* AdaptationNameChange: In the Walkyverse, Dina's surname was Sarazu. Here, it's Saruyama.

* AdaptationalFriendship: Becky and Joyce are childhood friends, instead of meeting well into adulthood like they do in the original ''Webcomic/{{Walkyverse}}''.
* AdaptationalHeroism:
** Penny is Jason's ex and a sarcastic TA. She doesn't murder his father and lead a string of brutal attacks that leave dozens dead. On the other hand, she's not exactly ethical, and is carrying on an affair with a student, Joe.
** While not a villain, Mike's character in the Webcomic/{{Walkyverse}} was to be the biggest asshole in the world. Here, he's still an asshole but most of his quips are less about hurting people for no reason and more about forcing them to [[https://www.dumbingofage.com/2015/comic/book-6/02-that-perfect-girl/profane/ acknowledge hypocrisies]], [[https://www.dumbingofage.com/2015/comic/book-5/02-threes-a-crowd/kidding-2/ point out hard truths]] or [[https://www.dumbingofage.com/2012/comic/book-3/01-if-the-shoes-split/putyouup/ engage in uncomfortable conversations]].
* AdaptationalRelationshipOverhaul: The characters in this comic don't share the same romantic relationships as their previous Walkyverse counterparts. They instead wind up with completely different partners.
* AdaptationalVillainy:
** Ryan may have been an asshole back in his only appearance in ''Roomies!'' Redux, but there him sleeping with Ruth was consensual. Here he's an attempted rapist.
** Blaine O'Malley. His appearance in DOA is much more direct than in ''Shortpacked'', his abuse is given more onscreen development, he kidnaps Danny to lure his daughter out, and his emotional abuse of his wife is upgraded to both emotional and physical. [[spoiler:And then he orchestrates the kidnapping of a good portion of the cast, murders Ross for disobeying orders, and then plans to kill his other conspirators, and potentially his hostages, to cover it up.]]
** Ross Macintyre. In ''Joyce & Walky'', while he looked down on the couple dancing and engaging in pre-marital sex, as well as Becky being friends with Joyce, the worst he ever did was voice these opinions. Here he's willing to do whatever he can to get his way, [[spoiler:[[https://www.dumbingofage.com/2015/comic/book-6/01-to-those-whod-ground-me/deceptress/ including bringing a gun to a college campus]]]].
** Clint. In his only appearance in ''Shortpacked'', he beat up a guy for complaining about G.I. Joe toys. Here, he's emotionally and verbally abusive towards Ruth, and willing to use the threat of abusing Howard as a way to keep her in line.
** Joyce's parents in ''It's Walky!'' were devoutly religious but otherwise very supportive, understanding and even clever in their own way, the only problem being her mother [[IWantGrandkids pressuring Joyce to have kids]]. Here they are hard-right [[TheFundamentalist Bible-thumpers]] who locked Joyce away in their bigoted Christian homeschool for most of her life, which rendered her emotionally stunted in the present.

*** Dorothy is faced with the prospect that her original goal in life of being the POTUS would require she make moral concessions she's not willing to make, something she is called out on by both Becky and Raidah. This causes her to suffer a full on IdentityBreakdown, resulting in her trying to inject herself into others lives, claiming it's to stop them from making a mistake when really it's thinly veiled self-interest, all for the sake of maintaining some level of control in her life, even going as far as to try and steal Walky back from Lucy after ''she'' was the one who pushed Walky into dating Lucy. Her treatment of Joyce in particular stands out, constantly infantilizing her and acting like Joyce is ''her'' responsibility, becoming territorial when Jennifer gives Joyce advice that actually ''succeeds'' where Dorothy failed, and tricks a visibly uncomfortable Joyce into masturbating for the first time in attempt to be a ShippingTorpedo for her new relationship with Joe, the entire time rationalizing it as "protecting" Joyce.

