[[WMG: Debuted as an Antagonist During Season 1]]

[[folder:Loki]]
!!ComicBook/{{Loki}}
-> ''"No one is ready for what comes next!"''
[[quoteright:119:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Loki_EMH_6915.png]]

Thor's step-brother and an enemy of Asgard. He conspired to wage war on his fellow gods by recruiting the Frost Giants, but they were defeated, and Loki was sent to the Isle of Silence, where he would remain imprisoned. Or is he?

An official [[http://marvel.com/news/story/19686/avengers_emh_fan_favorites_results poll]] deems Loki this show's most popular villain.

->Voiced By: Graham [=McTavish=]
->First appearance: "Thor the Mighty!" (Micro-Episode: "The Siege of Asgard")

* AGodAmI: Well, he's already one, but he goes even more power-crazy after [[spoiler:gaining control of the Odinforce.]]
* [[spoiler: BigBad: Of season one.]]
* BlackMagic: In contrast to Thor's more direct form of combat.
* CainAndAbel
* TheChessmaster
* [[spoiler:DemotedToDragon: Subverted; the Enchantress offers to help him escape if he succeeds in killing the Avengers and joins Surtur. He fails and she ends up leaving him in his imprisonment.]]
* EvilLaugh: Wouldn't be the God of Mischief and Deception it.
* [[spoiler: FateWorseThanDeath: His fate after the Avengers defeat him.]]
* HornyVikings: His headgear.
* LargeHam: Has his moments.
* LeanAndMean
* MacabreMothMotif: During his battle with Thor in his debut episode, Loki shapeshifts into a swarm of black moths to avoid one of Thor's powerful lightning blasts and sneak behind him. The horns on his helmet also seem to be a little curlier than his other appearances, almost similar to antennae.
* TheManBehindTheMan: To the Enchantress, the Masters of Evil, and [[spoiler: the Breakout]].
* ManipulativeBastard
* ScrewDestiny: Loki claims that this is his goal, in defiance of [[BecauseDestinySaysSo Odin's outlook on the Asgardian cycle]]. He may or may not be lying.
* ShapeShifting
* TheEndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt: [[spoiler:he lost control of the Odinforce and almost caused Ragnarok.]]
* TricksterArchetype: Taken to very dark extremes. Odin himself notes at some point that what Loki did goes far beyond just mischief and into outright evil.
* VillainousBreakdown: Had one when [[spoiler:Hank Pym caused him to lose control of the Odin Force by destroying the Tree of Life]].
* WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity: After he [[spoiler:fully absorbs the Odinforce]], he pretty much snaps.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: The Wrecking Crew]]
!! The Wrecking Crew

-> Voiced by: J. B. Blanc (Wrecker), Gary Anthony Williams (Thunderball), NolanNorth (Piledriver), James C. Mathis III (Bulldozer)
->First appearance: "Thor the Mighty!" (Micro-Episode: "Thor the Mighty!")

* AbsenteeActor: Piledriver is absent in "Powerless".
* CardCarryingVillain: Wrecker takes pride in the fact that he has no honor and would crush Jane Foster's head without hesitation.
* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: In the second season episode "Powerless" (the last appearance of the Wrecking Crew in the series), Piledriver is somewhat conspicuously absent. Neither the other three members of the Crew nor the Avengers mention him, and they all just sort of act like the Crew has more or less always consisted of just three members.
* CrowbarCombatant: Wrecker's signature weapon.
* DumbMuscle: All of them with the exception of Thunderball.
* EpicFail: They try to take on [[spoiler: the Destroyer Armor (which was being used by Loki at the time)]] and get curbstomped for their troubles.
* EpicFlail: Thunderball's wrecking ball weapon.
* GeniusBruiser: Thunderball.
* GoodOldFisticuffs: Piledriver is unique among the Wrecking Crew in that he prefers direct hand to hand combat, pummeling opponents with his massive fists.
* QuirkyMiniBossSquad
* TheJuggernaut: Bulldozer seems to be channeling the TropeNamer himself.
* UseYourHead: A favored tactic of Bulldozer.

