[[WMG:Hajime Hinata]]
!!!Super High School Level ???
Our Protagonist who can't remember what his talent is.

* AndIMustScream: Downplayed. While [[spoiler:being manipulated by Komaeda to solve the FinalDeadRoom, Hinata is unnaturally calm before briefly realizing he has no control over himself and is ''terrified'', but unable to even attempt resistance. Luckily, his free will is returned not long after]].
* DemonicPossession: A while after the Imposter's HeelFaceTurn, Hinata repeatedly gets possessed by something implied to be Komaeda.
* HearingVoices: Hinata often hears Komaeda speaking in his dreams as part of his ''Komaeda Theatres'' though he doesn't tend to remember it. Later, Komaeda talks to him even when he's awake.
* SupportingProtagonist: He may be the narrator but the story is more about Togami's choices and actions. [[spoiler: Though seeing the latter's FaceHeelTurn who knows how this will really turn out.]]
* TraumaCongaLine: Almost every time Hinata trusts someone here it goes pretty badly. Komaeda seemed like a nice guy [[spoiler: before he is found dead after trying to kill someone who was most likely Hinata himself]]. Pekoyama's a stoic but reliable friend [[spoiler: except she is also a Yakuza's hitman who tried to convince Kuzuryuu to kill Koizumi over a crime she didn't remember committing]]. Sonia's a sweet girl who wants to help keep everyone safe [[spoiler: and ''[[BewareTheNiceOnes kills]]'' Pekoyama by [[CruelAndUnusualDeath locking her in her cabin]] and [[KillItWithFire setting it on fire, burning her alive,]] and still thought the others would understand]]. Souda's a close enough friend [[spoiler: who is so unbalanced by Sonia's actions even Hinata has issues helping him until after he comes down with an illness that makes him act like a twisted version of Sonia]]. Nidai was a good supporter [[spoiler: who has been brutally murdered as a display of power]]. Nanami's always there to lend a hand or ear accordingly [[spoiler: but she's the traitor]]. But hey at least he has Togami right? [[spoiler: Not only were they never able to come clean about who they are as themselves they have become the greatest threat by far on the island]]. Hinata's life here ''sucks'' and frankly [[spoiler: considering he is Izuru he shouldn't be trusted either]].

[[WMG:Nagito Komaeda]]
!!![[BornLucky Super High School Level Good Luck]]
The first student to try getting close to Hinata and the first victim.

