Devil's Advocate: I removed the Star Wars example, as I don't think it applies: it's not the Luke refuses the call, it's that his uncle won't let him accept it.

Dark Sasami: I put it back.

Ben: You must learn the ways of the Force if you're to come with me to Alderaan.
Luke: (laughing) Alderaan? I'm not going to Alderaan. I've got to go home. It's late, I'm in for it as it is.
Ben: I need your help, Luke. She needs your help. I'm getting too old for this sort of thing.
Luke: I can't get involved! I've got work to do! It's not that I like the Empire. I hate it! But there's nothing I can do about it right now. It's such a long way from here.

That's a classic Refusal of the Call right there.

Ununnilium: I think "she applied phlebotinum" works.

Paul A: Oh, I see. I didn't realise "applied" was being used as a verb.

Gorgon: Pulled out
A 10-Minute Retirement is a Refusal of the Call after having already accepted it.

Phartman: Okay, I'm not going to be an unreasonable tightass like some people, but please make sure that an entry isn't already here before you add it.

That said, the 24 example was duplicated, so I pulled the shorter one.

Arivne: The Escape From New York entry says that the Anti-Hero (Snake Plisskin) "is just plain kidnapped and blackmailed into providing his help." This is not correct. He was convicted of robbing a Federal Reserve Depository and sentenced to the New York prison before the President's plane was hijacked. He was offered a pardon if he saved the President and the tape. If he hadn't accepted the offer, he just would have been sent in to the prison, which would have happened to him anyway. He did initially refuse the offer, so the example as a whole does fit the trope. I'll check back in a while: if no one has any objection, I'll change the entry accordingly.

Arivne: I've corrected the mistake and made it a separate example.
