In the beginning, there was conception.\\
\\
[=CommanderVideo=] gains consciousness, and his first thought is a question. ''What is that?'' He attempts to look at himself, and he doesn't understand what he sees. A possible metaphor for this is the appearance of the Arecibo message, a transmission containing basic information about Earth and humanity, sent from Earth to any intelligent life that might find it. It's information, but it's unlikely that any intelligent life out there would understand it; the only reason [=CommanderVideo=] recognizes it as information is because he's looking for it. [=CommanderVideo=] doesn't recognize anything about what he finds, not even his own physical shape (which is present in the Arecibo message as shown, replacing the pixelated human form). The ghostly Commanders that float by further ignite his curiousity about the shape that he has found. He doesn't know that it is him. He doesn't know that there ''is'' a him.\\
\\
It does not occur to him for many years that those figures are there for a reason.\\
\\
At the beginning of "Descent" [=CommanderVideo=] attempts to take a step but falls flat on his face. He decides to take matters into his own hands and go searching a mysterious world. He looks inside, and finds great rivers flowing with a red substance. He follows them to their destination and source, a massive red... thing. It is all very strange and wondrous, but it means nothing to him. After all, he has not yet encountered society, which has placed meaning and significance upon that which he has found: his heart.\\
\\
Then he looks in between the red rivers, and finds something bewildering and amazing. Constant flows of electricity, seeking and making new connections between nodes. He has found an incredible thing that exists to form connections, to process information, to ''think''. What it ''is'' isn't nearly as incredible as what it ''does''. His wonder turns to revelation when he comes face to face with something completely alien to him, yet utterly familiar. Himself. A bright red Core spins in the background, representing something very important that he has gained.\\
\\
He again attempts to step and succeeds. His first step... no, his ''zeroth'' step. Before every one, there is a zero.\\
\\
And then he moves toward the light. There are others like him out there. They seem excited. And then he speaks his first words. They are the answer he sought, and his first learned truth: "I AM ONLY A MAN", to which his mother answers in kind.\\
\\
Happy birthday.\\

In ''BEAT'' starts our story with a concept flying about the beginning, there was conception.\\

ethereal, this concept begins to form into a man called [=CommanderVideo=]. We see him flying freely through an unfamilar vastness from a blue planet towards a lava planet as he begins to make his ''Transition'' from an ethereal form to a corporeal one. We also witness other beings similar in appearance to [=CommanderVideo=] gains consciousness, and his first thought is a question. ''What is that?'' He attempts returning to look at himself, and he doesn't understand what he sees. A possible metaphor for this is the appearance of ethereal.

Once he reaches
the Arecibo message, a transmission containing basic information about Earth and humanity, sent from Earth to any intelligent life that might find it. It's information, but it's unlikely that any intelligent life out there would understand it; the only reason lava planet, [=CommanderVideo=] recognizes it as information is because he's looking for it. [=CommanderVideo=] doesn't recognize anything about what he finds, not even makes his own ''Descent'' into it, and is caught by the flow. He is carried onwards to the centre of the planet, passing the point of no return as his actual conception begins.

After reaching the core of this planet, his ''Growth'' begins. We witness his
physical shape (which is present in the Arecibo message as shown, replacing the pixelated human form). The ghostly Commanders that float by further ignite his curiousity about the shape that he has found. He doesn't know that it is him. He doesn't know that there ''is'' a him.\\

growing into a baby before being born.

''CORE'' continues our story, with [=CommanderVideo=] being dwarfed by 3 towering figures whom he doesn't recognise. At the same time, he begins his ''Discovery'' of his new physical form. He is no longer as free as he was before, and is restricted to only a handful of movements.

He comes to learn who two of these figures are: his parents. in his ''Exploration'' of this unfamilar world, he still hasn't quite gotten the hang of things, but his mother and father are there to help him.

After a while, he begins to take ''Control'' of himself, able to stand on his own two feet, without the assistance of his parents. We witness him begin to harness the power of his own mind and his own creativity.

After the credits, we see him in total control, but he has to pay attention to his surroundings. as he bumps into another figure, a realisation hits him

''I.AM.NOT.ALONE''

''CORE'' is the story of childhood, born into a new unfamiliar body, an unfamiliar world, and beginning to make sense of it all.

''VOID'' is the most abstract part of the story. There are no backgrounds to the levels, and instead the gameplay is the focus of the story. We first witness his ''Id'' develop, the primal self that wants to take and take and take, as he completely overpowers everyone around him.

