The AC Cobra is a British sports car produced by AC Cars in 1962, which was sold in the United States as the [[MarketBasedTitle Shelby Cobra]].

It was the successor of the AC Ace, a similar two-seater roadster that utilized a pre-UsefulNotes/WorldWarII Bristol straight-6, designed by BMW which was too dated for TheSixties standards. In September 1961, American automotive designer Carroll Shelby stepped in and proposed to AC if they would build a car modified with a V8 engine, which Ford sees interest, which would compete with the Chevrolet Corvette. Thus Ford accepting the offer and provided Shelby two different engines.

The original Cobra comes with a 4.3L 260 cu in or a 4.7L 289 cu in Ford Windsor V8 engine and weighing about 900 kg, while its revised [=MkIII=] was uprated to a 7.0 427 cu in V8. The Cobra was capable of reaching 264 km/h (164 mph) which is pretty fast for a car at that time.

[[UsefulNotes/TwentyFourHoursOfLeMans Le Mans]] driver Ken Miles once drove this at Sebring, [[EpicFail which failed to finish the race due to engine and damper failures]], as he proclaims that [[TheAllegedCar the car was deemed undrivable]], and naming it "The Turd".

While production of original Cobras ended, and despite several complicated history about the company, AC has continued building UpdatedRerelease Cobras well into TheNewTens and TheNewTwenties with modern tooling and newer platforms, packing many safety features and even electric powertrain to keep up with the times.

Known as the Type 952, the Giulia name was revived from its iteration from TheSixties and TheSeventies, unveilled in June 2015 and launched on February 2016, serving as the successor to the 159 which ended 5 years earlier.

The car was made by the same engineer who developed the Ferrari 458 Speciale as Alfa Romeo's request for a rear-wheel drive sports saloon, last seen in the 1992 Alfa Romeo 75, was what helps the company in RevisitingTheRoots. The car has 50-50 front-rear weight distribution, carbon fibre driveshafts and aluminium alloy suspension components. It comes in different tiers of trims; the entry-based Giulia, mid-level Super and fully-loaded Speciale, all powered with 197 hp, a higher-performing Veloce and Veloce Ti offered in petrol or diesel engines and an optional AWD system, and the top-of-the line Giulia Quadrifoglio, utilizing a twin-turbo V6 engine producing 503 hp and a top speed of 307 km/h (191 mph), making it the fastest Alfa Romeo production car to date. A track-oriented GTA and [=GTAm=] were introduced on March 2020, limited to 500 units as a part of Alfa Romeo's 110th MilestoneCelebration.

Alfa Romeo Giulia would be the go-to police car in Italy, replacing the outdated 159, where the Giulia Quadrifoglio serves as the car for the Carabinieri.

-->--'''Creator/JamesMay'''

Before the Porsche 911 became the TropeCodifier of rear-engine sports-cars, there was this "other" rear-engine sports car hailing from a small commune in Dieppe, France. The Alpine A110.

It is a sports "berlinette" coupe produced in 1963, effectively replacing the Alpine 108. It was a remarkable evolution to the brands name in terms of power output, where the car was completely powered by numerous components from the Renault R8 Gordini, including its inline-4 engine, producing at 51 hp at first, but its end of production sees three times the horsepower at 180 hp. The car catches the attention of Renault themselves, leading to factory financial support, forming the Societe Anonyme des Automobiles Alpine, or "Alpine" for short. The car would become the firsts in UsefulNotes/{{Rallying}} when the Alpine A110 won the inaugural UsefulNotes/WorldRallyChampionship for manufacturers in 1973, [[BrokenAce though the car would see its twilight when it struggles to compete with its competitors due to its outdated performance]], leading to the discontinuation of the car in 1977.