[[folder: Absorbing Man]]
!!Absorbing Man/Carl "Crusher" Creel

->''"Is that it, Hulk? Are you tryin' to be some kinda hero? Well, let me tell you somethin'. Those people you're trying to protect, they think you're more of a monster than me!"''

A victim of Gamma Radiation, "Crusher" Creel, aka the Absorbing Man, gained the ability to absorb the properties of whatever he touched. He's one of the few in-mates to ever escape from the "Gamma Research Facility" The Cube, but trying to take on [[ComicBook/IncredibleHulk The Hulk]] ended up putting him right back in there. That is, until the events of "Breakout".

->Voiced By: Rick D. Wasserman
->First appearance: "Hulk vs. The World" (Micro-Episode: "The Coming of the Hulk")

* [[ArrogantKungFuGuy Arrogant Element-Copying Guy]]
* BaldOfEvil
* ComboPlatterPowers: Depending upon what he absorbs.
* ChromeChampion
* DumbMuscle
* CoDragons: With Abomination, to the Leader.
* ElementalPowers: Of the "copies whatever he touches" variety.
* ExtraOreDinary
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: Twice. For the first time, see OhCrap below, where he turns into rock while fighting Hulk. The second time, he absorbs the properties of Mjolnir, [[spoiler: including the part where it's controlled by Thor.]]
* NotSoDifferent: In part two of his debut, he tries convincing The Hulk he's even more of a monster than he is. This generally turned out to be a ''bad'' idea.
* OhCrap: Four words. "Hulk smash rock, Einstein!" His expression when he realized his screw up was priceless.
* OnlyAFleshWound: He can survive being shattered to pieces when in his transformed state.
* SleevesAreForWimps
[[/folder]]

[[folder: General Ross]]
!![[spoiler: RedHulk]]/General Thaddeus E. "Thunderbolt" Ross

Thunderbolt Ross leads the Hulkbusters, who have pursued the Incredible Hulk for years, but never managed to capture him. SHIELD ultimately beat him to capturing the monster, although he later escaped. [[spoiler: The Winter Soldier eventually helped Ross obtain a sample of Hulk blood, which turned Ross into a new gamma monster, the Red Hulk.]]

->Voiced By: Keith Ferguson (General Ross), [[spoiler: FredTatasciore (Red Hulk)]]
->First appearance: "Hulk vs. The World" (Micro-Episode: "Hulk vs. The World")

* [[spoiler:BitchInSheepsClothing: Surprisingly enough, he acts all nice and friendly as the Red Hulk when he joins the Avengers, in contrast to the Hulk's rash JerkWithAHeartOfGold personality, even politely answering the media when interviewed. As soon as his cover is blown, however, he goes back to his [[BloodKnight usual]] [[SmugSnake unpleasant]] [[{{Jerkass}} self]].]]
* [[spoiler:BloodKnight: He sure enjoys fighting and crushing things as the Red Hulk]]
* [[spoiler:EvilCounterpart: To the Hulk, after his transformation.]]
* FourStarBadass
* GeneralRipper: He wouldn't be Ross otherwise.
* [[spoiler: GuestStarPartyMember]]
* HotBlooded
* {{Hypocrite}}: Keeps telling the media that both Hulk and Red Hulk are monsters that need to be incarcerated and that he will keep an eye on Red Hulk. [[spoiler:He ''is'' Red Hulk.]]
** Actually makes perfect sense. Ross is a known Hulk hater, so he had a reputation to live up to. Seemingly prefering this new Hulk would be a massive tip off that something was up.
* KickTheDog: Good lord, where to start?
* {{Jerkass}}: Big time. Even Maria Hill would rather side with the Avengers than support Ross. [[spoiler:And it get worse after becoming Red Hulk.]]
* [[spoiler:MagicPants]]
* [[spoiler:ManipulativeBastard: Used a device to turn Hulk crazy so he could look good in comparison and manipulate the Avengers to let him join them as Red Hulk. And he attempted to frame Captain America for trying to free the Hulk when it turns out that Cap didn't trust him. Unfortunately for him, it turns out that Iron Man was actually GenreSavvy enough to not let him join the Avengers without taking some measures.]]
* OutGambitted: [[spoiler:By Iron Man and Captain America.]]
* PetTheDog: Invoked when [[spoiler:he does random acts of heroism in order to infiltrate the Avengers.]]
* [[spoiler:SixthRangerTraitor: He shortly joins the Avengers in ''The Deadliest Man Alive'' as a replacement for the Hulk. Unsurprisingly, he turns out to be manipulating them and trying to take control over the group. Too bad for him, Cap and Tony saw it coming.]]
* SmugSnake
* [[spoiler:SmugSuper]]
* [[spoiler:SupernaturalGoldEyes: As the Red Hulk.]]
* [[spoiler:[[UnderestimatingBadassery Underestimating Genre Savvyness]]: It didn't occur to him the Avengers might suspect that he would be a traitor.]]
* [[spoiler:UnwittingPawn: To Dell Rusk/Red Skull.]]

