* IronicallyDisabledArtist: Nathan, who can't feel anything, is revealed to enjoy decoupage. Though he tells Audrey he's into because of the colors, the fact the writers chose an art style that invovles a lot of texture seems to indicate it's supposed to be ironic. That and a chance for Audrey to poke fun at "decoupage" being an InherentlyFunnyWord.

* ContagiousHeroism: Duke, who starts out with a strict rule that he "doesn't talk to cops" but becomes so enmeshed with Nathan and Audrey that Jennifer asks if he's an auxiliary officer when Nathan delegates tasks to him. It takes a dark turn in later seasons, however, as Duke loses his brother, his LoveInterest, and eventually his own life as a result of helping Nathan and Audrey with the Troubles, and he finds he can't leave because TheCallKnowsWhereYouLive.

However, in between seasons 3 and 4, when Nathan is being hunted by Haven's vigilante paramilitary group, and thus needs to stay below the radar, he earns cash by letting bikers punch him in the face. Since Nathan's Trouble is that he can't feel anything, his nonplussed reaction amazes the bikers, and when Duke finds him, he has a line of people waiting.

* PoorCommunicationKills: A good portion of all the drama could have been avoided by people just tried talking to each other reasonably. Partially Justified by the circumstances, but there are several moments where the obsession with keeping secrets just results in making things worse. This is especially true for a great deal of the interpersonal drama between characters.

* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome: The show runs off the question "What would happen if you woke up tomorrow with superpowers?" and the answer is: not realize it, notice weird things are going on but not realizing it's you, deny it's you when told because that sounds outrageous, panic at the dawning realization that it is you (which makes it worse), and then have to learn to control it while living with the knowledge that your PowerIncontinence has hurt/killed people. Rinse and repeat for five seasons.
* JustForFun/SurprisinglySimilarStories: Shares quite a few seemingly unintentional similarities with Series/OnceUponATime, which ran concurrently and both involve a young, blonde, female protagonist who grew up in foster care and who works in law enforcement in Boston finding out she is the ChosenOne meant to end an evil curse in a small town in Maine, where the curse does not affect her and she learns she is not from this world at all. Interestingly, they're also both Adaptation Expansions, Haven of a Stephen King novella, and Once Upon a Time of the Disney canon.

Upon hearing Nathan's story, Tommy mentions that he's seen what this job does to cops and how they deal with it. An Invoked Trope requires the character(s) to set up a trope in-universe, if that's what you're not getting at. I also removed an unneeded space and Word Cruft.
