//Looney Toons: Wouldn't pretty much all of Cop Rock count under this trope?

HeartBurnKid: I'm trying to decide if Sandman's entrance from the old ECW (before they went out of business, were bought out by WWE, and revived) counts as a real-life example of this trope. Basically, the entire crowd in the arena would sing along to Sandman's entrance music, Metallica's "Enter Sandman", as he entered. The main reason I'm not sure about it is that it's not exactly unexplained; I mean, "Enter Sandman" was such a big hit that there's probably more people in the US that do know the words than don't (and the ECW mutants were so diehard that, even if they didn't know the song already, they'd probably learn it for the express purpose of singing along). What do you guys think?

Ununnilium: Put it in as, at least, an interesting variation?

HeartBurnKid: Eh, went ahead and put it in. Why not?

Pavlov: Hey, even though the quality is worse, I replaced the Putfile link http://media.putfile.com/shipoopi with a You Tube link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNm19RqlJME because when I pulled up the Putfile, I got an image link for softcore porn. Fortunately, while I was at home! If someone else wants to NSFW the heck out of this, feel free to swap it back.

Ununnilium: No, I'm fine with that. ``v

Darmok: I agree completely with the ECW/'Enter Sandman' entry, but I thought it would be funny to point out that it is under the heading of 'Reality'.

Morgan Wick: Because "Reality" is funny in itself, or because it's Professional Wrestling, which isn't exactly "reality"?

Darmok: The latter really. I'm a fan of Professional Wrestling, but think classifying it under 'Reality' is a slight misnomer.

HeartBurn Kid: Ahh, true, but in this case, it's the real people in the audience who are invoking the trope, not the characters in the ring. One of the things I love about pro wrestling is the blurry line between fantasy and reality, and this whole discussion illustrates it in spades.

Darmok: Ah, a good point. Would it also then count as a Crowd Song when fans at a music concert sing along with their favourite songs?

The Red Garden girls are unusual for this since they don't seem to have any singing training.

Kizor: Fuck! I just came up with this independently for the second time!

OJ: This probably belongs here, but I do not even attempt to classify it: http://improveverywhere.com/2008/03/09/food-court-musical/

Some Sort Of Troper: Pulled this-

  • Handwaved in Back To The Future when Marty gives the band a few quick tips on what to expect with his song.
Marty: This is a guitar riff in B, watch me for the changes and try to keep up.

Now for a bit of background, Johnny B Goode uses the common blues 12 bar progression template like a lot of blues and rock at the time so all you needed was the key and the beats to the bar to provide backing music for it. Making this easy was the point of the 12 bar progression. Now on its own, I might just leave it in there as a justified trope but what makes it not match at all is the fact that the band is just that, a professional band involving only three others (and really how much did the drummer have to do?) who spend their days playing and adapting. It's not a crowd and it's not as complicated as a song.
