->''"The sun is setting on the New Republic. It's time for the Resistance to rise."''
-->--'''General Leia Organa'''

The Resistance is a small, secretive private military force formed by General Leia Organa in 28 ABY to monitor and check the actions of the First Order -- a rising neo-imperial galactic state -- along the borders of the New Republic's territory. Most of the New Republic politicians and military officers refuse to have anything to do with the Resistance, regarding General Organa and her soldiers as warmongers and extremists, causing Organa's cash-strapped movement to rely on credits, ships and equipment quietly funneled to it from the few senators who share her concerns.

Following the disappearance of Jedi Master Luke Skywalker when [[HappyEndingOverride his fledging Jedi Order was destroyed]], the Resistance sent many operatives across the known-universe in search of his whereabouts as they were no match for the First Order's fleet and numbers.

In 34 ABY, after years of tensions, the First Order finally declares war on the New Republic by destroying the entire Hosnian System -- which housed their current capital alongside most of their fleet and military -- using Starkiller Base, a planet-size weapon ten times bigger than the second Death Star.

In retaliation, the Resistance launches an attack on Starkiller Base and they are able to destroy it with the help of a First Order defector. However, a few days later, the Resistance is decimated in the Battle of Crait by the First Order. With only two dozen survivors aboard the ''Millennium Falcon'' and small scattered cells across the galaxy, they decide to regroup and recover their numbers to fight the First Order, who have begun taking control of the frightened and divided galaxy.

A year later, the Resistance has settled in the Outer Rim planet of Ajan Kloss, hidden from the First Order who have occupied the Mid-Rim and are on their way to occupy the Core Worlds. With little-to-no support from the Free Worlds, they rely on hit-and-run tactics and propaganda in an attempt to cause a mass uprising against the First Order.

[[folder:In General]]
* BreakOutTheMuseumPiece: The Resistance uses decades-old computers, weapons, starships and starfighters due to a lack of funds and an embargo from the New Republic government.
* CassandraTruth: Most of the New Republic didn't believe in Leia's claims about the danger the First Order represents. Until it's too late, as Starkiller Base annihilates a whole system.
* CriticalStaffingShortage: Due to their low numbers and meager funding, most of their ships are modified to be run by skeleton crews.
* {{Expy}}: Along with being essentially the neo-Rebel Alliance, they're actually not so much a political faction as they are sort of an expy of the old Expanded Universe's Rogue Squadron: a small but elite military unit of only a wing or two of starfighters that makes precision strikes to destabilize drastically larger enemy forces.
* NoMereWindmill: Their views on the Imperial Remnant were viewed as alarmist and reactionary by most of the New Republic government and military. They were correct about the First Order's intentions.
* NonIndicativeName: Despite their name, they didn't really start out as a [[LaResistance resistance movement]] -- they were a privately-funded militia from the New Republic waging an unsanctioned war against [[TheRemnant the First Order]], which itself was more of a military junta than a proper government, an ''actual'' resistance to the new status quo. Once the First Order obliterated the Republic Fleet and began their occupation, however, they became one. Meta-wise, the name is also a leftover from past versions of the script were the New Republic was decimated before the events of the ''The Force Awakens'', with Leia already leading a ''Resistance'' against the occupying-First Order.
* PerpetualPoverty: Since most of the New Republic military and political leadership is blind to the growing threat posed by the First Order, they openly refuse to finance Resistance operations. Resistance funding is dependent on Leia and a few of her friends in the Senate.
* PlausibleDeniability: The Resistance has some sympathizers in the New Republic but no official support. A few sympathetic Senators privately sent them a trickle of funds and supplies. This attempt at plausible deniability fooled no one. However, as it is common knowledge in the First Order that the Resistance is backed by the New Republic -- all the deception did was postpone an open declaration of war with the New Republic itself.
* PrivateMilitaryContractors: They are essentially Leia Organa's private army and navy.
* RenegadeSplinterFaction: While the Resistance is mostly composed of civilian volunteers, the addition of veteran officers and New Republic pilots that broke away from the New Republic military classified them as this in the eyes of the New Republic, with them setting up shop on their own when the New Republic Senate refused to do anything about the growing power of the First Order. A number of New Republic senators, however, did support them in private.
* LaResistance: While they do resist the First Order's [[VideoGame/StarWarsBattlefrontII2017 galactic assault]], they were a privately-funded militia from the New Republic rather than a conventional resistance movement. This is DoubleSubverted when the First Order blows Hosnian Prime to kingdom come and starts chasing the Resistance across the galaxy, truly fulfilling their namesake.
* TheRevolutionWillNotBeVillified: Much like the Rebel Alliance, they are heroic champions of the oppressed with no ambiguities in their heroism. However, their formation shows the failure of the New Republic as a government.
* StillWearingTheOldColors: They repurposed the old Rebel Alliance starbird as their symbol.
* SuspiciouslySmallArmy: They're absolutely tiny: with less than 1000 active members (the original Rebel Alliance had a few ten thousand members at its peak for comparison) operating out of a single airbase on a single planet, with a space fleet consisting of two wings of outdated starfighters with only two several-decade-old Mon Calamari cruisers as support. It is noted that many of their pilots pull double duty as infantry when the need arises. Their political and financial situation precludes any growth; they make do with what they have.
** By the time of ''The Last Jedi'', their main forces are made up of only 500 members, with their navy comprising of a single MC-85 cruiser alongside two frigates and one corvette. This gets whittled down even ''further'' after the battle of Crait with those 500 members reduced to ''a few dozen'' survivors who fit inside the ''Millennium Falcon''.
** By the time of ''Film/TheRiseOfSkywalker'', they have recovered but are still no match for the First Order due to having no fleet outside of a few frigates, forcing them to resort to guerrilla tactics and subterfuge.
* TokenTrio: The actors playing the new heroic human trio are composed of a white British girl, a Nigerian-British guy, and a Guatemalan-American guy, in stark contrast to the previous trios where all three were white.
* WindmillCrusader: This is how the Resistance is viewed by most of the New Republic. At the time of ''The Force Awakens'' it has been over thirty years since the end of the Galactic Civil War. The New Republic and the Imperial Remnant have been at peace for three decades. What is left of the Empire is hemmed in and crippled by punishing reparations, economic sanctions and disarmament treaties. So naturally the Resistance's claims of a resurgent Imperial military looking to reignite hostilities is met with a great deal of public skepticism. Unfortunately, most of the New Republic doesn't know about the secret Imperial colonies, manufacturing facilities, and military bases in the Unknown Regions, and the First Order is NoMereWindmill.

