Sakimoto has been coming up with many militaristic themes epic in its own right since ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyTactics''.
----
* With an epic plot, epic characters, NintendoHard gameplay, it must be said that the entire music of ''VideoGame/VagrantStory'' is equally epic. Again, Hitoshi Sakimoto at the helm. For battle themes, try [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZqpdsieTL_s "Ifrit"]], or better yet [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ftzHKRDIvp4 that battle theme against wyverns!]]. For dungeon themes, try listening to "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Alm1vIlgc6Q Catacombs]]", or "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8E8PsIgp3Y Undercity]]". On a rainy night. Alone.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHEy-VAk4Ww Electric Power Building]] from ''VideoGame/BreathOfFireDragonQuarter'' has Sakimoto create a really unique soundscape. The soundtrack also contains one of Sakimoto's more unique pieces, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_5C8JIYmlE Calling from a Distance]], which has some uniquely Mitsuda-esque organ buildup and choir (which isn't really a coincidence as sound production of the game was helmed by Yasunori Mitsuda himself).
%%* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gomwnxyxosk Alchemist]] from the Creator/{{Atlus}} RPG ''VideoGame/StellaDeusTheGateOfEternity'' would qualify.
%%* ''VideoGame/ValkyriaChronicles'' entire soundtrack, especially the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MP9rJdxmuQU Main Theme]]. The Main Themes of the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktsZDEfxM9E other]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUSj1ehcTKA two]] are gorgeous too.
* The soundtrack of ''VideoGame/RadiantSilvergun'' is legendary among [[ShootEmUp Shoot Em' Ups]] for being, in a word, epic. In particular, "Debris" combines his usual orchestral flair with booming polyrhythmic drums to create an urgent high-energy track that runs during the fights with Gallop and [=UE2A-GAL=] during the later sections of Stage 3. "The Stone-Like" also gets a special mention, as the song only consists of an ominous choir, and plays during the boss fight of Xiga at the end of Stage 6, whose "[[BossSubtitles Be Attitude For Gains]]" consists only of "Be Praying". It gives the fight an air of "There is no hope for humanity; Give up.", which is [[DownerEnding rather accurate to what happens at the end of the game]].
%%* ''{{VideoGame/Gauntlet}} 4'': [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BOagvSmosBg Sortie.]]
%%* ''Verytex'': [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V74bsAMOwBQ The Void of Space.]]
%%* ''Devilish'' (a.k.a. ''VideoGame/BadOmen''): [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EIYosYgJhsU Introduction.]]
%%* ''VideoGame/{{Gradius}} V'': [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDbGrpBZ2WM Aircraft Carrier (Big Core Mk. I)]] and, closer to his typical Epic Orchestrated style: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2nTYnLPpiQ Elephant Gear.]]
%%* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nqeLvzecIsk That Which Stands in the Way.]]
%%* ''VideoGame/OdinSphere'': [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfX40ijfBbw World Map.]]
%%* ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyTactics'': [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fploz2OQXJ0 Team Making.]]
* ''VideoGame/TacticsOgre'': [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSHOThtkjPo Limitation.]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gHmpC7tN7VE Avilla Henya.]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isw_tM_P6MM Theme of Black Knight.]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPJ7VpNEvcE Song of Tundra.]] We could go on forever with this game. In fact, the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KR3jOBklsJ8 SNES MIDI version]] of Avilla Henya is far more tense and atmospheric than the PSX or PSP versions!
* Even for the most obscure Japan-only games of the 90's, Music/HitoshiSakimoto did his best: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqGcYMmUmrI Intro]] to ''Hourai Gakuen no Bouken''.
* ''VideoGame/MasterOfMonsters'': [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FR3HYFlXUXU Introduction]] - he never let silly things like chipset limitations or hardware quality get in the way of making epic music. Hear that 'ah-ah-ah' choir vocal in the background? That's not a PCM sample. That is entirely produced by the Genesis' FM synthesizer.
%%* A more 'indie' song: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-wz0evZmEps Dungeon]] from ''The Adventure of Hourai High School''.
* ''VideoGame/LordOfVermilion II'': [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-kmEDKlF9s Collaboration with an electric guitarist for great effect, to say the least.]]
* ''VideoGame/{{Soukyugurentai}}'': [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-nZeEbDU9k Descent Into The Sea Of Clouds]] and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XC77MWcdspg Arctic Oil Field Base.]] It's quite interesting to note that this game is also on the same arcade board alongside Radiant Silvergun, which leads to some more comparisons (other than the music, of course.)
%%* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGcv5tPLW7s Bubble Ghost Theme]], one of his first video game soundtracks.
* [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tF-gFlQKOnM Neo Verona]] from ''Romeo X Juliet''. It manages to sound grand, bombastic, and flowing all at once. Fantastic.
* ''VideoGame/MagicalChase'': The [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xs0y1X7Ef5E 5th Stage]] is dark and choral, while the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NblBlm-j3pI 6th Stage]] goes prog-rock wild with polyrhythms and arpeggios. All of this in a CuteEmUp on the '''Platform/TurboGrafx16'''.
%%* ''VideoGame/SwordManiac'': [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehsfwz9ZnFg "Shadow Devourer"]], [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fATUi3tUL2Q "The Retribution"]], [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZysBrtFLYhA "Iron Jungle"]], and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3gxf0Tc6gg "Mad Buffoon"]].
* The work he did on the obscure Sega 32X game ''Cosmic Carnage'' was rather amazing. Of note is [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gg19OGrU0gw the unused sixth song in the sound test.]]
