The Minelands are a rocky and clay-like region of Noros to the west of Noros, south of the Plains of Death. It is filled with, as the name suggests, mines. Though the land is not good for growing crops, its rich amount of gold, diamond, and gem mines allow the nobility of the land to simply ''buy'' food from the more fertile areas. The region is known for its prosperity and its residents having mysterious powers, the wildlings and the nobles at peace for the most part. Its only major city is the Palace of the Earth, the seat of its nobility, House Komeiji. Bastards in this area are given the surname 'Stone' according to supplementary material, like [[Literature/ASongOfIceAndFire the Westerosi Vale]].

[[folder:The Minelands in general]]
* AnimalEyeSpy: Warging appears to be a common power here, and works like this.
* TheBeastmaster: Several tribes of 'civilized' wildlings, including the Creepwargs and the Oni tribe, though they vary in method: the former is via mind control, using them as an AnimalEyeSpy, and the other is an EmpathyPet-like bond.
* DreamingOfThingsToCome: A family ability of the Komeijis, likely also present in the tribes.
* {{Fiction500}}: It is easily the most wealthy region in Noros.
* GemEncrusted: Pretty much every building in the Palace of the Earth has some form of gem. The palace within the Palace, where Lady Satori resides, is even moreso, with rubies forming a giant rendition of her sigil.
* OurGiantsAreBigger: The Oni Tribe control ogres, which are for the most part large, ugly, beady-eyed humanoids large enough to wield tree-trunks as clubs.
* ScaryStingingSwarm: Some creepwargs control swarms of bees and wasps.
* TheWormThatWalks: Some creepwargs can assimilate worms into these.
[[/folder]]

! House Komeiji

The only major noble house of the Minelands. They reside in the Palace of the Earth, an exceedingly rich city made of marble and gems. Their family members have a history of [[DreamingOfThingsToCome greendreaming]], with the occasional [[AnimalEyeSpy warg]] in there. They made peace with most of the wildlings, and use their men as soldiers, their psychics as spies. Their smallfolk are the most prosperous in Noros, though not the best educated. Their motto is '[[PsychicPowers Thoughts Are Power]]', and their sigil is a deep red eye with nine tentacles coming from it on a black field.

[[folder:In General]]
* AnimalEyeSpy: Some members of the family have this power. Koishi is a living example of this.
* TheBeastmaster: Have wargs under their command and in their family.
* CoolChair: The Golden Tentacle Throne is where the Lord or Lady Komeiji sits, and is an iron chair coated in gold with arms and the lower furnishings wrought in the shape of tentacles. [[SubvertedTrope Subverted]] in that the golden layer has fallen off in places, exposing rusted iron.
* {{Cyclops}}: Their sigil is this.
* DreamingOfThingsToCome: Their usual family power. Satori has particularly cryptic dreams.
* {{Fiction500}}: Are exceedingly rich due to all their mines.
* HowTheMightyHaveFallen: In terms of wealth, they avert this, but their family unit and in particular Satori's emotional fortitude has greatly deteriorated.
* MagneticHero: In the past, when they managed to unite the wildlings under them.
* OurGiantsAreBigger: Command the Oni tribes, which tame massive ogres. [[spoiler:Suika is currently a wight under the control of Yuyuko, hence they have ogres against them too]].
* ShoutOut: Their seat, 'the Palace of the Earth' is a reference to Satori Komeiji's home in Canon: the Palace of the Earth Spirits.
* {{Symbolism}}: The golden coating falling off the Golden Tentacle Throne and exposing the rusted iron is a sign that though extremely rich, the Komeijis are beginning to show weakness.
* PsychicPowers: They boast of these in their motto.
* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: [[AvertedTrope Averted]]. They are closer to neutral than evil.
* TeamSwitzerland: Couldn't care less about the rebellion, merely the whereabouts of Koishi.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Lady Satori Komeiji]]
The Lady of the Palace of the Earth and the Minelands by extension. A [[DreamingOfThingsToCome greendreamer]] who is obsessed with finding her missing sister, Koishi, to the point of madness.