-->'''Leia:''' Then there's this girl from Gatalenta named Amilyn Holdo who is… let's say, a little odd.\
'''Bail Organa:''' I trust your judgement, Leia, but don't be too quick to write people off. Sometimes they can surprise you.

As a teenage member of the Apprentice Legislature under the Empire, Amilyn met Leia Organa and became involved in the rebellion. Decades later, she became a Vice Admiral of the Resistance and served as the commander of the ''Ninka''.
----
* AgeGapRomance: Her brief relationship with Lando during the Rebellion is one, with him being at least twenty years older than her.
* AloofAlly: She's definitely on the Resistance's side and has their best interests at heart, but she can come across as rather distant to her subordinates and makes little effort to endear herself to them, focusing instead on the task at hand. She is shown to have a very warm relationship with Leia, though, and they trust each other completely.
* AmbiguouslyBi: When talking to Leia about romantic partners, she doesn't mention which gender she prefers and says only dating humanoid males sounds "limiting".
* BarefootLoon: She has a penchant for going barefoot onboard spaceships, as can be seen in ''Age of Resistance Special 1'', most likely to illustrate her eccentricity.
* BeAsUnhelpfulAsPossible: She won't tell Poe anything about her plan to save the Resistance besides "We're maintaining our current speed". She does have a plan, but her vagueness lead Poe to understandably interpret her inaction as "We have no plan", leading to a lot of [[HeadbuttingHeroes conflict between them]].
* BerserkButton: {{Downplayed|trope}}. She is willing to put up with Poe's outbursts, including calling her a coward, and it's implied she was even going to let him in on her plan, but when he publicly accuses her of being a ''traitor'', she [[TranquilFury calmly]] orders security to "get this man off [her] bridge."
* BewareTheSillyOnes: Leia at first dismisses her as too bizarre to be helpful when they met as teenagers, but soon discovers Amilyn's eccentricities lend themselves to very shrewd thinking. Perhaps best seen when they have to evade an Imperial scan which would show them on a known rebel planet: while Leia is nearly caught, Amilyn comes up with a perfect lie on the spot then deliberately annoys the man into letting them pass.
* BeYourself: As a teenager she tended to overdress in as many colors as possible in an attempt to be as un-Gatalentan as possible. Leia points out that defining herself as being ''un''like a thing is still letting that thing define you, which Amilyn takes to heart, choosing her current dyed hair with matching colorful dresses.
* BoringButPractical: Her plan after evacuating D'Qar is to simply flee the First Order until they reach Crait, sneak off their capital ships, and signal for help once the First Order fleet has left, contrasted with Poe's failed plan to sneak onto the First Order mothership and disable its tracking system. Poe himself admits that the plan is actually a really damn good one when he learns of it. Too bad she didn't explain things beforehand, or at least assured the crew in any manner.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: She’s rather eccentric, with bright purple hair and clothes that look better suited to a party than a battleship, but she's can be a good strategist, if not necessarily a good leader.
* CassandraTruth: She tells a growingly desperate Poe that his plan is far too dangerous and unpredictable. Poe refuses to listen... Unfortunately, Holdo is soon proven right, as just about everything that can go wrong with his plan does.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: As a teenager, she is rather eccentric in both her behavior and dress. While learning how to climb mountains, she spends more time looking for snow owls than paying attention to the lessons.
* {{Cloudcuckoolanguage}}: She tends to speak cryptically and [[TalksLikeASimile in weird metaphors]]; Leia calls this "Holdo speak". She grows out of it mostly as an adult.
* CoolCrown: She wears a high-class tiara.
* CreepyGood: She always seems to be a little off kilter. Even when being totally genuine with Leia, she sort of acts like she'd rather not be there. Of course, her entire screen time consists of awkward or tense moments, so it might be justifiable.
* {{Cuckoosnarker}}: She seems quirky and aloof most of the time, but she has her snarky moments (see DeadpanSnarker).
* CulturalRebel: Unlike most Gatalentans, who tend to be more somber and tranquil, Amilyn is hyper and eccentric. She tells Leia that she wants to dress exactly the opposite of people from Gatalenta, who like scarlet cloaks and pale white and grey clothing, which she finds too boring. She's calmed down in her adult age, though she still doesn't quite conform to Gatalentan standards.
* DeadpanSnarker: She has a few snarky moments:
--> '''Poe:''' [[CaptainObvious With our current fuel consumption, there's a very limited amount of time we can stay out of range of those Star Destroyers]].
--> '''Holdo:''' Very kind of you to make me aware.
* DependingOnTheWriter:
** While ''Film/TheLastJedi'' depicts Holdo as a BaitAndSwitchTyrant, the novelization gives her a few more [[KickTheDog purely vindictive]] moments after she takes command, in particular a scene in which she de-authorizes Poe Dameron ''specifically'' from helping to evacuate the Resistance's medical cruiser as it's under attack, implying she prioritizes her own grudge against him over saving the sick and injured.
** The movie version of Holdo is also extremely different from her version from Claudia Gray's novel (in the words of one reviewer, the movie Holdo basically seems "like a different person"); in ''Leia, Princess of Alderaan'' she's a quirky and hyper yet smart Luna Lovegood-type, while in ''The Last Jedi'' she comes off as more aloof, strait-laced and condescending. In fairness, movie Holdo ''is'' decades older than Gray's Holdo (who is a teenager), though the differences are still notable.
* DistaffCounterpart: The teenage Holdo, as described in Claudia Gray's novel, bears some intriguing similarities to none other than Master Yoda. Both Holdo and Yoda are eccentric characters with a strong pacifistic and spiritual bent and peculiar speech patterns ([[TalksLikeASimile Holdo speaks in metaphors]], [[StrangeSyntaxSpeaker Yoda uses strange syntax]]). Both are aware of their eccentricities and deliberately use them for the purpose of ObfuscatingStupidity. Both are initially underestimated by the main character (Leia and Luke Skywalker, respectively), and eventually gain their trust and play sort of a mentor role to them (Holdo taught Leia skyfaring and some important aspects of her holistic life philosophy). None of that is present in the movie version, though.
* TheDitherer: How she comes across. Her apparent inaction results in the loss of almost the entire Resistance fleet. This is left open to interpretation, as while there was a plan to evacuate, no actual action is taken until Leia wakes up from her coma and this inaction leads Poe to enact his own plan out of desperation.
* DyingMomentOfAwesome: She single-handedly devastates the First Order's fleet and cuts Snoke's ship in half by ramming it with the ''Raddus'' at lightspeed, giving the surviving Resistance ships time to escape.
* EccentricMentor: Back in her teenage years, she taught Leia meditation and gave her some wise pieces of advice.
* FamedInStory: Her name at the very least is well-known among the Resistance given Poe's comments in ''The Last Jedi'', due to her work as a strategist. Posthumously, she's famed for the "Holdo maneuver", with which she singlehandedly destroyed a portion of the First Order fleet.
* FatalFlaw: Holdo's secretiveness and vindictive nature counts as this in ''The Last Jedi'', especially since she is supposed to be a military leader in charge. Had Holdo simply outlined her intentions, and not taken questions born from concern as a challenge to her authority, the crew would have definitely been more obedient in response.
* FireForgedFriends: Although Leia thought her strange at first and tried to avoid her, she came to like Amilyn due to her honesty and desire to do good. Their friendship was solidified when Amilyn learned of the rebellion and helped Leia expose a potential traitor and warn a rebel fleet of an Imperial attack.
