Working Title: If You\'re So Evil, Eat This Kitten: From YKTTW

  • Is the trope about proving you're evil, or, committing something evil to prove something? For instance, Training Day features many evil things for the main character to prove he's actually one of the good guys. This is also true of entrance-tests to organizations (a movie, whose name skips my mind, feature two soldiers fighting to the death to join a top-secret intelligence agency) which are not necessarily bad. In these cases, it's all about proving how far one will go for a cause (may be involved in La Resistance)
    • I don't know what it means for good guys to require you to do evil things. I think that would make them... less good guys, at least.
    • Well, sliding scale of ends vs means not withstanding for the real world, it is sometimes the opinion of the good guys that bad things may need to be done for the ultimate result of good. Obviously this won't happen on the other end of the scale.
    • Well, if they are understood to be evil things, rather than just distasteful things that should and must be done, then I guess they would qualify.

Rebochan: Best. Trope Name. EVER.
