To this end, he has absolutely no qualms about manipulating those who trust him into doing exactly what he deems is required and has been doing so for hundreds of years. In fact, he's so good at it that no one really picks up on it until quite a long way into the plot when the various coincidences begin to pile up and it becomes clear that everyone is Strange's pawn. Even then, they can't go against what he says, because it tends to go badly when that happens.
