Linas: Guys there's no need to wait for the all-powerful future medicine. Appendixes do not prevent us from having offspring now, unless you live in Zimbabwe. Lots of people have their appendixes surgery and live perfectly normal lives afterwards. Natural selection puts no pressure here. Appendixes are going to stay forever with humankind, provided that healthcare is not going to drop down back to middle ages level :) That's the very basics of how evolution works. As for vestigial organs, evolution usually gets rid of them because they need resources which could be used somewhere else and thus are harmful in a way. Then again, only if there's natural selection pressure at all. Medicine and healthcare almost eliminated it already, in developed countries at least.
