* TooDumbToLive: Sometimes he showed this trait. To be fair, so did Kouji.

* AdaptationalAttractiveness: In the original manga, Dr. Kabuto had a more gravely looking appearance and is missing an eye. In the anime, he has a more normal appearance and has both of his eyes intact.

* AdaptationalAttractiveness: He looks like a distinguished and dignified older man in ''Violence Jack'', even actually attractive if you like older men, contrasting with his appearance in the main series, where he looks like an evil spirit with his long, wild, hair, angry looking eyes, purle skin, and yellow sclerae.

* MorallyAmbiguousDoctorate: He is an ObviouslyEvil MadScientist. To be fair, knowledge or science did not make him evil. In fact he devoted himself to learn Science because it helped him to keep himself sane. However, after his sanity finally slipped out due to too much abuse, he decided using his scientifical knwoledge to make everyone pay.

Koji Kabuto (Kabuto Kôji), also written as [[SpellMyNameWithAnS Kouji Kabuto]], is a fictional character featured in the works of manga artist Creator/GoNagai. He is the main character of the SuperRobot series ''Anime/MazingerZ'' and pilots the title robot. He reappears in the sequel ''Anime/GreatMazinger'' and helps battle the Mikene Empire. He also features in ''Anime/UFORoboGrendizer'' as Duke Fleed's friend and {{sidekick}}/TheLancer.

* TheHero

Juzo met Hell for first time when he and his fiancée Yumiko Shiozai were exchange students in a German college. Back then he thought Hell was a tad eccentric but not a bad person (until he tried to kill him and Yumiko) and even argued with him about his theories on Photon energy.

Years later, he met Hell again during an archaeological expedition to a Greek island named Bardos. Despite Hell's prior attempted murder of him (and being ObviouslyEvil), he was apparently willing to put the past behind him... until Hell stumbled upon an army of giant robots in the depths of the island and nearly got him killed again.

A colleague of Dr. Kabuto, born in Germany in 1902. He was an unwanted child, a fact his mother reminded him of constantly. Scorned and beaten by his parents, he found shelter in books, and became very smart... which caused him to be accused of cheating by his teachers and bullied by his classmates.

In college he did not fare much better. People ignored him and he convinced himself that all of them envied him. Back then he met Juzo Kabuto (Kouji's grandfather) and fell in love with a Japanese exchange student, Yumiko. He thought she returned his feelings, but when he found out that she and Juzo were a couple, Hell-- who was already unstable and was convinced that everybody was envious of him or out to get him-- flipped out completely, convinced himself they only pretended to be his friends to hurt him and attempted to kill both of them. After that incident people began to stay away from him, and he suffered more humiliations and beatings (even when he tried to be nice) and he vowed to himself that in the future he would make them pay.

During the rise of Hitler, he got seduced by the idea of taking over the world and forcing everybody to kneel before him. He secretly built several Doomsday devices for Hitler (but he kept most of his technologic breakthroughs for himself) and performed human experiments with Jews in Auschwitz. When Germany was defeated, he ran away and kept a low profile for a while.

Several years later he ran into (now Doctor) Juzo Kabuto and accompanied him on an archaeological expedition to the Greek island of Bardos, where ruins of the ancient Mikenese Empire were found. There they discovered that the ancient Mikenese civilization had the technology to build giant robotic warriors. Hell killed everyone in the expedition except Kabuto, stole the technology and used it to create an [[{{Robeast}} army of fighting machines with which he planned]] to TakeOverTheWorld.

* {{Expy}}: Of [[Series/{{Kikaider}} Professor Gill]].

* FromNobodyToNightmare: Dr. Hell was born to a poor family, psychologically and physically abused by his mother, berated by his teachers and bullied by his classmates. Forty years later he was designing {{Doomsday Device}}s for Hitler and experimenting with human beings in Austchwitz. Thirty years later he was trying to TakeOverTheWorld and enslave humankind with an army of HumongousMecha. [[spoiler:And in ''Anime/GreatMazinger'' he was handed over the command of the entire army of Mykene Empire.]]
** His tragic backstory is completely retconned in the Mazinkaiser manga, where he is revealed to be [[spoiler:a clone of Juzo Kabuto, who Juzo created to help him with his research, but eventually became power hungry and chose the way of evil]]. This also means that Dr. Hell was always evil from the start, thus omitting any redeeming or sympathetic qualities he had.

* PerpetualFrowner: He has mostly three default expressions: angry, worried and disappointed/frustrated. He seldom smiles (fortunately, since when he actually does so, it is a very creepy SlasherSmile).

* {{Yandere}}: You would only know if you read the {{Backstory}} published in the GosakuOta chapters, but Dr. Hell was one when he was young. During his college days he fell in love with a woman named Yumiko [[spoiler:who would become TheHero Kouji's grandmother,]] and he showed all symptoms: he was psychologically unstable, he stalked her obsessively (in his own words, he became her shadow), he tried to seem nice and [[BlatantLies totally not a pervert]], and when he found out that she was engaged with someone else, he flipped out completely and attempted to MurderTheHypotenuse in a very ''discreet'' way: storming in the campus with a rifle and yelling "DIE, Kabuto!".

Archduke Gorgon (Gorgon Taikou) was a Mykene and a loyal servant of [[Anime/GreatMazinger the]] [[BigBad Emperor of Darkness]], ruler of all Mykene. He reported to the Great General of Darkness, even though he was under the command of Minister Argos, chief of Intelligence. A bizarre, cybernetic being, his upper half was a blue-skinned, muscled, bearded man in Romanesque armor and his lower half was a huge, long-fanged tiger.