After Alpine's dissolution in 1995, it was reported that Renault was attempting to relaunch Alpine with its new concept car. One example is the Alpine A110-50 concept in 2012, dubbed the "Alpine revival", created by Renault for its 50th [[MilestoneCelebration anniversary]] of the 1962 Alpine A110. Its concept design would also spawn the Renault [=DeZir=], an [[GreenAesop electric-motor concept sports car]]. Two years later, in 2015, the new Alpine Celebration was created alongside its CGI-made Vision VideoGame/GranTurismo. The former was created to celebrate Alpine's 60th MilestoneCelebration, and with that, Alpine was [[TheBusCameBack resurrected]] in 2017, with the concept car finally pushing into a full-production car.

The brand-new Alpine A110 was introduced in 2017 at the Geneva Motor Show, built on an all-aluminium construction, powered by a turbocharged Nissan inline-4 engine, while still retaining its rear-engine layout. Its notable feature is its body design, a {{Retraux}} from the original Alpine A110 in 1962. The car saw success thanks to its performance and its retro-style design, it spawned two new variants, a high-performing and lightweight [=A110S=] in 2019 and the track-focused [=A110R=] (R stands for "Radical") in 2022.

The A110 has been owned by famous people like ''Franchise/{{Tekken}}'' creator Creator/KatsuhiroHarada, UsefulNotes/FormulaOne driver Fernando Alonso, and former ''Series/{{Top Gear|UK}}'' host Creator/JamesMay, who describes the A110 as "the greatest thing to come out of France since the Mouli cheese grater".

[[AC:Anime and Manga]]
* Chapter 222 of ''Manga/DoctorSlump'' depicts an EyeCatch of Akane Kimidori driving Arale and Obotchaman inside a cartoon-y A110.
* ''Franchise/LupinIII'' has another example of the small European classic from France:
** Fujiko Mine once drove this classic blue Alpine in the first five episode, probably used for cruising purposes.
** This becomes crucial in the movie ''Anime/LupinIIICrisisInTokyo'', where Lupin himself takes command of the blue Renault Alpine A110 Berlinetta this time, rather than his usual Fiat 500.
* Probably one of the most notable examples would be the CoolCar of Kouki Sawatari of ''Manga/MFGhost''; 2017 Alpine Blue Alpine A110, a lightweight sports car. [[WeakButSkilled Despite its inefficiency, Kouki has everything in his disposal to take the top spot]], [[spoiler:which he makes up for after failing to qualify after the Odawara Pikes Peak round.]] [[spoiler:[[MidSeasonUpgrade He gets into better trims in later rounds]], such as the high-performing [=A110S=] for Round 4, and the track-focused [=A110R=] for Round 5.]]

* A modern 2017 A110 can be seen in ''Series/Formula1DriveToSurvive'' in one episode of season 4, usually tied with the Alpine F1 Team.
* Alpines play a critically major role in the French live-action adaptation ''[[ComicBook/MichelVaillant Les Aventures de Michel Vaillant]]''. One documents about Henri Grandsire, who commandeers a 1966 Alpine A110 Berlinette used throughout the 13 episodes.

* Any rally racing game that has the classic Alpine A110 would certainly count. [[WeakButSkilled It may not have the power, but its small lightweight body makes this one agile French rally car]].
* Probably the car known for its tail-happy handling that "slides while cornering"; the Le Chariot A1 of ''VideoGame/Driv3r'', based off the 1961 Alpine A110.
* Coming in hot in ''VideoGame/{{Driveclub}}'' is this Renault Alpine A110-50 from the Redline Expansion Pack, alongside its free {{DLC}}, the GreenAesop PaletteSwap Renault [=DeZir=] concept. Both would be the basis for the 2017 Alpine A110.
* Both ''VideoGame/{{Forza}}'' and ''VideoGame/GranTurismo'' have the classic and modern-day Alpine A110 in the franchise. The former is one of the Barn Find cars of ''Horizon 2'' as well as the reward car in the "Dirt Racing" Horizon Life of ''Horizon 4'', while the latter has the modern A110 as the IA-License prize car for winning all gold in ''7''.
* The Toundra Panthere in ''VideoGame/GrandTheftAutoOnline'' is loosely based on the 2017 Alpine A110.
* The Lusca in ''VideoGame/LegoCityUndercover'' is inspired by the 1962 Alpine A110, thanks to the shape of its yellow headlights.

