Stan from American Dad has both Jerkass AND Jerk With A Heart Of Gold on his character page, so Ramsay should also have both, since there are moments where he can just be a straight up jerk without being nice at all.

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: In the kitchen, he is a screaming, yelling, short-tempered boss who will not tolerate any disobedience or attitude in return, and will throw you out of the competition then and there if you make too many wrong moves. But outside the kitchen, he's a soft-spoken, polite, friendly man who likes joking with the competing chefs. In Hell's Kitchen he demands to be called "Chef" but on rewards where he joins the winning team, he prefers to be called "Gordon" and will chat with them and have fun with them. He regularly arranges special dinners for firemen, law enforcement, military personnel, and charity organizations, and will get particularly upset when chefs screw up on those services ''because'' they are special guests and the chefs should be putting in extra effort for them.

* JerkassHasAPoint: While he can be an a-hole at times when a mistake is made, if it's a particularly dangerous one to either the customers or any of the other chefs on another chef's team, such as Johanna's rancid crab in Season 3, or Michael putting a very hot pan on top of cold pans that Josh and Bret wouldn't haven't been able to see and burnt their hands had Ramsay not caught Michael in the act, he does have the right to be angry if there is a safety or health hazard.

** He got really pissed at Andrea when she got to temporarily run the kitchen and constantly criticized his work endlessly due to overconfidence and expecting all of his dishes to be sabotaged instead of just one or two dishes. It got to the point that he actually insulted and threatened her and thanked Chef Ramsay with relief when he took over again.

Added DiffLines:

* {{Jerkass}}: Even more so than Ramsay, as Scott will actually physically threaten contenstants who make him angry.

Added DiffLines:

* NothingPersonal: Ramsay may berate people and call them names, but he only does it to get something out of them and even said in the very first episode of the series that none of his insults are personal attacks against the chefs. Season 22 brings this trope to the forefront: Ramsay jokingly called black jacket contestant Johnathan a "sack of shit" in front of everyone after the group celebrated their milestone. Johnathan took that personally and spent the entire episode in a bad mood, which affected his performance that night. Ramsay had to pull Johnathan aside and tell him that what he said was not being rude to him, it was just a joke.

Watch your language.

** In Season 3, Ramsay was particularly nasty to Bonnie after the fourth service by mocking her for being loss on meat. There's criticism, and there is bullying, and he was being a fucking bully.

* ScrewTheRulesIMakeThem: It's not at all uncommon for Ramsay to circumvent the typical rules of the show, because he's the boss and he has free rein to do as he likes. Examples include sending chefs home during service if they're particularly bad, sending home chefs that aren't nominated by their teams, sending home chefs on the winning team, and sending home more than one chef a night (though that one is very rare). During challenges where he scores performances, he may refuse to even issue a score to a chef that does particularly bad, or if the challenge has chefs going head-to-head for points and they both do well, he'll give them both a point. On the rare occasion both teams perform well that night, he rewards them by not eliminating anyone, though that usually only happens once a season.

** In Season 22, he decides to break his own "five black jackets only" rule he made earlier to give Ryan a sixth one, because his dish was equally good as Leigh's that he did not want to send him home right now.
