* ''Anime/TheCastleOfCagliostro'' opens with Lupin and Jigen robbing a Monte Carlo casino, only to throw it out onto the highway after they realize every bill they've stolen is counterfeit. It's implied by Jigen that they are still spendable but this is Lupin and Jigen we are talking about.
* In ''Literature/ACertainMagicalIndex'' and ''Manga/ACertainScientificRailgun'', Mikoto Misaka's signature Railgun attack has her use her electrical powers to propel a coin at several times the speed of sound. Of course, she can use anything made of metal for this, but coins are convenient.
** Some close-ups show she's not actually using coins but game arcade tokens which she buys by the bucket load. Presumably the bulk discount means that its cheaper than using an equivalent number of coins.
