Gus: I drafted this a few times, then pulled back because I was being way too cynical and snarky. Somebody in a kinder, gentler mood might wish to to take it on.

Idle Dandy: Eh, I think I was too cynical, too. I hope I meant the same thing by "Meeting Cute" that you did. Anyway, my first reaction when I see a couple meet cute is a knowing groan, so maybe a cynical entry is called for.

Keru: Wouldn't the Tenchi instance of this be considered more of a skewer of the trope?

Looney Toons: You're right — I left out the word "subversion" by accident.

Idle Dandy: Props for the Buffy/Riley addition! I knew right away Parker was going to be a dud because Buffy had already met cute with somebody else...

Gus: (Sep-21-05) This entry got meme-d on Xanga, meaning someone (I think this was the first [post was deleted on xanga, we slashdotted them]), blogged their Meet Cute of the day, then their Friending Network buds picked up on it and posted theirs and so on. Just so you have an idea what a thing like this can do: over 10% of wiki traffic today has been inbound to Meet Cute, north of 30,000 hits on that single entry.

Sukeban: If a romantic relationship isn't needed, the beginning of The Three Musketeers has D'Artagnan bumping into (and making duel appointments with) Athos, Porthos and Aramis... in three separate, consecutive events.

Schol-R-LEA: Not sure if this counts, but:

  • Miki in Marmalade Boy is preparing to start a big, public argument over her parents' plan to divorce and get re-married to the respective spouses in another couple whom they met on vacation (who would also be getting divorced for this purpose), when Yuu, the other couple's son, arrives; she is immediately smitten with him, and almost forgets her objections to what the parents were doing.

BT Isaac: If this is never the way people meet their significant other in real life, then how do you explain the Troper Tales section? Whoever wrote that should think about it a little.
