After Jack evicted Dr. Krieger from Jacutan Peninsula, Krieger and Crowe's mercenary army (actually a small cell of Hoyt's Privateers) move to take over the area, along with the neighboring islands. One of those islands happens to be inhabited by the Rakyat, who push back against the Privateer raids with increasing ferocity under their chieftain, Semeru (from ''Evolution''). Once Jack kills Semeru as well, Citra becomes his successor as the Rakyat chief, and continues the feud with the Privateers, which brings us to the state of affairs we see on the Rook Islands today. Nice job, Jack.

[[wMG: The tourist company was in on Vaas capturing people.]]
If the pilot was a local they would ''know'' to avoid letting people skydive near a known pirate "owned" island chain, so I figure at the very least the pilot was in on it, probably getting a cut of the ransom, and in the intro you see a LOT more possible tourists being captured and executed, perhaps it is a crime econemy, rich tourists come to this tropical paradise, and the tourism companys take them to the Rook Islands and "accidentally" run into Vaas and his crew, the people get captured, their stuff is taken, and they are ransomed, even if they are executed generally rich tourist have a lot of nice stuff on them, and judging by the amount of suitcases you see, they get a lot out of it, ransom or no.

The game gives us plenty of clues how Jason is turning into another Vaas, and that once, Vaas used to be like Jason. Whatever Vaas stabbed Jason with, Jason sees it as the knife because he comes to that realization as well, which explains while walking to their final confrontation why their images are intercut with each other and he hears Vaas' voice saying, "You are me, and I am you". Citra does say Vaas abandoned his birthright, most likely as the Warrior. As someone definitely more familiar with the Rakyat culture, Vaas probably knew what [[BrotherSisterIncest details]] that [[OutWithABang would entail]] and left before he ever received the tatau. She says Hoyt lured him away with drugs, but what exactly is she doing to Jason? Citra keeps Jason in the dark about her final plans and has him tied up during the ending, so unlike Vaas, Jason can't escape.

He has a lot of the traits common with BPD: sudden intense mood swings, violent 'tendencies', and drug addiction, to name a few.

Assuming that this game does take place in the same universe as the AssassinsCreed games do, then by the end of the game, assuming you pick the ending where you save Liza and the others, then Jason has spent the past several days, (weeks even?) in the jungle killing people, growing extremely desensitized to it and even getting a rush off of it. If it is at all possible for Jason to recovery psychologically, then that will be a long and arduous road. But at the same time, there's also the fact that he has become skilled with various forms of weaponry, particularly blades. He's snuck up behind people, come down from above onto them, and overall has become a lethal jungle warrior. If he can't get rid of all that inner rage and bloodlust, then maybe he could at least channel it into something productive under the guidance of the Assassins.

* I always assumed that the scene with Vaas looking back up at you was symbolic, to say that he is still alive within you, and that you hav essentially become the new Vaas.

* This would also explain why Vaas doesn't appear to die-much like the doubts many Changelings deal with, Vaas is another Gentry and 'killing' him may just be another illusion perpetuated by the island. Also makes the Good Ending way more awesome: He's not just leaving the island, he's leaving Arcadia itself.

* Indeed, it isn't so much as Jason just plain hallucinating Vaas' death, as it is Vaas DELIBERATELY causing Jason to hallucinate his death. But why would the LaughablyEvil, AxCrazy Pirate Leader decide to FakeTheDead when Jason was looking for a final showdown? Because Vaas finally took his own advice: Insanity IS doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results. In a case of FridgeBrilliance, this applied to both Jason and Vaas equally, as they kept trying to kill each other ComicStrip/SpyVsSpy style, kept failing to put the other in the ground, and kept expecting that they'd get a different result if they kept trying to kill each other. Vaas finally realized the only way to break the cycle was if one of them died, [[HypocriticalHumor but since he isn't crazy enough to willingly die]], he plugged Jason with some hard drugs, [[ScrewThisImOuttaHere and got the hell off the Rook Islands]]. The reason [[CainAndAbel Citra]] and [[BiggerBad Volker]] say he's dead is because they only have Jason's drugged-up story to go on, and since Vaas [[NeverFoundTheBody vanished without a trace]], they assumed [[DeathSeeker he finally got killed by the one man as crazy as he was]].

** I don't quite buy this. Vaas is canny, certainly, but I really don't see him as smart enough to fake his own death convincingly enough to fool everyone who'd want to be sure. One or two, maybe, but managing to fool Citra, Dennis, Hoyt and Willis along with all the Rakyat, privateers and his own men who'd want to be damn sure? I don't think so.

* Doesn't quite work for three reasons; 1. He has access to intel that would require off-island contacts to get, 2. He has a subordinate, Sam, working for him and 3. He crops up in the next game in the series as a CIA agent (though not having played 4 I can't say for sure how definitive that is). Also unlike Heck he's not obviously nuts. A little...odd certainly but by Rook Island standards he's positively normal.