The AMC Javelin is an American front-engine, rear-wheel-drive, two-door hardtop car manufactured by American Motors Corporation (AMC) across two generations: 1968 through 1970 and 1971 through 1974.

Styled by Dick Teague, the car was positioned and marketed in the pony car market segment and available in a range of trim and engine levels, from economical pony car to muscle car variants. It was designed to compete with the Ford Mustang, and to a certain degree, with the second-generation Plymouth Barracuda.

In addition to manufacture in Kenosha (Wisconsin), Javelins were marketed globally, being also assembled in Germany, Mexico, Philippines, Venezuela, and Australia.

The second-generation AMX variant was the winner of Trans-Am race series in 1971, 1972, and 1976; and was also the first pony car to be used as a standard vehicle for highway police by an UsefulNotes/AmericanLawEnforcement agency.

The AMC Pacer is a two-door compact car produced by AMC from 1975 to 1980.

The car was characterized by its aerodynamic "jellybean" styling consisting of rounded shape and large glass area, which were unusual compared with the three-box designs of the era. (To the point French advertisements for the car rather infamously [[https://cdn.drouot.com/d/image/lot?size=fullHD&path=61/119008/1a84a3a6b19813687734d068634c77c0 compared it with a woman's buttocks]].) Still, the Pacer's width was equal to full-sized domestic vehicles at the time, and as a result of this unique design feature the car was promoted by AMC as "the first wide small car." The Pacer was also the first modern, mass-produced, U.S. automobile design using the cab forward concept, which places the driver's compartment substantially farther towards the front than is common practice.

Reviews upon its introduction used descriptions like "futuristic, bold, and unique", though some publications such as ''Car and Driver'' also called it "the seventies answer to [[WesternAnimation/TheJetsons George Jetson's]] mode of transportation." By the late '70s, however, the luster had worn off the design, and as more sophisticated competitors were introduced, the press began criticizing the lack of power and performance, contributing to its short-lived production run.
----

* A 1977 Pacer D/L station wagon was featured in ''Film/OhGod'', starring Music/JohnDenver and Creator/GeorgeBurns in the title role. Jerry (Denver) drives the car in several scenes, including one in which God makes rainfall only inside the car.
* A blue 1976 AMC Pacer was the "Burgermobile" in ''Film/GoodBurger''. The car was modified with a large hamburger decoration encompassing the hood and other fast food-stylized decor attached to the rear bumper, hubcaps, windshield wipers, and roof. After the movie, the car was purchased by the International Hamburger Hall of Fame and the Hamburger Museum in Florida.
* A 1976 AMC Pacer hatchback is prominently featured in ''Film/WaynesWorld'' and its sequel as the "Mirthmobile". It is most famously seen in the introductory scene of the first movie, where Wayne (Creator/MikeMyers) inserts a cassette tape into the stereo of the Pacer, and he, Garth (Creator/DanaCarvey), and their friends enthusiastically enjoy listening to "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Music/{{Queen|Band}}. The Pacer used in both movies was painted bright blue with flame decals, with stock steel wheels and wheel covers in the front, aftermarket chrome-plated steel wheels in the rear, a two-tone light blue-and-beige vinyl interior, as well as a licorice dispenser mounted in place of the overhead light in the headliner. It has been noted that a '70s car in a '90s was integral to the movie's cultural references, as Wayne and Garth "are performing the seventies for the nineties."

The A8 was presented during the 1994 Geneva Auto Show in March and full-scale factory production began three months later. The A8 uses an all-aluminium monocoque Volkswagen Group D2 platform which was marketed as the "[[MarketBasedTitle Audi Space Frame]]" (ASF), aiding in the car's structural rigidity. The A8 is usually a saloon with a 113.5 in standard wheelbase (SWB), though the A8 L is offered a longer wheelbase (LWB) adding an extra 5 inches of rear legroom, as well as being offered in either front-wheel drive or a quattro-based all-wheel drive. The A8 is also the first ever production car to ever feture both front and ''rear'' side airbags.