* AdaptationalVillainy: Since his motiveless murder attempt goes awry again in a fashion that doesn't allow him to present or defend his case ([[BlueAndOrangeMorality not that he has much]]) he comes off a lot darker this time. [[spoiler: His Komaeda theaters make this odd in that while things like the Lucky Number Codes do show he is trying to warn Hinata (or the viewer) of future events he also made a point out of mocking Kazuichi as he thought the boy was dying until Kazuichi woke up. Komaeda forcing Hinata to leave Nanami while she was injured was pretty cold and rather creepy, especially when decides to [[CuttingTheKnot just possess him]].]]
* AmbiguousSituation: Whatever is going on with Komaeda is very, very confusing. He’s dead, though he's in a simulation where characters can't actually die, and he's the only dead student to make subsequent appearances. Komaeda also has some level of presence outside of his ''Komaeda Theatres'', as he there to witness [[spoiler:Tsumiki's attempt on Souda's life]] and is able to [[spoiler:control Hinata on the Fourth Island]].
* AssholeVictim: He tried to commit a murder with very little prompting from Monokuma and no actual motive. Hard to deny he didn't deserve what he got, ''especially'' considering what he did in canon.
* BarredFromTheAfterlife: It's not certain what's going on, but according to Komaeda he cannot go to wherever Teruteru is after dying. He makes his appearances via ''Komaeda Theatres'' taking place in Hinata's dreams unlike the rest of the dead students, and [[spoiler:later even starts possessing Hinata]].
* DeadPersonConversation: Being dead doesn't stop Komaeda from talking to people, though what he does is closer to going on a monologue in someone else's dream. [[spoiler:Only in the Funhouse does he engage in actual conversation with Hinata when he tries to convince him to play Russian roulette]].
* DemonicPossession: [[spoiler:Komaeda is able to take control of Hinata either through outright possession or by subtly manipulating his thoughts and actions. He does this to break into the amusement park castle and to force Hinata to go the Final Dead Room. What's horrifying about this ability is how Komaeda is able to easily overpower Hinata when he resists]].
* VoicesAreMental: [[spoiler:While possessing Hinata, Komaeda does not speak like him and uses a soft and slow voice in contrast to Hinata's sharp and fast one. Everyone else finds this very unnerving given the situation]].
* WeHardlyKnewYe: As the first victim in a story that only covers the party, since everything prior to it is seen in the game itself, he gets the least amount of screen time by design. [[spoiler: Except he doesn't. He seems to be BarredFromTheAfterlife or something like it leaving him a "ghost" who hosts little "Komaeda Theaters" while Hinata sleeps, states he can't go to where Teruteru is, and is semi-present to Kazuichi during Mikan's attempt on the mechanic's life.]]
* WhiteHairBlackHeart: His motives appear much darker this time since they are explained post mortem. [[spoiler: His Komaeda theaters only make him more ambiguous.]]
* YouAreNotAlone: Komaeda attempts to convince [[spoiler:Hinata to play Russian roulette in the Final Dead Room, though Hinata understandably panics. He first tries forcing it before telling Hinata he doesn't want him to be killed and that it isn't his time to die. As Hinata continues to be afraid, Komaeda assures he isn't along and is right their with him. In the end, Hinata survives, possibly thanks to Komaeda's luck]].

[[WMG:Byakuya Togami]]
!!!Super High School Level Heir
The leader of the students, trying to guide everyone to avoid becoming victim to Monokuma's killing game.

* AscendedExtra: Since they have been SparedByTheAdaptation they are currently acting as out protagonist while Hinata is our narrator.
* HiddenHeartOfGold: They may try to present themselves as aloof but it is clear to most students they aren't as cold as they appear. [[spoiler: This is because they aren't the real Togami but the Super High School Level Impostor posing as him.]]
* WalkingSpoiler: They are an... odd case of this at present.

[[WMG:Ibuki Mioda]]
!!!Super High School Level Light Music Club Member
Very loud and energetic girl trying to keep things as upbeat as she can.

* AscendedExtra: She has a lot more prominence in this story than the canon one. [[spoiler: Her [[SparedByTheAdaptation surviving chapter three]] and having a more emotional character arc here also helps.]]
* ShipTease: She has quite a lot of it with Byakuya which is only increased when [[spoiler: she comes to terms with her crush on him]].

[[WMG:Chiaki Nanami]]
!!![[GamerChick Super High School Level Gamer]]
A girl who often [[{{Sleepyhead}} sleeps at odd intervals]] but is adamant about helping stop Monokuma's game.

* {{Foreshadowing}}: There is a lot of it surrounding her [[spoiler: being an AI made by Chihiro, making her the "traitor"]] such as:
** Her [[spoiler: despair fever symptoms]]
** Byakuya's [[spoiler: aborted panic induced murder attempt on her life]]
** The talks she has with Monomi
** Knowing [[spoiler: both the Super High School Level Impostor's identity and the real Togami]]
* TongueTied: After [[spoiler:the other students discover she is the traitor]], she is physically unable to answer any questions about [[spoiler:the Future Foundation]].
* WalkingSpoiler: Like Byakuya, if you haven't finished ''VisualNovel/Danganronpa2GoodbyeDespair'', she may spoil some reveals for you.

[[WMG:Gundam Tanaka]]
!!!Super High School Level Animal Breeder
An odd boy who speaks as though he is an evil overlord and is rarely seen without his four pet hamsters.

