Trope was cut/disambiguated due to cleanup. Misuse.

* CatSmile: Due to the structure of his mouth; post-HeelFaceTurn, it makes him look kind of cute and hints at his peaceful, relaxed state of mind. When he was still a villain, however, it looked more like a cleft lip and made him look more threatening.

Little is known about the banana-shaped, Bozo-haired, mustachioed alien who goes by Dr. Screwball Jones. He is the only villain to make Wander turn serious and go into cape and mask hero mode. Why? His philosophy is the twisted reflection of Wander's. They both want the universe to be happy, but Screwball believes people can be made happy by force. His doctorate is an online [=Ph.D=] taped to the wall of his spaceship laptop and all, and he's quite serious (if he can be said to be serious about anything) about being referred to as ''Doctor'' Screwball Jones. He is also an incorrigible punster, so you shouldn't {{inc|rediblyLamePun}}orrige him; but Wander often does as it's banter-as-battle when the two of them get going.

Agreed to not count by the Hate Sink cleanup thread.

The Hero is a Definition-Only trope.

* TheHero: He is the main character and has done many heroic deeds by helping people everywhere in the galaxy. His feats are legendary, and people tell stories about him, as shown in "The Legend."

* TheHero: In the episode of the same name, which is subverted, he's actually the WrongGenreSavvy villain. The true hero is Wander.

* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: As tough as it may be to believe, Hater actually has a caring side for someone in his form his pet/minion, Captain Tim. It's to the point where Tim's disappearance in one episode leads to Hater sobbing and desperately trying to find him.

* FreudianExcuse: In the episode "The Black Cube", the Cube's life is shown to be very miserable. He lives in a run down apartment (which he barely afford rent to), his girlfriend broke up with him, he is mocked by street bullies for being different, he works as a measly cashier, and he is feared by everyone. This goes on until [[spoiler: Wander and Sylvia help improve his life.]]

Character reaction.

* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome: Seriously, Wander. Hater does '''not''' want to be your friend. You constantly bothering him and acting like he's your friend isn't going to make him magically befriend you. It'll just annoy him even more. He ultimately makes it clear in "My Fair Hatey."

* ContrastingSequelAntagonist: Unlike Hater, she's female, extremely competent, doesn't get easily distracted, has no interest in romance, finds dueling with others fun rather than obnoxious, and rather than simply wanting to conquer the universe, she plans to go from galaxy-to-galaxy, stripping each one completely of Volcanium until they're all dead.
* ContrivedCoincidence: Her battle armor bares resemblance to Lord Hater, yet Dominator hails from another galaxy, and had no knowledge of Hater until "The Greater Hater".

Added DiffLines:

* NonActionProtagonist: The titular protagonist Wander is this, being an ActualPacifist LoveFreak who generally has his pacifism extend [[SuicidalPacifist to almost suicidal degrees of naivete]]. Despite this, he generally leaves any fighting to [[ActionGirl Sylvia]]; his magnetic charm and firm belief in redemption ends up turning over a great deal of people to his cause, and his cunning often peeks out from under the lazy idiot disguise. Being a BadassPacifist, he has a tendency to rely on his wit to get him out of scrapes.
** The episode "[[Recap/WanderOverYonderS2E4TheWandersTheAxe The Wanders]]" reveals more on this; it shows that Wander is a pacifist because of a specific key aspect of his personality -- a lonely, helpless, and frightened child, representing how helpless he was in his childhood himself, which is why he wants to help everyone. Without this aspect, Wander is a daring and heroic action-packed hero who seeks to vanquish evil, even Lord Hater.

* ArchEnemy: One sided on his end, and deconstructed. When we first meet him he's the most powerful villain in the galaxy, but his increasingly extreme fixation with destroying Wander (who isn't even actively trying to stop him most of the time) leads him lose focus on conquering, constantly humiliate himself and be supplanted by dozens of other villains. If he'd simply took the occasional defeat and largely ignored Wander like the other villains he would still be on top, but by the second season he's a laughingstock ''because'' he can't help but be Wander's archenemy, with barely an episode going by without someone pointing it out.

** He becomes more prominently this in season 2 wherein a good number of the season's episodes are ones that focus more on him, some of which don't even involve Wander and Sylvia at all. The main over-arching storyline of the season in fact places him in the protagonist role just as much as Wander in regards to Dominator being the season's BigBad.

* TheDreaded: He might be depicted in a comedic fashion for the most part, but a good deal of the galaxy is justifiably afraid of him. Wander and Sylvia only oppose him as often as they do because they fear him slightly less than the rest of the cosmos.

Wander and Sylvia only oppose him as often as they do because they fear him slightly less than the rest of the cosmos. However, this reputation has greatly diminished by the time of Season 2, both due to Dominator outshining him in every way and because his interactions and obsession with Wander keep humiliating him in front of everyone.

* GeniusDitz: Lacks common sense, impulse control and barely knows how to do the most basic thing on his own. However in "The New Toy" he not only single handily builds his H.A.T.E.R.V, but it also proves to be powerful enough to take out his entire army (once someone who knows what their doing gets behind the wheel that is).

Best exemplified in the finale, where [[spoiler:Hater tries to go back to conquering the galaxy immediately after saving it.