* AdaptationDyeJob: Is pink-haired in Canon, but blonde here.
* [[spoiler:CassandraTruth]]: Her belief that Koishi is still alive.
* CoolBigSis: Was apparently this to Koishi, and loves her dearly, never giving up hope that she's alive.
* [[spoiler:DisneyVillainDeath]]: [[spoiler:With a gruesome [[SubvertedTrope subversion]] in that her splattered corpse is perfectly visible and found by Koishi warging a direwolf. She is pushed out the window by her '[[PeoplePuppets sister]]', Koishi's wight body]].
* DreamingOfThingsToCome: Has greensight, enabling her to see the future in cryptic dreams. She sees Koishi's return in her dreams, and refuses to accept she's dead. [[spoiler:As she turns out, she's completely right, but in a different way than she expected. Koishi does indeed return... in a wolf. Her body, on the other hand, is one of Yuyuko's PeoplePuppets and proceeds to kill her]].
* FiveStagesOfGrief: Is firmly in denial about Koishi. [[spoiler:Turns out she's right, but also wrong, in that Koishi's ''body'' is dead, but her [[AnimalEyeSpy her conscience is very much alive, but in a wolf]]]].
* FreakOut: Goes into one whenever anyone even ''implies'' Koishi might be dead.
* InsaneEqualsViolent: [[AvertedTrope Averted]]. She's weak-willed and emotionally turbulent, but would never be violent even in her FreakOut moments.
* [[spoiler:TooHappyToLive]]: [[spoiler:Is finally reunited with what she thinks is her sister, but is pushed to her death by that same sister shortly after]].
* HeroicBSOD: Is in a permanent one due to Koishi being missing.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Has pale red eyes indicative of her PsychicPowers.
* SelectiveObliviousness: Is deliberately oblivious to the fact [[spoiler:there's something distinctly... off about the 'Koishi' that's returned from Death's Gates]].
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Koishi Komeiji*]]
The missing and presumed dead sister of Satori Komeiji, and a skilled [[AnimalEyeSpy warg]]. Is actually very much alive, [[spoiler:rotting in the dungeons of Death's Gates under the supervision of Ser Youmu Konpaku. After Youmu kills her, her body [[OurZombiesAreDifferent comes back as a]] [[PeoplePuppets wight]] and kills Satori, usurping her while her consciousness lives on in a direwolf]]. Becomes a POV character from Chapter 26.

* [[spoiler:AChildShallLeadThem]]: [[spoiler:Her wight ascends into power after pushing Lady Satori off her balcony]].
* AdaptationDyeJob: Has light green hair in Canon, has light blonde hair in this.
* AnimalEyeSpy: Is a skilled warg, and can warg into animals she does not even know, unlike most wargs in the story which either require [[EmpathyPet friendship with the animals]] or are only able to warg into simple-minded animals like insects and arachnids.
* TheBeastmaster: Is a highly skilled warg.
* [[spoiler:DeadAllAlong]]: [[spoiler:From the perspective of Satori, though she does not know it]].
* TheInformant: Knows all about Yuyuko's scemes [[spoiler:to KillAndReplace every noble with wights, and her main role is indeed as an informant to various people about the impending ZombieApocalypse]].
* IntergenerationalFriendship: With Ser Utsuho and Ser Parsee.
* [[spoiler:LossOfIdentity]]: [[spoiler:Due to her body dying and her consciousness being trapped in a direwolf, Koishi slowly becomes more wolf-like, eventually becoming the beast and mauling Ruukoto, and so the wolf is put down]].
* MoralityPet: The way Ser Parsee treats her shows Ser Parsee is not as evil as [[ObviouslyEvil she looks]].
* NonHumanSidekick: Of a sort to Ser Parsee.
* [[spoiler:PeoplePuppets]]: [[spoiler:Becomes one to further Yuyuko's aims by (as a wight) pushing Satori off her balcony, inheriting the Palace of the Earth, and keeping the Minelands under Saigyouji control (as well as helping finish the rebellion off to ensure a tractable, gullible queen like Byakuren is on the throne}]].
* The Prodigy: Is reputedly a natural at warging, being able to use any animal she likes as an AnimalEyeSpy, though only one at a time, it'd seem.
* RedRightHand: Any animal warged by Koishi has her green eyes.
* [[spoiler:ShootTheDog]]: [[spoiler:Is a victim of a literal case when in a fit of losing herself to the direwolf, she mauls Ruukoto, and is promptly killed by Iku]].
* SkywardScream: Her howl as a direwolf in response to [[spoiler:Satori's death]] is an equivalent to this.
* SpannerInTheWorks: Her survival [[spoiler:by direwolf]] and her [[spoiler:ability to communicate with wargs who occupy her direwolf's body]] enable her to inform Noros [[spoiler:about the impending ZombieApocalypse]].
* TheSpeechless: Can talk fine as a human, but as an animal, not so much. [[spoiler:And given she spends most of the story in a wolf, it's what she becomes]].
* {{Telepathy}}: If she occupies the same animal as another warg, she can communicate directly with their mind and vice versa. [[spoiler:She uses this to inform Utsuho, Yamame, and one of Mamizou's wargs of the wights]].
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: Wargs into a direwolf [[spoiler:as a last ditch resort due to imminent death]].
* YankTheDogsChain: [[spoiler:Looks to finally reunite with her sister, albeit as a direwolf, but then finds her dead from ''her own body'' pushing Satori off the Palace's balcony]].
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Ser Utsuho Reiuji*]]
A noncombatant knight and raven warg who acts as a [[AnimalEyeSpy spy]] and more specific, secretive messenger pigeon for House Komeiji. Becomes a POV character in Chapter 8.