Eventually, he realises that those he pushes around will sometimes push back, which begins the development of his 'Ego'. Taking and taking all the time is damaging, and he begins to learn how to control his impulses.

After his humbling experience, CV learns that reaching out to other people instead of rampaging everywhere will get him further in life. This is the point where his ''Superego'' begins to develop, the part of the mind that seeks to connect with others. He learns to take only enough to get by, without being too greedy

After the credits, he's got complete control over his body and mind, as well as how to make friends. He's now able to take on the world as we see him run off into the distance

''I.AM..READY''

''VOID'' is the story of adolescence, being able to make and keep friends whilst still knowing what your own needs are.

As he continues, CV begins to take note of the world being a more industrial and ugly place than he once thought, but he has the ''Tenacity'' to continue throughout it all.

Over the course of his journey, CV has been able to make a few friends, but still faces adversity in the form of the Timbletot, but with some assistance from his friends, he manages to ''Triumph''. We also see him fall in love with [=CommandGirlVideo=].

After the credits, we see the Timbletot confront CV. The ever innocent [=CommanderVideo=] only wants to make friends, but Mingrawn won't have it. He flies off, leaving these parting words:

''You are not a man''

''RUNNER'' is the story of adulthood, making your way through the world, encountering adversities and pushing through them.

All throughout ''RUNNER'', the Commander has been plagued by Minigrawn Timbletot who says to him that he is not a man. ''FATE'' follows up on this, as we see Commander Video go through depression and his aging. He forgets what really matters as he slowly comes to believe that defeating Timbletot is his life's only purpose. This is reflected through the subliminal messages that appear throughout the game.

He forgets what really matters friends pursue the Timbletot, who still hates him. [=CommanderVideo=] sets off after the Timbletot, with his fate now set in stone as he slowly travels along his fate line. CV comes across enemies of all sorts, and shoots them all down. He has ''Determination'' to believe that defeating find the Timbletot, and the ''Patience'' to still make friends with him after all he's done.

As he continues, the almost endless waves of enemies CV comes across instill a sense of ''Desperation'', and his innocent, friendly side begins to falter, with ''Frustration'' taking its place.

Just as our consciousness is not yet connected to our physical bodies in our sperm/egg stage of life, our consciousness is no longer totally connect to the mortal plane when we're physically dead.\\
\\
I think that is the reason ''BEAT'' and ''FLUX'' play the same way. They both represent the times in our lives when we aren't quite ''alive'' in the conventional sense, yet we still exist. Our standard notion of consciousness isn't really part of the equation when we don't have bodies yet, which I guess really simplifies things. That's probably why ''BEAT'' and ''FLUX'' are the most simple, and arguably most consciousness-freeing games in the series.\\

That said, the goal of a sperm on its way out of the body, and the goal of a soul on its way to the afterlife aren't entirely the same. As such, ''BEAT'' and ''FLUX'' also have their fair share of difference. Chief amongst those differences is motivation. In ''BEAT'', your main goal was to survive until you get to "the end," which makes sense, as that's also the sperm's only job. In ''FLUX'', survival isn't really an issue anymore, which makes sense, as you're already dead. Instead of survival, the post-death soul is motivated to take what it has learned from human existence, and move on. That's exactly what you do in ''FLUX''.

He arrives

"A lesson is learned. Life is simply. There is no death. There is no before. There is no after. All is in flux. Simply."

A bright red Core spins in the background, representing something very important that he has gained.\\

And then he moves toward the light. There are others like him out there. They seem excited. And then he speaks his first words, the answer he sought, his first truth: I AM ONLY A MAN.\\

In the beginning, there was conception.\\
\\
[=CommanderVideo=] gains consciousness, and his first thought is a question. ''What am I?'' He attempts to look at himself, and he doesn't understand what he sees. The ghostly [=CommanderVideos=] that apear in the background indicate that he is extremely curious about this shape that he has found.\\
\\
[=CommanderVideo=] decides to take matters into his own hands and go hunting for what he is. He looks inwards, and finds great rivers flowing with a red substance. He follows them to their destination and source, a massive red... thing. It is all very strange and wondrous, but it means nothing to him. After all, he has not yet encountered society, which has placed meaning and significance upon that which he has found: his heart.\\
\\
Then he looks higher, and finds something amazing. Constant flows of electricity, seeking and making new connections between nodes. He has found an incredible thing that exists for form connections, to process information, to ''think''. What it ''is'' isn't nearly as incredible as what it ''does''.