* {{Determinator}}: When faced with what looked like a hopeless situation in the wake of the death of one of his "friends" he still tried standing up against the BigBad on his own. [[spoiler: Becomes a VisualPun when it turns out that as a robot he is ''still'' trying to resist the Impostor's control, to the point they are seen [[BadBoss beating him as he does nothing]] as punishment for this]].
* {{Irony}}: He likes talking as he doesn't care about others, and act like he's an evil overlord type when he is normally a very considerate person as shown by [[spoiler: trying to make a HeroicSacrifice to protect his other students]] despite having troubles connecting with them. [[spoiler: But now that he's ComeBackWrong he may genuinely be as dark as he wanted to be before judging by how he attacked those he tried to "save".]]
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He may not make it clear often but he does grow to care about his fellow students. [[spoiler: Gold enough to the point he stayed behind to try and keep the Impostor from going after the others (and his four dark devas) despite both seeing how they killed Nidai and the fact that the fall out from the second trial had made him connecting to the other students even harder.]]
* VisualPun: The boy named Franchise/{{Gundam}} [[spoiler: is made into a robot like Mechamaru was in the original game]].

[[WMG:Kazuichi Souda]]
!!!Super High School Level Mechanic
Hinata's self proclaimed best friend who is terrified by the situation but is trying to make the best of it.

* BadLiar: Souda proves he's just as bad at lying as he is {{Canon}}ically (not to mention [[spoiler:as bad as Saionji was in canon]]) when [[spoiler:he tries to deny having anything to do with the Shrine to Sonia-san]]. His DayInTheLimelight even shows he isn't even good at lying to ''himself'' since he clearly thought Koizumi would be more understanding of his actions because [[spoiler:Sonia killed in order to protect her from Pekoyama and Kuzuryuu]]. Seeing how he is trying to deny [[spoiler:Sonia actually being the killer at all]] this contradiction is rather telling.
* SpeakIllOfTheDead: Inverted. The already dead Komaeda is present during Tsumiki's attempt on Souda's life and uses the opportunity to taunt him over his feelings for Sonia. He also bluntly states that Souda is dying, though he manages to survive in the end.
* TraumaCongaLine: In addition to the obvious situation first he learns his crush [[spoiler: commits a murder]], then his denial long after the fact causes a rift between him and the others, then when he starts showing signs of recovery [[spoiler: he catches Despair fever and makes things ''worse'']], he is [[spoiler: nearly murdered while stuck in this state]], his friends only barely [[spoiler: manage to save his life in time for him to be present at Mikan's trial with no clue what happened while he was ill]], the person most responsible for [[spoiler: saving his life also turns out to be one of the ones to put it in danger for reasons that aren't gone into]], ''and'' then he and the others are all [[spoiler: stranded in the ocean when his injuries prevent him from even trying to swim to shore like the others can]]. In short this boy can ''not'' catch a break.

[[WMG:Teruteru Hanamura]]
!!![[SupremeChef Super High School Level Cook]]
A perverted and portly teen who excels at all things food related.

* HopeSpot: While we know he committed the crime this time around too, the story makes it clear Togami's survival will shift things, so when [[spoiler: Byakuya offers to take his place,]] he really hopes Monokuma will accept it. [[ForegoneConclusion He doesn't.]]
* WeHardlyKnewYe: Since the story doesn't cover the introduction and the first chapter from before the party there isn't too much to say about him that isn't covered on his [[Characters/Danganronpa2MaleStudents original character page]].

[[WMG:Nekomaru Nidai]]
!!!Super High School Level Coach
A forceful but good hearted teen who takes Akane under his wing on the island.

