Working Title: Automaton Horses:

Meta4: So do literal robot horses belong here?

Ellen Hayes: Nah. One expects those sorts of pseudohorse to not need grooming, cleaning, etc.

On the other hand, I'd prefer Horses Are Jeeps as the title, since that's more reflective of how they seem to "work" (for really lame-assed values of "work" on the author's part, mind).

Mystyc: There are an awful lot of aversions listed on this page. I don't think this qualifies as an Omnipresent Trope.

Kilyle: Um, did I dream that I added an example from Elizabeth Moon's The Deed of Paksennarion? Or did it get lost in The Great Crash? Or what? Google says... well, actually, Google says that "Paksennarion" and "Deed of" are not found anywhere on TV Tropes, so I'm assuming that more than one of my entries has been wiped, but anyway this includes that I'm not thinking of a separate trope. Anyway, in Paksennarion, they make a point of noting (during a discussion in the army) that for every four horses you use for riders, you need to bring a fifth horse to carry the food for the horses.

Stm177: I put all the robot horse entries in Mecha Horse, and just left the actual wicks for real horses that are treated unrealistically.
Lots42: I am reminded of the early issues of the zombie series The Walking Dead. Our hero, a small time deputy, rescues a horse from being cramped up in a barn. And then he (I think) just rides off with it like a car. No maintenince re: the horse being in the barn for god knows how long. But he can ride, indicating he knows horses need care. Too bad zombies like to also munch horses, something he never bothered to try and figure out.
Elanorea: Took out this bit:
 • With Blizzard's most recent patch, ground mounts have been updated to be able to swim while mounted through water that's just barely deeper than the mount is tall. Not sure if that makes it an aversion or played straight, though.
Since I don't see what swimming has to do with the trope.
Gothelittle: Not sure where to put this, but the horses in the movie Westworld were technically robotic but appeared to be entirely real horses in every way. Just about the only reason you could know for sure that they were robotic was because you saw them among the robots being fixed in the lab, and it makes some sort of sense seeing as even the snakes were robots.
