Describe Reds With Rockets Discussion here.

  • Is it accurate to say NATO had a volunteer force? The US, Canada and UK had (and still have) largely volunteer forces for much of the Cold War, but don't most countries in Western Europe impose mandatory military service on young male citizens?

Silent Hunter: You're right. I'd forgotten about the Bundeswehr (West Germany). The US had Selective Service up until the end of the Vietnam War as well.

Semiapies: We still do. The US just doesn't have an active draft.

  • This is a TV Tropes article? Looks like Wikipedia with some pop culture references thrown in. Not that I mind, it's very informative and I know There Is No Such Thing As Notability, but it's just a little odd to see here.

  • The entry on RPG says: RPG stands for Reaktivniy Protivotankoviy Granatamyot - "jet-powered anti-tank grenade-launcher". That's actually "rocket-powered anti-tank grenade-launcher," though I'm not confident of the exact word for it in Russian. I would guess "raketniy," but I could be mixing it with a bastardised Bulgarian word with the same meaning.

Silent Hunter: Here's another T-34, this one in London. It's been re-painted since then.