* IdiotBall: In trial three, [[spoiler: while his intentions were good, trying to subdue the Impostor was his worst possible plan and [[HeroicSacrifice boy did he pay for it]]]].
* LikeBrotherAndSister: With Akane, which she also sees as such. [[ShipperOnDeck Saionji doesn't care about that part though]].
* NiceGuy: One of the nicest guys on the island and often helps others best he can like [[spoiler: helping an injured Souda into a wheelchair to keep his torso stiches from getting too aggravated]] and keeping Akane busy so she never tries attacking Monokuma like she did in canon.

[[WMG:Fuyuhiko Kuzuryuu]]
!!!Super High School Level [[{{Yakuza}} Gangster]]
An aloof boy who doesn't seem to care much for the rules Byakuya makes to protect everyone.

* BeAsUnhelpfulAsPossible: During trial two, since he claims to know who did it but won't share before it officially begins. [[spoiler: Not to mention the fact he is wrong about the whole thing since he simply jumped to a conclusion instead of thinking things out.]]
* BodyMotifs: Done as a form of CallBack. Every time [[spoiler:Pekoyama dies]] he becomes [[spoiler:crippled as a result. Just this time he lost his hands to the fire that killed her instead of his eye to her blade trying to keep herself alive.]]

[[WMG:Akane Owari]]
!!!Super High School Level Gymnast
A very impulsive and powerful girl who enjoys eating and fighting but isn't too bright.

* BigEater: Enough to challenge Byakuya to an eating contest. [[spoiler: That she ''won'' since it was speed-based.]]
* DumbMuscle: What she lacks in brains she makes up for reflexes, natural instinct, and brawn. [[spoiler:Seeing how she is the last "muscle" type teen left standing, this is ''not'' a good combination.]]
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: [[spoiler:The Impostor killing Nidai]] ''certainly'' caused it. [[spoiler:[[DeathByAdaptation It doesn't end well for her]].]]

[[WMG:Sonia Nevermind]]
!!!Super High School Level Princess
Princess of Novoselic who despite Koizumi's encouragement just wants to spend her time here as a normal girl.

* AdaptationalVillainy: While she doesn't see it as "Villainy" per se, this Sonia definitely isn't as nice as her canon counterpart. [[spoiler: Mostly because she's the second trial's murderer.]]
* IDidWhatIHadToDo: She really wants to keep her friends safe during her time here but as a royal is well trained in this trope. [[spoiler: Considering she doesn't trust Togami as a leader this proves to be a horrible combination to Pekoyama.]]
* IJustWantToBeNormal: Her primary reason for rejecting Koizumi's requests to take the leadership role from Togami. [[spoiler: And unlike her canon counterpart she never gets to really enjoy her time as one here.]]

[[WMG:Hiyoko Saionji]]
!!!Super High School Level Classical Dancer
A rude bully who uses her cute looks to try and weasel out of trouble when it suits her but adores Koizumi.

* BerserkButton: Seeing anyone show respect to a murderer seems to set her off, which comes to a head when [[spoiler:she sees Souda made a shrine to Sonia, not unlike the one she made for Koizumi in canon]] and assaults him for it. Upsetting Koizumi is a lesser one which the previous event also pressed.
* LackOfEmpathy: Possibly even worse than her canon counterpart in this regard partially because [[spoiler:she didn't lose Koizumi here so it took her longer to start trying to break that habit]].
* WhatTheHellHero: While not a "hero" she certainly didn't think she was in the wrong when [[spoiler:Koizumi]] finally gave her hell for the verbal (and sometimes physical) abuse she has done to her fellow students. Seeing how she was [[spoiler:Mocking Souda ''for not being dead'' after he just got physically stable ''and'' speaking ill of the actually dead Mikan]] also quite the idiotic moment on Saionji's part.

[[WMG:Mahiru Koizumi]]
!!!Super High School Level Photographer
A serious and stubborn girl who doesn't approve of how Togami is trying to lead the group.