* AdaptationalWimp: Is nowhere near as powerful as her Canon counterpart, even when scaled down to the LowFantasy the story is, however she gains smarts where she had none in Canon.
* AnimalEyeSpy: Can warg into a raven, and uses this to deliver messages to unconventional, more private locations and spy on the rest of Noros.
* BigEater: Due to her extended periods within her raven,her human body becomes hungry, and so she regularly feasts to make up for her starvation.
* BlankWhiteEyes: Has these while warging.
* CantSpitItOut: Her inability to tell Satori that [[spoiler:unKoishi is not the Koishi Satori has been looking for]] has dire, dire consequences.
* ChekhovsGun: The raven which Tewi has and delivers the Komeiji letter to Ichirin is none other than Utsuho's raven.[[spoiler:Also, her wildfire pots ultimately lead to her demise at the hands of wight!Suika]].
* CleverCrows: Her raven is seen by ''[[MagnificentBastard Yuyuko]]'' as merely a clever raven when on Tewi's hand, and even when not warged, her ravens are skilled talkers.
* EmpathyPet: Unlike Koishi, Utsuho needs to befriend and know her ravens well before warging into them.
* GreekFire: Has a thing for it according to supplementary materials.
* TheInformant: Her job to House Komeiji. [[spoiler:Also, heavily implied to be this to [[TheSpymaster Tewi Inaba]]]].
* InformedAttribute: According to [[AllThereInTheManual supplementary material]], she has a thing for [[GreekFire wildfire]], but the only sign we have of that in the story is that there's pots of the stuff in her chamber. [[spoiler:As it turns out, these are a ChekhovsGun, and result in her tower burning down]].
* IntergenerationalFriendship: With Koishi, who she respects for her skill in warging.
* [[spoiler:KilledOffscreen]]: [[spoiler:Her tower is burned down by wight!Suika, presumably while she was warging, killing her body]].
* OnlySaneMan: Feels like she shares this role with Rin when compared to the RagtagBunchOfMisfits that make up [[ObviouslyEvil La]][[SubvertedTrope dy]] [[GigglingVillain Sat]][[ObfuscatingInsanity ori's]] [[BoisterousBruiser cir]][[TheAlcoholic cle]].
* {{Pyromaniac}}: Supposedly, though it's an InformedAttribute.
* RavenHairIvorySkin: Due to not getting out much.
* RedRightHand: As with Koishi's green eyes, any animal warged by her has her brown eyes.
* ShoutOut: Her love for wildfire is a reference to her powers in Canon, that is, nuclear fire.
* TalkingAnimal: Her ravens talk even when not warging, a case of RealityIsUnrealistic as ravens actually ''can'' talk.
* {{Telepathy}}: Like Koishi, if she wargs an animal with another warg's consciousness within it, she can converse directly with that warg's mind.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: It is implied [[spoiler:she was warging when she died]], but we do not get another POV of her since [[spoiler:her tower burns down]], so her fate is ambiguous.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Ser Rin Kaenbyou]]
A knight of the Palace of the Earth and Ser Utsuho's friend. Is the only major commander of relatively normal soldiers.

* DemotedToExtra: Compared to her role in Canon, where she's the ultimate instigator of an incident.
* [[spoiler:LaResistance]]: [[spoiler:Is part of Yamame's coup against unKoishi]].
* {{Muggles}}: Is this compared to everyone else in Satori's circle.
* {{Necromancer}}: Rumored to be one, and [[spoiler:unlike the others rumored to be]] she isn't one.
* OnlySaneMan: She and Utsuho think themselves this compared to the RagtagBunchOfMisfits that make up [[ObviouslyEvil La]][[SubvertedTrope dy]] [[GigglingVillain Sat]][[ObfuscatingInsanity ori's]] [[BoisterousBruiser cir]][[TheAlcoholic cle]].
* OneSteveLimit: Is one of the few to [[AvertedTrope avert]] it, as she shares her first name with Royal Maester Rin Satsuki.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Has red eyes, but [[SubvertedTrope is one of the nicer people]] in the series.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Ser Yamame]]
The leader of the Creepwarg tribe, knighted for her services to the Komeijis. A raving old woman who dresses in spider silk, and is covered in the spiders she controls.