* {{Foil}}:
** If only very loosely, she's one to Winter, Leia's fellow adopted sister in ''Legends''. Both are similar-aged allies and long-time friends of Leia, also having experience in the political field and being more feminine than the princess herself... and that's about as far as the similarities go. While Winter was TheStoic[=/=]StraightMan to Leia, Amilyn is a Cloudcuckoolander (to the point that Leia thought she was weird when they initially met), with also Winter being more traditional[=/=]finicky while Amilyn is a CulturalRebel. And of course, they have strange-colored hair, but Winter's was naturally white while Amilyn just likes to dye her hair.
** Within the film itself, Holdo is set against Supreme Leader Snoke. For the majority of the film, they're the ones in charge of their respective movements, and the two of them are presented as notably extravagant in their dress, with Holdo's elegant dress, hair, and tiara, and Snoke's golden robe, ring, and slippers. Their contrasts come with their portrayals. Snoke appears to be powerful and with great direction and authority, whereas Holdo's lack of assurance caused her crew to mutiny. In the end, however, it becomes clear that Snoke has little motivation beyond advancing his image, and he dies from arrogance when interpreting Kylo Ren's intentions in his favor. Holdo is explained to have been doing everything for the Resistance, with her final act devastating the First Order fleet. To cap it off, their signature colors (purple and gold/yellow) are direct complements.
* ForegoneConclusion: Anyone that's read ''Leia: Princess of Alderaan'' before viewing ''The Last Jedi'' would know that she's genuinely on the side of good, despite whatever her exterior may lead you to think.
* GeneralFailure : Zigzagged. Her plan to evacuate to an abandoned base is a sound idea yet her poor leadership has hampered its execution. She refuses to reassure the crew of her ship despite morale being at an all-time low and her refusal to disclose any plans ultimately lead to a mutiny. Even if she is right that Poe is a loose cannon for disobeying orders and challenging her authority, one has to wonder why she didn't throw him in the brig or taken any form of disciplinary action. The sole reason Poe's actions were a threat was that she was so secretive that a significant portion of the crew was convinced she had no plan whatsoever. It also didn't help that she kept on demeaning Poe in front of the entire crew, [[DisproportionateRetribution despite only being asked of her intentions by him.]]
* GenkiGirl: In her youth she had a hyperactive and quirky personality, and a habit of dying her hair often and wearing very loud clothing. As an adult, she has toned this down, though her purple hair and interactions with indicate she's still this [[DownplayedTrope to an extent]].
* GodSaveUsFromTheQueen: {{Subverted}}. Admiral Holdo, from Poe's perspective, is portrayed as a somewhat incompetent leader who doesn't understand the gravity of the situation at hand. Poe hopes that Leia will wake up from her coma and save the Resistance from Holdo's poor leadership and stages a mutiny to do so himself. However, when Leia wakes up, she sides with Holdo and stuns Poe for being insubordinate. Poe later comes to realize that Holdo was doing everything she could to save the Resistance just like him, but their miscommunication caused conflict between them.
* HeadbuttingHeroes: Runs into conflict with Poe Dameron. As a leader, Vice Admiral Holdo values caution and discretion with survival as a top priority. She disagrees with Poe's brand of flashy heroism and refers to him as a "trigger-happy flyboy".
* HeroicSacrifice: Once everyone has been evacuated, she stays aboard the ''Raddus'' to continue leading them away from the crew, knowing they would eventually catch and kill her. When the First Order learns of the evacuation ships from DJ, Holdo rams Snoke's gigantic starship at lightspeed to buy time for the Resistance remnants to shelter themselves on Crait.
* HeroOfAnotherStory: In ''Age of Resistance'', she's revealed to be [[spoiler: the commander of the ship Poe is chasing in his issue, after she stole a protocol droid's head carrying sensitive information for the Resistance]].
* HiddenDepths: Despite her regal and elegant appearance, she's described as being tough as nails. According to WordOfGod, she's also slightly Force-sensitive, which could contribute to her ethereal demeanor.
* JumpedAtTheCall: Upon learning of the rebellion she eagerly joined it, and was in fact quite relieved that she did not have to fight the Empire on her own.
* LadyOfWar: Admiral Holdo's costume is more reminiscent of a ballgown than combat fatigues, yet this does not stop her from being a high ranking official within the Resistance. She also proves to be capable of stunning mutineers and taking out almost the ''entire'' First Order fleet [[KickingAssInAllHerFinery in her fancy clothes]].
* TheLeader: She temporarily takes command of the Resistance after Leia is left in a coma. She's remarkably calm in the face of danger and seems unfazed by the highly-stressful and increasingly bleak situation the Resistance are in; she also spends much of her time coming up with and executing an escape plan that will save the most lives possible, whilst keeping it closely under wraps. She frequently clashes with Poe over her harsh attitude and inability to reassure him and the others.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop:
** {{Invoked}}. She doesn't tell anyone about her plan to save the Resistance, and indeed doesn't even inform them that she ''has'' a plan other than "run away and try not to die". In the film it isn't explained why, [[AllThereInTheManual but the novelization]] states that she did so because she has no idea how the First Order are tracking them, and believes that there could be a spy onboard.
** Poe and some of the others don't tell her about their plan to sneak aboard the ''Supremacy'' and shut down the hyperspace tracker, as Poe believes her to be incompetent and untrustworthy, saying the plan is "need to know". Had he told of the tracker earlier, her worries about a spy would have been over and she could have spoken freely about her plan.
* TheMadHatter: In the book, at first it appears that she is oblivious that she looks weird in others' eyes. However, at the very end, when she and Leia are interrogated by an Imperial Captain, she [[ObfuscatingInsanity brilliantly plays up her kooky self-image]] to dupe the Captain, implying that she's very much self-aware.
* MeanBoss: {{Invoked}} and {{Deconstructed}}. Holdo actually cares for the Resistance greatly, even being willing to [[HeroicSacrifice sacrifice herself]] to save them. However, she invokes this trope after taking command, deciding to leave most of the crew in the dark of her plans. Combined with mean-spirited words, this causes Poe and the rest of the crew to think she's a coward and a traitor, leading to Poe going behind her back to try and save the crew however he can. When she realizes this, she [[OhCrap tries to stop him]] but by then it is too late.
* MeaningfulName: With a name like ''Holdo'', it seems fitting that she would be the one to hold the line against the unstoppable First Order fleet in the doomed flagship while the other Resistance members escape.
* MistressAndServantBoy: She and Poe Dameron have a bit of this dynamic between them. She is an eccentric older woman who acts condescendingly towards her younger subordinate (with a hint of flirtatiousness, which is especially prominent when she jokingly calls him "flyboy"), and he is a young and impulsive pilot who gradually becomes annoyed that he has to obey Holdo's orders. The flirtatious subtext was more prominent in the original version of the script, but was significantly toned down in the final version.
* NervesOfSteel: All through the film, Holdo retains a calm and optimistic manner during the increasingly dire SternChase. She only [[NotSoStoic starts to crack]] when the plan goes awry and the First Order start firing on the evacuating transports; however, she still stays calm as she prepares a [[HeroicSacrifice kamikaze attack]] on the ''Supremacy'', not hesitating for a moment even though [[FaceDeathWithDignity she knows she'll die in the process]].