* AllGirlsWantBadBoys: In parallel storylines, Jennifer falls (on the rebound) for ReformedCriminal Asher, while Joyce starts dating Joe. However, Asher turns out to be rather less of a bad boy than he first appears, even having things in common with [[{{Geek}} Walky]], and Joe, in an attempt to be worthy of Joyce, cleans up a bit, combing his hair and having a shave. Both women clearly prefer the older, badder versions of the guys, at least when it comes to appearance, and while Joyce and Joe manage to keep the relationship strong overall, Jennifer and Asher's relationship starts getting rocky, to the point Jennifer would ''prefer'' Asher cheated on her so as to make things more exciting, and Asher actually considers responding to [[spoiler:Ethan's]] advances.

Added DiffLines:

** Following the {{timeskip}}, several characters have undergone this either due to lingering trauma surrounding [[spoiler:Mike's death]], or events that happened ''during'' the {{timeskip}}, in particular Halloween.
*** Jennifer has partly backslid into her AlphaBitch behavior from High School following [[spoiler:Ruth dumping her on Halloween out of the blue]], falling in with Raidah's group and letting her worst traits come out to the forefront. She's likewise severed ties with all of her old friend group sans Joyce, has ceased going by "Billie" in favor of her birth name, and acts behind a façade of maturity while bottling up resentment towards [[spoiler:Ruth for her [[CondescendingCompassion behavior]] and [[DidntThinkThisThrough reasoning]] for the break up]].
*** Joyce has embraced atheism as a result of the trauma brought upon by her former community and their fundamentalist beliefs, but with it comes a much more bitter and callous individual, not helped by having to deal with possible life changing details like needing glasses or being on the autism spectrum being thrown at her back to back. Her shift in attitude does little to endear her to her friends, but their attempts at trying to get her back to "normal" just ends up aggravating her and creates a much bigger rift.
*** [[spoiler:Ethan]] has had the most noticeable change in demeanor. In addition to losing muscle mass and not taking care of himself physically, he's much more jaded, dismissive, and overall self-destructive, all related to now suffering from depression over [[spoiler:Mike's death]]. This is especially noticeable when he begins flirting with Asher, who had already made clear he was in a relationship with Jennifer, making clear he just doesn't really ''care'' anymore and would rather just seduce Asher.

** Also lampshaded in the AltText: Walky saying that "[[https://www.dumbingofage.com/2016/comic/book-6/03-when-god-closes-the-door/super-human/ bein' superhuman'd be a bummer]]".
** In early 2017, Leslie's apartment is shown to have a ''Star Wars: The Force Awakens'' poster hanging in it. ''Shortpacked'' established Leslie as being a ''Star Wars'' fan. Specifically, the poster is of General Leia. Back in ''Shortpacked'', Leslie told Robin that it was watching ''Return of the Jedi'' and seeing Leia in the slave bikini that helped her realize she was gay.
** Joyce spends one storyline convinced -- on the basis of zero evidence -- that having Fuckface the iguana sitting on her head compels people to do what she wants. Sydney Yus believed the same thing in ''Shortpacked'', and in that continuity, may even have been right.

