Maybe I'm just up too late, but I don't see what this has to do with incest. —Document N

  • Think about it: Jimmy is married to Lucy Lane, Clark is married to Lois Lane. Lucy and Lois are sisters, which means their children are cousins.

No mention of blue lagoon? I haven't seen all of it, so I'd rather leave it to someone else, but basically, brother and sister and a man (I didn't see the first half) are wrecked on a jungle island. The man dies before they hit puberty, and they discover sex is fun. The girl gets pregnant and has a kid before they get rescued.

Troper Tales page for this, anyone?

It's been a long time but I don't think they were brother and sister.

Is it just Fuzzie's take on this, or is this trope page title a incredibly lazy pun?

Spider: Let me get this straight...this trope involves surprise incest, yes? There are a hell of a lot of entries involving people who know full well they're related before their shenanigans. Shouldn't they be deleted?
  • Tricksterson: My impression was that it was about incest in general.
Spider: Well, the opening description makes it clear it's about the surprise factor: "But then, someone makes a startling discovery — genetics has struck!...The surprise relationship is usually either brother/sister, half-siblings, parent/child (much rarer these days than it was in ancient Greece), or, very rarely, uncle/niece or aunt/nephew. ...etc." A lot of these examples then don't fit (most of them do). I don't want to go on a deletion rampage without discussion, though.
  • Tricksterson: So rather than delete a whole slew of entries, maybe the lead-in should be changed. Obviously from the size of the article and the fact that many entries are not surprise oriented this is a popular subject and the title itself doesn't indicate a surprise factor. Maybe surprise related entries need to be given their own topic.