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: She causes PoorCommunicationKills by not only not telling Poe and the others that what her plan is, but acts as if she doesn't have a plan ''at all,'' thus leading Poe and the others to rebel against her and causing hundreds of deaths.
* NightmareFetishist: She really likes the feeling of terror, especially of the mortal variety. While the rest of the pathfinding group is sombered by the realization that their pathfinding classes are meant to teach them to face the fear of death, she's positively delighted, and when she volunteers to stay behind on the cruiser as a decoy, she looks pretty excited, until it turns out that it's not a game of cat-and-mouse anymore and that more needs to be done.
* NonconformistDyedHair: As a teenager, she dyed her hair wild colors along with deliberately picking clothes unlike her people's whites and greys to be "anti-Gatalenta as possible". Her hair was green when she first met Leia. By adulthood, she toned down her loud style a little, though she still has unconventional clothing and dyed hair (purple in her last appearance).
* NotAfraidToDie: She's not afraid of death, and when she was younger Holdo yearned for dangerous adventures to "get more comfortable with the nearness and inevitability of it". [[http://ew.com/movies/2018/03/27/laura-dern-admiral-holdo-last-jedi-force-sensitive/ This is probably related to the fact that she is Force-sensitive, and somehow able to intuitively feel "the other side" and understand that death is not the end]].
* NotHelpingYourCase: Holdo's distrust towards Poe's recklessness isn't unjustified, but her obvious scorn and choice of words in their first encounter only fanned the flames of distrust between them.
* NotSoDifferentRemark: She distances herself from the culture of her planet by wearing vibrant clothes and dyeing her hair, and states that she wants to be "as much anti-Gatalenta as possible". However, this is just the surface: deep inside she shares many cultural values of her planet, including a love for spirituality, astrology and meditation and a belief in universal harmony; her penchant for speaking in metaphors could also be related to the Gatalentan tradition of flowery poetry.
* NotSoStoic: She spends most of the film being cool and/or haughty, but when the evacuation starts to go awry, this attitude completely breaks.
* OhCrap: She has a big one when she notices the First Order firing on the evacuating transports when they shouldn't have known about the ships at all. She's practically in tears while frantically ordering the plan to continue.
* PoorCommunicationKills: Holdo [[LockedOutOfTheLoop doesn't tell Poe and several other Resistance members about her plan to evacuate them on transports]], resulting in Poe assuming she has ''no'' plan and going rogue to try and save them. [[NiceJobBreakingItHero This backfires badly]], as Poe's actions inadvertently cause the First Order to learn of the plan, nearly getting the entire Resistance wiped out. The novelization explains that Holdo was trying to keep the plan secret in case of information leaks, due to being unaware of how the First Order was tracking them, but it also caused her to neglect crew morale entirely.
* PowerDynamicsKink: In the original version of the script, her relationship with Captain Poe Dameron was going to have a shade of flirtatiousness. This is still noticeable in some scenes in the final version, especially in the episode where she condescendingly calls him "flyboy".
* ProverbialWisdom: A variation. She is very spiritual, deep into astrology and meditation, and tends to speak in peculiar metaphors. Her speech mannerisms could be partly the result of her background: her home planet's spiritual teachings are a [[FantasyCounterpartCulture Fantasy Counterpart]] of Oriental religions which are known for broad use of proverbs, {{Koan}}s and metaphors.
* RammingAlwaysWorks: She rams the ''Raddus'' at the First Order's Flagship at lightspeed slices the ''Supremacy's'' starboard side clean off.
* RegalRinglets: Her hair is quite curly, signifying her as a person of importance in the Resistance.
* RememberTheNewGuy: Her first on-screen appearance is in ''The Last Jedi'', but she's established to have been an old friend of Leia's dating back to even before the Galactic Civil War.
* ShipTease: While stuck in No-Space on a mission, she and Lando exchanged some flirtation and slept together. After returning to the fleet Holdo notes admiringly that Lando referred to himself and the Rebellion as "us", while he looks back at her fondly as she walks away, suggesting that there may be more than just a casual fling between the two.
* TheSoCalledCoward: She spends most of ''The Last Jedi'' keeping Poe and many of the Resistance members in the dark about her plan to get them off to safety once they reached Crait's vicinity, to which Poe considers to be cowardice and lack of a backup plan. It's not until after a mutiny and Leia quelling it that things get cleared up, and the evacuation proceeds as planned. When the First Order sees through their plan and easily foils it, Holdo takes [[TakingYouWithMe extreme measures]] to ensure no further Resistance casualties are inflicted on her watch.
-->'''Connix:''' She's running away!\
'''Poe:''' ...No she isn't.
* StillTheLeader: Late in ''The Last Jedi'', she orders Poe off "her" bridge, even though she's seemingly done nothing to help the Resistance besides fueling up a few transports for an evacuation, with Poe being more proactive. It's subverted, however, when it turns out she actually does have a plan to save them and was being extremely cautious about revealing details.
* TheStrategist: She is responsible for ensuring the Resistance's survival and escape from the First Order following the evacuation of D'Qar. She keeps her plan secret from the majority of the Resistance and it's only [[TheReveal fully revealed]] near the end of the film: fuel up small transports fitted with cloaking devices and evacuate everybody onto them once they're in range of Crait, a planet containing an old Rebel base that's defendable and has equipment that will allow them to contact their allies for help. Holdo, meanwhile, will remain on the main cruiser as a distraction, with the transports slipping by unnoticed. Even Poe, who had been at odds with Holdo the entire film, admits he thinks this a good plan. It very ''nearly'' works; unfortunately, DJ informs the First Order about the transports when he's captured, putting the whole operation in jeopardy. Holdo improvises by ramming the cruiser into the ''Supremacy'' at ''lightspeed'' to protect the remaining transports.
* SuicideAttack: She stays onboard her command ship once everyone else has been evacuated to Crait, and rams Snoke's starship with it at lightspeed. The result is ''devastating'' for the First Order's fleet.
* SupportingLeader: She is a supporting character in ''The Last Jedi'' who leads the Resistance when Leia is left comatose.
* TheTrickster:
** In ''Age of Resistance - Poe Dameron'', when she and Poe were on the opposite sides, and Poe was chasing her on his ship, she was not above teasing him. Namely, she called him "Flyboy" and faked communication problems to escape. However, when he followed her into the Lost Souls asteroid field, [[TricksterMentor she even gave him some flying lessons to help him survive]].
** In ''Star Wars Adventures'' #25, she asked Leia to give her a speeder driving lesson, which was just an excuse for diving into a dangerous adventure and getting into the lower levels of Coruscant.
* TheWonka: While a high-ranking officer, she is known for [[{{Cloudcuckoolander}} her eccentricity]] and [[FreakyFashionMildMind peculiar fashion taste]] (such as dyeing her hair wild colors, [[BarefootLoon frequently going barefoot]], and wearing a dress that looks like a ballroom gown onboard a military ship). Her unconventional leadership style and [[LockedOutOfTheLoop her tendency to be secretive about her plans]] results in confrontation between her and her subordinate Captain Poe Dameron, who accuses her of incompetence and even of [[spoiler:treason, and eventually starts a mutiny against her. Eventually it's revealed that Holdo had a plan all along, and [[NiceJobBreakingItHero Poe's mutiny foiled her plans]].]]
* YouAreInCommandNow: After Leia is badly wounded during the evacuation of D'Qar, Holdo temporarily takes command of the Resistance.