** Walky's [[https://www.dumbingofage.com/2021/comic/book-11/03-see-you-in-the-funny-page/geniuscartoondrawingperson/ idea]] for a comic strip is ''[[https://www.dumbingofage.com/2010/blog/lawsome/ LAWsome]]'', a strip Willis created starring Mike and Bart O'Ryan.
** Joyce's [[https://www.dumbingofage.com/2021/comic/book-11/03-see-you-in-the-funny-page/prequel/ idea]] is a college prequel to her space opera stories, which is basically ''Roomies!''/this very strip in relation to ''It's Walky''. (Strictly speaking, "Space Captain Julia Gray" is equivalent to Willis's ''very'' old Danny, Joe and Ultra-Car stories, which inspired many elements of the Walkyverse when it went sci fi, but the analogy still holds.)
*** Her [[https://www.dumbingofage.com/2021/comic/book-11/03-see-you-in-the-funny-page/betty/ first strip]] is directly based on the [[https://www.itswalky.com/comic/and-now/ first strip]] of ''Roomies,'' right down to the first word balloon extending past the panel's right edge. The strip is [[https://www.dumbingofage.com/2022/comic/book-12/04-dont-stop-billie-ving/toog/ later named]] as ''Roommates!!!''
*** A Patreon bonus strip is based on [[https://www.itswalky.com/comic/i-hate-math/ Walkyverse Joyce's first appearance]], complete with the Danny character wearing a shirt with a psi on it (but also Dumbingverse Danny's hat). In keeping with their Dumbingverse non-relationship, the main difference is that Julia doesn't react to him in any way, and later tells Doris she vaguely remembers seeing a hat.
*** Another Patreon strip riffs on a ''Roomies'' strip in which Danny ignores Joe's GirlOfTheWeek, with Julia ignoring Doris claiming that a character based on Walky is going to be her Vice-President.
*** And one more doesn't riff on a specific strip, but does give Dina's counterpart, Cerie, Walkyverse Dina's hat.
*** When Joyce is planning the strip, she at one point considers that, since she needs some kind of conflict between Julia and Doris, maybe Doris ReallyGetsAround and Julia disapproves. The subtle mythology gag there is that, while Doris is based on Dorothy, her role in the strip is actually equivalent to ''Joe'''s role in ''Roomies!''
** Lyle's [[https://www.dumbingofage.com/2022/comic/book-13/02-turning-saints-into-the-sea/defiling/ first appearance]] is pretty much an exact redo of his [[https://www.shortpacked.com/comic/lyle first appearance]] in ''Shortpacked!''
** Anti-Joyce gets referenced again when [[https://www.dumbingofage.com/2023/comic/book-13/03-joementum/hussification/ Joyce attributes her sexual thoughts to her in order to process them]], which is pretty much exactly how Walkyverse Anti-Joyce worked, only not as a metaphor.

** Amber and Mike's ''Shortpacked!'' relationship is referenced in [[https://www.dumbingofage.com/2014/comic/book-4/04-the-whiteboard-dong-bandit/interrogation/ this strip]], with a LampshadeHanging in the AltText.
** The irony in Mary's [[https://www.dumbingofage.com/2015/comic/book-5/03-the-butterflies-fly-away/joke/ snide comment]] was lampshaded in the AltText.
** [[https://www.dumbingofage.com/2015/comic/book-6/01-to-those-whod-ground-me/wheel/ A redheaded character is in car that's out of control, with a truck speeding towards it]]. Just to drive it home, the character tags claim this is "definitely that same truck driver dude as in ''Roomies!''"
** When Joyce suggests [[https://www.dumbingofage.com/2016/comic/book-6/03-when-god-closes-the-door/replaced/ borrowing the car without asking her parents]], Becky thinks she's been replaced by "[[https://www.itswalky.com/comic/woah-there/ some sorta Anti-Joyce]]".
** Lucy has [[https://www.dumbingofage.com/2019/comic/book-9-comic/03-sometimes-the-sky-was-so-far-away/fog/ a poster]] of the ''WesternAnimation/TeenTitansGo'' version of Starfire. Her introduction in ''Shortpacked'' was as a representative of the demographic who loved the ''WesternAnimation/TeenTitans'' cartoon, bought ''Comicbook/RedHoodAndTheOutlaws'' because they were told "Comicbook/TheNew52 is a great jumping on point and it's got Starfire in it" and were ... not impressed.
** "Is A Song Forever?", the last portion of Book 10, is named after one of the last chapters of ''Roomies!'' proper.
** Dina has [[https://www.dumbingofage.com/2020/comic/book-11/02-look-straight-ahead/gestalt/ strong opinions]] on which cereals may be combined based on their milk absorbtion, specificaly referencing Cap'n Crunch. This is a sideways reference to the "Soggies may rule" finale of ''Shortpacked'' [[spoiler:in which Walkyverse Dina made an unexpected return]].
MythologyGag: Has [[MythologyGag/DumbingOfAge its own subpage]].

* CapePunk: Amber's double identity as Amazi-Girl is portrayed in a much more gritty, realistic manner. On one hand, she is well-meaning and does a decent job of being a real-life superhero at the university. On the other hand, Amazi-Girl is more of an outlet for Amber's internalized aggression due to her horrific upbringing and has devolved into an increasingly unhinged SplitPersonality.
