''Solty Rei'' is a {{manga}} and 26-episode {{anime}} series that follows Roy Revant, a widowed bounty hunter who captures criminals for the Maverick Hunters agency ([[VideoGame/MegaManX not that one]]), in a city where a phenomenon called the Aurora Shell prevents air travel (anything approaching is struck by lightning) and interferes with electronics. Then, Roy's rather unhappy life is inverted when an unusual girl named Solty literally falls into his life...

!!Tropes:
%%* AffablyEvil: [[spoiler:Ashley Lynx]]
* AfterTheCredits: Watch through to the credits of ''"The Future"'' (the finale episode) to get an epilogue showing [[EarnYourHappyEnding the true ending]].
* AfterTheEnd - The "Blast Fall", an event that didn't quite destroy civilization, but nonetheless totally changed society.
%%* AIIsACrapshoot
* AlliterativeName - Roy Revant, Rita [[spoiler:aka Rose]] Revant, Miranda Maverick.
* AmazonBrigade - The RUC girls, anyone?
* AnachronicOrder - In one specific case: If you're watching the DVD set, after episode 9, go to the last disc and watch "B1" & "B2", then go back to 10. B1 & B2 were {{interquel}}s, set between 9 & 10, but cut from the Japanese broadcast. It's pretty funny, too.
%%* AntiHero - Roy's initial character. [[CharacterDevelopment He changes as the series goes on]].
%%* BadassAdorable - Solty.
%%** With a side of CuteBruiser.
* BeachEpisode - Well, a ''pool'' episode - ''Waterside Panic''. Fulfills the trope function of [[{{Fanservice}} putting the cast in swimsuits]].
%%* BewareTheNiceOnes - And don't try to electrocute them either. "I ''hate'' bad people!"
* BigBad: [[spoiler: R.U.C. Director Ashley Lynx ([[HijackedByGanon at least until the final episode]])]]
** [[spoiler: [[ManBehindTheMan AIs behind the man]]: Eunomia and Eirene, Dike's (Solty's) "sisters", who appear to undergo ZerothLawRebellion.]]
* BirdsOfAFeather: Roy and Miranda are this considering they're both people widowed by the events of the Blast Fall that killed their respective spouses and end up having young charges to parent over to give them a reason to keep living.[[spoiler:This is invoked by Miranda to get Roy over his angst over chasing away Solty as part of a ReasonYouSuckSpeech against Roy for chasing away someone who cares about him. It's also used as the reason the two end up falling in love with each other.]]
* BioAugmentation: "Proceeds" are revealed to be this: byproducts of the Blast Fall (all female) who develop assorted superhuman abilities. The [=RUC=] squad is shown to be Proceeds. [[spoiler:Eventually, Rose is revealed to be this and why she looks different from when she was Roy's daughter Rita.]]
** Concerning cybernetics, the series gives three terms: "natives" (no implants), "resembles" (some cybernetics), and "genuines" (completely cybernetic). The first two are common. Solty is the only one than be called "genuine" as she's a RobotGirl.
* BittersweetEnding: In the end, the world is saved, but seemingly at the cost of Roy losing Solty, who performs a HeroicSacrifice at the final battle and is seemingly destroyed in space. Roy never gives up in believing that Solty remains alive, however, and after years of painstaking efforts, he finally finds her in the DistantFinale, badly damaged but still in working condition, and the story ends with him finally taking her home.
* {{Brainwashed}} - [[spoiler: It is never really clear if Rose was or was not, as the series even mentions that would be a bad idea because it could hamper her performance. It can be assumed that it may have been used earlier on her to prevent her from contacting anyone.]]
** [[spoiler: It's later shown to be at least partially MoreThanMindControl: a product of Ashley carefully justifying his cause to Rose, and as far as it goes, the JerkassHasAPoint: he ''is'' attempting TheStarscream against a renegade AI that wants to control humanity. It's only when things really went wild that she decided to see things for herself and set up her turning back around.]]
* BrattyHalfPint - Kasha, who regularly bosses her mother around.
* CyberneticsEatYourSoul - Resemble tech may be expensive, but it's considered otherwise innucuous...[[spoiler:until Ashley reveals that Resemble tech was the product of Eunomia--he was the first to receive it--and Resemble serves as a trump card for Eunomia, allowing it to MindControl anyone equipped so.]]