It is also offered in various engine types, ranging from the either FSI petrol or TDI diesel types, as well as the standard entry-level 2.8 L-3.1 L V6, 3.7 L/4.2 V8, and powerful V10 and Volkswagen's patented W12 engine.

->''"The Audi Sport quattro was an instant success when it took to the Rally stages in 1985. With its powerful 5-cylinder engine, and shorter wheelbase than its predecessors, it is one of the most recognisable Group B rally cars."''
-->--'''Description''', ''VideoGame/{{DIRT}} 3''

The German sports coupe that gave rise in the UsefulNotes/{{Rallying}} world.

The high-performance Audi quattro road car began production at the start of TheEighties, where it was first introduced at the Geneva Motor Show on March 3, 1980. The name ''quattro'' is derived from the Italian word "four", [[MeaningfulName which best represents the vehicle delivering its power to all its four wheels]]. This idea was dated back in 1977 by Audi's chassis engineer, Jörg Bensinger, who came up with an idea for a high-performance four-wheel drive car. Its existing Audi Coupé designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro would serve as the basis of the quattro.

As the name implies, the car uses a longitudinal front-engine, ''four-wheel drive'' layout, powered by an SOHC inline-5 engine, generating about 200 horsepower. The quattro's power can propel its top speed, reaching over 220 km/h (137 mph). Later iterations of the quattro had its engine modified throughout its production, such as the 1989 quattro's engine uprated with a powerful 20-valve 2.2 L DOHC, producing 20 more horsepower.

The last quattro was produced on May 17, 1991 with about 11,500 units made, before it was succeeded by the Audi S2 on the same year.

Quattros have became a part of the rally competition where it road-going models have been the basis as for the Group B category in the UsefulNotes/WorldRallyChampionship. The car saw lasting success with Finnish driver Hannu Mikkola and German driver Walter Röhrl winning several rallies and even securing championship titles from 1982 to 1984. A powerfully evolved Sport quattro S1 E2 with an aggressive aero and a powerful 493 hp engine took rallies by storm, such as dominating the San Remo Rally in 1985 as well as achieving total victory at the Pikes Peak hillclimb in 1987.
----
[[AC:Film -- Live Action]]
* Since the quattro has played a critical part of the UsefulNotes/{{Rallying}} world, ''[[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Race_for_Glory:_Audi_vs._Lancia Race for Glory: Audi vs. Lancia]]'' has lots of Audi quattros to tally whether if its the road cars or the rally car Walter Röhrl used in the 1983 UsefulNotes/WorldRallyChampionship, the film's central setting.
[[AC:Live-Action TV]]
* DCI Gene Hunt's CoolCar is the bright red Audi quattro in ''Series/AshesToAshes2008'', which he refuses drive through a pile of boxes with. And his iconic CharacterCatchphrase goes;
-->'''Gene:''' Fire up the Quattro!
** The iconic car would ironically be used for the Labour Party posters of the 2010 general election, featuring UsefulNotes/DavidCameron [[https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2010/apr/02/david-cameron-gene-hunt-labour-poster posing as Gene Hunt sitting atop of the quattro]].
[[AC:Video Games]]
* As a legendary Group B and Pikes Peak rally car, expect the quattro to be present in many rally games, especially being an [[InfinityPlusOneSword Infinity+1 Car]] due to its overpowered stats;
** It's an almighty DifficultButAwesome Group B car in both ''VideoGame/ColinMcRaeRally'' and ''VideoGame/{{DIRT}}'' due to being powerful but difficult to control. Also for the latter has this monstrous hillclimber S1 Pikes Peak, and Travis Pastrana surely admits that it's his favorite.
** ''VideoGame/SegaRally'' has two different Masters-class quattros; a classic Quattro A2 and the almighty S1 Pikes Peak, being a venerable Specialist on its own.
* [[ImprobablyCoolCar Probably you won't be expecting a rally car being driven on the public roads]] in ''VideoGame/DriverSanFrancisco'' as it includes Audi Sport Quattro S1, which would be one of the opponents in the aptly named "Group B Classic" race mission featuring [[ThoseTwoGuys Jun and Ayumu]].
* ''VideoGame/{{Forza}}'' ensures the Sport quattro doesn't miss ever since its introduction in ''Motorsport 2'', while it's also one of the 5 ''Horizon'' LCE cars. But what takes the cake here is that Barn Find in ''Horizon 4'' featuring a wrecked red Quattro, possibly as a ShoutOut to the final episode of ''Series/AshesToAshes2008'' [[spoiler:where the car was destroyed during a shootout in the final episode.]]
* While the fourth game features the 1982 quattro road car, ''VideoGame/GranTurismo 6'' on the other hand offers two different rally monsters; the quattro S1 Group B and the hillclimbing S1 Pikes Peak, a prize car for dominiting the Super class in career mode. The latter would return in ''Sport'' oddly added with in the Gr. B category alongside the fictional rally cars.
* Befitting the rally car archetype, the Wulff Bolter in ''VideoGame/MotorStorm'' takes inspiration of the Audi Sport Quattro Group B car, driven by various racers in ''Apocalypse''.
* Uniquely for a cross-country EpicRace, the Audi quattro 20 V made its [[OneShotCharacter one-shot appearance]] in ''VideoGame/NeedForSpeedTheRun'', [[spoiler:Which Jack can either use amongst the 3 available Audis for his gauntlet against the Mob.]] Its Rally Pack body kit/NFS Edition would resemble its A2 rally counterpart.

