Although that alternate definition is in wide usage, it is not considered correct, nor is it at all consistent with the long-form "non-laconic" description. It's not about whether the author was "justified" in using an otherwise "bad" trope, it's about whether a trope that usually defies logic is given a logical in-universe explanation. Removing the second definition, and completely rewording the first to be more clear