* CommanderContrarian: Mahiru always finds things to nitpick about Togami's leadership and tries to either find someone to take his place or offers alternate plans that contradict his intentions.
* CrushBlush: In [[ADayInTheLimelight Ibuki's Greatest Ambition]] during the girl only party and Koizumi [[DamnedByFaintPraise disses most of the guys on the island through half-hearted compliments]] when she gets to [[ShipTease Hinata]] and his "decent face" Ibuki makes note of the fact she is blushing and avoiding eye contact as she says it.
* TraumaCongaLine: Yup another one. Starting with trial two were she learns [[spoiler:during their missing two years she had a friend at Hope's Peak Academy who killed Fuyuhiko's little sister because the Yakuza's little princess was bullying the photographer, she hid evidence of this crime to defend said friend (who wound up dying anyway by Fuyuhiko's hands), her supposed friend Pekoyama wanted her dead because of this to save Fuyuhiko, her other friend Sonia killed Peko to prevent this even though safer alternatives were available, Fuyuhiko blamed Pekoyama's death on her anyway]], ''and'' Saionji won't stop abusing those are her in yet another case of a misguided friend trying to "protect" her without listening to Koizumi's own thoughts on the matter. Her method of lashing out at Byakuya over her own feelings during this doesn't help either [[spoiler: nor does the Impostor's betrayal]].

[[WMG:Mikan Tsumiki]]
!!!Super High School Level Health Committee Member
Very nervous individual who wants to help others any way she can. After Kuzuryuu is injured before the second trial she often helps take care of him and trying to get him from making his injury worse.

* TheCaretaker: Plays this role to Kuzuryuu to an extant after [[spoiler: his hands are horribly burned and he is still reeling from Pekoyama's death. He doesn't want her support so this is hard for her to do effectively though]].

[[WMG:Peko Pekoyama]]
!!!Super High School Level Swordswoman
Very serious and stoic girl who is as reliable as her skills with a sword are.

* AdaptationalVillainy: While in the original game she never needed to be loyal to anyone aside from Kuzuryuu, in this fic, her [[spoiler:allowing Kuzuryuu to play Twilight Syndrome]] is a direct betrayal of the trust Byakuya and Hinata put in her. [[spoiler:Her later trying to play the LadyMacbeth to Kuzuryuu to try and convince him to graduate and having this scene be played to her intended victim Koizumi while the photographer made it clear she thought of the swordswoman as a friend only makes her seem worse.]]
* TheUnSmile: According to Hinata when she tries while guarding the game cabinet.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Teachers]]

[[WMG:Monokuma]]
!!!The Headmaster of Hope's Peak Academy
The one responsible for starting the Mutual Killing Game and mascot the Mastermind is using.

* EvilCannotComprehendGood: Makes it clear he sees [[spoiler:the Impostor's]] sense of morality as "boring".
* FromACertainPointOfView: They can only operate by finding loopholes in Usami's original 4 rules that they are often only able to implement by focusing on how choose to define words. Obviously what Usami would see as "excessive violence" isn't the same as [[NoKillLikeOverKill Monokuma's]] definition of the term.
* NeverMyFault: Played for laughs when Hinata's food was involved by teleporting into it and blaming it on Hinata and used more seriously as a part of the loophole above.

[[WMG:Usami/Monomi]]
!!!The Class Teacher
The original teacher of this "school trip" who is trying and failing to save her students.