* AdaptationalAttractiveness: [[InvertedTrope Inverted]]- she's an old lady in spider silk and covering with said spiders, as opposed to a young girl in a puffy, spider-like outfit.
* AnimalEyeSpy: Sees through spiders, [[spoiler:which helps when she prevents [[OffscreenTeleportation Yukari]] from pulling a fast one out of Noros]].
* TheChessmaster: Is surprisingly competent despite her ObfuscatingInsanity, and is crucial to several Minelands schemes, including [[spoiler:finding out Koishi's body is dead while she lives on in a direwolf]] and [[spoiler:forming a rebellion to depose wight!Koishi]].
* CoolOldGal: Is actually this, though she seems to come off as a crazy old lady.
* [[CrazyCatLady Crazy]] [[FriendToAllBugs Spider]] [[CrazyCatLady Lady]]: Deliberately plays up her obsession with her spiders and calls them her 'babies' as a method of ObfuscatingInsanity. [[spoiler:As her methods in killing Yukari show, she does not hesitate to sacrifice her 'babies' to make a point]].
* HiveMind: Seems to control spiders like this.
* [[spoiler:LaResistance]]: [[spoiler:Organizes a coup against unKoishi, bringing Yuugi, Rin, and Parsee in on the act]].
* LaughingMad: Part of her ObfuscatingInsanity.
* ObfuscatingInsanity: Pretends to be a LaughingMad old lady, but is actually incredibly intelligent.
* OffscreenMomentOfAwesome: [[spoiler:Her formulation of a fully-functioning rebellion against unKoishi]].
* OnlyOneName: As she has no knightly house and is the leader of a tribe, she's in no need of one, in contrast to her Canon rendition's surname of 'Kurodani'.
* PoisonousPerson: Controls venomous spiders.
* RankUp: [[spoiler:Becomes Master of Coin under Queen Remilia]].
* SpidersAreScary: Invokes this to help with her ObfuscatingInsanity.
* VaporWear: Though ''entirely'' not for fanservice. It seems all Yamame wears is spider silk, and as an old woman, that is [[FanDisservice not good]].
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Ser Yuugi]]
One of the leaders of the Oni tribes. Drinks sake quite regularly and can control ogres.

* TheAlcoholic: Is rarely seen without a sake dish.
* TheBeastmaster: Can tame ogres.
* EmpathyPet: She explains that ogres, while not warg subjects, require a close bond to obey humans, and generally only follow the hand that tamed them.
* [[spoiler:LaResistance]]: [[spoiler:Plays a crucial role in the coup against unKoishi by having her ogres defeat/recruit unSuika's loyalist ogres]].
* MrExposition: Is the one to explain how taming ogres works.
* OnlyOneName: Like Ser Yamame, due to being a tribal leader, not a regular knight.
* OurGiantsAreBigger: Controls ogres, large humanoid beasts that lumber slowly, have black, beady eyes and are large enough to wield ''trees'' as clubs.
* RankUp: Becomes [[spoiler:one of Remilia's queensguard]].
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Ser Suika]]
A short, young commander of the Oni tribes. Recently has fallen ill, suffering from what the wildlings call 'blue-eye'. [[spoiler:Turns out she's a wight, and she's been Yuyuko's agent in the Minelands since before the story began]].