* [[spoiler:DeadAllAlong - Why did no more colonits come from the ship? This is why. Apparently, they fell victim to a plague that spread through the ship. Those already on the ground managed to miss it, but this event was the catalyst for some of the series' more tragic plotlines. Solty reveals this to Ashley just before he dies.]]
* DistantFinale: Takes place five years after the climax, covering how all the protagonists are doing, [[spoiler:with the exception of Solty, who is still [=MIA=] after destroying the renegade colony ship. Roy assumes, correctly, she's still in space. After the credits, however, it skips forward ''again'' twelve years ''after'' that, where Roy is in space, having finally grown tired of waiting and decided to find her himself. And he does: ''frozen and half-wrecked, but still conscious'', and he breaks down in tears of relief.]]
%%* DivingSave - Done multiple times, by both Roy and Solty.
%%* DrivesLikeCrazy - Integra.
* [[spoiler:EarthAllAlong - Inverted. The audience is left to assume the series is set on Earth, but late in the series, the world is revealed to be a colony world, and the Aurora Shell is revealed to be a terraforming device that helps generate the necessary atmosphere.]]
* EasyAmnesia - After hitting a metal beam headfirst, Solty can't remember her past or her real name.
* FakingTheDead - [[spoiler:Rose.]]
* {{Fanservice}} - The [=RUC=] TransformationSequence, Solty's frequent backside shots, and the fact that there is a shower or bath scene nearly every episode
* FondMemoriesThatCouldHaveBeen - Roy Revant, Solty's aloof and coldly distant adoptive father [[spoiler: frantically pleaded for his little girl to not go through with the suicidal HeroicSacrifice to save the planet, even going as far as telling her that he would take her to the amusement park like any father would his daughter. She simply smiles with tears in her eyes, and says that she's happy to have been his daughter, and bravely steps into the shuttle to her doom.]]
* GetAHoldOfYourselfMan - Miranda doesn't just hit Roy to bring him out of his HeroicBSOD, she beats the tar out of him. It's stated that this isn't the first time concussive maintenance was applied.
* GogglesDoNothing - Kasha wears pink goggles on her head for no readily apparent reason.
* GratuitousEnglish - "I lost my husband and he lost his [[{{Narm}} doughter]]."
* HappilyAdopted - Solty by Roy, Kasha by Miranda. [[spoiler: This is actually why Rose initially rejects Roy after finding out she's his daughter.]]
* HealingHands - Solty. It's not as perfect as the trope usually is, but it's better [[KilledOffForReal than the alternative]].
* HeroicBSOD - Roy after [[spoiler:Rose's "death"]].
* HeroicRROD - Integra is limited to three [[SuperSpeed accelerations]], or she risks life-threatening neurological damage.
* HiddenEyes - Solty, just before going badass.
* HollywoodCyborg - "Resembles".
* HugeGuyTinyGirl - Roy and Solty.
* HumongousMecha - WalkingTank variants.
* IfYouKillHimYouWillBeJustLikeHim - Everybody present pulls this on Rose to keep her from killing the man who murdered her best friend when she was just a child. [[spoiler:It works but as soon as Rose is out of sight and earshot, her brother Larry kills the murderer anyway.]]
* IKnowYouAreInThereSomewhereFight - [[spoiler: Solty, to Rose. It works.]]
* InTheNameOfTheMoon - Rose Anderson likes to do this.
* IOweYouMyLife - The reason Solty starts following Roy around.
* IntergenerationalFriendship - Kasha and Silvia, following their stalking tour together.
* ItsPersonal - Rose in the episode ''Revenge''.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold - Roy.
* JustLikeRobinHood - Rose and her brothers become thieves to help provide medicine and other supplies for the 'unregistered' residents.
* LaughingMad - Accela, during her temporary FreakOut.
* LethalChef - Will. When you'd rather eat [[strike: [=MREs=] ]] "ration packs" than someone's cooking...
** Solty starts off that way, but improves dramatically with practice.
* LetsGetDangerous - The weird little girl ''looks'' harmless, right up ''until'' she punches you into the next postal code.
* LineOfSightName - Solty, from the brand name of a phonograph.
* LivingEmotionalCrutch: Solty is this for Roy and Kasha is this for Miranda.
* [[spoiler: LongLostRelative]]
* LoveMakesYouCrazy - [[spoiler: Ashley Lynx, who is the main antagonist until the final episode.]]
