Silent Hunter: Does anyone have a picture of the "Area 51 sign" that we could put up here?

Meta Four: Moved the following examples to Roswell That Ends Well:

  • During Lilo And Stitch, Cobra Bubbles (yes, that's really his name) is revealed to have saved the Earth from aliens at Roswell by convincing them mosquitos were an endangered species. He still keeps in touch with one of them, the Grand Councilwoman.
  • Historical in-jokes are par for the course in Shadow Hearts. In the third game, Roswell is where the heroes find septucentenarian Roger Bacon and vampire Hilda Valentine, having crashed when their flying machine ran out of gas.
  • Not historical, but definitely an in-joke. Wild Arms 3 featured a side-quest where your heroes fend off alien invaders, complete with Flying Saucers. The name of the paranormal investigator you speak to for the quest? Roswell.
  • Roswell
  • The series Seven Days.

Meta Four: Rewrote the main article text. Below is the original, if anyone wishes to revert.

You know. Nevada. Little alien bodies. In sci-fi, it can be just briefly mentioned, or sometimes something very plot relevant happened there.

Area 51 does exist as an Air Force base of some kind (in the middle of another base's bombing range, no less); due to the fact that everything done there is way beyond your security clearance, soldier, with US maps showing a big blank there, it tends to get associated with research into the otherworldly. May very well be decommissioned or at least mostly unusable due to radiation, but ultimately who knows for sure? (The base is officially the US Air Force Flight Test Center, also known as Groom Lake after the dry lakebed the runways are on, and sometimes known as Dreamland or Neverland. It's been used to test extremely secret experimental aircraft, probably the source of some of the rumors.)

Frequently connected to (or confused with) Roswell, New Mexico, and the supposed UFO crash that took place there.

There is an "Area 52", the Tonopah Test Range. This was home to a now-declassified Cold War programme called "Constant Peg", involving American pilots training against real MiGs.

No WMG for this? - Feefers