* [[spoiler:AdaptationalVillainy]]: [[spoiler:Due to being one of Yuyuko's PeoplePuppets from the get go]].
* TheBeastmaster: Like Ser Yuugi, can control ogres.
* [[spoiler:DeadAllAlong]]: Thought to be suffering from 'blue-eye, [[spoiler:but it turns out her blue eyes and lethargy are from her being undead]].
* [[spoiler:DisneyVillainDeath]]: [[spoiler:Dies by falling from her ogre's shoulder]].
* EmpathyPet: Her ogres, especially her personal ogre, who [[spoiler:grieves profusely when she falls from its shoulders]].
* [[spoiler:EvenEvilHasLovedOnes]]: [[spoiler:Though the Suika the ogre befriended was likely a very different person, the ogre still grieves intensely for Suika when her body falls from its shoulders and dies]].
* GlowingEyesOfDoom: A symptom of her 'blue-eye'. [[spoiler:Actually a sign that she's a wight]].
* [[spoiler:TheMole]]: [[spoiler:For Yuyuko, as she can see through her eyes]].
* OurGiantsAreBigger: Controls the same sort of ogre as Yuugi.
* [[spoiler:OurZombiesAreDifferent]]: [[spoiler:Yuyuko can use her body to speak, command, and interact with others, allowing her to wield ogres]].
* [[spoiler:PeoplePuppets]]: [[spoiler:Is one for Yuyuko]].
* SelectiveObliviousness: Deliberately takes the hidden-in-a-litter [[spoiler:wight!Koishi, knowing that she's a zombie]], without comment.
* UndeathlyPallor: Part of her symptoms of 'blue-eye'. [[spoiler:As it turns out, actually due to her being a wight]].
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Ser Parsee]]
A creepy sorcerer with a [[InTheHood hooded-over face]] and green GlowingEyesOfDoom who stays by Lady Satori's side at all times. She is capable of manipulating emotions with '[[CallARabbitASmeerp Old Norosian]]' incantations, mostly using them to comfort the unstable Satori.

* AdaptationalAttractiveness: [[InvertedTrope Inverted]]. In canon she's just another little girl in frilly clothing. In this, she's ''terrifying''.
* AdaptationalBadass: For the [[LowFantasy genre]] she's been transported to. She manages to send [[spoiler:'Mugetsu's']] army to sleep all at once as an example of her badassery.
* AdaptationalHeroism: As with below, though she has looks that imply AdaptationalVillainy, she's actually far kinder than in Canon and demonstrates UndyingLoyalty to Satori.
* AdaptationalVillainy: [[SubvertedTrope Subverted]] by her appearance. It is far more menacing than the Canon version of her, but in actuality is [[AdaptationalHeroism far kinder]] than her Canon self.
* TheAtoner: [[spoiler:Schemes to take revenge against wight!Koishi after she, in her mind, lets Satori die as atonement]].
* BadPowersGoodPeople: Has the very dark ability of EmotionControl, potentially resulting in her being able to mind control Satori, but instead she simply uses it to comfort her, though [[spoiler:she also uses it in self defence]].
* BlackCloak: Covers her entire body and most of her face with one.
* EmotionControl: Her chief power, used to induce comfort and sleep.
* TheEmpath: Can sense and control emotions.
* GlowingEyesOfDoom: Has a pair of pupil-free [[ShoutOut green]] ones.
* HorrifyingHero: Is surprisingly heroic despite her horrifying nature.
* HumanoidAbomination: Implied to be this, but a surprisingly [[BadPowersGoodPeople heroic]] example.
* InTheHood: Has a face-concealing hood, showing only the occasional blond hair strand and [[GlowingEyesOfDoom green glowing eyes]].
* MonochromaticEyes: They are entirely green and glowing.
* MyGreatestFailure: Considers [[spoiler:failing to save Satori from wight!Koishi]] as this.
* ObviouslyEvil: A massive [[SubvertedTrope subversion]] in that she is in no way evil, in spite of her VoiceOfTheLegion, [[InTheHood covered-over-face]] and GlowingEyesOfDoom.
* PsychicPowers: Can control, and is sensitive to, emotions.
* RankUp: [[spoiler:In the Epilogue, she's replaced Yamame as Master of Coin, likely due to Yamame dying of old age]].
* ShoutOut: Her green eyes are often mentioned, and is a reference to her Canon counterpart's ability to manipulate [[GreenEyedMonster jealousy]].
* UndyingLoyalty: To Lady Satori and Koishi Komeiji.
* VoiceOfTheLegion: Speaks like this in what is said to be a 'hateful tone', regardless of content.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Lothar Thousandskins]]
A lame member of the Creepwarg tribe that is a highly skilled bee warg, able to possess whole swarms at once. Serves as the Creepwarg spy.

* AnimalEyeSpy: Can see through the eyes of bees.
* TheBeastmaster: Over bees.
* EvilCripple: Is a notable {{Jerkass}}, and also has a bad leg.
* {{Jerkass}}
* OriginalCharacter
* ScaryStingingSwarm: Controls whole swarms of bees.
* ShoutOut: His name is an obvious shout out to the wildling warg of Literature/ASongOfIceAndFire, Varamyr Sixskins.
* TokenEvilTeammate: [[DownplayedTrope Downplayed]]. He's merely a {{Jerkass}}, but still worse than most of the Minelanders.
