* FetishRetardant: The "[[DawsonCasting young people]]" on the beach dancing... [[{{Padding}} and dancing]]... Well, except for the inexplicable hot Romulan girl. The leads' romance is tepid at best, as well. The reason? [[IncestuousCasting They're brother and sister]]. Yes, [[{{Squick}} they share a kiss in the film]].

* WTHCostumingDepartment: The monster suits in general are rough, but the sausage-mouths are particularly bad -- the actors inside were forced to paw their victims, since there was no clear way they could bite them, and what function these things serve (scrubbing villi?) is left to the viewer's imagination. Even the producers apparently realized how absurd they were after shooting; both the [[https://fffmovieposters.com/wp-content/uploads/57367.jpg theatrical poster]] and comic adaptation instead depict the Horrors as having fangs, with the latter [[http://www.mrpevney.com/images/comics/horrorPartyBeach/horrorPartyBeach_53.jpg touching up film stills just to hide them]].

(According to cast members, including band members from the Del-Aires who saw the costumes before filming, the sausages were in fact the fingers of rubber gloves, stuffed and spray-painted; the eyes were painted ping-pong balls. ) Even the producers apparently realized how absurd they were after shooting; both the [[https://fffmovieposters.com/wp-content/uploads/57367.jpg theatrical poster]] and comic adaptation instead depict the Horrors as having fangs, with the latter [[http://www.mrpevney.com/images/comics/horrorPartyBeach/horrorPartyBeach_53.jpg touching up film stills just to hide them]].

* FairForItsDay: Eulabelle's characterization is based off the very dated [[EthnicMenialLabor "mammy" archetype]], with a few silly superstitions thrown in for good measure. However, she's also the only person who actually moves the slow plot along and comes across as the smartest person in it in her efforts to do so.

However, she's also the only person who actually moves the slow plot along and comes across as the smartest person in it in her efforts to do so. She even figures out how to kill the monsters, ''and'' kicks Hank's ass verbally when he tries to give up finding sodium!

"What an Idiot!" is now Flame Bait. Renamed one trope.

* SpecialEffectsFailure: The eponymous Horrors look like some strange combination of fish, frog, and hapless actor in a bad suit. The mysterious tubes resembling pickles that jut out of their mouths are more baffling than intimidating, and even with these drawbacks, the film still manages to screw up the costume on a few occasions.
* WhatAnIdiot:
** When the scientist finally guesses where the monsters' lair is:
-->'''Dr. Gavin:''' Fingal's Quarry? Good God, why didn't I think of that before! It's the deepest body of water around here, and it's right near where those three girls were killed.
** Hank is ready to give up on finding enough sodium to effectively fight back when he hasn't even finished going down the list of chemical suppliers in the phonebook. The next one he calls has it, naturally.
*** To compound this idiocy, he complained that all of the companies he called had to get their supply from New York. Apparently calling the supplier with the capacity to deliver sodium to ''all'' of the local companies never occurred to him.

* HarsherInHindsight: Wonder why the Del-Aires didn't make it big?
-->On the night of August 25, 1963, the Del-Aires were just wrapping up a very raucous set at the Angel Lounge in Lodi, New Jersey, when two police officers arrived at the club to investigate a noise complaint. Unfortunately, two career criminals – [[https://www.amazon.com/Night-Devil-Untold-Trantino-Killings/dp/0940159708 Thomas Trantino]] and Frank Falco – happened to be at the club celebrating a successful heist they’d pulled earlier that day. Sgt. Peter Voto entered the bar first while his partner waited in the patrol car; he was immediately ambushed by the pair and ordered to remove his clothes. A few minutes later, Voto’s partner Gary Tedesco – an unarmed probationary officer – came inside to see why Voto hadn’t returned; he was likewise taken hostage and ordered to strip. Trantino and Falco then shot the helpless kneeling police officers in the head, killing them both. Falco was shot by police a few days later while resisting arrest and Trantino gave himself up. The Del-Aires disbanded shortly afterward due to “creative differences.”

* EnsembleDarkhorse: Eulabelle. She's the only character to have any sort of personality, which happens to be quite lovable, and she's the character who really contributes most to moving the plot along: first by discovering that sodium can kill the monsters, and then by persuading Hank to get off his ass and go track down some sodium.

* DesignatedHero: Hank. He's a guy who hates fun, for some reason about being too old. The fight on the beach is caused by his girlfriend's flirting... the girlfriend he broke up with not just five minutes ago. He actually starts the fight, and comes close to actually ''killing the lead biker by strangling him.'' He also gives up way too easily in tracking down the sodium to kill the monsters, to the point that when Eulabelle convinces him to get off his ass and try the rest of the names in the phone book, literally the very next one he calls has some.

* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: The Del Aires were a moderately successful UsefulNotes/NewJersey-based band. In the [=MST3K=] season episode guide, the Brains briefly stopped ripping on the turkey of a film to mention that The Del-Aires are really pretty good.
* DesignatedHero: Hank. He's a guy who hates fun, for some reason about being too old. ([[DawsonCasting I'll say.]]) The fight on the beach is caused by his girlfriend's flirting...you know, the girlfriend he pretty much broke up with not just five minute ago. He actually starts the fight, and comes close to actually ''killing the lead biker by strangling him.'' The people helping in the fight had to pull him off, and then he tries to break free, like he was a deranged criminal. He also couldn't be bothered to go get some sodium ''to fight and kill some monsters that have been murdering women left and right''.