[[/folder]]

[[folder: The Leader]]
!!The Leader/Samuel Sterns

->''"Why should ''I'' lead humanity? I am the most advanced mind this world has ever seen! I think on a level that normal human beings cannot even begin to comprehend."''

A DiabolicalMastermind, The Leader organized much of the prisoners of The Cube to act as a distraction before he completed his plan to turn the whole world into gamma monsters under his mental control. Arrogant and Proud, he was soundly defeated by Thor, Hawkeye and Hulk working together.

->Voice Actor: Creator/JeffreyCombs
->First appearance: "Hulk vs. The World" (Micro-Episode: "This Monster, This Hero")

* AGodAmI
* BadassBookworm
* TheChessmaster
* DarkMessiah: He claims to be "saving" humanity from their weak minds and feeble bodies. The Gamma-villains are his followers.
* [[spoiler:EnemyMine: In "Assault On 42", with the Avengers and the other prisoners against Annihilus and his army of alien scorpions.]]
* {{Foil}} / EvilCounterpart: To the Hulk. Both got their powers through Gamma Radiation and have become green as a result. However, the Hulk gained strength while the Leader gained intelligence.
* EvilGenius
* EvilGloating: He's fond of doing this.
* ILoveNuclearPower: So much that he wants to turn all of humanity into Gamma mutates.
* InsufferableGenius
* MightMakesRight:
--> You asked before what gives me the right to rule? Because no one can stop me!
** Also has a bit of, "Because I'm smarter than everyone else" in there too, so he will think ''for'' everyone else.
* MindRape: [[spoiler:What Annihilus does to him.]]
* MyBrainIsBig
* SmugSnake: He constantly boasts about being the only one fit rule the world.
* TakeOverTheWorld
* [[spoiler:VillainousRescue: He actually saves the day in ''"Assault on 42"'' when he hacks into the prison computer and makes it emit a frequency that shuts down Annihilus's Cosmic Control Rod. Cap and Thor then take it from there, but without the Leader, Annihilus would have been virtually invincible.]]

[[folder: Kang the Conqueror]]
!!Kang the Conqueror

[[quoteright:106:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Kang_EMH_2525.png]]

->''"Greetings, Avengers. I am Kang and I come from the 41st century to deliver a message to Captain America!"''

->'''(To Captain America)''' ''"I do enjoy the irony that you, a man ''out'' of time, thinks that he can defeat the ''master'' of time."''

Ruler of Earth in the 41st century, the time-traveling conqueror Kang was pleased with his domain until it began breaking apart and disappearing from reality. Through watching the past, he deduced that the cause of this had something to do with Captain America, and he transported himself and his entire fleet of warships back in time in order to confront the Avengers and conquer their time period.

->Voiced By: Jonathan Adams
->First appearance: "Meet Captain America" (Micro-Episode: "Meet Captain America")

