Describe Talking Is A Free Action Discussion here.

Is it worth noting that this can be caused by the "Marvel Method"? The artist draws the whole thing and then it is up to the writer to try and come up with dialogue to match the panels. You can imagine how easy it is to find yourself out of panels and missing a fair amount of exposition to advance the plot.

Pavlov: De-natterfied the Spider-man entry. I'm in a mood today.

  • Which is an utter shame and one of the things truely wrong with that franchise.

Kizor: Is Avatar The Last Airbender an aversion? I feel like it is, but such terms are cheapened by overuse and Avatar is all over the place anyway. Talk during combat seems to be rare and limited to two- and three-syllabe words at most. There are two occasions in the series where someone gets off a full sentence. This came to mind while watching an escape sequence in the finale, transcribed thus:

Sokka: Aagh!
Toph: Eek! Aaaaaaaa!
Sokka: Aiih!
Toph: Aaaaaaaa! Aiigh! Aaaa—
Sokka: Aargh!
Toph: Urgh!
Sokka: Rngh!
Toph: Urgh!
Sokka: Rrrrgnh!
Toph: Nrgh!
Sokka: Airgh!

- "In Ichigo's second fight with Grimmjow in Bleach, his hollow mask stays active for around 11 seconds, but the fight lasts for five minutes in the anime. Even if you do assume that the characters are moving at superhuman speed and can take more actions in 11 seconds than most people can, the dialogue that both characters say would easily take longer than 11 seconds combined. "

If I'm not mistaken, the example here is wrong since in their rematch, Ichigo broke the 11s barrier and started then to be able to use it indefinitely (or until broken). Shall this be removed, then?

Agreed. Further, Ichigo has the ability to repair his mask if necessary, thus demonstrating his greater control. However, there is still an element of it present, in the sense that Orihime can plead with Ichigo not to die blah blah blah, which then causes Ichigo to gain his second wind while Grimmjaw is rushing at him at full speed. Not to mention Grimmjaw going through (Kami-sama-only-knows how long that really was) his years as an Adjuchas. So, maybe it should be left in, but edited slightly.

Count Dorku: I think someone may have cut a reference to FATAL in the Tabletop Games section, without being very careful about it. Since a discussion of the HERO System goes from 'the HERO System explicity labels speech a free action" to...
  • Made particularly ridiculous when, because all stats are randomized, you have a character whose average talking speed is faster than their maximum talking speed. Yes, those are both stats.
