In defense of Narnia, though, there are just a smany good bears as there are good any-other-animals, particularly in The Last Battle and The Magician's Nephew. In Prince Caspian, it's revealed that narnian bears have had the ancestral right to serve as Marshalls of the Lists (referees, sort of) during duels. But you're probably right about him having Narnia in mind since a lot of evil things come to Narnia from the Wild Waste Lands of the North.
