Extra points for a variant of "don't do anything at all" being said each time. ** Mayor Mare insisting on Applejack using her prize money to fix the roof, only for the latter to end up falling short can be seen as "Don't make promises you can't keep."

* AccidentalAesop: Applejack staying out of Ponyville to pay off the prize money she didn't win can be interpreted as "Your loved ones want ''you'' rather than material possessions. Don't let your mission to acquire it keep you from them."

* TheWoobie: Applejack. Just listen to how downright ''heartbroken'' she sounds revealing how she failed! She feels like she's a complete and utter failure for not getting the awards the town expected her to.

** That said, the [[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS2E15TheSuperSpeedyCiderSqueezy6000 very next episode]] was already confirmed to be another Applejack based one, so it was easy to disprove any such theories, though considering all info given about that episode before this episode mention the Apple Family, but not Applejack herself.
** The fans, after hearing Rarity's vow of vengeance, quickly assumed that she was the reason why Rainbow Dash was in the hospital in "Read it and Weep". When the episode premiered, it turns out to be her crashing.

** JerkassWoobie: Both the above and the below tropes paint Applejack in a flawed, but sympathetic light. Her actions are all in good intentions but she has a prideful and misguided direction to it.

** There are some who consider the episode to be very tedious due to it's predictability as well as the contradiction of Applejack being the Element of Honesty.
** To a lesser extent, the contradiction of Rainbow Dash being the Element of Loyalty gets this due to [[ForgottenFallenFriend leaving Pinkie Pie and Rarity behind.]]
*** While there are some fans who want both the defenders and the detractors of Rainbow Dash and Applejack's actions to ''get over it,'' stop demonizing Dash, and move on.

* HarsherInHindsight: Compare this episode where Granny Smith says "Our little bushel just lost one apple" (in reference to Applejack's desertion) while Big Macintosh and Apple Bloom sob in the background. Mildly sad at the time, but absolutely heartbreaking after "Apple Family Reunion", [[spoiler: where it's revealed, albeit implicitly, that Applejack's parents are dead.]]
* SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments: Fluttershy and Twilight Sparkle: "We can always find a way to fix the hole in the roof, but if you don't come back who's going to fix the hole in our hearts?" Even the tomboyish Rainbow Dash shed a tear at that line.

* TearJerker: The Apple family's reaction to Applejack not coming back is pretty heartmelting (particularly Apple Bloom), as is Applejack admitting in defeat her reason for avoiding her friends, she didn't come first in ''any'' event, and considers herself a failure because of it.
** Becomes even ''more'' of a TearJerker, as well as Harsher in Hindsight, when watching the episode after seeing "Apple Family Reunion". In that, everypony in the Apple Family makes an appearance... except [[spoiler: Applejack's parents, who [[StarsAreSouls confirmed to be dead]]]]. Now watch that aforementioned scene again ad realize how heartbroken the Apples must have been at the thought of [[spoiler: losing ''another'' family member]]...
* {{Wangst}}: It can be a little hard to feel pity for Applejack being rude to her friends, breaking a Pinkie Promise, and leading them on a dangerous desert chase, just because she [[spoiler: didn't win first place.]]

** Pinkie and Rarity's trip back on the handcar. The two characters are rarely paired up with each other and the stories usually play out like the WesternAnimation/FamilyGuy episode ''Road to Rhode Island''.
