* ReplacementGoldfish: Harry and Hermione seem to work under the assumption that a child born to Tonks and Lupin in the new timeline will be the same person as the Teddy Lupin they leave in the old timeline, despite being born under completely different circumstances into a [[ForWantOfANail completely different world]].
* RevengeFic: Once Harry and Hermione go back in time, they take revenge on anyone the author doesn't like--the Weasleys, Snape, Dumbledore, Umbridge--the list goes on and on.

* SanitySlippage: Watching Harry continually humiliate him, resist his plans and destroy his reputation has this effect on Dumbledore. [[spoiler: His sanity starts to slip following Voldemort's defeat, when he declares that Harry must have been possessed by Voldemort, and tries to kill him. By the end of the story, his mental state has deteriorated to the point that he's seeing a baby Fawkes that isn't there.]]

* ClusterFBomb: See ObligatorySwearing: the fic might as well be called ''In This Shit and the Fuck'' with how frequently those words crop up.

* ForWantOfANail: After Harry and Hermione are sent back in time to the beginning of their first year at Hogwarts with information and magical ability from the future, the ensuing slew of changes results in [[spoiler:Voldemort being defeated (and Dumbledore's reputation getting destroyed) within two months]].

''[[https://www.fanfiction.net/s/5627314/1/In-this-World-and-the-Next In This World and the Next]]'' is a ''Literature/HarryPotter'' PeggySue fic in which Harry and Hermione, having been sentenced to the Dementor’s Kiss for killing [[RonTheDeathEater Evil!Ron]], instead find themselves propelled back to the beginning of the [[Literature/HarryPotterAndThePhilosophersStone first novel]]. HilarityEnsues.

* DarkerAndEdgier: The very premise mandates this.

* DirtyCoward: Ron, according to Hermione and the Sorting Hat. However, see InformedFlaw.
* DisproportionateRetribution: Though Ron’s sudden seizure of the VillainBall and rape of Hermione is, indeed, despicable, what Harry and Hermione do to Ron and the entire Weasley family in the new timeline is by far worse. First, Harry gets Molly arrested at King’s Cross for trying to help him find Platform 9 3/4, proceeds to attack her and her family when she walks into the Great Hall (because he assumes she was going to attack him despite being unarmed), and then, to ice the cake, proceeds to [[spoiler:''force the entire Weasley family into destitution'' by suing them for damages]], which [[KangarooCourt the court upholds]]. This despite the fact that, in this story’s canon, Harry is the scion of House Potter (this being a "Noble and Most Ancient House of Potter" fic, classism is inevitable) and him being worth more than the entire family hundreds of times over in canon. As a result of Harry’s actions, [[spoiler:Arthur and Bill lose their jobs (because, for some reason, the goblins of Gringotts Bank now care about wizarding politics despite being disinterested and aloof in canon) and the whole family (save Charlie) becomes homeless due to Harry seizing the house so he can tear it down and put up a generic [=McMansion=]]].
* DistressBall: Hermione picks it up when being overpowered and raped.

* FacingTheBulletsOneLiner: Hermione insults Ron one last time by saying to the Dementor, "C’mon big guy, I’ve been kissed by Ron Weasley so this should actually seem pleasant!" This is the first (and only) indication we get of [[{{Chickification}} her canonical badassery]], aside from her apparently forgetting that in the book, ''she'' kisses ''Ron''.

* ForWantOfANail: When they arrive in the past, Harry accuses Molly of abducting him at King’s Cross Station. One thing leads to another, and eventually [[spoiler:Voldemort is defeated (and Dumbledore’s reputation is destroyed) within two months.]] On the other hand, this is less due to the butterfly effect and more to do with the fact that Harry and Hermione have information and magical ability from the future.
** InSpiteOfANail: Nevertheless, Harry seems convinced that Teddy Lupin can be born in the new timeline. Considering that Tonks and Lupin get married years before they do in canon, after the defeat of Voldemort, and both of them survive, it’s clear that any child they have will ''not'' in any way be the Teddy that Harry leaves behind in the old timeline.
* GenderBender: The consequence of [[spoiler:Ron’s GroinAttack]].

