** Spence's Moby Grape bandmate Bob Mosley also ended up struggling with schizophrenia, and both of them struggled with homelessness over the years, with one of Moby Grape's reunions (one Spence did not participate in) being specifically intended to keep Mosley from being homeless once again. Ultimately, Bob's schizophrenia led to drummer Don Stevenson quitting the band due to Mosely believing Stevenson wanted to murder him. Unlike Spence, Mosely never ceased being active in the music scene.