* FourStarBadass: Holds the rank of Admiral.
* NoodleIncident: At the time his backstory was revealed, there were no other details on a Garellian resistance movement against the Empire other than the assumption that it had to do with ''[[WesternAnimation/StarWarsRebels Rebels]]'', where Garel is prominently featured and first debuted in.
* ProperlyParanoid: In order to get vital supplies for the Resistance Statura would use smugglers and a double-blind system to ensure that there was no risk of discovery of the base on D'Qar. 259The son of legendary Rebel hero Gial Ackbar. He followed in his father's footsteps, joining Mon Cala's military and becoming an ally of the Resistance. In the aftermath of the Battle of Crait, he argued that Mon Cala's navy should aid the Resistance in the war against the First Order, eventually joining the Resistance himself after Leia Organa visited his homeworld.

* AffectionateNickname: Poe calls him "Junior".
* AlliterativeName: '''A'''ftab '''A'''ckbar.
* AmbiguouslyAbsentParent: His mother is never mentioned in any of Aftab's appearances or in other sources.
* DadsOffFightingInTheWar: He tells Leia his father only saw him about once after his spawning, because Ackbar was so busy with his duties to the Rebellion, New Republic and Resistance. Nevertheless, Aftab is clearly proud of his father and studies his military career in order to feel close to him.
* GenerationXerox: Like his father, Aftab became a military officer serving Mon Cala and fled with a massive fleet to join a rebellion after a fascist empire occupied his homeworld.
* GraveMarkingScene: He and Leia visit a shrine to his late father and Aftab leaves a shell there for him. When Leia expresses regret she couldn't retrieve Ackbar's body for a proper burial, Aftab says he believes his father's spirit resides here.
* ImprobableAge: He is only eighteen when the war breaks out between the Resistance and First Order, but still ranks high enough in the Mon Cala military to hold some sway in the court. As part of the Resistance he holds the rank of Colonel, but given their depleted ranks his rise to that level of command is more understandable.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Of Mon Cala's leadership. King Ech-Char is old and feeble, being easily swayed by Nossor Ri and Chadkol Gee into not supporting the Resistance out of fear, while Aftab argues they have a duty to fight alongside Leia against the First Order.

