This would be the third thread on spoilers. We ought to decide on one of them.

Best to use the first one and lock the rest.

The first one reads as a policy discussion, and the second didn't go anywhere. This one, judging from the discussion on ATT, is to report violations of already-established policy. It wouldn't surprise me if it wound up doubling for ZCE reports, since those have been going hand-in-hand lately.

I'd say lock the thread Discar started, use the other one for discussions, and use this one strictly for reports. People going off tangent can be directed to the other thread.

I agree on that, and support the motion. To that end, I'm letting people know that the entire Fairy Tail page is just painfully abused with spoilers abuse(among other things). I'll tackle all the character pages in a minute, if you guys can get the rest please?

Just to clarify: we're going no spoilers at all in characters pages, right?

With the way spoilers are used on character pages lately I'd agree with having it no spoilers period at this point.

Although I think the rules on it are: 1) "don't completely white out examples, but hiding a spoiler inside an example is fine". 2) "Don't spoiler trope titles"

The first rule is kind of negated by pages that already have an unmarked spoilers warning.

Oddly enough, Pyrrhic Victory has spoilerfont despite having a 'here there be spoilers' warning (Ending Trope), and the stripper (Heh heh I said stripper) doesn't work on Main/ pages. Should I remove them by hand or is there another way?

I do not see why that trope would be spoilers off, actually. I don't think that that is an ending thing.

It sometimes is (looking at the examples), so I see why that was done. If it is one or not, though, is a matter for TRS, right?

Don't worry too much about trope pages as long as they aren't completely whited out and don't white out the trope titles.

So, on a scale of one to ten, how abused/overused are spoiler tags on the El Goonish Sive page? I want a second opinion before I make any real changes to it...

The spoilers don't violate our policy on that page at all. All the trope names are visible. It's Zero Context Examples that need clean up on that page.

There are a couple fully-tagged examples that can be toned down, but nothing major to speak of. Needs a little help on ZCE's, but that's not too bad either, just a couple here and there we've missed.

Okay, the Spoiler Policy had been changed by Fast Eddie to only be 3 rules:

  1. Do not ever conceal the name of the trope in a list of trope examples, the list on the work's page.
  2. Do not ever conceal the name of the work in a list of works using a trope, the list on the trope's page.
  3. No spoilers in the main body of the description, above the "Examples" line. Just don't do it.

This effectively means that it's okay to conceal all the information inside spoilers as long as the trope/work name itself isn't spoilered and as long as the description itself doesn't have spoilers.

(For the former, Fast Eddie says that's "Concealed Context", not "Zero Context", so it's fine to have everything but the trope/work name be in spoiler tags.)

I sincerely hope this is the one of the times when I'm wrong, but I strongly believe that at some point someone will get hauled in for misuse of ZC Es and/or spoilers, and claim that since there is no visual difference between Concealed and Zero Context, they aren't in the wrong.

Could someone who is familiar with Shin Megami Tensei IV please take a look at this to see if all the spoilers are really needed.

[up]The rules had been simplified to 3 rules: No spoiler tagging trope names, no spoiler tagging work names and no spoiler tags in the description.

Meaning, all those "spoilers" are legal according to the newly simplified rules.

Future Diary's subpages contain a lot of spoiler tag abuse and it looks ugly. I'm familiar with the series (the manga at least) but I'm kind unsure on what parts need to be spoilered or not.

They need the trope names unspoilered, for starters.

[up]and [up][up]You can now be banned for consistent spoilering of trope names on pages you create/edit. So that one is a big no-no.

I am doing a wick clean and do not have the time to deal with this but Mobile Suit Gundam 00 Gundam Meisters is a horrible mess of spoiler abuse. I cleaned up one of the characters listed, but the others still need to be done. (Seriously, why state the girly person is actually a dude in the character summary and then spoiler out all the genderbend tropes???)

Vestiges of the time when spoiling stuff was an excuse for adding spoiler-tagged fan-wanking tropes that have no context. Added by unruly tropers, for unruly tropers.

It also has loads of other spoiler violations, such as tagging things above the example line. I never got past the first episode, but judging by the page, it looks like one of the "So many spoilers it's not worth tagging anything" pages. Or maybe the original creator of the page just went crazy with the whiteout; I dunno. I think it's up to you, Someoneman. Have you actually seen the entire series, or did you just stumble upon the page?

There are also other, non-spoiler related formatting issues, like each character having two folders but not having the description inside the folder, and all sorts of weird stuff like that.