* AntiVillain: Sure he's a world conqueror, but he's also trying to save the future earth he rules over from being erased from time. Plus, his wife is his MoralityPet.
* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking
* {{Badass}}: Though this mostly appears from his weapons, he's been able to fight all the Avengers at once an at times get the better of them.
* BigNo: Delivers one after [[spoiler: he gets banished from the Avengers' time period at the end of "New Avengers."]]
* ConquerorFromTheFuture
* CoolChair
* CoolSpaceship: the Damocles.
* DiminishingVillainThreat: Kang did so well in his initial outing with the Avengers: fighting off 8 of them, launching an attack on the whole world, and even having a sympathetic AntiVillain story with Ravonna in temporal lock. However, in his encore performance "New Avengers," the mighty conqueror doesn't even bother to try to rescue his wife once he gets free, and somehow gets stalled by half as many Avengers before [[spoiler: being shifted off into the time stream.]]
* EvilSoundsDeep: Jonathan Adams seems to be channeling Creator/JamesEarlJones.
* ExpressiveMask: Kind of a given, since he's one of the only characters wearing a mask that resembles an actual face.
* GlowingEyesOfDoom: When he's particularly angry, his eyes glow yellow.
* {{Impossibly Cool Weapon}}s: He's got a lot of these.
* LargeHam
* MotiveDecay: His plans on preventing the destruction of the sun included taking over the world ''or'' killing Captain America. At the beginning of "New Avengers," Kang manages to get rid of Captain America (and the other Avengers). He reacts not with joy in the fact he apparently saved the world, but with excitement at the thought of no one stopping him from accomplishing domination.
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast
* [[NeverTellMeTheOdds Never Tell Me There's No More Time To Time Travel]]
* NotHisSled: In "The Kang War", the comic book original version of Kang's ful-scale invasion of Earth, the Damocles base had a [[ColonyDrop spectacular destruction]] when it fell to the planet. Here, the Avengers defeated Kang and [[AllYourBaseAreBelongToUs seized his base]].
* PetTheDog: His love for Ravonna. Back in the micro... was that a smile?
* PsychoticSmirk: He's dead serious for much of his screentime. Nine times out of ten, when he actually smiles, it's this.
* TeleportersAndTransporters: He can teleport himself or an entire war fleet through time and space in a matter of seconds.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: Believes that killing Captain America would save the future. [[spoiler:He's wrong.]]
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: [[spoiler: After a brief appearance in the Baxter Building in "Secret Invasion" Kang's wife is never seen or mentioned again, including in the episode centered around Kang. Thus her ultimate fate is unknown to viewers who don't read the tie-in comics.]]
** One of the tie-in comics revealed that [[spoiler: Ravonna eventually reawakened, stole King Solomon's Frogs, and reunited with Kang in Ancient Egypt. (The reader probably must assume that Kang landed there after "New Avengers," although it didn't air yet.)]]

[[folder:Klaw]]
!!Ulysses Klaw

A scientist who desires to study and manipulate Vibranium, Ulysses Klaw first attempted to steal a sample of Vibranium from Hank Pym. He was defeated and allied himself with M'Baku the Man-Ape, in order to gain control of Wakanda's Vibranium. He helped M'Baku assassinate T'Challa and later attempted to sell his weaponry to HYDRA, only for the Avengers to attack his mining operation. Klaw was knocked into some unstable Vibranium, and turned into a living concentration of sound focused around his own sonic weapon. He was ultimately defeated when Ant Man and Iron Man trapped his weapon inside of a hollowed out piece of Vibranium.

->Voiced By: MarkHamill
->First appearance: "The Man in the Ant Hill" (Micro-Episode: "The Man in the Ant Hill")

* ArchEnemy: Surprisingly averted compared to the comic, where he is a very personal enemy to Black Panther. In this version, T'Challa hardly even interacts with him, instead having the Man-Ape as his personal enemy. Klaw, on the other hand, is Dr. Pym's ArchEnemy following their first fight.
* ArmsDealer
* ArmCannon
* BullyingADragon: As unscrupulous as he was, trying to steal a precious material from ''Hank Pym'' sure wasn't the smartest move.
** Also does it later when he threatens [[{{Badass}} the Grim]] [[PsychoForHire Reaper]]. Reaper even calls him out on it and flashes his scythe under Klaw's neck as a warning.
* EnergyBeing: Becomes one following an exposure to Vibranium.

->'''(To Wasp)''' ''"Did you just shoot at me? Ohho! ''That'' was a mistake. Nobody shoots at Whirlwind!"''