The daughter of a prominent New Republic politician, Korr served Leia as an aide during her last years in the New Republic Senate before joining the Resistance as a commander. Korr is dispatched by Leia to convince the New Republic Senate of the threat posed by the First Order after their attack on Jakku.
----
* AdaptationExpansion: Most of Korr's scenes were cut from the film. She gets more pagetime in the novelization of ''The Force Awakens''.
* AffectionateNickname: While serving as Leia's senatorial aide, she was referred to as Korrie by the office staff. When she quits in disgust after learning about Darth Vader being Leia's father, she angrily informs Leia that she has not gone by Korrie since she was a child and that Leia should have called her by her name instead.
* AllThereInTheManual: Her appearance in the film is looking horrified at the destruction of Hosnian Prime. Her name and reason she was there for the Resistance are established in novelization and visual dictionary.
* BrokenPedestal: She is ''not'' happy when she finds out [[SinsOfOurFathers Leia is the daughter of Darth Vader]]. However, she later realises [[RebuiltPedestal she was wrong to judge Leia over something she had no control over and becomes loyal to her again]].
* CharacterDeath: She is still on Hosnian Prime when the First Order destroys the system with the Starkiller.
* CommandingCoolness: Carries the rank of Commander in the Resistance.
* GenerationXerox: Both her parents were involved in politics; in particular, her father Sondiv Sella was a councilor in the New Republic Senate and was once a cargo pilot for the Rebel Alliance. Korr herself had a brief career in the Senate before joining the Resistance.
* ImprobableAge: She is only twenty-two years old, and holds the rank of Commander in the Resistance military. Partly {{Justified}} given the Resistance's small size and value of ability over any other considerations. Prior to this, she served as Leia's senatorial aide at the age of just sixteen.
* NaiveNewcomer: In ''Bloodline'', Korr has only recently started working in politics and is utterly dismayed by how dysfunctional the New Republic Senate is and the bad blood between the Populists and Centrists. She loses her naivety by the end of the book and joins the Resistance.
* OhCrap: She has an expression of pure horror on her face as the Starkiller beam begins to destroy Hosnian Prime.
* OutgrowingTheChildishName: Played with. When she quits working for Leia, she snaps at Leia for calling her by her childhood nickname of 'Korrie', saying she should've addressed her by her full name instead. However, prior to this she let everyone she worked with call her Korrie with no problems; it's indicated her reaction is less to do with the nickname and more to do with finding out Leia is Darth Vader's kid, which she feels quite betrayed about.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: After Leia's true parentage is exposed, Korr angrily quits as her aide, horrified at having served the daughter of Darth Vader. After a few weeks of reflection, she seeks out Leia and apologizes and offers to work for her again if needed.
* WeHardlyKnewYe: In her only scene in ''The Force Awakens'' ([[DeletedScene that made it into the theatrical release]]), she is killed by the First Order on Hosnian Prime. She gets a bit more characterisation and background in the novel ''Bloodline''.
* WhatTheHellHero: She is furious and upset with Leia for never telling her that she was Darth Vader's daughter. [[SubvertedTrope However, Leia did have good reasons not to and Korr later apologizes to Leia for her outburst.]]

