], but she did go so far as to kidnap Agito and tie him up.