* {{Gorn}}: Ron’s death scene. See HalfTheManHeUsedToBe.
* GratuitousRape: As a motivator for Harry and Hermione to kill Ron, it could really have been replaced by any other villainous act.
* GroinAttack: Happens to Ron (repeatedly) in the new timeline.

* JustPlaneWrong: No, jumbo jets do not fly at fifty thousand feet. This is the least of the story’s flaws, though.

* MadeOfExplodium: Dementors, apparently.

* MixedMetaphor: Inevitable when you’ve got an author who’s fond of both metaphors and run-on sentences. The scene where Lord Potter springs the rat trap in the snake’s den led one reviewer to reference Music/MitchBenn’s "Devil and a Hard Place".

* ProtagonistCentredMorality: Absolutely everything. Not only is pureblood supremacy presented as being as evil as it is in canon, characters who aren’t pureblood supremacists in the books are in the fic for no reason but to show us [[PoliticallyIncorrectVillain how evil they are]]. However, Harry loves nothing more than exercising his privileges as "Lord Potter" and demanding that everyone address him as such. So claiming you’re better than other people because of the circumstances of your birth is bad, [[BrokenAesop except when it isn’t]]. Admittedly, using aristocratic precedence to get yourself preferential treatment socially is still a far cry from using it to violate civil rights and get away with murder[[note]]Harry does commit murder, just not in public.[[/note]] so Harry can at least still claim ''[[BlackAndGreyMorality some]]'' moral high ground.

* AllAbusersAreMale: Implied by the suggestion that [[spoiler:making Ron female will stop him from becoming the rapist he is in the original timeline]].

* ArtisticLicenseMedicine: No, you can't change somebody’s gender identity with a GroinAttack.
** Although, to be fair, this could be a case of ScienceMarchesOn, that is, from 1991, when the story is set. [[https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Reimer There was an actual case where doctors performed a sex change on a boy whose genitals had been damaged]]; until the truth came out in the mid-1990s, the medical literature was full of accounts about how well this worked and what it "proved" about the flexibility of gender. It should be noted that we only have the healer’s word (which, again, reflected then-currently accepted science) as to [[spoiler:Ron]]’s prognosis and how well he will adjust; we never actually ''see'' how well he actually adjusts.

* EstablishingSeriesMoment: The second paragraph mentions what is implied (and later confirmed) to be “Ronald [[ObligatorySwearing Fucking]] Weasley” raping Hermione, while the third hastily and acrimoniously breaks up Harry and Ginny. Both of these say a great deal about how far the author is willing to go to set Harry and Hermione up together.
* ExactWords: Dumbledore asks Harry if he could “have a quick word” and Harry says “velocity”, an uncredited [[ShoutOut reference]] to a similar outburst by Scottish football manager (and legendary DeadpanSnarker) [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gordon_Strachan Gordon Strachan]] when he was faced with that question from a reporter.

* RunningGag: After Fudge [[TakeALevelInBadass actually decides to do his job]], people are kind of shocked. The general consensus is, “Wow. I may actually vote for the arse.” Even Fudge himself is surprised that actually doing a good job is a better election pitch than his ineffective past.

* ScunthorpeProblem: That the title’s initials contain a profanity[[note]]assuming “and” and “the” count in the initials; in acronyms, the former is often rendered as & and the latter is not always included[[/note]] has not been lost on reviewers, especially considering the [[ObligatorySwearing tone of the story’s dialogue]].

* ShowDontTell: Frequently averted, with lines such as “the love [Sirius] felt for this boy knew no bounds”, and Harry repeatedly telling Hermione [[{{Chickification}} what a smart and strong witch she is]].