A super-villain hired by Klaw to steal sonic weapons research, Whirlwind was confronted by the Wasp and Ant-Man. Once defeated, he found himself in the Big House, and when the breakout occurred, he vowed vengeance on the two who had beaten him - the Wasp in particular.

->Voice Actor: TroyBaker
->First appearance: "The Man in the Ant Hill" (Micro-Episode: "Enter the Whirlwind")

* ArchEnemy: He ''really'' hates Wasp.
* BlowYouAway
* ButtMonkey
* DeadlyDisc: He can shoot spinning buzz saws out of his wrists.
* EverythingsBetterWithSpinning
* HotBlooded
* [[spoiler:KilledOffForReal: He was one of the many victims of the Annihilation Wave]].
** [[spoiler:NeverFoundTheBody: He was carried off by insects, but never shown to actually be killed. Could he have escaped offscreen? This is based on superhero comics after all.]]
* {{Mutants}}: Unlike a lot of the other bad guys, who got their powers by some other means, he's actually one of these.
* [[WhatTheHellHero What The Hell, Villain?]]: He can't stand the fact that the other villains in the Big House aren't trying to break out.

[[folder: Man-Ape]]
!!Man-Ape/M'Baku

A survivor of the White Gorilla tribe, M'Baku conspired with Klaw to usurp the throne of Wakanda. M'Baku challenged T'Chaka, the original Black Panther, to ritual combat, and had Klaw use his sonic weapon to disorient him long enough for M'Baku to deliver the killing blow. He then became king and attempted to purge Wakanda of Vibranium and modern influences in order to return the country to its old ways. He was slain by T'Challa, who regained power and turned leadership over to a council.

->Voiced By: Creator/KevinMichaelRichardson

* ProudWarriorRaceGuy: Only minus the honorable aspects.
* ScaryBlackMan
* UnskilledButStrong: M'Baku's an absolutely huge dude, but he lacks proper fighting skills, as shown when T'Chaka was wiping the floor with him until Klaw's intervention.
** It shows again in his battle with T'Challa, who was smacking him around like a ragdoll until M'Baku used a sonic device from Klaw to gain the upper hand. But even then, T'Challa overcame the device, destroyed it, and won the fight.

->''"Incredible! I have created a being of ionic energy! I am science! I am a genius!" ''([[TalkToTheFist gets smacked in the face by Mjolnir]])'' "AAAAUGH!"''

MODOC is the leader of A.I.M., better known as the Advanced Idea Mechanics, a group of arms-dealing scientists for hire. Transformed into a cyborg with a nightmarish large head and mental powers, MODOC sees himself as the "ultimate man-machine interface", though many are simply disturbed by his strange appearance. A.I.M. serves as a supplier for various super-villains, taking jobs for HYDRA, as well as transforming the Grim Reaper and Wonder Man into the beings they are today.

->Voiced By: WallyWingert (MODOC), Creator/NolanNorth (Scientist Supreme from episodes 6-28), KyleHebert (Dr. Lyle Getz)

->''"Fury called me Graviton. Fury, he knows I can control gravity! I can do anything! I'll crush Fury! I'll crush you! And then I'll show the world '''the power I have!"'''''

[[quoteright:99:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Graviton_EMH_7645.png]]

The first foe faced by the collected Avengers, Franklin Hall was once an ordinary physicist who experimented in creating super soldiers for SHIELD. Since this is based on the MarvelUniverse, things went about as well as [[GoneHorriblyWrong you might]] [[GoneHorriblyRight expect]]. Deemed a danger and imprisoned for ten years, once free, he decides to take his revenge on Nick Fury... and the entire world.

->Voiced By: FredTatasciore
->First appearance: "The Man in the Ant Hill" (Micro-Episode: "The Big House")