* MadeOfExplodium - A scanning machine blows up from just trying to ''examine'' Solty.
** However, it's not actually an example of ReadingsAreOffTheScale. Yuto just plugged the machine directly into the main power line to [[TimTaylorTechnology give it more power]] (not a good idea).
* [[spoiler: ManlyTears: Roy sheds some genuinely believable manly tears when it's known that he might lose one of his daughters, Solty, because of the events of the final episode (staying after the credits shows that Solty survived).]]
* MasterComputer - Eunomia
* MeaningfulEcho - Will, who Solty befriends in the desert, often states something and then says, "just kidding!" due to his carefree nature. This happens constantly during his episode [[spoiler:until the last time, when he tries to hide the fact that he loves her, even when he knows he'll die soon. After he dies, Solty begins to use that saying from then on, to remind her of him.]]
* MegatonPunch - The use of Solty's PowerFist.
* MidSeasonTwist - The [[spoiler:"death" of Rose, just after she is revealed to be the daughter Roy has been looking for all along]].
* MotorMouth - Solty, too.
* NoTranshumanismAllowed - Averted. The series is full of cyborgs and genetically altered individuals.
* ParentalAbandonment: Done for a good cause by Rita "Ravant's" father.
* PoliceAreUseless: They don't even investigate ''attempted murder'' unless you come file a report.
%%* PoweredArmor - The [=RUC=] team.
%%* PowerGlows
* PowerFist: Solty, when it starts vibrating.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld - [[spoiler:Solty, Ashley and Joseph are all revealed to have been alive since the planet's colonization over 200 years ago: Solty (as Dike) due to being a gynoid SpaceshipGirl, Ashley and (assumed) Joseph due to early Resemble implants.]]
* RobotGirl - Initially assumed to just have a lot of cybernetic enhancement, [[spoiler:Solty is revealed to be one.]]
* RoofHopping
* RummageSaleReject - Solty picks the... ''unusual'' outfit after Roy says he "loves it" without looking at it just to get her to pick an outfit.
* SadisticChoice - [[spoiler: In the GrandFinale, Roy is being forced by Ashley to choose between Rose and Solty, both captured. Roy [[TakeAThirdOption takes a third option]] and shoots his own arm with his free hand so he wouldn't be forced to shoot. Ashley shoots ''him'' instead and a ''very'' pissed off Solty and {{Power Armor}}ed Rose free themselves.]]
* ShootTheDog - When Larry Anderson is involved, criminals don't survive the day.
* SmallGirlBigGun - Kasha, when she grabs and fires a giant bazooka.
* SpiritAdvisor - Will serves as a sounding board for Solty's introspection.
* TakingTheBullet - Both Roy and Solty have done this. Comes out better for her than for him. Solty actually ''catches a bullet'', carrying the momentum into a [[OffhandBackhand backfist on the attacker]].
* TearsOfJoy: Roy and Solty in the finale, after they are finally reunited when he finds her badly damaged but still functioning body in outer space and he embraces her.
* TemptingFate: After Rose and Roy reconcile with [[spoiler:Rose telling Roy that she's happy to be his daughter]], Rose comments that this was easier than she thought. [[spoiler:Cue the clock tower exploding and her getting crushed beneath it.]]
* ThemeNaming: The [=RUC=] girls are all named after Japanese cars. The three {{Master Computer}}s are named for the Greek goddesses of law and order, the ''Horae''.
* UnusualEars: Solty's are long, pointed, expressive, and the same color as her hair. Kasha actually asks if it's some sort of new fad.
* UnusuallyUninterestingSight: Rose holds Roy at gunpoint in the middle of a busy sidewalk, and ''no one'' but Solty reacts.
* WeHaveReserves: [[spoiler:Eirene believes that all that is needed to preserve humanity is to collect its data, AKA, their DNA samples. If the current humanity becomes too unruly to be kept alive, then she believes they must be destroyed so that she can just restart humanity from the samples. [[ShutUpHannibal Solty argues that humanity is more than just data - they're also people with lives.]]]]
* WeHelpTheHelpless: Rose and her partners.
* YourPrincessIsInAnotherCastle - Episode 23 ends with [[spoiler:Ashley and Eunomia defeated, and the city rebuilding, complete with HardWorkMontage]]. Unfortunately, Solty discovers that [[spoiler: Eirene is about to pull a ColonyDrop on the city]]. Not good.