** '''R8 V10 performance RWD''' (2022-2024) -- The rear-wheel drive version of the R8 V10 performance quattro.

The R8 has been involved in various motorsports active; the Audi R8 LMS serves as the basis for the [=GT3=] category race car, which saw success after winning the 2015 24 Hours of Nürburgring with Audi Sport Team WRT.

The high-performance version of the BMW 3 Series, the M3 was developed by BMW M, BMW's in-house motorsport division. Every generation of 3 Series has been accompained by M3 models ever since the E30 M3 was introduced in 1986.

It was initially available in a coupé body style, with a convertible body style made available soon after. The E36 (1994–1999) and E90 (2008–2012) generations additionally offered saloon versions. Since 2014, the coupé and convertible models have been rebranded as the 4 Series range, making the high-performance variant the M4, so that generation of 3 Series saw the M3 produced only as a saloon. In 2020, the M3 was produced as an estate (touring) for the first time, alongside the saloon.

In motorsport, the E46 M3 became known for its history in the American Le Mans Series, having competed in the 2000 edition and finishing third in the championship. Its straight-six engine was viewed as uncompetitive compared to the Porsche 996 [=GT3=], however, so BMW began to develop a new M3 racing car based around a more powerful engine. The resulting E46 GTR racing car, introduced in February 2001, was powered by a 330 kW (443 hp) version of the 3,997 cc (4.0 L) P60 V8 engine, with which it went on to win the 2001 American Le Mans Series. However, this made the eligibility of the GTR became subject of controversy, as some rival teams considered that the GTR was an in-house prototype vehicle rather than a production model available for purchase by the general public as ALMS rules required competing cars to be. The ALMS homologation rules for 2001 in particular required the M3 GTR road car to be sold on at least two continents within twelve months of the rules being issued, which BMW claimed to fulfill by stating that 10 GTR road cars were available for sale. The ALMS rules were altered for 2002, now requiring that 100 cars and 1,000 engines must be built for a car to qualify without penalties; with the GTR road car never intended for production on this scale, BMW withdrew the GTR from competition. In 2003, the M3 GTR returned to competition at the 24 Hours Nürburgring, winning in 2004 and 2005, and also competed in the 24 Hours Spa.

