* What do people get out of "See You Again"? To me, it's a monstrous ClicheStorm that says nothing new and is outright boring to listen to.
** Well, obviously, people feel different ways about different things than you do, now ''don't they''? It isn't all about what ''you'' like. People can like things you don't! I know, what a shocking revelation!

**** Most likely he's hiding in the very public bar with lots of witnesses, hiding from his abusively batshit crazy girlfriend.

* Does anyone think that the titular "Cowboy Casanova" in the music video doesn't look like either a cowboy or a Casanova?

** That probably had a lot to do with MoralGuardians. It seems unlikely that they could get away with showing him actually take a swing at her. They tried to heavily imply that he was abusive (the slamming doors, tearing up the kitchen, and grabbing her arm,) but I agree it wasn't handled well.

* Is it just me, or did the music video for "Blown Away" make the father more sympathetic than the daughter? I mean, there's absolutely nothing (besides the song itself) to indicate that he was abusive toward her. He seemed more self-loathing than anything else.

* Why is it Carrie Underwood is nothing more than a clone of Kelly Clarkson with an acoustic guitar?
** If you copy what is successful then you will also be successful. No two people are exactly alike (usually), but the formula for success can be. The reason people don't call her out for this is because she has a different name and face. Plus, they both came from the same show.
* How the hell did Simon predict her success? What was he going by?
** Years of experience in the music industry, managing talented artists would likely give you an eye for talent.
*** Talented artists?? He managed the SPICE GIRLS. Here's the thing: all of the Idols are talented, Carrie can sing, yes, but she wasn't the MOST talented. What was it about Carrie that was ~different~? How did he predict her success (and don't say talent, because talent and success have nothing to do with each other, that's clear from looking at who's successful). Is it that she's very good looking?
**** Because it was his professional judgement, as it's his ''job'' to spot the diamonds in the rough. This question seems more like it should belong in AmericanIdol. And the Spice Girls were ''huge'' and successful when they were still together.
***** Yes, but they were huge because of their GIMMICK, not their talent. The spice girls couldn't actually sing or dance to save their lives. Which is proof that it isn't talent that makes one huge. So what was it about Carrie that Simon thought would make her huge?
***** It's not an exact science. People don't necessarily buy music because the singers are the best or because the musicians are the most technically proficient. People buy music because the artist or the music by the artist is appealing. Simon probably has a good eye for marketability of the people he produces/promotes. And, they may not even be the ones with the most market appeal, but the ones he chooses are the ones he thinks he will have success with.
****** Marketability...so it was her looks? I don't get that cause she isn't the prettiest either.
****** Not just looks, but the whole thing: who she looks, sounds, performs, how she presents herself, how the audience reacts to her, the songs she chooses, her personality, and more.

** How many schools have girls football teams?

* It's also a country song and taken from the view point of a man from the older generation. The 'sexism' is dropped once it moves to her and her boyfriend. A lot of fathers, especially in the more conservative South, keep to traditional gender roles, for better or worse. While it's true, there's a hint of sexism to the father's expectations, it's also about letting those expectations go to love what you have right now. It's not saying that 'only boys can fish', it's a man thinking, "I want a boy to go fishing with," then being thrilled when he doesn't get it because he gets a beautiful daughter.

The ''instant'' he realizes the baby is a girl, all of those dreams are completely dropped. Because girls can't fish with their dads or make said dads proud by playing sports, amiright? They gotta make their families proud by marrying the football captain straight out of college (because, also, it's totally a good thing for said football star to abandon his college dreams for this girl later. Uh-uh.)
** A song about a dad who's briefly disappointed because he wanted a son. And then the girl grows up and marries a man. That's sexism?
