Nationality Stereotypes launched as National Stereotypes: From YKTTW

Ununnilium: Taking out "indeed male homosexuality remained illegal in the UK from the reign of Queen Victoria through to 1967 (Victoria did not believe that women could be homosexual, so they got away with it)", because, well, it seems like an anti-homosexual backlash would be more likely if there were more homosexuals.

Gracie Lizzie: Polite businessmen? British Southerners are stereotyped as snobs.

Janitor: Agreed. The analogy in the following is, at best, murky.

  • As in the USA there's an internal North-South divide, except it's in reverse; the Northerners are stereotyped as loud, arrogant and unsophisticated and the Southerners are the well-spoken and polite businessmen.

... American (urban) Southerners are stereotypically more well-spoken and polite than their Northern analogues. Northeastern cities in the States and London are the most likely settings for snobs.

Halcyon Umbra: I once heard a joke that goes "In Heaven, the British are the Policemen, the French are the Chefs, the Germans are the Engineers, the Italians are the Lovers, and the whole place is run by the Swiss. In Hell, the Germans are the Policemen, the British are the Chefs, the French are the Engineers, the Swiss are the Lovers, and the whole place is run by the Italians." I'm not sure how to fit this into the actual article, but it seems like it should go somewhere.

Janitor: Funny!. I'll try it as a quoteright.