Shortly after Dr. Hell murdered his colleagues, Gorgon showed up, accusing him (and rightly so) of stealing Mykene's technology and demanding that he forfeit the robots he had stolen. Hell was able to calm him down by striking a bargain with him: he would use Mykene's technology to take over the world but if he had troubles, he would ask Gorgon for help.

* WrongGenreSavvy: [[CoDragons Baron Ashura and Count Brocken]] hated each other. Dr. Hell thought it would be a good thing, since they would surely try to destroy Mazinger-Z harder to upstage each other. He also thought he and his troops were a FiveManBand instead of a FiveManBand.

* DeconstructiveParody: Boss Borot is this towards the GlassCannon archetype...[[DeconReconSwitch until it isn't]]...

* WhatMeasureIsAMook: Subverted. While a good majority of Mechanical Beasts are treated as mindless monsters hellbent on destroying anything at the behest of Dr. Hell and his cohorts, the ones that are capable of higher level thinking and possess personalities are all treated with varying degrees of sympathy, such as Spartan K5, which is smart enough to have a personality, and is a GentleGiant who usually only attacks in self-defense, and only with non-lethal force at that, leaving Kouji to let it literally just peacefully lie around due to it's harmless nature, and it going on a rampage due to being driven berserk by Dr. Hell and Baron Ashura is treated as a tragedy due to pretty much everybody acknowledging how benevolent it was. * PronounTrouble: A meta -and hilarious- example. Fans are divided about what pronoum using to refer to him/her/them/it, which isn't helped by how use their title, "Baron" is a masculine one, which makes their gender and gender identity even more confusing and contradictory.

* DubNameChange: Baron Ashura was renamed Devleen in Tranzor Z. And Baron Ashler in the Spanish dubbing.

* IronicBirthday In ''Anime/{{Mazinkaiser}}'', Baron Ashura infiltrates the Photon Power Laboratory [[LatexPerfection disguised as Professor Yumi]], and walks in on Dr. Yumi's surprise birthday party. To make matters worse, all the presents remind him of Baron Ashura, including a [[DartboardOfHate Baron Ashura-themed dartboard]]. He/she dashes out, [[MostDefinitelyNotAVillain screaming that he/she is, in fact, Professor Yumi]].

* MightMakesRight: His/her life philosophy. The strong defeats, dominates and exploits the weak. That is how the world always did, does and will work, and "good", "bad", "peace", "justice"... are meaningless, empty words human beings came up with because they are too coward to accept reality and too weak to protect themselves.
* MistreatmentInducedBetrayal: He was mostly loyal to Dr. Hell. However, Hell felt that [[AvertedTrope he was above of]] [[YouHaveFailedMe executing his subordinates]] but not of punishing their failures with strikes, insults or torture. Due to this sometimes he got fed up with being mistreated and mocked and he disobeyed orders or acted on his/her own (the final time was when he [[spoiler:stole the fortress Ghoul to make a kamikaze attack on the [[HomeBase Institute]]]] in order to show all, Dr. Hell and his enemies, who he was. In the GosakuOta alternate manga, he went a step beyond that and he decided betraying Dr. Hell and TakeOverTheWorld on his/her own because he was "sick of that crazy old man and [[CoDragons that headless idiot (Count Brocken)]] always mocking him" and he intended to give them a lesson to everyone.

* PrimaryColorChampion: It has blue forearms and boots, as well as a blue face, with yellow eyes and spikes, as well as a red chestplate, and the Pilder itself also has a red colorscheme.

* CastingGag: [[Creator/MikePollock One of his english voice actors]] is best known for playing another [[VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog mad scientist who wants to conquer the world with an army of robots ]].

* {{Irony}}: Jenova M9's gimmick is that its a sniper, quite possibly one of ''the'' most pragmatic fighting styles in the world, but it has a strong sense of honor and refuses to attack a fleeing opponent or anything it deems to be weaker than it, and in fact turns on Dr. Hell when it's pressured into doing so anyway.
* ItCanThink: Excluding the ones that are able to speak and talk, some of the Mechanical Beasts display signs of intelligence and even personality, such as Jenova M9, who has a sense of honor and fights strategically like a person would, as it uses it's rifle to snipe at enemies when at a distance and changes it's rifle into a pistol when in close combat, or Spartan K5, who has a non-violent personality and only attacks, in self-defense, and non-lethally at that.

* ThemeNaming: Pretty much all of them have a letter from the roman alphabet or, in some cases, a greek letter, followed by a random single-digit number after their name, although there are some exceptions, such as Satan Claus P10, [=KingDan=] X10, as well as Groizer X10, X11, and X12.

* WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds: Spartan K5. It is intelligent as a human is, as well as being a peaceful GentleGiant that only attacks in self defense, and even then, it tries to avoid destroying it's enemies, and it wound up being provoked into going into a rampage by Dr. Hell and Baron Ashura and had to be put down by Koji Kabuto, who actually sympathized with it because of it's human-level intelligence and otherwise gentle nature.

* AmbiguouslyHuman: He has purple skin and pointy ears.
** The fact that he's revealed to be [[spoiler:a clone of Juzo Kabuto]] might possibly have something to do with that.
** There's also the fact he is half demon in ''Mazin Saga''.

** This is averted in the Mazinkaiser manga, where he is japanese.
