The classic B-movie ''Film/Plan9FromOuterSpace'' is first referenced and then later watched by a character in the film. According to Wiki/TheOtherWiki, this is an intentional reference to the fact that the plot of this film is itself similar to ''Plan 9''. * AbusivePrecursors: Averted. Alien scientists did create the brain slugs, but they never meant for them to cause harm. The alien who sends the capsule to Earth is zombified itself, although this only becomes clear to the audience after the brain slugs' influence on humans is shown. [[spoiler: In the end, the aliens track the slugs down and get ready to purge them all.]]

* AbusivePrecursors: Averted. Though the brain slugs were escapees from alien scientists who created/harvested them, it's quite clear if you pay attention at the opening that they tried to stop it; the alien who sends the capsule to Earth is clearly zombified itself. [[spoiler: To say nothing of how the true ending has them finally track them down and get ready to purge them all.]]