* ''VideoGame/{{Forza}}'' has every BMW M3 generation known to man.
* There are various M3 variants in ''VideoGame/GranTurismo 4'': the vanilla M3, CSL and the GTR (both in race and road-going). ''5'' adds the [=E92=] M3 and ''6'' adds 2 different M3 [=GT2s=], one of which is one of the Gr. 3 cars of BMW.
* Starting with ''VideoGame/GrandTheftAutoIV'', the Sentinels in the series would be based on the M3.
* ''VideoGame/Juiced2HotImportNights'' claims to have the BMW M3 GTR, but the car featured in the game has the exhaust position wrong, two seats (and thus doesn't have the large tube where the passenger seat should be, which the actual M3 GTR has) and no roll cage. Simply put, the interior of the M3 GTR in this game is the same of what you'll typically find in an ordinary M3 road car. Also there ''is'' an ordinary M3 road car on the BMW list.
* The M3 [=E46=] GTR would end up becoming synonymous with ''VideoGame/NeedForSpeed''. Simply put, it is '''the''' ''Need for Speed'' car that defined the series in the TurnOfTheMillennium onward. It is so cool, it made many appearances after ''Most Wanted'':
** The M3 GTR became forever definited by its debut in ''VideoGame/NeedForSpeedMostWanted'', in which it is a MacGuffin, as the game's Career Mode consists of retrieving it (after [[ATasteOfPower having the chance to drive it for a few races at the start of the game]]) after being stolen by Razor, a street racer who won it in a race via cheating. It is so cool, it would make many appearances in various other entries after ''Most Wanted''.
** ''[[VideoGame/NeedForSpeedProStreet [=ProStreet=]]]'' relegates the M3 GTR into just a [[BroughtDownToNormal good ol' regular regular vanilla M3]]. Joining the M crew also includes the V8-powered M3 [=E92=] coupe, where a white G-Effect variant was driven by Grip King, Ray Krieger.
** The ALMS-spec M3 [=GT2=] appears as the front cover of ''[[VideoGame/NeedForSpeedShift Shift]]'', and you can get for free by completing the [[TheVeryDefinitelyFinalDungeon Need for Speed Live Championship]]. The same car would be the one Tommy Milner drives in the sequel. The same game also features its less-powerful road car cousin, the M3 [=E46=], and is driven by Race King #7 Marc Demarcher in the PSP version.
** Then you have Jack Rourke's signature car, the [=E92=] M3 GTS in ''[[VideoGame/NeedForSpeedTheRun The Run]]'', one of the cars he can use to start his EpicRace journey.
** You have Robyn's E46 M3 in the [[VideoGame/NeedForSpeed2015 2015 reboot]] that looks bone-stock other than the CSL front and the stickerbomb fender.
* The Hailkal R of both ''VideoGame/WatchDogs'' and ''VideoGame/WatchDogs2'' is clearly a BMW M3 (E92), just without the signature BMW kidney grille.
* ''VideoGame/WanganMidnightMaximumTune 5'' adds this M-powered Beemer in its respective regions... the Japan release has the [=E92=] M3, while overseas gets the [=E46=] CSL. The ''[=5DX=]'' in both sides get the other ends.

When BMW decided to convert the M3 to solely sedans, this coupé got a name of its own.

The BMW M4 is the top-of-the-line high-performance variant of the 4 Series lineup of coupes and convertibles, debuted in 2014 as the successor to the V8 powered M3 ([=E92=]). Typically it utilizes a 3.0 L twin-turbocharged inline-6 engine, capable of producing 425 horsepower. (much as previous M3 generations prior to the [=E92=] use inline engines).

The second-iteration of the M4 (dubbed the M4 Competition) was introduced in 2020, based on the BMW Concept 4. It's quite widely known for adopting its large twin-kidney grille from the 4 Series.

The M4 saw action in motorsports, such as the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters, where it saw success with Marco Wittmann winning the Drivers Championship in 2014 and 2016. The [=G82=] M4 would also be the brand new Group [=GT3=] race car, effectively replacing the M6 [=GT3=] in 2022.

