* CreatorBacklash: Amos fronted a synth-pop band called Y Kant Tori Read that released a single self-titled record in 1988. The record label stopped promoting it after two months, Tori had fired the entire band except for one member by the time the first video was shot, and Tori had, for a long time, [[CanonDiscontinuity acted like it never existed]], with good reason. She seems to have reconciled herself with the album, to the extent that she occasionally plays songs from the album live (particularly "Etienne" and "Cool on Your Island") and the album was ultimately reissued with her blessing in 2017. This may be an example of an artist reconciling with Old Shame.

* ApprovalOfGod: Music/Slayer liked Tori's cover of "Raining Blood" so much they sent her a box of T-shirts, though the arrangement was so different Kerry King admitted that it took him a minute to figure out where she was in the song.

** What would've happened if ''Y Kant Tori Read'' became successful?

** ''To Venus And Back'' was always going to be a DistinctDoubleAlbum with one disc being live, but originally the studio disc would have been a BSide collection with just a few new songs - the new songs Tori was working on were more electronic-based and didn't seem to mesh well with the b-sides, so disc one became all new songs.

* CreatorBreakdown - ''Boys for Pele'' was the result of a bad breakup, ''from the choirgirl hotel'' was the result of her miscarriage(s), and ''Ocean to Ocean'' was the result of both the death of her mother and the UsefulNotes/COVID19Pandemic. As for individual songs, "Me and a Gun" from ''Music/LittleEarthquakes'' is about her rape[[note]]She was inspired to write it after seeing ''Film/ThelmaAndLouise''[[/note]], "Toast" was the result bof her brother's death, and "1000 Oceans" was written after her husband's father died.

Old Shame is now an In Universe only trope. Out Of Universe example goes to Creator Backlash and that trope requires a source that the author expresses regret of their past work.

* OldShame - She fronted a synth-pop band called Y Kant Tori Read (also featuring Cult/GNR/Velvet Revolver drummer Matt Sorum) that released a single self-titled record in 1988. The record label stopped promoting it after two months, Tori had fired the entire band except one member by the time the first video was shot, and Tori has [[CanonDiscontinuity acted like it never existed]], with good reason.
** While many artists' pre-fame work is rereleased to capitalize on their later success, all of Y Kant Tori Read's work has remained out of print since Atlantic deleted it shortly after its release. This is because when Amos reached success with ''Music/LittleEarthquakes'', she demanded that no Y Kant Tori Read material be rereleased; Atlantic honored the demand until Amos made peace with the album, allowing a reissue to sneak out around the same time she released ''Native Invader'' in 2017. She occasionally plays the Y Kant Tori Read songs "Etienne" and "Cool on Your Island" live, and the album and the music video for "The Big Picture" (Featuring a scantily-clad Amos with [[TheEighties terrible 80s hair]]) have made it onto the internet.
** Oh, let's not forget that '''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6iZ8ys-utfs cereal commercial]]''' she did back in the 80's, when [[IWasYoungAndNeededTheMoney she was young and needed the money.]]
