* TrueMeaningOfChristmas: In Christmas Lost and Found, the standard "It is better to give than receive" is interpreted through the Nativity, as God's gift of his only son to the world. Davey had heard the story a zillion times before, but finds a deeper understanding in the process of giving away his role as one of the Three Kings in a performance of a play he had put on to a Christmas tree saleskid.

* JesusTaboo: Although the series was produced by the Lutheran Church, the characters rarely mentioned specific religious grounds, to ensure the show had a broad appeal.A notable exception is the Easter episode, where Davey's father uses the Easter story to help Davey cope with the death of his beloved grandmother. There's also an episode where Davey and his friends take First Communion in their church, but that one was not as widely released. Davey and Goliath's Snowboard Christmas mentions Jesus as a setup for Davey learning about Chanukah and Ramadan.

WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons episodes "Bart the Lover", "Simpsons Bible Stories", "HOMR" and "Ned 'n' Edna's Blend" all include mocking references to Davey and Goliath. Creator/AdultSwim's WesternAnimation/MoralOrel started as a direct spoof (at least, that's what popular belief will tell you)the show's creator only says it was inspired by Series/LeaveItToBeaver, but the homage in the character design seems obvious.

Pruning Word Cruft. And "it's" is a contraction of "it is" or "it has", not an alternate spelling of "its".

* DarkerAndEdgier: Instead of the more simple Aesops they had in the early 1960s, which consisted of sharing and forgiveness, the 1970s episodes dealt with racism, parental loss, and death. Mind you, the 1970s series did often revisit the same Aesops dealt with the earlier episodes, but took them to a whole new level, for example, the Aesop of 1964's "Good Neighbor" was, you guessed it, loving your neighbor as yourself, and it followed a simple storyline of Davey sacrificing the chance of getting a free good neighbor balloon to help a lost little girl find her way home. But it's 1970s counterpart, "Who's George", has a man in Jonathan Reed's apartment building get severely ill, but everyone thinks he is just being lazy until Davey and Johnathan climb the fire escape and see that he’s on the verge of DEATH, and get him medical help in the nick of time. Wow, quite a step.