* Can be obtainable in ''VideoGame/{{Driveclub}}'' via ''Ignition Expansion Pack''.
* The M4 has become a mainstay in ''VideoGame/{{Forza}}'' since its inception in ''Horizon 2''. In ''Horizon 3'', you can choose this after you recruit your first Drivatar and it can be fitted with a Liberty Walk body kit.
** There were also later iterations of the M4 added after that; the track-oriented M4 GTS introduced in ''Horizon 3'', and the 2021 M4 Competition in ''Horizon 5''.
* It was added in ''VideoGame/GranTurismo 6'' during a post-launch update, alongside its safety car. The M4 also serves as the Gr. 4 race car in ''Sport'' and ''7'', notable for its big H&R logo.
* Since the M4 served as the safety car at that time in [=MotoGP=], you get to drive this car in ''[=MotoGP 14=]'', added as a bonus!
* Appears as one of the original launch cars of ''VideoGame/NeedForSpeed: No Limits'', where it also gets a unique vinyl design akin to the one of the [[CoolCar M3 GTR]] from ''[[VideoGame/NeedForSpeedMostWanted Most Wanted]]''.

The BMW M5 is a series of high-performance variant of the 4-door 5 Series introduced in 1984 under BMW's M sub-brand. Majority of the [=M5=] were produced in saloon bodies, though some countries were also offered in wagon/estate.

Both the [=E28=] (1984-1988) and the [=E34=] (1988-1995) were initially a rear-wheel drive saloon powered by a 3.5 L or 3.8 L inline-6 engine before jumping into various levels. The [=E89=] M5 was the first ever to use a V8 engine, capable of an increase of power up to 400 hp. The [=E60=] M4 introduced in 2004 features a powerful [=V10=] engine and a 7-speed paddle-shift gearbox used from BMW Sauber's UsefulNotes/FormulaOne car. The [=F10=] M5 in 2011 became the first turbocharged M5 model while the [=F90=] in 2017 was also offered in an [=xDrive=] all-wheel drive powertrain.

** Ethan Hunt and Grace (Creator/HayleyAtwell) would soon be handcuffed inside a BMW [=540i=] (with an interior disguised as a M5) ''without doors'', during the long run against the local Italian police in Rome in ''Film/MissionImpossibleDeadReckoning''.

* ''VideoGame/{{Forza}}'' features every single generation of the BMW M5 as the [[SequelEscalation series escalates]]. And by ''Horizon 4'', it now has ''all the 6 generations'' of the M5 in the BMW lineup.
* The 2004 Concept M5 first appeared in ''VideoGame/GranTurismo 4: Prologue'' obtainable by getting all gold medals in the Orange section. This would later be evolved into a full-production road car available in ''4'', with a fully detailed 2008 variant appearing in ''5''.

This first ever hypercar to reach 400 km/h [[note]]Technically speaking, it's the Dauer 962 Le Mans, a road car variant of the Le Mans racing prototype Porsche 962, which was the first to reach 400 km/h. And it was produced in 1993, albeit in limited quantities.[[/note]] is perhaps what kickstarted Bugatti to become a very popular luxurious brand. [[MeaningfulName Named after French racing driver Pierre Veyron]], the Bugatti Veyron EB 16.4 was introduced in 2005, succeeding the EB 110, and is the first model under Volkswagen AG.

Rare to any other car is Bugatti's unique [=W16=] engine, having a displacement of over 8.L and ''four'' turbochargers. With that, its unusual engine can produce 987 hp (equivalent to '''1,001 PS''') and can reach 408.4 km/h (253.8 mph).

In 2009, a targa-top version of the Bugatti Veyron was unveiled with its extensive reinforcements to compensate the lack of the standard roof. In the same year, Bugatti launched a much more powerful version, called the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport, capable of producing over 1,200 hp. Its top speed can reach up to 431 km/h (267 mph), with its Literature/GuinnessWorldRecords for the world's fastest production car is quite questionable but later verified when Pierre-Henri Raphanel drove it, without the electronic limiter. The Super Sport's open top variant, the Grand Sport Vitesse became the fastest production roadster in the world.

The Veyron ended production in late 2014 though special editions and one-off models continued until 2015 before everything was succeeded by the Bugatti Chiron in 2016, while its world records were broken by the Koenigsegg Agera RS in 2017.
