From YKTTW Working Title: Relationship Reboot
Okay, I launched this page from the YKTTW without a couple of the suggested examples which I will list and explain why.
Pocahontas: Pocahontas and John Smith do not get back together in the sequel IIRC. The tension occurs with another character.
Austin Powers: Vanessa is not in either sequel making it very hard to have tension between the characters.
Oceans Eleven: I assumed the troper meant that Danny/Tess broke up between 12 and 13. But again, they don't get back together (that we see). Also, as with Austin Powers, Tess is not in Oceans 13.
Its not enough that the couple breaks up. They must also get either get back together (or have enough tension to qualify as a viable ship) in the sequel. Therefore both characters must still be present.
I didn't include The Swan Princess example because I haven't seen the films and have no idea whether they fit the trope, nor could I tell from the description. If you feel that they do, please feel free to add it to the main page.