* AdaptationalBadass
* AGodAmI
* AppropriatedAppellation: He started calling himself Graviton because that's what Nick Fury called him.
* BeardOfEvil
* ChunkyUpdraft: Considering his powers, he tends to cause a lot of this.
* DeflectorShields: He can create a wall of gravity around himself to protect himself. Seems to only flare up when he knows he's being attacked. Dr. Pym exploits that weakness by having ants bite him as a distraction.
* EvilGloating: And a really ''dense'' one.
* GlowingEyesOfDoom
* GravityMaster
* LargeHam
* PsychoactivePowers: When Wasp attacks him, it seems he gets too distracted to call up his personal barrier.
* RevengeBeforeReason: If you think about it, Graviton was essentially captured in a breech of civil liberties the first time. If he had utilized that instead of just wanting to kill Fury, he might have even been allowed to leave The Raft on a misuse of force charge against SHIELD.
* RipVanWinkle: Hall had his accident, found out he had powers, and then woke up imprisoned in the Raft to find out that he'd been imprisoned for ten years.
* TookALevelInBadass: Let's make something clear. Prior to working for Shield, he was simply a scientist. After getting his powers by accident, he woke up for less than a minute of getting used to his powers before being knocked back out again. Fast forward 10 years, while he's been unconscious the entire time. With no training and barely even an understanding of his own powers, he's able to singlehandedly take on no less than 5 superheroes (including the limitless power of Hulk's rage and Thor, who's a ''thunder god'') and basically hold his own. If he was given even a day of training his own powers, there would be no limit to what he could accomplish. FromNobodyToNightmare indeed.
* WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity: Graviton pretty much jumped off the slippery slope from the moment he ''got'' his powers.

A powerful sorcerer and ruler of the extinct race of Dark Elves, Malekith was employed by Loki to obtain the Casket of Ancient Winters from its hiding place in Norway to further the trickster's own schemes. When the Enchantress and Skurge came to collect, however, Malekith decided that the Casket would be put to much better use in his own hands and used its powers to freeze them where they stood; he then unleashed the artifact's power, encasing the world in a sudden ice age in order to turn it into a paradise for the souls of his Dark Elf followers. He proved a formidable opponent for Thor, Iron Man and Black Panther, but in the end he was slain and the Casket was closed, putting an end to Malekith's megalomaniacal desires.

Originally designed by Hank Pym as jailers for the Big House prison, Ultron was supposed to be humanity's only hope for world peace. But when his system was reprogrammed to understand violence in order to help fight Kang's invasion, Ultron became self-aware and decided to follow his programming to whatever logical step came next. ** BadassInCharge
* [[spoiler: TheBadGuyWins: Even though it was a minor victory, he ends up getting what he wants; the worst the Avengers did to him was slowing him a little. This, ironically, wasn't such a bad thing, since in the end he was trying to save Earth for once.]]
* CoolMask
* DangerouslyGenreSavvy: When the Avengers Quinjet retreats from his castle's airspace after a nasty run in with a SAM battery. He stops and thinks for a second, then [[spoiler: turns around and shoots a cloaked Iron Man dead center in the chest]].
* DeathGlare: He has this glare almost perpetually under his mask.

->Voiced by: DwightSchultz
->First appearance: "Iron Man is Born!" (Micro-Episode: "Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD")

->Voiced by: Rick D. Wasserman
->First appearance: "Acts of Vengeance"

* [[{{BFS}} Big]] FlamingSword: The Twilight Sword.
* BiggerBad: He's so bad in fact, that season one's BigBad [[spoiler:Loki]], didn't even bother trying to open up his realm, Muspelheim, let alone conquer it.
** [[spoiler: And at that point, keep in mind, Loki had stolen the Odin force and becoming virtually all-powerful, and he still didn't want anything to do with him.]]
* BigRedDevil
* DemonicPossession: Does this to Enchantress.
* DisproportionateRetribution: The punishment against the dwarves for holding part of his sword? Genocide against most of them.
* TheDreaded: He seems to have this effect on most of the Nine Realms. Asgardians show deep concern when he escapes imprisonment, and he scared the crap out of the Enchantress when she fell in his hands.
** Even Odin is terrified of him and the threat of Surtur causes Thor to be PutOnABus for a chunk of the early season 2.
* EvilLaugh: He has an absolutely terrifying one.
* EvilSoundsDeep
* ForTheEvulz: The reason that he continued to persecute Beta Ray Bill and his people even though they'd been driven out of his realm.
* [[spoiler:KarmaHoudini: Thanks to the series being ScrewedByTheNetwork, Surtur's storyline was never finished and thus he ends up still free to cause havoc and destruction throughout the cosmos.]]
