Corahs Uncle: Regarding "special guest star" credits in movies, it could happen in a movie franchise, such as Star Wars or Harry Potter.

Ununnilium: There was someone like this on the Nick Jr. show Sharon, Lois & Bram's Elephant Show, but I can't remember his name.
//In movies, it's a fancy word for "brief cameo from some well-known actor"... am I right? -- Ungvichian

Seth: I can't think of any films ive seen where the credits called someone a special guest. Examples anyone?

Paul A: Neither of these seem to be actually related to the trope:

  • Subversion: Every episode of Police Squad! featured a special guest star who was killed during the opening credits. (See Dead Star Walking.)
  • The Batman live-action series had "special guest villains", listed as such at the beginning of the episode.

Charles: Robert, I don't know why you felt the need to remove that bit about Martin Landau (since you didn't say), but it's relevant and fairly obvious if you watch the show, and so it's going back in.

Robert: Because it's natter that's not relevant to the example. Saying why he stayed a guest star despite being regular would be relevant; merely saying why he became a regular isn't.

Charles: It explains why the phenomenon happened in that instance. As far as him becoming a regular, they did make him a regular for Season 2. Since they made the change part way through Season 1, they probably just didn't want to change the contracts.
