From YKTTW

Fast Eddie: We may have a new wiki trope. Preemptive Launch.

Tanto: Better than not launching at all. grumbles

Fast Eddie: Hearing that grumble. Seconding that grumble. There is a fine line between developing a trope and dithering over a trope.

Tanto: Or starting the trope, but leaving the discussion leading up to it to rot on the YKTTW vine.

Lale: I got an affirmative that it was a trope, and a good name. What else is there to discuss?

Fast Eddie: Nothing. Good on you. Swift, decisive ... What are you wearing? :-)

Lale: Blue jean shorts, black sandals, green tank top, my glasses, and a cross that says Forgiven. And what was the point of that?

Fast Eddie. It was a humor thing, Lale.

Lale: Sadly, nerdy loners and humor don't mix.

Tanto: This wiki's existence suggests otherwise.

That entire exchange reminded me of a certain Justice League episode...

Fast Eddie: Thank you, Tanto, for that very nice Time Out. For the record ... not so much a loner. Nerdy, I cop to. Compliments? I'll save 'em.

Lale: No need for that ;)

Seven Seals: Wait, wait. "What are you wearing?" Seriously, you people are weird. And I know I've said that before, but it bears repeating.

Oh, yes, and as far as tropes go, launch 'em when you've got 'em. In fact, as far as I'm concerned you don't even need to go past YKTTW if you've a) got the examples and b) you're absolutely sure we don't already have the trope. Any rotten tropes can be cutlisted, and we can always redirect/move tropes with cruddy titles.

Fast Eddie: Skip having the examples. Not a duplicate? Go for it! If it is a duplicate, run for cover and pray to whatever deity you might think is listening. On the "What are you wearing?" issue ... It is the sense of humor that I have. Mock, as you will. It remains mine. :-P

Seven Seals: Well, I wouldn't say "skip the examples" that fast. It helps cutting down on tropes that are not, you know, tropes. I've seen people trying to put in hyper-specific stuff that really only happened once, because it was Just Cool and maybe Ought To Be A Trope (or because they were just confused). I usually hold off until we can name at least three suitably different instances before I call it a trope. But, yeah, there's still a cut list, so it's not like that should be a golden rule.

Noriar: Just skimmed over the trope page but i guess a faint impression... is the trope supposed to only include these protectors which are invisible most of the time and only pop up once in a while to protect him/stay around to keep the minor trouble away? Or is it really abut all the other characters which fight alongside the hero so he can save his strength for the Big Bad? So... either the title is confusing or some examples don't fit... I'm not experienced enough to decide i guess, just thought I'd come up with it.