** In ''The Rise of Skywalker'', she is the one tasked with telling the crew of the ''Falcon'' that Leia had died while they were gone.
* JumpedAtTheCall: Leia personally came to Warlentta to recruit D'Acy into the Resistance, and she happily accepted with her family's blessing.
* MilitaryBrat: Her father was the commander of Warlentta's military forces, and the rest of the family has a proud military history.

A human female who serves the Resistance as a medic.
----
* AdaptationExpansion: She has more dialogue and scenes in the novelization of ''The Force Awakens''.
* CoolOldLady: Exudes a sense of calm authority, which is handy for a doctor in a secret Resistance force. Chewbacca, who is normally pretty touchy about people touching him or treating his wounds, is a perfect patient for her while quietly telling the story of how he got injured, with her soothingly noting how it sounds very scary and that he must be pretty brave.
* JumpedAtTheCall: She was one of the initial members of the Resistance, having personally accepted Leia's invitation to join the founding of the organization due to her trust in the Princess and her warnings about the danger to the New Republic.
* MajorlyAwesome: A non-combat version: her official rank in the Resistance is major, and she proves to be quite awesome by not only easily treating Chewbacca's wound without him causing a fuss, but by also successfully treating Finn's lightsaber injuries, which she notes are extremely uncommon and difficult to deal with.
* TheMedic: She is the head medic at the Resistance base on D'Qar, and treats Chewbacca's blaster injury as well as Finn's lightsaber injuries from his duel against Kylo Ren.
* SecretKeeper: Keeps records of Greer Sonnel having bloodburn hidden and provides her secret treatments, since if her condition was known she would be barred from even light duty as Leia's personal pilot. 402A young human woman who works as a controller at the Resistance base on D'Qar. Her skills were quickly recognized by Leia and Connix became a key member of the Resistance's command staff, often working alongside the General.
----
* ActionGirl: Due to the Resistance's depleted numbers after the Battle of Crait, Connix begins participating in missions away from base that allow her to put her combat skills to use. This includes the final assault on Exogol as part of the ground team.
* AlliterativeName: All three of her names are this ('''K'''aydel '''Ko''' '''Co'''nnix).
* AscendedExtra: She was more or less a background character in ''The Force Awakens'', but becomes a fairly important supporting character in ''The Last Jedi'' as a member of Poe's inner circle and a participant in his mutiny. Then she becomes one of the last living Resistance members. She gets [[DemotedToExtra demoted back to extra]] again in ''The Rise of Skywalker'' though, only having a handful of scenes and no significant role in the plot.
* BearerOfBadNews: Upon witnessing the destruction of Tah'Nuhna by the First Order in an emergency message, she immediately runs off to tell Leia.
* BlatantLies: When Finn and Rose sneak off the ''Raddus'' to find a codebreaker on Cantonica, Connix covers for them, telling Holdo their ship detaching was just a bit of debris.
* BraidsOfAction: After transferring to a more combat oriented role, Kaydel wears her hair up in a braid across her head, in a style reminiscent of Leia's during the Battle of Endor.
* EasilyForgiven: She doesn't appear to receive any consequences or reprimand for her role in the mutiny in ''The Last Jedi'', though in fairness Leia knows her heart was in the right place, she was following Poe's orders and the Resistance ''really'' can't afford to be cutting off any of their membership following the Battle of Crait.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: She's blonde and one of the good guys, consistently depicted as brave, loyal and well-intentioned.
* KnowWhenToFoldEm: She is quick to surrender when Leia stuns Poe, ending the mutiny against Holdo.
* MissionControl: Her job.
* OutrunTheFireball: How she ''narrowly'' escapes the First Order's destruction of the Resistance base on D'Qar at the start of ''The Last Jedi'', escaping just ahead of an OrbitalBombardment in the last transport.
* RankUp: She was promoted to lieutenant due to her performance in the control room during the assault on Starkiller Base, and her first duty as an officer is coordinating the evacuation of D'Qar.
* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight: In ''The Last Jedi'' she is one of several Resistance members who thinks Holdo can't be trusted or relied upon; she goes behind Holdo's back to help Poe, Finn and Rose with their plan to find a codebreaker and later partakes in a full-blown mutiny against Holdo in an effort to save the Resistance.
* UndyingLoyalty: She's part of Poe's inner circle of close friends and comrades. In ''The Last Jedi'', she covers up Finn and Rose's departure for him, and later is an active participant in his mutiny, standing as the primary officer on the bridge with him while the others keep Holdo and her supporters captive.

