** When you first cross the bridge, shortly before being separated from Yorda, you can look back and down and see the hanging cages. The one Ico lands on is hanging from the last steps before the bridge. So, the bridge was almost completely retracted before Yorda has to let go. I do think they cheated by not showing it during the falling scene. I also agree that this particular drop was longer than many others that cause Ico to die.

For that matter when you're on that cage looking up, its cable is attached to rock set farther back from the end of the bridge than when seen from the top. Well, maybe it was very windy. I also agree that this particular drop was longer than many others that cause Ico to die.
