Context Awesome / Wintersmith

Go To

* Tiffany dealing with an amorous and obsessive Wintersmith. She taught him in one stroke what it is to be human, and while he was distracted, redirected the heat of the sun to melt him and his entire palace.
* Granny Weatherwax using reverse-headology to convince the other witches to give Mrs. Earwig's star pupil Miss Treason's old cottage. Annagramma, of course, screws up big time, discrediting Mrs. Earwig. Tiffany, angry at Granny using Annagramma as a dupe in her game, organizes the other apprentice witches into getting Annagramma back onto her feet. So Annagramma's doing well, but all the witches know that Granny's favorite witch-in-training had to come to her rescue, so Mrs. Earwig's still discredited.
* Annagramma later gets one of her own, scaring the trousers off a group of villagers by bursting onto the scene like a mad old crone out of hell (special effects courtesy of Boffo's Novelty & Joke Shop, No. 4, Tenth Egg Street, Ankh-Morpork, "If It's A Laugh...It's A Boffo!!!"), and blasting the Wintersmith (who's in a fake human body, threatening Tiffany) with a fireball.
* In this corner, Nanny Ogg's Badass LovableSexManiac cat, Greebo. In this corner, Granny Weatherwax's puny little kitten, You. Poor Greebo.
** Yeah, the only other animals that even slowed Greebo down before were Mrs. Gogol's cockerel Legba and a MamaBear vixen defending her kits.
** Made more Awesome because, when Greebo realized that the kitten was there, You first sat down unconcernedly and washed her ears. Which alert readers of other Discworld books will be aware is a deadly insult in Cat.
* The Feegles convince TheFerryman to cross back without the extra payment he demanded. How? By threatening to stay.
* Roland's sword.
* Tiffany realizing the Feegles are making off with Miss Treason's funeral feast, angrily chases them down, confronts them, and gets them to stop. Doubles as one of the book's SugarWiki/FunnyMoments and a BrickJoke, with Tiffany misusing Feegle dialect and the Feegles' terrified reactions to her Crossing Of The Arms and Tapping of the Feets, which Rob had detailed earlier as part of the "hiddlins of husbandry", scaring the crap out of his men on the process.
--> Tiffany: Stop stealing the funeral meats right now, you wee scuggers!
--> Rob Anybody: Socks wi’oot feets?
* In an odd sort of way, Miss Treason's death. In her last moments she still goes out of the way to fan her myth as much as possible, literally walking into her own grave in front of the villagers, and jamming her pocket watch (which was said to be replacing her heart) while appearing to die mid sentence. Tiffany notes that the onlookers will remember this for the rest of their lives.
* Nanny Ogg just being Nanny Ogg is pretty awesome at any time.
* In the audiobook, during the Feegle's interpretation of "Row Row Row Your Boat" (crossing the river Styx), the narrator not only sang it, but re-recorded it several times to sing it in Rounds. Steven Briggs is truly the voice of Discworld.
* In the very first chapter, Tiffany pulls off some extremely impressive magic, channeling the heat of a huge bonfire into a magical heat ray to dig a path through the snow. She's come a long way in her training.