* LetsGetDangerous: In the third trial she is a lot more panicked and serious, to the point of needing to be tied up and gagged by Monokuma until the "password" is said in order to keep her from "spoiling" anything. [[spoiler: The fact the password is "[[OhCrap Enoshima]]" is ''very'' telling and shows her panic is far from an overreaction in this case.]] When she is freed [[spoiler: she tries to stand up against the new threat her students faced and when she is executed due to Mikan's death being a suicide she uses her dying words to try to convince the outside world to keep from pulling the plug on everyone here.]]
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: According to [[spoiler: the Impostor]] she willingly [[spoiler: made a DealWithTheDevil with them, tossing ''all'' of her human students under the bus to ensure Nanami wouldn't be hurt by them while she had the Despair Fever (which in turn directly lead to Souda being attacked)]] and also claimed she didn't even bother to hold up her end of this "bargain". While this might not sound so ridiculous at a glance [[spoiler: as an AI made ''only'' to protect and help the humans put into her program as their "teacher" she has both no real reason to do this and shouldn't even have been capable of it in the first place]], not to mention how she'd know [[spoiler: the FF would be watching her throwing her duties away for someone who also prioritizes the safety of her friends over herself]]. While if this was all the result of [[spoiler: her catching the Despair Fever from watching over Nanami]] or not is unclear for the time being it still makes it look like she TookALevelInJerkass.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Spoiler characters: '''Warning these sections will contain unmarked spoilers'''.]]

[[WMG: Komaeda Theaters]]
In place of the Monokuma theaters the games themselves contains a being that appears to be Komaeda's spirit hosts his own spin on them while Hinata sleeps.

* DeadPersonConversation: In a sense, though every time he does reach out to a student it is always simply him having a one-sided conversation with them.
* SpiritAdvisor: An ambiguous one in that it seems he is trying to help Hinata in his own way. As this is [[BlueAndOrangeMorality Komaeda]] we are talking about his meanings and motives are often unclear until after his vague forewarnings (or something that matches them) come to pass.

[[WMG: The Super High School Level Impostor]]
The person who has no identity of their own or gender who has been impersonating Byakuya Togami. Unlike the Byakuya section, this primarily covers their post-despair fever persona, though the spoiler tropes they show whenever their Byakuya mask drops can also be put here.

* AdaptationalVillainy: Since in the original game the Impostor died trying to protect their fellow students, their current position as the BigBad shows a major case of this. Possibly played with since as a member of Super High School Level Despair, their villainy is assumedly identical to the sort of things they are currently doing, but as we never saw them in their Super High School Level Despair state before it still counts.
* AmbiguousGender: The Impostor is referred to with gender-neutral pronouns by the narration after Nanami sees through their disguise in private and after their reveal in the third trial. Them adopting a more Enoshima-like behavior pattern after this to contrast their male Togami Persona doesn't help.
* BeneathTheMask: They are well aware their Togami persona is little like the original and it is partly because as a person they aren't as cold as he is. As time goes on bits of the mask keep slipping showing more of the real Impostor bit by bit but when it does fall off completely [[FaceHeelTurn who we get isn't who they were shown to be at all anymore]].
* BigBad: Since their strain of the despair fever caused them to regain their memories (just like Tsumiki's case did), they have returned to their Super High School Level Despair state and seemingly have taken the reins from Monokuma.

[[WMG:Alter Ego Junko Enoshima]]
!!![[GreaterScopeVillain Super High School Level Despair]]
The former mastermind of the Mutual Killing Game and the one behind Monokuma. She was initially running the Killing Game up until the Impostor took control and locked her in the Funhouse's Octagon.
* BigBad: She ''was'' this as in canon up until the end of Chapter 3 where the Impostor takes control.
* EnemyMine: She's willing to work with the students and the Future Foundation members in order to stop the Impostor after she's freed but being that it's [[HopeCrusher Junko]], [[BeAsUnhelpfulAsPossible she still is attempting to undermine their efforts]] and make them feel despair.
* HijackedByGanon: [[InvertedTrope Inverted!]] The Impostor [[HijackingCthulhu hijacks]] ''[[HijackingCthulhu her]]'' and steals away all of her authority. Leaving her just as powerless as Monomi.
* LaserGuidedKarma: She ends up imprisoned by one of the very people her original self drove into despair.
* MoodSwinger: Being imprisoned hasn't at all changed her tendencies to switch personas on a dime even though it's [[DownplayedTrope Downplayed]] a bit.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: Even while working with the students to defeat the Impostor, ''Nobody'' likes her and everyone's aware of just how deplorable she is.
