Lord Seth: I'm trying to figure out what trope exists, if any, for this: In the Play Within A Play at the end, it calls for one of the characters (a male) to play a female (as was the custom at the time). Back then, it was probably par for the course—the play proper had it!—but in modern times it ends up making the play within the play even sillier just because of how absurd it seems. Is there any kind of trope for that? The best I can think of is A Gay Old Time but that seems to be more focused on language (plus this is making an already funny scene funnier, as the original joke was how bad the play was also)