A lead controller at the Resistance Base on D'Qar. During the Evacuation of D'Qar, Goode served as a transport pilot and operated a ski speeder during the Battle of Crait.
----
* AcePilot: Together with Cova Nell, Goode piloted one of the few transports that managed to survive the First Order's bombardment and make it to the surface of Crait, although getting advice from Poe Dameron certainly helped.
* MissionControl: Her role during the assault on Starkiller Base.
* TookALevelInBadass: Went from serving as a control room operative to flying transports and barely armed speeders against the First Order.
* UncertainDoom: She may have died in the Battle of Crait, as only the speeders piloted by Poe, C'ai, and Nien Nunb made it safely back. 452* MissionControl: His job as a controller is to help direct missions and report data to the command staff.
* ParentChildTeam: By the time of ''Film/TheRiseOfSkywalker'', his father Ibdun, who had initially disapproved of Vober joining the Resistance, had joined himself and now the two work together as part of the ground crew.

* NoodleIncident: He joined the Resistance due to a case of mistaken identity, but the exact circumstances of how that happened have yet to be revealed.
* StarfishAliens: He is a Trodatome, who are large slug-like creatures with no arms, which calls into question exactly how he performs his duties as a mechanic.
* TheUnintelligible: His language is very difficult to understand, causing a lot of communication issues and confusion with other Resistance members.

A historian specializing in the ancient occult, Kin abandoned his academic career following the destruction of Hosnian Prime to join the Resistance. Thanks to his knowledge of ancient languages he aids Rey in studying the Jedi texts and provides insight to the Resistance on the Sith cultists at the heart of Emperor Palpatine's return.
----
* AbusiveParents: His parents were at the least verbally abusive, as he mentions in one issue of ''Adventures'' that they called him useless, which is part of what inspired him to join the Resistance.
* AllThereInTheManual: His background is only provided in ''The Rise of Skywalker'''s Visual Dictionary.
* BadassBookworm: While he has a academic background, he still partakes in the ground assault in the Battle of Exegol.
* {{Omniglot}}: Speaks nine languages fluently, four of which are dead ancient languages. He does have some trouble understanding certain dialects of Shyriiwook, through that is a extremely difficult language.
* AWizardDidIt: He's most notable for throwing out a bunch of guesses about how Emperor Palpatine could have come BackFromTheDead -- "Dark science... Cloning... Secrets only the Sith knew" -- without providing any clarity about how it happened.

A spy for the Resistance. Sometime before Poe found Lor San Tekka, Vi was captured by the First Order and tortured by Captain Cardinal for information on Captain Phasma's past. Following her escape, Vi recovered from her injuries and was assigned to establish a new Resistance on Batuu following the Battle of Crait.
----
* ActionGirl: As a spy, she gets into scuffles with First Order soldiers. In ''Galaxy's Edge'', she fights a First Order officer (who apparently isn't a NonActionGuy).
%%* DeadpanSnarker
* OffscreenMomentOfAwesome: [[spoiler:We don't know exactly how she escaped her cell and impersonated a stormtrooper, just that she shows up in time to rescue Cardinal when he's being poisoned.]]
* OvertOperative: Forced into this role on Batuu, as part of her job is to recruit for the Resistance there and word gets around quickly in such a small settlement. The First Order naturally hears about this fairly quickly and sends troopers to find her and crush the base on Batuu.
* RankUp: After establishing the base on Batuu and recruiting a number of native Batuu residents into the Resistance, Vi is promoted from lieutenant to captain by Leia.
* TheSocialExpert: Since part of her job is getting stories out of people, she's very good at managing a situation so she can extract information. Even while being tortured by Cardinal, she often has the upper hand on him.
* TextileWorkIsFeminine: Vi is an action girl through and through, but she likes to pass the hours in hyperspace by knitting hats and clothing.
* TomboyishPonytail: She's depicted as having one in ''Women of the Galaxy''. She presumably cut it off by the time of ''Phasma'', or it was one of her many wigs she uses as a disguise.
* TurnTheOtherCheek: [[spoiler:Despite Cardinal torturing her, she manages to persuade him to see that the First Order isn't all he thought it was cracked up to be, and when he gets poisoned (possibly lethally), she rushes him to a proper medical facility to get him treated.]]
* WigDressAccent: As a spy, Vi keeps a number of disguises and wigs on her ship for various operations. Most of these were stolen when she crash-landed on Batuu, with only her highly noticeable black and blue wig and bright orange Resistance jacket remaining as they were what she had on during the crash.

* HornedHumanoid: He has two large horns either side of his head and two smaller horns on his chin.
* HumbleHero: He helps the Resistance because he wants them to win the war and free the Galaxy from the oppression of the First Order. When asked by Finn how he could be thanked, he just answers "Win the war!".
* RedShirt: He's a heroic extra who does espionage work for the Resistance and gets killed quickly for it.
